This firmware cant be rooted with the flashtool or the adb method.
With the adb method when the it's said:
Good, it worked! Now we are rebooting soon, please be patient! ( the device rebooted as excepetd)
Waiting for device to come up again....
Going to copy files to it's place
mount: permission denied (are you root?)
with flashtool: root hack did not work.
and can it be rooted with this?

If you have root now, you can flash the FTF file with flashtool without wipe data, then the root stays.

just flash it, unlock ur BL, then flash custom autoroot kernels... ThJap's and DeepUnknown's kernels work...

Confirmed that flashing via flashtool will lose root and you can regain root by any of above mentioned kernels on unlocked bootloader.... For locked bootloader, I don't think there is a method to get root as of now... I think bin4ry will have to update root script for that....

z998 root
Kingo works well for root ... one-click, simple, fast, SuperSU installed. Framaroot all versions fail on latest z998s, ATT plugged vulnerability
it works

I rooted the silly phone with kingo it worked great wish there was a rom for it though I like the mustang soo dubbed but it's original os is too plain for me..
New Method!
I've tried Framaroot and Motochopper, and neither worked for me.
So, with some research, I found a great root method and made a quick guide here:

Hope it helps

What is the model of the device? Be more specific how are we supposed to help when all you've said is that you need to root a device...
use Kingroot latest version. I just did it on my GF4. Then if you want to switch to custom recovery, just create it yourself by MTK Droid Toos.

Moto E Lte XT1538

Alright. What about root? Custom rom via safestrap or bootstrap? Anything? Lol

Temp root via Kingroot, but you don't get /system write access. No perm root, no full root, no ROMs, no bootloader unlock, etc
Thanks guys

I noticed something under Developer Options, *OEM Unlocking* Does that mean in the future Motorola will allow it?? I wish because with stock rom, it doesn't have much ram available. Well either way my sister will be happy, lol. Again thanx for your replies.

Motorola does allow it. VZW and ATT are the reason their versions are locked down. Sprint/TMo/USCellular/international are all unlockable via moto.
