Tether app? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

does anyone know of a tethering app that works? i tried wifi tether router, but according to the dev (who i had many email discussions with) you have to create an APN that uses IPV4 instead of V6. well, when i create an APN with ipv4 i can't connect to the data network.
any ideas?

...
a 3rd party tether, btw.

The stock one works.

If you have to ask "why", please refrain from posting because we're on completely separate wavelengths.

this works for you?

I don't have any need to tether with anything at the moment. I was just trying to answer your original question without violation.
There have been many users that have gotten tether to work with unlimited data (pulling from the data instead of tether) and there are guides all over the place, just do a search.
Once thing I know is adjusting the APNs and using a different client protocol in your browser on your pc is required to achieve what you desire.
Check a couple custom roms on here too.
I believe the alliance rom and project infinity rom have both fixed the apn from the get go.
Hope that helps.
Ps > fox fi worked great on my previous phones when I had Verizon, but now I'm on t mobile and rely on wifi calling because the data network is out of my range where I live, and I have free wifi at both my jobs so, hence the reason I haven't had the need to tether, yet.
Good luck. And when I get back home in about 20 minutes I will search the forums and post a link or two for you if you haven't figured it out yet.

i asked for anyone that knows of a tethering app that works. on an s5 (as the forum indicates). that implies, nay, dictates, that the individual providing their input has first hand knowledge of whether it works on an S5.
if you don't have direct first hand experience with this working, then you're not able to answer my original question without violation.
anyone else?

The stock one WORKS as well as foxfi.
There you go. Your question has been answered....
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

not at all. have you succesfully used foxfi to successfully wifi tether on your S5? i don't care about any other phone because this isn't those phone's forums nor does it matter to me in the slightest.
as for the stock, i've already addressed that. sorry for your confusion.

interesting that you say foxfi works on the S5. the developer's page doesn't indicate as much:
http://pdanet.co/help/devices.php
you've used PDANET on your S5 and it worked?

well, doesn't matter anyway. tried pdanet/foxfi. not only does it fail to start, it tried to use the built in provisioning. failx2.

Yes, and yes.
Here is another one that works.
These screen shots are taken from my s5.
Proof it works.
Are you rooted?
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

yup, rooted. tried that one too. i can get it to "turn on", but i get errors saying that the tether couldn't be started. when it starts successfully, there's a data counter at the bottom.

Using fox fi.
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

the first screenshot showing that last icon on the right indicates it's simply using your phone's built-in tether. this is not what i'd like to occur. when i opened up my own phone's built in hotspot, the network name was changed to "foxfi" which further indicates foxfi isn't really doing anything except starting the built in tether.
looking for something independent of the phone's native "tethering" ability.

wifi tether router is working for me. it took me a lot of research here on xda but i finally got it to work. For the app settings follow the devs instruction but do that create the apn. You just have to change the original apn from ipv6 to ipv4 using a file manager. I used esfile explorer. Do some research here in xda to find the exact steps you need to take to change it.

thanks. im beginning to understand that for whatever reason, my phone cannot establish a data connection when im in ipv4. i think this is the root of all my tethering problems.

With WiFi tether plus you have to tap it on then tap off and tap on again for it to work right. Also, these apps won't work unless you modify your apn like instructed because ipv4 and dun are the only way that works right now till ipv6 is available.

Well according to TMOB you will need to pay $15.00 per month for that feature to work. But I read in some other post that if you clear the APN type and Authentication type from the T-mobile APN, then it works.

Ok, wait a minute...
When I go into my APN settings, there are two listed, "T-Mobile Data" and T-Mobile MMS".
Did you just remove those entries altogether? Or did you just delete the text in the APN Type in the T-Mobile Data APN?
EDIT:
Ok, I got it. Delete the APN entry for "T-Mobile MMS". Then, go into the "T-Mobile Data" APN settings and clear all the entries from the "APN Type" field, it should read "<not set>".
Yup it works......FINALLY

Tether was not working before the apn edit.
After the apn edit the tether worked... for about 200 mb of standard web usage.
About 100mb through T-Mobile pushed a message to my cell (showed up as a globe with a "w" on it in the status bar) saying that I needed to subscribe to a Tethering and Data plan else my service may be interrupted (or something similar).
I continued on and in the middle of submitting my report through a secured service it just stuck there as though I lost data connection. I opened up a new page and it took me to the offers.tmobile.com page. From that point on I lost my tethering abilities.
This morning I was so desperate for my tethering I went ahead and subscribed. The alternative is my work Sprint data card.

