Yellow tint in the lower half of screen? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone else have the same problem? Particularly obvious when you're using apps with white bg, such as the default email/contacts app...any way of resolving?

No yellow tint at all on mine.

It seems you got a defective screen.
It is unfair that you can't return the phone.
Is it in warranty? Send it to sony customer support for repair.

warranty yes...yup, guess i'll bring it in and hope for good news.

Yes, I had the yellow / red hue on the screen on my Z2. I can confirm that there are different screens on the market. I have seen two Z2 with completely normal neutral greys and two with the yellow/red hue. I returned mine and searching for a better unit...

Here is a example picture of a bad and good Z2 displays. The one on the right looks right against any other LCD.

check --> settings - display - white balance make red , green and blue "0"

i have yellow tint on mine as well, just got it yesterday.
White balance was at default 0,0,0
set red > 0
green > 100-110
blue > max 255
and youll get a cool white display without yellow tint

In all honesty if you have to set blue to maximum to get white, something's wrong surely.
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

Yeah just out of curiosity i set mine to the numbers provided, it looks horrible, your display must be defective
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk 2

In my example picture above, both screen are at 100% manual brightness, and RGB white balance settings are 0,0,0.
If it is normal that two screens are so different, the tolerances in manufacturing are horribly large. Not at all acceptable for this price level of products. I returned my yellow screen to the store and we tried to find a unit with a normal screen but it looked like all their stock was with the yellow screen. Annoying, as I have seen two perfectly good neutral screens on my friends' Z2 units.
Not sure if I should continue buying and returning in a different place or just throw in the towel and get another brand and model phone entirely.

Same here, set to quoted values screen looks dimmer and very blue.

My screen is a bit yellow by default, but changing the white balance sorts it (nice of Sony to pop that in). To be honest I don't really notice it unless I put it next to another phone anyway. My phone was made in China and is the black model. I believe it's Phones4u stock, for what it's worth.
What is annoying though is that my screen appears to be a tiny bit askew... I noticed straight away that the front glass is, but now I'm sure the screen itself is. Will have to find the measuring tape to know for sure.

and the funny thing is, the technician told me that it was really about luck - he has TWO Z2s, one pre-prod and one post-prod, and both are perfect(he was kind enough to let me play around with em - i suppose he uses it as his personal phones)
Oh well...did a water test and my phone survived, so i guess i'll live with it(gaps,SLIGHTLY off centered camera, overheat)

Lucky you, i have a "dead pixel", green one.
And a yellowspot in the rightbottom corner, but that'll fade over time. (i hope)
I'm glad that the screen has a very high resolution, it's really hard to even notice the dead pixel.
I have noticed a yellowish tinge at the bottom of the display. Only really notice it when there is a white background. Is it likely that the display is somehow faulty??

I have the exact same, a yellowish spot in the bottom right corner.
I hoped it was the same problem as the iphone or SGS2.
They say the yellowspot is from the glue that they use to stick the screenlayers together, but it needs time to vaporise and should go away over time.
But I have my phone now almost a week and i still get the spot back now and then.

Sounds like bull**** to me.
I had contact with T-Mobile today, about the dead pixel and yellowspot.
The guy told me he's going to get information for me, and see if they can replace it. he'll send me an email later.
Same hear.
Barely visible yellowish (only on whites) at the bottom part of the screen.
It varies depending on the view angle.

Hi guys just wanna update you regarding screen issues.
I've spoken with people on the forum of my country, other 2 guys with Xperia S and both of them got that really barely visible yellow tint on the bottom part of the screen (also, one of these guys has 2 Xperia S -him and his brother- and both of them have that tint).
Really difficult to explain it on forums (nothing compared to the GS2 yellow tint) because it's really hard to see and only visible on white/clear colors uniform backgrounds, but according to what I'm seeing it's a common issue, not a problem of a single faulty unit.
Got a blue/whiteisch pixel to the top right of my screen
They said i need to have more then 3 to get a new phone :/`
Can i fix this ?

