Xperia Z2 Screen Sensitivity issue (with SGP Sony Xperia Z2 Screen Protector GLAS.tR) - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My new Xperia Z2 touch screen sensitivity seems to be too sensitive. I applied Sony Xperia Z2 Screen Protector GLAS.tR NANO SLIM and it is very good one. The problem is the screen registered finger hovering as a touch!! I don't even touch the screen, just hovering it, it seems to press by itself. By using Style Cover Stand SCR10 - Sony for Z2, it get even worse. The screen touches the cover while I am walking, sometimes it changes music and calls someone too. This is very hard to use. While I talk on the phone, the cover touches the number and sometime touches at End Call. I have checked the Glove mode, and it is always Turned off. I asked Xperia Care, they suggested that, I need to turn off the Glove Mode, and turn off, Double Tab to wake. I did them, but the issue is still occurred. I have updated firmware to the newest one, the problem is still occurred. Has anyone encounter the same issue as I have? If you have, can you solve it? if so how to do so?
Please help me.
Thank you very much

You could try going to settings > accessibility and then at the bottom change touch and hold delay to medium or long. Might make a difference.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. i will try it =]
Do you have ever have this issue before? i just wonder that, this over sensitive is due to the screen itself, or the glass protector

I've had it were I've accidentally exited apps or tapped on something by mistake as the screen was too sensitive. That setting seems to have made a difference though...unless I'm just more aware of the problem so make a conscious effort not to leave my fingers hovering over the screen. I've not tried the phone without a screen protector so can't say if this has made any difference or not.

Thank you very much =]

Well I've not notice an improvement with different screen protectors. Started with a Spigen antiglare one and have a Roxfit antifingerprint one on now. Same sensitivity.

Does it registers as a touch when you hovering your finger above home button / apps?
in my case, just hovering it, it registered as a touch =[

Yup it does unfortunately.

Do you have, by any chance, a third party launcher installed? My screen sensitivity was messed up with Nova Launcher, had to uninstall it.

Just dont :/

Hello, remove any laucher you have till new update of the firmware it will definitely bug your phone :/

I'm using stock launcher. Yeah I hope Sony fixes this with their next update - and hopefully they are aware of it.

Check you don't have "gloves mode" switched on. I had that on and I think it increases sensitivity so when hovering it registers. I've since turned it off and seems to work fine. Settings, display, glove mode.
Hope it helps

[Q] Change sensitivity of proximity sensor

Is there any way to change the sensitivity of the proximity sensor. It seems every screen protector I try makes the screen turn off when in a call even without anything near the sensor. I had to cut one of the screen protectors to get around it (but had messed up a corner when applying so I replaced it)
Or is there a way to completely disable it so I just have to hit the power button when in a call to manually turn the screen on or off.
+1
Dont have the same problem but would be helpful.
There is a distance setting in the build.prop file. You could try adjusting that and seeing if that helps.

Perfect. Changed the value (increased it from default of 60) and its working great now. Thanks for that tip.

Anyway, why do you guys keep using the screen protectors with this gorilla glass phones? I have carried Moto Milestone in my pocket for a year and D2G for 3 months and there are no scratches on them whatsoever.
I use them on every phone I get because although it is gorilla glass it can still get scratches under the right conditions and I for one do not want my $400+ phone to have a scratch on the screen. Never had a phone that had issues like this with screen protectors and the proximity sensor. Multiple iPhones, Dell streak, nexus one, droid, galaxy s. I've tried two different screen protectors with the atria and both have this issue.
I'm having issues with my proximity sensor too, but it seems that I can't make it turn off the screen when I'm talking. I'm not using any screen protector but I do have a case. It was working fine till a week ago but now I just have to block the phone every time I get a call.
The only difference is that I've installed 2 new games, maybe those are affecting the sensor?
Another thing that isn't working anymore is the auto brightness that's always set to minimum, no matter the light conditions. The phone is online for 260+ hours already (had it go to 500+ before but had to turn it off to add a micro sd card, just to be sure it would find it).

