[Q] Clean format of internal memory

I want to clean format all internal memory and install new custom ROM. The reason to full format is coz lot of garbage in Internal memory in which I am not able to segregate the used app or current app etc.
I have 16 GB internal Memory and 8 GB SD Card.
1. How to wipe all internal memory (tool)?
2. If I wipe, what about CWM? Would it also be deleted? Can I install and run it from External SD Card.
3. After full wipe, will it go in Root mode to install custom ROM.
A wipe using CWM should be fine.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
1) go into recovery and select "wipe data / factory reset", or "format /data"
2) No and no. It won't be deleted and you can't install it on ext. SD
3) Install a custom ROM from CWM recovery. If your current system / ROM is rooted the root will not be affected by the wipe / format.
But WHEN I INSTALLED. Custom rom i did wipe data but the old app data was still in the internal memory. I have s3 and its internal memory is 16 gb and some is allocated to system i guess. So is it only wiping the system space not the total internal memory?

On the S3, the internal "SD Card" memory is only a subfolder of /data.
And /data will get formatted during a wipe....
You can also initiate the wipe from Settings -> Backup And Restore (IIRC) - that will even tell you that everything on /sdcard will be deleted as well
CWM
So is there anyway i can go and clean total internal memory and then install a backup zip from external SD card. I just want my internal SD Card to be totally wiped and install my backup image (/Data only if I am right). Because my image is only 2.5 GB but the space left on my internal SD card is 2 GB out of 16 Gb. Thanks for the help in advance
Cwm recovery
Format data system cache and sd card .
Flash stock rom via Odin flash CF root
Restore Nandroid backup .
Or put the phone in a microwave and delete all storage .

I've asked this question time and time again and no one has yet given me a answer. I can only assume no one ever cleans there internal memory
Anyway the best way to totally clean your phone Ive found is to flash back to stock then go to recovery (stock recovery) select format/wipe from there Stock recovery wipes all of "/data" unlike CWR

I stand corrected after a short test selecting reset from the settings menu does in fact format this space :highfive:
Yes you are right. I did the same
It worked... Thanks

[Q] Internal and External Memory formatted while in recovery while installing a mod

So this is what happened with me today , I was on a 4.2.2 based ROM with kernel Dorimanx 9.5 . Had some stability issue so i began flashing a new ROM also based on 4.2.2 . I flashed ROM , flashed gapps and was now installing a few mods . I was flashing Awesomebeats v5 zip and it was installing suddenly my device went back to recovery. i now selected install zip from Internal sdcard and voila it returned error , same for external sdcard . I didn't know what to do then so i rebooted it back in recovery as ROM had already been installed so there was this ROM's CM recovery was there. Now i selected Install zip from sdcard and to my surprise it was formatted , same with external sdcard.
i booted into the ROM then and installed a file manager , same there no data.. Why has my external and internal memory has been formatted ?
SO i tried recovery methods of data given there on xda , managed to recover just junk png files and other junk files . I just want pics from my camera to be back , any idea how could i get them back ? The internal memory is still empty so old data will not have been overwritten. Photo recovering apps are not helping .
Please help
Anyone ? Please help.
I think no-one can help you (now i useing with siyah/philz/stock ),it happened to me too before a year

how to format internal memory?

I have some corrupt files on my internal memory,
first i tried to delete them from solid explorer but it cant
then i tried format usb storage and also format from cwm. it deleted all folders but except the corrupt files and the hidden folders so it is not a true full format.
I need to fully wipe the internal to get rid of these files, how do i do it?
You haven't mentioned whether you are rooted and/or running a cusROM or not. But to answer your question, flashing a firmware in Odin overwrites the phone partitions (afaik) and should format the affected partition.......
Edit....just seen you mentioned CWM....so I guess you are at least rooted....
So you have another option. In CWM go to mounts and storage....you'll find options to format various partitions....preload, cache, dalvic, data and eMMc if my memory serves me.....just remember to stay clear of any wiping if you are running ICS 4.0.4 and a basic (not included in a custom kernel) CWM. ....see eMMc brickbug....aka paperweight creator....

Hi, I have a similar problem with my phone : first a problem of dynamic langage with swiftkey, just after an error message about the database of root uninstaller, and then impossible to open the photo galery, with a message like "insuffisant memory space, etc..."
However there are 5Go of free space ....
So I run Avast and moved all important files from internal memory to the sdcard.
When I expected to move the backup files of MyBackup Root that the file manager looked like frozen. Impossible to move not to delete any file any more, and I can see plenty of corrupted files with very strange non alphabetic names inside the MyBackup Root directory.
I tried with no success :
- to delete all files in internal memory from a pc connected by usb, nor from terminal emulator, I get the message that it is read only (in su)
- to format from android parameter
- to reboot in recovery mode, then to format with CWM (v3.15)
- to perform a fsck_msdos
- to reboot in recovery mode, to run a e2feck
the fsck sees those corrupted files but cannot delete with error message like I/O Error
My Galaxy S2 works fine, except the internal memory that cannot be written.....
my questions is : How can a unfreeze my internal memory ?
Thanks.

Ok...sounds like you have a real problem there....
Now I'm not the most experienced Android user here, but to me, that sounds like a NAND read/write corruption (somebody correct me if I'm wrong)
My advice would be to read this thread thoroughly. ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449771
and maybe ask your question there, but don't do anything else to your phone until someone there can confirm or deny the accuracy of what I've suggested......

Thank you very much for giving this wonderfull thread !
I wanted to be sure that a new flash with a partition will solve my problem.
Best regards.
No problem mate. ...just remember. ...don't do anything else to your phone until someone there has answered your questions.....

how to repair the corrupted internal memory after pit partition?
Dear senior members
i am using S2 Gt-9100g. Recently i tried to re-partition the internal memory by pit file of 6-8 gb via Odin and CWM recovery installed via PDA,simultaneously. i got 6 gb internal space for apps. then with the help of custom CWM recovery i successfully flashed the cm13 ROM and gaaps pico zip, then i reboot the system then i found out that my internal memory is corrupted so i hastily tried to format from my phone. This is where i made the mistake... now my phone runs smoothly but no internal memory . I tried to repair the internal memory by CWM recovery to format the internal memory but it won't detect any. I know it is wrongly formatted but it is there!
please senior members, help to regain the internal memory.
Thank you

[Q] Error Making a Nandroid Backup??

I flashed cwm 6.0.3.2 to my device samsung galaxy young s6312, stock android 4.1.2 jellybean, rooted, using a tutorial on xda. One of the reasons I flashed it was to create a nandroid backup. But when I try to backup my phone, it backs up boot image, recovery, system, and then it begins backing up data. After some time I got an error, "error while creating backup image of /data". Also when I rebooted my device after this, I saw that my external sd card (where the backup was getting stored) was totally full. So is this a problem with my storage?? Do I need more free space to create a nandroid backup?? Btw, I have 2 GB free memory on my external sd card. Plz guide me... Thanks...