I have the problem too. I called technical team dept from where i bought the phone, and they asked me to do a screen test over the phone. I tap the screen it shows all white, tap again red, green etc etc. He asked me if i could see a yellowish tinge running across the bottom of the display when these colours appeared on the display which i couldn't to be honest. I took it back to the shop, and i dont know if it has to do with the bright lighting within the store, but it didn't show up hardly at all, barely noticeable. It seems less noticeable in a well lit environment, or outside as opposed to when i am at home where it i notice it more. It is midly annoying, but this shouldn't be the case.
Can anyone throw any light as to what this could be??
Thanks

I believe that yellowish tint has something to do with warmth from the screen or the battery or the screen staying on for a longer time or something or something.
because when I'm using it alot, playing games, browsing, whatsapp etc etc. for like an hour. It gets more visible.
And then it's from "barely noticeable" to "hard to miss"
I can clearly see it on Grey (notification slide down) or Blue (startscreen DrawSomething) or White.

Same here. Interesting what you say. I would still like to know where the consumer stands on this issue, and if Sony themselves would recogonise if this is a somehow a fault with the display. My Arc had no such problems.
Hi guys,
I'm new here, but I was reading the threads on the S from the start.
Reading through the screen problems I was thinking about the following:
The Xperia S's screen is glued- as I know -, like for example the iPhone4/4s'. Some i4 users noticed this yellowish tint as well, and they've came to a conclusion it was because of the glue what was used to put the screens together and it disappeared after about 1,5-2 weeks.
This could explain the reaction to temperature differences too.

Yellow tint.

So I'm having this slight yellow tint on my S3. It's not super visible but I do notice it. I also compared it to a show model and mine definitely had a tint while the one in the shop was just pure white. Should I return it or just leave it as it is?
If anything the tint should be blue due to the pentile display.
it could be down to your screen mode which you can change under settings > display > screen mode
Screen mode doesn't change the tint.

Hmm, I would suggest getting some other people you know to look at it and confirm it has a tint without trying to sound harsh it could just be your eyes. If not take it back to the store its still going to be covered by the stores warranty and of course manufacture warranty.
are we talking about the casing or the screen?

I actually compared it to the store model. It definitely has a tint. But a guy at the service center said the tint might go away. There are more cases where the adhesive had to dry or something, so the screen would have a yellow tint the first two weeks or so. If it doesn't go away I will send it to samsung in a couple of weeks.

If you're still within the 14-day return period I wouldn't chance it and just get a new handset now. That would be the safer option.
That sounds like a line, the guy at the store probably doesn't want to do anything for you. If I paid a lot of money for a device and or 3 year term you better bet I'm getting the best phone possible without defects. My 2 cents...
There are at least 2 two other threads about this here and there is also two on swedroids forum (use chrome for translation).
I have the same problem and I have sent it back to the retailer as a DOA. I hope I get a new one!
Looks like it's not meant to do it I goggled for like half an hour and there is nothing coming up for yellow tint due to adhesive.
I'll be mad as hell when I get my S3 and it had the same thing. It's bad enough looking at it on my S2.
The yellow or pink tint is something pretty common almost all S3 I've seen (about 6 sets). The severity and location of the tint varies from set to set. On my current set, the screen is yellow at the top 25% and pinkish on the rest of the screen. My previous set was yellow on 50% of the screen right in the centre.
This problem is most obvious on light colored backgrounds (eg. white, grey) when we surf the web. An easy way to see is to download LCD-Test app from play store.
Very very disappointing widespread defect on an otherwise superb phone.
Well I they said that they wouldn't wan't to take it back as I had some other problems with other S3's and they already replaced those. But anyway.. Is there a chance the yellow tint will go away in the next week or so? As I heard it is often caused by some kind of adhesive.

Does anyone even know whether the glass of the s3 is fixed to the screen with adhesive? The yellow tint is really obvious imo.. I really dislike it and want ti return my GS3 asap.