Ugh... thing is if you drop your phone, it could crack both with screen protector and without one. If you grind the screen against your keys, it will get scratched through the protective film.
If you use it normally - the chance of scratching it really small. Just my 2 cents.

My wife's phone had a screen protector on and got scratched by being in her purse. The actual screen though had no marks. The screen protectors help. Obviously each incident is different but they can help prevent some damage so in my opinion they are worth it.

Hi there,
Got the same trouble..... but I just noticed it work fine at the sun (outdoor)..... turn the screen off in the shadow..... and switch on in the sun....
so I think a light adjustment has to be done.... but where ?...
Thanks to developers

Hopefully I can explain this...

when I'm reading web page, and I'm scrolling up or down, the tablet randomly ZOOMS right in to part of the page i'm on. Often to a section that I'm not even reading. Is this a known issue? Am I doing something wrong?
thanks, hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about cuz it's driving me crazy!!
This happens to me sometime, all I can say is that the touch screen is too sensitive, I have to make sure that my finger doesn't stay on the screen to long.

The Sony S is super sensitive to quiver-fast double taps and finger jiggles (that you may not know you are doing.) Pretty sure that you'll get used to it and, even without thinking about it, simply adjust your browsing method. Takes a day or so to get beyond it.
Well, I've got my tablet for a few months now and I think every day that this is a pain in the ass. Regarding this issue I love the ipad. Or my galaxy s. Neither of them have this issue.

Did you put a screen protector on the screen without removing the factory one? I did at first and was having the same issue as you. Couldn't even type a message because it kept double tapping letters i was trying to type and scrolling while browsing sucked.
I took off the one I put on and just have the factory one now and, though it still happens some times, it is definitely better than it was before.

Yeah I had to do this same thing. The extra screen protector desensitized the hell out of tablet S. I've taken it off and it's much better, but still double taps at times on 1 tap.

The salesman at the sony store put it on for me. So im not sure. I'd like to this he dd it properly.
I truly believe my tablet is defective. The problem I mentioned above plus horrible and slow scrolling, widgets disappearing, widgets freezing. Etc....
My tablet has been a lot better since I removed the protective film covering the screen. The cover was kinda thick. Now the colors are brighter and the viewing angle is better. I like the texture of the glass too.
I also don't notice the "ghost touches" that would happen right after I'd touch the screen, kind of like a double tap. Those were few and far between, but I've been enjoying my tablet sans protector enough, that this is just a bonus.
I'm not guaranteeing it, but this might fix your issue. You could also try replacing it with a thinner protector. My nook color's touchscreen was crazy without a protector, maybe this tablet is the opposite.
---
It also sounds like you could use a factory reset. I was having issues with my tablet being crappy and slow, and after doing a factory reset, freezing the unneeded apps (pretty much all of the Sony ones), disabling the media scanner, and applying the V6 supercharger script OOM values, my tablet has been pretty snappy.
I've been using the new Go Launcher HD home app in place of the default launcher which I froze (aka disabled the package).

Same with me, my tablet came with a free protector and the shop put it on for me. I am not sure if there is one already there as some insisted here but I have no sensitivity issue even if there are two screen protectors!
Yes it has a protector on it. It is very tough to keep the screen from getting cracked. To remove it, start at one of the corners with your fingernail. I used the bottom rounded corners to start. At first the screen will feel a little rough, but that's from the adhesive. Clean it with sone electronics spray and a microfiber cloth.
I like mine better with out it. The screen feels like glass now instead of plastic.
Yes..the tablet comes with a screen protector preinstalled which you can see if you look closely at the edge of the screen.

