It would be easier to just purchase It at an airport because you would get It duty free. I'm not aware of any way that you can get the tax back retrospectively.
If you want to go for a high street shop then carphone warehouse should do it sim free.

Ok I just did some reading up on it as I was interested:
VAT refunds for international travellers leaving the UK
If you are leaving the EU, the information below will help you understand if you may be able to get your VAT back on personal exports of goods.
If you live outside the EU
If you are an overseas visitor, to qualify for a VAT refund you must:
live outside the EU
leave the UK for a destination outside the EU with the goods you have bought by the end of the third month after the month when you bought them
show customs officials the goods, your receipts for them and a completed VAT refund document when you leave the EU.
You can obtain VAT refunds for anything on which you pay VAT in the UK apart from the following:
new or used cars
a boat you plan to sail to a destination outside the EU
goods worth more than £600 exported for business purposes
goods to be exported as freight
goods that need an export licence - except antiques
unmounted gemstones
bullion over 125g, 2.75 troy ounces or ten Tolas
mail order goods, including Internet sales
goods used or partly used in the EU, such as perfume
service charges, such as hotel expenses

I would post you links but unfortunately my post count isn't high enough after 4 years. However the best approach would probably be in this case to go on the high street and fill in the VAT 407 form when you arrive at the airport.
You could try and do it there but the only tech shop I saw online is Dixons and they may not stock the phone at their airport locations.

ok thank you very much...
If any one have more information please let me know..

Go to Three, and buy one for £470, its sim unlocked and has a bootloader that can also be unlocked.

Three are not part of the tax free shopping scheme.
Carphone warehouse are but fill in the form AT THE POINT OF sale if you fill it in later it's pointless as the store assistant needs to fill in the sales confirmation section and needs to prove he saw your non EU passport.

It's a yellow 4 page booklet if I remember rightly and it needs to filled out when the purchase is made. Some stores will even give you the refund there (minus a fee) but most will require you visit a booth at the airport with your form and sales receipt and the item.

Carphone waerhouse price is 550£ .
If i get vat refund form from carphone i will have to pay some fees so i will get only 10-12% vat refund so the price in three stores are cheaper without the vat refund...
is any one know stores that have better price then carphone wearhose that can give me vat refund form?
By the way i'm soory for my bad english

Three store
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk

I think your best option is three without the refund, however look around before you buy and look for a sticker in the window saying tax free shopping and see if they do a price match, if they do, ask for the form when buying.

yeah three would be even more convenient / cheap even without the VAT as you will save yourself a lot of hassle at Heathrow.

[Q] cost of customs for SGS2 from U.K. to U.S.?

Anyone knows how much do we have to pay in customs if we import a SGS2 from the U.K. on release day? I am looking at purchasing one once I get a good review of the GPS performance and want to make sure I am not surprised with any hidden cost.
unless you live in new york, you dont have to pay any. you just pay for shipping, i ordered from clove.co.uk, and there was no tax, or customs charges, only a shipping fee of 14 their money. however mobilecityonline.com is US based, and is cheaper than clove, you will pay 699, no tax, free shipping, no international hassle. the only reason i went with clove was because they will get it to me anywhere from 2-4 days faster
edit, i just noticed you wont be ordering the day they get released, then it would be faster to order from mobilecityonline, because they will receive stock from uk, which will take a few days to ship, but after that, you can order overnite delivery if you live in the US, so i suggest mobilecityonline.com

MobileCityOnline has free shipping on pre-orders. But no ETA. Yes, it's 699 but no certain date when they receive stock.
I also ordered from Clove and it's about $744 with 2-4 day shipping. I hope it'll arrive by the end of that week. Also, I think there's some currency fee charged by your card issuer. Maybe 3%?
Handtec is slightly cheaper but they've been inconsistent with stock date.

thats if you order from mobilecityonline, if you order from clove there wont be any tax. the tax is only from mobilecityonline because theyre actually newyork based, so newyork residents have to pay =/ not sure who would be cheaper in this instance, hmm
thanks everyone
That was one of my worries, at least I can breath now
Now to see if the GPS performs good or not. The first SGS let a sour taste in my mouth.
Ok, so the sellers that can ship to the U.S. that I have so far are:
clove.co.uk (444.00 euros + 14 euros shipping = 458 euros)
mobilecity.com (699.99 dollars + 0 shipping)
handtec.co.uk (515.99 euros + 12.99 euros shipping = 528.98 euros)
expansys.com (519.99 euros + ?? shipping)
expansys-usa.com (749.99 dollars + ?? shipping)
Watch out, UK still uses pounds, not euros
So it's actually 14% more expensive (1GBP=1.14EUR)

Is it an international warranty? From my previous experience with Samsung products (laptops, not phones), the warranty would cover the item in the locale where it was purchased, which in this case would be the U.K. no?