I would honestly leave it. You might end up getting a worse phone with dead pixels or worse.
All phone screens are slightly different. There will be a rom/kernel out eventually that will let you tweak your color settings.
My i9000 used to have a slight yellow tint. Now I've set up voodoo color it's a pure white. I'm sure your phone is perfectly capable of displaying a pure white too.

Well I actually don't plan on rooting it.
I'm more than 1 week in and the tint hasn't changed a bit. I made the screen a bit hot (not too hot) so that if the tint would be caused by adhesive it would dry. As there is no change in more than a week I'm not really expecting the tint to change. If the issue persists more than 2 weeks I will bring it back and keep everyone updated on how the service is, so that people will know whether they can send their phones back in case they have a tint.

Someone please post a screenshot of the yellow tint, I am going to sue Samsung on this now.

[Q] Can the tint be fixed?

Hi, I recently bought an Galaxy S3. And i noticed that in the lower quarter of the screen looks a bit "whitier" than the rest of the screen. The rest of the screen doesn't have any colour in particular is just that the white looks more warmer. Before anything i should clarify that is visible looking directly to the screen. The real issue is with a grey background, like the market or the antutu background. That part of the screen looks more blue-ish or darker than the rest.
Well i talked with the salesman who sold me my device. He talked with him supplier and don't consider that the lower tint it's enough for a exchange.
Now, what intrigues me. Is that is only visible on a gray background( market, or antutu for example) But i test the display with *#0*# with the three different colour (blue, green or red) i don't notice any difference on the screen. The same with a white background there is no visible tint.
I really don't know what else to do. Could somebody explain to me why is only visible on grey background and not visible on a pure white screen?
Another question i ask my self. If the the tint is blue-ish. Is due to an over saturation of the blue pixels? If so, can this be "fixable" wearing the blue pixels on that part of the screen?
Thanks.
Try the app "Screen Adjuster" Increasing red and green will make it look less blue. Try it in increments of 5. There will eventually be a color temperature adjuster hack like there is for the Galaxy Nexus.
That helped to hide the effect a little. But the question remains. Which is the cause of the variation of colour temperature on different parts of the screen?

Defective screen. They should replace the phone. Or send it to Samsung for service.
Thats a bad screen I had the exact same problem. There are a cupple of threads here at xda and also on Swedish site swedroid. Some people get an accepted doa . I did not. However in the shipping from the service point to my retailer they broke my phone so I got a refund (lucky me). And my new phone is much, much better!

I think the exact same thing. But the salesman who sold me the phone don't think is a deffective screen because he couldn't saw anything when i showed to him.
The problem is that i couldnt show him concret evidence of this issue with the screen.
There is way to contact with samsung directly?

I'd guess it's because of glue which is used to hold screen and glass panel together. Probably it haven't dried yet. Wait couple of days and screen should lose it's yellowish tint. If not then RMA the phone.

So I ordered a OPX on 8th Nov and got it on 10th Nov, What an awesome device with brilliant Display !!!!
Then my cousin saw it and wanted on for himself, so I ordered another one for him on 11th and got it on 14th ...
But when I saw compared both the phones, I realized that my OPX's display has a Yellow Tint
So after the Moto X(gen 2), Nexus 5X ... The OPX also has the same problem ...
I wonder what might be the reason behind this and why none of the company ever commented on this issue before ????
I want all of you to check your device and see what type of display you have, so that we may be able to conclude which one is defective, and if a particular batch is affected .

I've read about a slight blue tint when looking at the display from an angle, in several video reviews.
I've came here to rant as well, bought the OPX and have used it for a few days, mine also has the yellow tint issue on the top half of the screen (bottom half is a nice white). It is visible on day to day use which makes it annoying. Would've been able to live with it if the whole display was slightly yellow but the fact that part of it is and part of it isn't bugs me.
I've seen possible solutions like using a hairdryer of leaving it on the car dashboard but this issue is not my fault-I shouldn't have to go through **** to fix it. OnePlus better do something about it or I want my money back.
I've opened a ticket/RMA hopefully they get back to me early next week.
On a side note camera isn't as good as it could be, sd card bug is annoying, battery isn't great. My LG Spirit served me better to be honest.