screen protector
I have the same touch sensitivity problems on my Tablet S (16GB WiFi) purchased in Singapore. Frequent hypersensitive touch behavior leading to random zooming and double taps, 'stickiness' in scrolling menus etc.
I read about the factory installed screen protector here on XDA but was unsuccessful in removing it...couldn't even get the edges to come off. Went down to the local Singapore Sony Service center and asked them to take a look at the hypersensitive touch issue...and what do you know...I couldn't reproduce it on the spot. Tried for 15 min, but the tablet behaved perfectly during the period . Couldn't convince the service tech that something was wrong.
Anyway, i asked them to remove the factory supplied screen protector and they said it should NOT be removed since it's not merely a protector, but a necessary part of the display for improving color reproduction and decreasing glare. Don't know if he was BSing me, but I left it at that. Note the image on this official website under the 'Sony’s amazing TruBlack™ display' section...
[EDIT: Looks like I cannot post a URL as a new user. Please check the Sony Singapore Tablet S official website]
I bought the official Sony screen protector (matte type) and had them install it. The sensitivity is much better now and the frequency of random zoom and double-tap has decreased drastically; but it's still there and pops up occasionally.
I am unsure of what to do next. Could it be a software issue? Among the browsers, I notice that it is most prominent/frequent in Opera Mobile. Occurs less frequently in the stock browser.
Today, I noticed that we have a possibility to set the sensibilty in our settings. Just go to input help (probably not the correct word... mine is german. It's the setting with the hand as a symbol). Within, there is a setting called something like touchscreen gestures. My tablet was default set to short. I changed it and now I don't experience the zoom issue anymore.

I have no screen sensitivity problem on my tablet with extra screen protector on (I'm not sure if there is one factory installed on my tablet until today) so this function is useless to me
Hmm it seems that the touch and hold adjustment worked for me so far. Nice find!

Touch screen too sensitive

I've noticed that the touch screen will sometimes press before I actually touch it. How can I decrease sensitivity. I'm using CleanRom Developer Edition 1.2.
Yes! I've had this same problem too! No answer for you, though.
I believe I've had this all along, on GB, ICS, and a variety of ROMs, so I'm afraid it may be a hardware issue. But, I'm no expert...
Thanks. Definitely no reason to go to the GNexus (Ugghh). I've heard that screen protectors help so I ordered some to try that out.

Ordered screen protectors, they come in Monday. This is really the only issue I have with the device. If it's something that the phone just ships with I'm fine with it. If not, I'm wondering if I should return due to a faulty touch sensor.

I have set up many rezounds for our company and the strange thing is that this oversensitive behavior you are reporting is happening with completely stock phones as well. I've noticed it with 3 different Rezounds. Very strange behavior indeed. Complete resets of the phones doesn't seem to help. I rooted one and did a complete reflash of the phone and the problem went away. It's almost like the flash went wrong somehow, but very strange to see from a phone that came directly from Verizon brand new.
Personally I like the sensitivity. I would rather a nice light touch be registered then having to mash my finger on the screen. Makes typing easier.

It's not a light touch. I've checked, it sometimes registers just above the touch screen.
I have yet to have the sensitivity be a problem... Maybe yall came from different phones than me
Sent from my Dinc... I mean Rezound
My rezound is completely stock/ not rooted/flashed or anything, I've noticed this since the day I got it in Nov. sometimes my fingers can be a few mm above the screen and it registers a touch. sometimes it doesn't bother me but sometimes if my finger is slightly above the search button and it registers it while i'm trying to do something else, it's pretty annoying
Stock, Rooted...
I've never seen this issue. The screen is very sensitive, but not any different from my previous phone (Orig Droid Incredible).

Same. The sensativity is more like the iPhone. I hate to say it, but I loved the iPhone for that. I used to type so fast. Then I got my first android phone and had to slow down because it didn't seem to always register my input. The rezound I can type really fast again.

I agree with this as well. I do notice it's way sensitive. I remember a few times where it registered a touch and I completely swore I never touched the screen. Anyway it doesn't bother me one bit.

[Q]How to reduce touchscreen sensitivity?

I think it's way to sensitive.
Sometimes when I move my finger pass the screen it presses the button. It doesn't happen all the time tho. Just 10% of my typing, which is also happening now.
Thank you for your time.

