[Q] saferoot Verizon Note 2 Stuck at Waiting for device to appear - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II SCH-i605 which has the 4.3 OTA. I downloaded Saferoot, unzipped it - and tried to root. I am ALWAYS getting stuck at "waiting for device to appear"
My computer recognizes my phone as an installer, camera, or media device - depending on which I have selected. I have tried running Saferoot using 4 different USB ports, 5 different USB cables (including the original white one the phone came with) and EVERY time I get stuck at "waiting for device to appear".
Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Uninstall the drivers and reboot. Install the samsung drivers and reboot. ensure windows can search & and install from windows update. now try the process. the drivers are the toughest part of the process.

I am at a total loss.
I did everything you suggested. still no joy.
I did notice that every time I connect my phone I am given the RSA Key box and click Always from this phone...but it asks this EVERY time I connect my phone.
If I clicked Always ... why does it always ask me?
I am thinking I should have kept my Droid RAZR.........
I really do not understand how my computer recognizes my phone as an SCH-i605 with bot the "phone" and "card" as possible drives but the command prompt cannot see my phone...
I have reinstalled the drivers at least 3 times now - from the device itself, from the Samsung website, and from another forum on this site...nothing is working...
I even re-flashed the 4.3 .tar file using Odin and went through the entire process of re-setting up my phone...no joy.
Oh Android - why do you hate me so?

@jburchii,
You've probably done this already, but just making sure....Have you enabled USB debugging for your phone under developer options?
If not... you can find this in your system settings.

Yes - Did this...I am re-installing Kies hopefully this will work...oh the drudgery.
Update: I just installed Kies 3 - I currently have the Samsung USB driver for mobile phones installed (it is in my "Programs and Features)...still getting stuck on "waiting for device"
I mean NOTHING seems to be working. Does anyone who successfully completed this on an SCH-i605 have a copy of the driver they are using?

I've ran into this problem before and one or both of these fixed it for me.
Use the factory USB cable that came with your Samsung Phone
Try another computer

So nothing worked until I downloaded Safe Root.apk
Now I AM rooted on Nebulae 3.6.

Need some help with drivers

Hey Guys,
I have had my note 2 for a couple weeks now and have finally decided I want to root/unlock it. I am running into some very frustrating problems trying to get the drivers to install. I have tried using Kies to install them, that doesn't work. I have tried the toolkit and that also doesn't work. Every time I plug my phone into my computer after installing the drivers (Yes, I have checked "USB DEBUGGING") it just continuously starts flipping back and forth between "connected as an installer" and "MTTP".
I am at a complete loss on how to get this thing connected to my computer. When I check the status on the toolbar it always says Samsung_Android = "failed" or "device unplugged". Device manager picks up the phone but there is the yellow warning box present and when I select update drivers it tells me they have already been installed and updated.
I first thought I was having problems because I am running windows via bootcamp on my macbook, but I have tried installing the drivers on 3 other PCs and each one will not pick up my phone. This isn't my first go-round with rooting/unlocking phones, so to say this is very frustrating is a complete understatement.
Is it possible I have a faulty phone or is there something else I can try?
Thanks for the help.
Go to control panel/system/about computer. Should show u what ur computers running. And on the left is advanced settings. Open it and go to hrdware. The setting on the bottom about driver installation, adjust that to only install drivers from windows if not on my computer. Un install all ur phone drivers, restart, re install, restart and u should be all good. Windows pisses me off. Lol hope this helps.

Just tried your suggestion and the drivers are still failing to download when I connect my phone. Any other suggestions? I may just take it to Verizon tomorrow and ask for another phone. I have never had this happen before.
Anyone else with suggestions? I may be taking it in to verizin today if I can't get this figured out.

SOOOO stupid......I had to completely restore my phone back to factory and the drivers installed finally. That was a terrible experience, but at least I can root and unlock now!! Thanks guys

I have tried everything please help

Computer wont recognize my device anymore. I have downloaded every set of drivers from this forum, from the samsung website, I even tried downloading kies but it wouldnt recognize it either.
It worked before I did the following and now it doesnt.
First I rooted my phone with route 66 everything was going fine until I made the huge mistake (not knowing) and downloaded rom manager so that I could do a nandroid backup. Well as we all know now, you cant do that. So I got the deadly uellow verizon triangle saying unauthorized software bring it to the store. So I went through the xda forums and found the one that told me how to fix it. I used odin with the alternate restore and got it back up and running. So I wanted to go back and use adams one click unlock and root. I got everything downloaded and ready. I put my phone in developer mode and plugged it in. It starts trying to find the drivers and then it flips from debugger mode to media mode everytime. It starts seeing it as everything but a samsung phone. It says found camera and even cd rom but not the phone. I have read through everything and tried everything I could think of but I am at a loss. PLEASE HELP

Turn off your phone, connect to your computer with the USB cord and turn back on your phone. It should start the drivers and connect to your device.