Clove just emailed saying if there's an issue with the device, it can always be sent back to them.
They didn't mention any other details. It sounds pretty vague so I guess I'll have to deal with either SquareTrade or Ensquared.

Guys, i want to make sure i've got it correctly: if I'm buying from UK (expansys or handtec) and ship it to USA address not in New York, in my case Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, then i wont pay any US taxes and customs, and expansys's price (which exclude EU VAT while shipping to US) + shipping costs will be my final price?
Price of phone plus shipping is what t
I paid. Shipped to Florida with nn tax.

tax or vat from DHL

finally ordered from clove it cost £410.00
and the DHL Int Courier cost £16.00 ex-Vat
and it's ship to new york
anyone know if they will ask me to pay more ?
becuase i heard they send letters after 1-3 weeks and want some money about services / tax / vat
thanks
That depends on the USA Inport Tax system.... an American who orders goods from Europe will have to tell you about this.
If a DHL package gets stopped at Customs you should be informed a lot quicker than if it was a normal postage system delivery.
I paid for the handset, and shipping via DHL. N.E. Pennsylvania.
No VAT here, you're good.
edit: At the DHL hub, it will go through customs check. Usually it will go right through with no action on your part.

and what about some people that say they got a letter from DHL after couple weeks that required to pay some more money?
did u heard something about that ?
by the way on i watch the tracking number it say
"Clearance processing complete at NEW YORK CITY GATEWAY - USA"
it was very quick process , about 40 minutes after it arrived there
but the real question , if DHL wasn't paid anything there and will send me the bill later....

The clearance process is the customs area. I haven't seen anything from DHL or customs for that matter, and I've had the phone well over a month now.
edit: Now that I'm thinking of it, maybe if the seller does not include processing in the shipping price, DHL charges later? I don't think so as how many businesses without credit card info give you an option to pay later. I wouldn't worry about it.

[Q] Importing experience

Hi there
Has anyone who has imported a galaxy tab 10.1 from the states to Europe/UK comment on their experience please, ie how much was duty, tax, VAT, where from etc.
Its just that Im planning on buying one from ebay US since the tab isnt probably going to arrive here in France till after september and I've already been waiting to buy a tab since the original 7 inch tab came out and cant wait anymore!
cheers
You will pay a hefty premium on eBay, sellers look like they are charging way over retail, plus tax when it arrives with you.
It's a bit early for anyone to have any experiences yet, unless they got one from Best Buy in NY last week, but then they'd have probably brought it back in person and may have avoided taxes.
I ordered mine from Amazon via a mail forwarder, should be with me by the middle of next week. Expecting to pay around ~25% of the value in taxes and duty, so anything less than that is a bonus. Still works out to about the same price as the wifi Xoom over here, so I'm happy.
You will need to do research for your country as to what is charged if you want to have any hope of an exact price.
Great I found this thread !!
Amazon isn't having issues shipping to mail forwarders right? Because best buy is, also amazon selling white or metallic grey?
thanks in advance
Cheers

There is no import duty on the tablet in the UK, but you will pay VAT at 20%. A guy on these forums posted about www.bundlebox.com which is a forwarder. Apparently they offer warranty cover as well. We are discussing it over here:

White are BB exclusive so if it's from anywhere but BB they are metallic grey plasic made to look like metal.
Which mail forwarder do you use?
And which method did Amazon use to ship your item to the mail forwarder?
I have setup mail forwarder (BongoUS.com), but I don't sign the USPS form 1583. So, the mail forwarder cannot accept item shipped via USPS. Anything else, UPS or FedEx are OK.

I'm using Comgateway as the freight forwarder to ship my tab to Australia. I've used them several times and the service was great. They are based in Portland, Oregon..so you don't have to pay any state sales tax. They will ship your item through DHL.
Amazon used ONTRAC when they sent my order and it reached CGW on Friday morning.