Feels alright to me, but apparently Gorilla Glass 2 being thinner helps increase sensitivity.

The OFFICIAL samsung said my hands were dry with caused extra static (in Thailand it's a bit cold and dry despite that it's a rainy season, maybe it's the air-con)
and that they recommended applying Vasline to my hands prior to use... which seemed to be pointless, that's a lil too much of "Design for Humans" don't ya think lol
I wish i could readjust the sensitivity like I could with my Acer Iconia Tab A500
Mine does the ghost pressing too sometimes. It isn't often, but my finger hovering over the display will activate it.

if you think it's very sensitive for you, then you can apply screen guard to reduce the touch screen sensitivity.

I only found gyro calibration and did that. I'm also on rom (Omega - ICS) but did not see anything on stock either. I remember on SGS2 there was option to calibrate where you had to touch corners and center.
It's not that annoying, at first I thought that it might be a feature - air touch
Or it might be that my screen protector does the opposite - increase sensibility. In any case I need to get new one because this one is not clear (its a bit matte) and colors don't show up correctly.

[Q] Touchscreen sensitivity

Hi - If I touch the screen *very* gently, it doesn't register as a touch.
Does anyone else have this? If your P9000 is OK, please let me know.
Most of the time it's OK, but it's extra annoying when I'm swiping a long word which gets split into two smaller words. I do have the screen protector on - Obviously I don't want to remove it just for testing, but I realise it might be affecting sensitivity.
Over the years I've had ~5 phones with capacitive touchscreens. This is the first I can touch without it the phone 'realising'.
Thanks, Richard
PS - I've enabled the 'Show touches' in Developer options. The accuracy is fine, it's just it's not quite sensitive enough.

I know if i remove it gonna be okay again.. maybe possible to put a thinner folie on the screen and thats gonna be better. the protector glass is a little bit thick. probably this is the problem.
I also experienced a reduction in sensitivity after applying a glass screen protector. Without it phone always reacted okay, but with my protector the first miliseconds of my touch aren't registered it seems. I have more trouble typing and sometimes swiping lags. I have adjusted my usage and can live with it now though.
Yes a screen protector can make it less sensitive. But all I did was download this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=br.shop4apps.touchscreenbooster.com
And then set it to super optimised and make sure it runs at boot and problem solved.

It's working for me, thanks! :good:
Hi - I tried that, it didn't make any difference... Unless it needs a reboot after changing the settings?
Did you use it on your Elephone?

Hmmmm... I've just tried reinstalling it.
No joy for me. Sensitivity is no different.
I set multipoints to maximum of 2 and rebooted but it's allowing 3.
I live in hope, though!

Hi. Yes I'm using it on my elephone p9000 right now. I didn't need a reboot tbh. So not sure. Could be a fiffy touchscreen you have in yours?
i installed this app too. i did not resatart the phone. maybe i feel a little difference, but hard to tell if it really helps or not. i have to use few days to tell its placebo or not

Well see how it goes and hopefully it does the trick. The p9000 glass isn't anything special. Don't want it to crack or scratch so we need something to protect it.
I have tried several touch calibrarion apps.
It seems like the restart is necessary to apply the new settings.
for me this application gave the best result:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=redpi.apps.touchscreencalibration
...and i still hoping its not just a placebo effect

same here : no effect
I have the same problem but all the above apps don't work for me. I will try to swap my screenprotector for another one tommorow. Hopefully this works.
I've found out/realised that the bottom of the phone is less sensitive than the top, so compare the top and bottom half of the screen.
The top of the screen is *almost* as sensitive as every previous smartphone I've owned or used (mainly Samsungs, HTCs and various iPhones). I can just touch the screen without it registering, but only just.
The bottom of the screen is a lot less sensitive. When selecting (tapping) things, it prob wouldn't be much of an issue, but when I Swype using the 'keyboard', I get dropped letters.
A screen protector reduces sensitivity further (a glass one more than a flexible plastic one, from my experience)

I changed my screen protector for one from gearbest. Now it's working like a charm!