Think back to Nexus 4, so many people were running different colour profiles lol
I don't know if it's plcaebo or it really happened. I stay in Mumbai which has a hot and humid climate (40degree is normal for us) and went to a cold place with temperature around -5 degree. I noticed that the screen got a yellow tint but it got back to normal once I got to warmer place. Now it could just be my illusion. Could anyone with some knowledge on this opine on this??

Display woes

So i swapped my first device kinda wish i hadent as the screen was great.
New device has green tint anything below 10% (this i can just about live with as i just raise brightness). However i recently noticed in direct sunlight yesterday that i can barely see screen and it tints purple (yes i have adaptive brightness on)
Now something really strange in bright sunlight when a shadow casts across a white screen , the shadow against screen is green has anyone else noticed this ......?
.
hard to capture properly as spare phone is an old iphone but the green shadow is from my hand which can be observed above , also notice how the white tints to purple.

Well the green tint below 10% i don't experience with my phone.
The other notion/complaint, is just natural properties of an OLED panel, all my previous phones had the purple in sunlight tint.
probably the brighter sunlight reflecting in one of the physical layers of the panel. Nothing you can get rid off unless you want LCD.

Look, the picture you took in sunlight is normal behavior and physics.
The low light low brightness pictures are indeed not normal, indeed should be exchanged for another device!

also, on the first photo I can see black bar near punch hole
exactly the same as on mine.. will probably send it back
Just got new phone July batch , first impressions are a lot less green tint ..... thank god June panel was a joke July panel I think its still there just a lot less this time ... will see later this evening and post picture back.
black bar across top i can see but not to bothered about this in all honesty.
Colours have to admit whites are cleaner as a result but rest look to be calibrated identical to last panel.
I think my first panel dated May was the best colours just seemed to wow instantly , everyone who saw phone commented on display in a positive manner.
** dupe post del
Here, this is how mine looks like at min brightness: green tint and horizontal bar
Sending it back

Seems to be some QC issues, I'd suggest getting a replacement, I can't see any of these issues on my device personally

Might that be because your device is prior to May on build?
I think it’s pointless replacing now I’ve had three models and it seems inherent now from my own experiences.
Do you use dark mode?
Sorry for the questions just trying to get some feedback
I’m only speculating but my latest device also has it my only device which didn’t have it was built in May , I’m wondering if the early batches had good panels for reviews etc and they cheaped out after that to bring production costs down (speculation as I say) but seen this before with other companies.
One thing I’ve noticed on my latest device is it goes a lot brighter than my previous June model. I’m thinking if I want to keep this device, I’m going to have use light mode which is a shame, if we had root we could just black out all the grey parts like status bar notifications etc and mask issue.

not sure about your theory abt early batches; my device's QC date is April 22 and yet I have display issues
seems this type of issues are pretty common with this panel which is used by both Oppo and OnePlus

well that shoots that theory down
I dont think there`s much point swapping its like looking for a unicorn either return and try a device without this samsung panel or find a way to live with it sadly :/

yep, seems so.. a lottery
the thing is that I can see this issue only at very low brightness, somewhere below ~15%
and in everyday use the display is perfect (I anyway always use light theme)
but then again it bothers me knowing it is there
on the fence now:
send the Oppo back (already have return label) and try luck again with OP8 Pro (order placed, should be dispatched tomorrow; I sent back my first OP 8 for a refund due to same display issues)
or just live with it, keep Oppo and cancel OP 8 order...

Hold onto oppo await OnePlus if it's green then decide on which phone to keep or return both ... Less swaps
Good luck ?
How do you see your QC date?

I cancelled OP8 order that day as I thought that I can live with Oppo's screen. But I can't, so I sent it back today.
Ordered OP8 pro again, it is arriving tomorrow. Will update once received, fingers crossed.