Ok, so what will you do if the item is faulty?
You are asking about warranty
Of course this is the risk for people who import because as we all knew, the GT10.1 does not have international warranty.
It is a gamble, but it is not the end of the day.
You can return it, but you must pay the shipment your-self. More or less like this. Fried forwarder will handle return.
So, it is your choice.
It is a big gamble in terms of cost. If it is OK, then good! If it is not OK, it means you must spend more money (return processing).
NOTE: I checked comGateway.com, it seems OK, but I don't find any business address or customer support phone numbers. This makes me think to use their service, although it should be OK (I read some reviews). But, I want to be able to contact them quickly (by phone) if anything bad happens.

Electronics are late & overpriced here, so I guess it's a risk I'm willing to take when importing stuffs If, the product is faulty...most probably will try to contact samsung or return it to amazon.
Ive been looking into the forwarder Viaddress. Has anyone else used them or heard anything about them? They advertise themselves as being much better than the others. Also Im not keen on filling out the 1583 form so Im thinking about using Tigerdirect as they use UPS to ship items as opposed to Amazon where you cant choose your carrier.
update: from what Ive read, Viadress doesnt seem to be a very trustworthy service. I think Im going to go with one of the ones thats been mentioned here instead.
I am going to use TigerDirect as well for UPS shipment.
And for the forwarder, I use BongoUS.com. This is my first time experience.
So far they are ok, support responded my questions quickly, also checked their live chat. And they have phone number where you can contact, also the company address is clearly visible in their website.
https://bongous.com/contact.php
However, to use that, you must pay one time fee $5 (no monthly fee) and your credit card will be verified (by sending a small amount $0.1 - $1.0 and you need to tell them that).

Im looking at using Bundlebox now. They seem very good. All tax/duties are included. Its going to cost me 559euros all up for the 32GB model. I think thats pretty good. How much is it costing you? btw I think we're having the same conversation over 2 threads lol
I don't like the included tax with the forwarder.
Because there is chance their calculation is wrong? Or double charged by the tax office in our country?
So, I want the forwarder to not include the tax. The custom will charge the tax anyway.
Seems safer to me.
I have no idea how much in total because I don't know how to calculate the tax in NL.
I could assume VAT 20% though ... shipping cost to NL would be around $50. .... So, ($500 + 20% * $500) = $600 + $50 shipping = $650 USD = 454 euro ... not bad.
But again, I don't know the tax/duty, never done this before.

There is no duty in France but there is VAT/tax. Calculated on their site its 95euro, which is around the 18.6% VAT charged on goods+shipping costs etc. So its correct. And even if when it arrives I have to pay more, I can just refuse it (unless its only a couple of euros)
On the bundlebox site they show you the tax/duty by country
From their site for NL:

Thanks for the calculator, I found there is no duty as well. So, it's good

Yea, its out of stock in stores. But apparently not at their warehouse or so the online order support said. You can order one online, worse thing that could happen is that your order gets cancelled =P
Looks like a 15% restocking fee. Not my favorite...
Got shot down again on Price Match request with Best Buy, who said Microcenter's nearest store was too far from me to qualify. (Got shot down previously on HHGregg deal, cuz they said they didn't match online-only deals).
But lots of people do report success with the Price Match thing at Best Buy, so it doesn't hurt to try.

But if there's a defect with it, they've got to give a refund... no?

A 15% Open Box Fee will be charged on all returns and exchanges unless the product is defective and is exchanged for the identical product.

I wonder if that means they'll keep giving exchanges until you get a working one and no refunds will be given?
yep i think that's what it means
There are 10+ in stock near me in Columbus, Ohio
If I didn't have one already I'd go pick one up.
Pulled the trigger. Wish their overnight shipping wasn't $60 but oh well. Still paid under $500 with shipping and tax. SCORE!!
Can't wait
Pulled the trigger too. Will update when I get it. But Microcenter has one of the best customer service I've encountered. The manager always comes to shake my hand whenever I buy a notebook. Its kind of odd XD. So I am pretty sure they will find some way to accomindate you or at least store credit maybe?
Isn't it kinda odd seeing two companies now having it below the usual price of $500? Asus can't make them quick enough to even keep up with demand. People are waiting for these that are in backorder at other places. Why sell them for less when they will already sell out for a higher price?