I tried that, it is still not seeing it like it is supposed to. I was able to get Odin to recognize it so that I could flash the rooted stock again but I can't get Casual Jailbreak to work. I'm not sure if it is because the drivers or not but I am guessing it has something to do with it. Every time I plug it in, it starts searching for drivers and then always switches from usb debugging mode to media mode. The checkmark is still in usb debugging but I don't think it actually is. You can watch it go from device as installer to media.
Are you using the driver install app (zadig i think its called) to install the heimdall driver on top of "gadget serial". Looking at your other post it seems like a driver issue. One thing ive noticed is, if odin can see the device then heimdalll cant and vice/versa. So if odin can see it you have the wrong driver, if you are infact installing the heimdall driver my second question is, does windows xp x64 use driver sig enforcement like win7 x64 does? if so you probably need to disable it. Just throwing my $0.02 out there.
Are you using the official USB cable? I had an aftermarket cable that had worked for months, then decided to quit working. It works with other devices just not the Note2. Changed to my original cable and all is well.

If it sees the device in the dumb verizon cd mode thing and ptp than it can see adb. Its not the cable. however i would try setting the usb debugging first than set it to camera mode. adb should still be able to pick it up

Need Help Getting Back to Stock

I rooted my phone a while back with a one click root process that rooted it to a rooted version of the stock rom. Recently I recieved notification that Jelly Bean is now available for my phone and that I need to connect to my computer via usb to update. But, my computer keeps getting a "device not recognized" error. I tried to install Kies for the drivers with no luck, uninstalled the drivers from Kies and installed the others straight from the Samsung website with no luck. I have tried 2 different computers and three different usb cables, including 2 oem usb cables. I have windows 7 which may be the problem. Are there any work arounds like going to stock from my sd card? My phone is no longer rooted, but for some reason still has Superuser which i can uninstall still. I brought my phone to Sprint which the guy was really cool and informed me that its not the usb port on the phone and that odin is recognizing it, but odin on my computers doesn't even see it.

Did you have the Android drivers installed previously? I'm assuming that you're trying to install the drivers for the first time on that your computer and that you have USB Debugging enabled. I'll also be assuming you disabled driver verification, which can be a problem in some computers.
First you need to boot your phone normally, and plug it into the computer. Press Win+R to open the "Run" dialog and run "devmgmt.msc," which is the Device Manager. Look up the "Unknown Device" that is your phone and double click it. Click on the Event tab and check the Hardware ID in the drop-down box. It should look something like this (sorry mine is Android Composite ADB Interface because I've installed it already, but that's what it should look like in the end):
Now you have to make a new section in the driver inf. It should be in the google adt bundle and in the extras\google directory. The file name is android_winusb.inf. In the picture below my tablet is the iDeaUSA CT702. You need to add one of these sections in both the x86 and x64 section if you have a 64 bit computer. If not, just put it in the x86 section. The %USB stuff needs to match that in the Device Manager Hardware ID.
Now you should have a device called Android Composite ADB Interface or anything like that is fine.
It says there are no drivers and that there is no hardware id. All there is are device instance id. Im not quite sure where the driver.inf is located. This has been a pain for the past week. Hopefully we can figure this out. Lol.

I think there may have been something wrong with the rom. If i could just reinstall stock i think it would work. Just need to get the USB to read to the computer.

If you don't know where the driver is, then download a new one. I've uploaded the official Google USB driver to mediafire here: Mediafire - usb_driver.zip
You need to modify this driver, then when asked to select the inf file for driver installation choose the android_winusb.inf inside. After installation your phone should be recognized. Please tell me if there's any uncertainties you have.
Have you tried connecting the device with usb dev mode disabled? I know its strange but I've a few devices that use different drivers if the usb dev mode is enabled. I've also devices where I need to enable usb mass storage setting every time (settings menu or slide down notification). Also it never hurts to try a new cable, usb wires do tend to wear out and are very cheaply manufactured so they break inside with the slightest tug of the wire. I know most of this stuff is uber basic but I've made things much worse on countless occasions by overlooking simple stuff like this.

Good point. If you don't have developer mode usb debugging enabled, then there will be no "unknown device" as shown above in the device manager. Be more detailed about "no luck" please.

No data/odin won't recognize and can't connect to computer

I flashed up to 4.2.2 the newest 2,2 Liquidsmooth rom, didn't like it, so I wen't to flash back to 4.1 jellybeans build 13. I wiped everything, from, factory, cache/dalvik 3 times and then flashed. I loaded it up and it was buggy, so I wiped and reflashed again, and like the last time I have no signal and my phone no longer connects to my computer. Everytime I plug it in it says installing drivers but it will never connect. I get a message saying there is nothing on my computer to detect my phone even though it could 20 minutes ago. I have an odin stock file I wan't to flash but can't as odin won't recognize it. It makes a sound upon being plugged into my computer and shows up under device manager saying drivers are all up to date but I still get nothing. I can still use twrp though etc. What do I do?
Good luck dude I can't even root my new note because of this issue

I feel lucky that I rooted my phone as soon as i got it and everything went successful. Because like 3 days later my phone stops communicating with the computer...
Thankfully I have a micro sd card so i can do flashable zips... But if I ever have to Odin back to stock or use Odin for anything I'm screwed.
From what I've read it isn't a phone issue is a Windows issue? But I don't know if that's true because i have yet to find a fix...

Thanks! Simple, but it worked for me, too. Took about 2 seconds to find it and install it.
Windows did need to update a driver first on its own so that it would have something to update. Otherwise you may not get the Update driver option when you right click the driver in Device Manager.
Something like this:
1. Connect the phone in the mode (phone on, or phone in download mode) that isn't working
2. Start/Right click Computer/Properties/Device Manager
3. Right click on Android or Samsung drivers that appear
4. Choose Update Driver, Browse computer for drivers, Pick from a list on my computer
5. Click on the most promising looking drivers that come up until one works

I have read and read....googled and youtube just about everything to get my note 3 AT&T rerooted! AT&T had an update on Friday 2-28-14 over the air. i noticed it was updating while i was at work. when it was done it removed my root by Kingo. I have tried like most of you numerous times with no success. I took the advise from this thread and used Vroot it took about 96 seconds and Bam....rooted! then i followed the instructions on this link ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532818 ) and now I'm done! THANKS!!!!!!!! hope this helps. I did this on my mac through parallels 9 my device is note 3 SM-N900A 4.3 build N900AUCBNB4
I had the same problem as everyone else. Odin would not recognize my note 2 (Windows 7) or acknowledge that it was connected. I got the correct drivers to load by going to USB options on the phone and checking Connect as: Media Device (MTP) while connected to the PC. Windows automatically installed the drivers. I then shutdown my device, put it in download mode, and Odin recognized it and I was able to flash.

Make Odin Recognize Note 2
1. Open Odin
2. Get Samsung Note into Odin Mode (on off state, hold down volume down, home, and then power button)
3. Plug in to USB
4. If it doesn't recognize your device, take out battery (keep it plugged in!), wait a few seconds and put battery back in
5. Odin should now see your phone under ID:COM

i605 Note 2 to PC will not connect.

hey everyone, so ive have went thru all the threads i can find, done alot of research and have come up short. seems like alot of the users with the Verizon I605 Samsung Note 2 have the same problem, not connecting to their PC's.
-ive restarted both my note 2 and my PC numerous times.
-ive installed/uninstalled/re-installed the official Samsung website device drivers
-tried other USB ports
-tried up to 4 different USB/Mini USB cords
-made sure USB debugging was switched on
-Tried Samsung Kies, come to find out it doesn't support the I605 Note 2
-called Verizon and Samsung directly and both actually offered me a position as a tech after i told them all the things i did to figure it out, because it was way more then they could handle.
i know it has connected before, as i have done it once or twice a few weeks back but now it wont connect, drivers fail to install, and nothing else works. i have also tried every other method mentioned in the other threads. nothing has worked.
is there any fix for this? was it cause by the latest update?
im running 4.1.2/ VRAMC3
and im using Windows 7
please anyone lmk if there is a fix for this. ive exhausted all avenues known to me. thanks in advance.
Happened to me too, it's USB port in your computer. If you have any other computer or laptop try using that.
You can also try wireless connection for file transfer.