Can't explain why Microcenter is selling at their price, but HH Gregg already said theirs was a mistake that they're honoring.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
Microcenter is selling it at 449$ because they are the new kid on the block I think. They are offering ALL tablets at a discount of 50$.
Microcenter has been selling any Android or Windows tablet priced $299.99 and up for $50 off for months now. If you go to their website and scroll down a little, it's advertised on the right. Since they are now selling the TFP, it falls into that discount.

How did you find the item? I can't find it using the site search by product name, sku, upc, anything.

I can find it from the home page by searching for "TF201-B1-GR" or "Eee Transformer Tablet".
Also, the link comes up first if you do a Google search for "TF201-B1-GR microcenter" Or you can search on "TF201-B1-GR" in Google Shopping, and the link comes up.
Ok.. changed my location to Columbus/OH and the search came up. They have it in stock. I was looking at another location that didn't have any in stock and doing a search there didn't come up with any results.
best buy price match is so gay.
they seem to have the tablet in chicago, not in ny. bestbuy wont match it cuz, its more than 25 miles from my loc...
i argued that bestbuy doesnt even have it at there locations.. wtf
pisses me off i paid 499.. when hhgreg had it for 399 and now microcenter has it for 449. with a couple days.
oh wells.
I just called the bestbuy online number from the hhgregg thread and the first guy had no problem giving me my $50 refund. Took about 5 minutes on the phone and got confirmation already as well.
Just needed my online order number and then told him about the price, asked where it was, said no problem.
Not sure if this works for matching if you bought it at a store but if you bought it online should be no problem.
fyi for all of you that ordered from this place - microcenter ONLINE does not have tprimes in stock, they never had them in stock and the web site's "In Stock" status is an error. all the incoming orders are going into a queue, just like everyone else, and they are hoping to receive some in "the next week or two", just like everyone else (best buy and tigerdirect excluded from this generalization, as these seem to be the winners that most available stock is being funneled to).
Anyone know their return policy? The store in St Louis Park, MN is showing 10+ in stock which I find suspicious but I am nervous about buying from a place like this as far as returns go.
Edit - Looks like 15% restock fee but that is for online orders. I can't find anywhere it discusses tablets or orders you pick up.
Edit 2 - Meh, it just throws an error if I try to add one for in store pickup.
Edit 3 - I guess they don't like Chrome, IE worked fine. Picking it up tonight.

Advice on getting a Nexus 10 from the US to India

Hey guys. The Nexus 10 isn't available here in India and i doubt it will ever be. And even if it will they'll up the price by a few hundred dollars because **** it. Now,my friend just ordered a nexus 4 via a VPN directly from the play store and shipped it to an acquaintance's place who are coming over sometime this month. I thought I could do something similar and I have family living over in the US. What I wanted to know was,can I use an Indian Debit card via a VPN from here through google wallet? My friend used a credit card, but I wanted to know if i can use a debit card. Also, most importantly,do you guys have any idea about the custom duty and other stuff? I will most probably ask my family to open up the package so it wouldn't classify as a new item. Will this work to evade custom duty? Also, how much should I expect to pay for shipping charges (approx.) ? Thanks.

You can buy the product from India itself. Please check GRABMORE dot IN website - the product code is 12786354, costing only Rs.34,000/- for a 32GB version, including all customs/taxes/shipping charges. I've just ordered the product and it supposed to be in my hands in very early Jan/2013. PS: It's with US warranty only.

i ordered it from US google play store using expressvpn and set shipping address to myus.com who do shipment forward service, they received it and shipped it to me in UAE. total cost was $440 (nexus 10 16gb + tax + shipping) + $10 (myus.com account setup cost one time) + $58 (shipping from US to me using fedex 2 day delivery)
all in all, order on 9th, google processed on 12th, reaced myus on 13th and i got it on 15th and total cost was still cheaper than if i were to buy from UAE, almost $100 cheaper

The quoted price here is 31,000 Rupees whereas if i was to buy it directly from the playstore,I'd pay $399 which equals 21769.44 Rupees, according to Google. Exactly why I wanted to know about shipping from the US to India

actually the warranty is international but if bought from US google will support it elsewhere samsung is supposed to if they have their own service center and if through distributor they might not support it

Yeah, that comes to around 24144.78 Rupees plus maybe 3000 Rupees shipping charges even if I somehow skip customs. Oh,well it looks like I'll have to buy it here. Thanks.
34,000Rs is daylight robbery guys. I got it for 33k and I don't feel it's worth that amount. Just a word of caution and nothing else. It's worth 22-25k nothing more.
I suggest you get it from the USA

agreed, not worth 30k+, get it from US to myus.com and from there to u, myus.com declared my item as $10 so no customs were charged for me, prefer fedex as they have much quicker customs clearance and they deliver in 2 days max.
problem is its not available in any google store as of now, out of stock, so ull have to wait till january

probably non of the tablets r still worth the price that r in the market, bear in mind, nexus 10 doesnt have sd card slot or sim card slot, ull have to go for note 10.1 for such things or u can always use a otg cable and make use of some patches to make such things work, the only reason i got a nexus 10 was to watch movies and surf only and a direct google vanilla experience with quicker software updates but i guess even with new and better hardware it will need a few more revisions in software as well as more optimized apps to make use of its potential or else its just a waste of hardware

not to mention adobe stopped flash support on jelly beans, its really annoying coz my wife plays games on facebook and most of them r flash based

So totally considering buying the 32gb version, had the same dilemma...
Now if my math is correct:
$499 (for the tablet)
+ $13.99 (shipping to US address)
+ $27.93 (tax)
+ $10 ( for myus.com registration)
+ $12.95 (for express VPN reg)
+ $58 (Shipping charge with FedEx)
--------------------------------------------
$621.87
= Rs. 34,112.679 (as of 17/12/12)
Grabmore.in price = Rs. 34,000
So, other than the issue of trusting them (grabmore.in) to deliver a non broken/damaged/messed-up piece. I'm thinking this is a good deal....
Just hope you wont have any hardware problems like light bleed etc when you receive the device as replacing it would be tough...
Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk 2
So, I did it, took the plunge....
Order placed and confirmed... delivery should happen between the 27th and the 4th....
Fingers crossed... I hope this all works out ok.
Grabmore.in... here's looking at you
light bleed is a issue on almost all devices that are edge light, i was worried about the same and my device does have it but its very minor, not noticeable easily, its the bottom 2 leds which when viewed from top in highest screen brightness and black screens is visible, same is the issue with my lg ips monitor but now it doesnt bother me much

But thats the point. You see,my friend didn't have to register for the VPN,it was free and if we could overcome the customs crap then we save like 3k anyway. Here's the free VPN I was talking about: http://us.newfreevpn.com/ this works perfectly with a Google Wallet Account and indian Credit Card. And As far as stuff like Flash is concerned,we can always side load it using an apk.
the problem still remains, google play store doesnt have it in stock so what r u anyways going to order?
u can check where its available from here http://www.n4checker.com/?type=n10_32gb

i have the device in my hands, i installed the flash using the apk but it doesnt perform well at all and never will till browsers and native support for flash isnt good but they r going to stop flash all together, dont get fooled by the 1.7ghz etc processor, exynos is know to have broken drivers for its processor, a qualcomm is good for fluidity

Thank you so much for that link and advice.
Could you tell me at what price is the Nexus 10 available in the UAE? Specifically Dubai?
it still isnt available but when it does, 16gb would cost Dhs2000 to Dhs2200 and 32gb would cost Dhs2350 to Dhs2550, ill keep u posted when its in stocks here
I've checked the Grabmore site today they are now selling it at 36,000 INR, Increased 2,000 in two days.....
I wanna buy too
I have searched through net a lot .. i was waiting for nexus 10 since it was announced and knew it wont b released in India. Tradus, Grabmore etc are trustworthy sites i believe but 30k+ is a lot...
The method you told about getting from uncle is clean with no custom duties and stuff...Common, people from outside can bring their phones and stuff I am planning to get one through this way .. but the problem on my side is I cant asked them to open the package for any defects as they are not related to us directly ...
I also asked samsung india about support for nexus 10 and they directly declined it saying there no support till it is announced in India. And i guess google doesnt provide international warranty. So here is a drawback...
After seeing this tab i dont feel like buying any other tab of this price range as none stand beside nexus 10 in 20k bucks !!