The appropriate forum would probably be more helpful.
Plus, are you getting any error messages? I've had issues with connecting the Sprint GN2. If I install the Samsung Drivers, I get a "Missing Hardware ID" error. I just found it's better not to install drivers. Let Windows install what drivers it can. Not all the drivers will install and will get an error message about device not successfully installed. But enough install that the GN2 will connect so you can move files around for MTP. See a thread I did back in December, linky
Also, you can try out SG Flash Drive Enabler. I've tried it out. It works pretty well. It has quirks, but does allow you to use your SDHC card as a flash drive. You have to use the MTP to access the phone's storage.
oh man...*face palm* sorry about posting in the wrong forum guys, i was about to crash and i didn't even realize. my mad.
MODS: please move this to the correct Forum section at your earliest convenience, thanks :silly:
i have found that airdroid does work for wifi file transfers for such things as pictures, music...etc. but im wanting to root my note 2 and it needs a direct line from the phone to the pc to work.
ill check out those links posted up and see what how it goes. but we still need a fix for this. kinda lame only (well most) the verizon SN2 is having this problem.

You may want to use ToolKit. I believe it's setup for AT&T tool. Uninstall KIES and all the samsung driver on the your PC. Choose to have ToolKit install the drivers. It should get your enough connection for ADB to work and be able to root and install a custom recovery. I had to use it a couple days ago to get a custom recovery back on the GN2 and I was getting the Missing Hardware ID error and still worked.

Ive done that very process. Uninstalled kies and installed the toolkit drives. Some reason it would sort of connect but then disconnect. Never stayed on and wasnt able to be picked up as connected on the Odin program.

I had a problem in windows 7 where it would connet to Windows update and try to get drivers for everything once they were connected. I turned off windows looking at windows update for drivers, uninstalled the driver for the phone, then installed Samsung's drivers. my phone showed up in windows again. now im able to get to both sd cards.. did you try that?

where did you go on windows 7 to turn off the above mentioned? the middle part confuses me a bit. so your saying you turned off the windows feature to look for driver updates when the phone is connected via USB?
if you dont mind, please walk me thru your process. thanks in advance.

thank you so much for the link. but still no dice. i uninstalled the drivers i had before, did your method, and then downloaded the drivers again from the toolkit. i still dont get a serial number in the toolkit showing the drivers are good to go, and the phone still doesn't connect.
WHAT THE DEUCE?!

Do you have Kies installed? I have to have Kies installed along with the other drivers to use Casual, Odin, or any of the other tools

Kies was un-installed per instuctions on the toolbox. i guess i could try and re-install it and retry everything.
EDIT: just remembered that Kies dosnt support the Verizon Note 2....lame sauce.

i am going to try to download a older driver that was working before and see if that works. its linked near the bottom of the above posted link in one of the replies. ill come back with results.
ok so i downloaded the samsung drivers version 1.4.6.0 and followed the directions on the link i provided above. the drivers installed successfully, but the CASUAL(R515b) No You Verizon! program doesn't seem to see the phone connected to the computer. and just continually loops. sigh...this is getting to get stupid. such a simple task yet its not connecting.
EDIT: the drivers SAY they have installed successfully, but the computer still doesn't recognize the phone is connected. even reads on the phone that the software wasnt found to connect to the computers, and the CASUAL program also tells me that the phone isnt connected....sigh...seriously....WTF.
When you install your driver's on your pc you need to restart your pc...have you tryed that?

While Kies does not officially support the VZW Note 2 it is the only way me and my friends can get our PCs to see our Note 2s, that's the only reason I ask and it is usually par for course. Its what's suggested in these cases if it isn't already installed. It can hurt to give it a shot and see if it helps anything, if not you can just uninstall it again.

And if that doesn't help you can always try the code in the last post of this page and see if it works:

ive redownloaded it, so ill give it another try. are you saying just have it downloaded and then do nothing with it? or do you somehow get it to connect? i mean just having it as a presents on the computer to have something else connect seems odd to me but hell im down for whatever at this point. ima load it up now and try.