I was just informed that on the SGS2, they frooze the app "Tethering Manager" with titanium backup. Can any of you rooted guys try this and confirm whether it works on the Amaze too? If so im sure we can just leave that apk out of future rom builds and be perfect!
i will look into that or just rebuild it from the other leaks i have
Tether via Bluetooth DUN?
Can anyone report whether it's possible to tether via Bluetooth Dial-Up-Networking? Does the Amaze support that particular Bluetooth profile?
If so, does tethering that way invoke the TMobile upsell screens, or does the browsing work without problems.
The easiest way to activate DUN would be to use PDAnet, and connect via bluetooth from a DUN-client device.
I can do this easily from my TMo N1, but I'm curious to know whether this is a way around the tethering problems people are having.

I just saw a post at another forum about FoxFi. We know now that Sprint banned the app, but the story is that Sprint is also tracking how much data is used with this and charging if it goes over 5gb/month, so it's basically just the same as the built-in hotspot app.
Now, I'm not sure if Sprint actually has the capability to track and differentiate data usage between regular phone data access and hotspot access, but that's what I read. Just a warning in case somebody wants to look further into it.

It's not that I don't believe you.
I flashed yesterday, and it's a very nice Rom BTW, but couldn't get GPS to work. So, I backed up, restored, Bareback, did profile and prl, because they are working on the towers here, but GPS lock, opened Navigation and set a course, then restored your rom.
Still didn't work. Don't know.
And I was having problems with your debloated gapps on Carbon, and another rom, but it works great with your rom....except for keyboard swipe.

Sent from my SM-N930P using Tapatalk
The US/Snapdragon variants are actually missing the framework and apk, it works just fine in the international versions. It has been removed and replaced by our/US carrier versions of Caller Id that you have to pay for which is total bs. There is a thread about this in the original Note 7 forum.
Nice find, there is quite a bit of stuff to get into in there, you can change the roaming settings from just voice to voice and data as well as auto call recording

Damn yeah that is dumb. Our version isn't the same or as good. It doesn't screen calls or give us useful info. Can you link to the thread? Hopefully we can get this working without root

This did not work for me. Then today I was poking around in the settings and got it to work. I went into Applications in settings and then in the top right enabled system apps. I scrolled down to smart caller ID and clicked it. I went to permissions and enabled contacts.
Anyway an hour later I got a call from a family member from their home phone. I do not have this persons name saved in my phone. It said their first, last, and middle initial right on the screen. I was like wow it's working. So naturally I went into package disable pro and turned it off LOL. I tested it again with the same caller and this time it didn't show their caller ID, only their phone number. I tried to re enable the feature and have not been able to get it back since. If someone can try these steps and see how it works, maybe we can figure it out.
Kept messing with settings and it started working again. Rebooted and it went away.

For the phone recorder, where does it record to? where can we find the recording for playback and deletion?
Seh6183,
Where is the setting that you enabled the permissions for smart caller id. I cant seem to find it in settings, applications, system apps, smarcallerid?
Thanks in advanced

Use the same app from the OP and search for "smart". It will populate smart caller ID. Create a shortcut. Click the shortcut and it will give you permissions for smart caller id. Then try it.
Good find. I added a toggle for data that's missing on at&t

[A2017]ZTE Nougat ROM Preview

Well, now isn't this interesting. Seems ZTE has published some early screenshots from the 7.0 ROM.
http://www.myzte.cn/thread-316781-1-1.html
I find the built in root/unroot interesting.
Now this is what I'm talking about. Everything listed here makes me very happy to see it come to fruition. I didn't see anything about the notification bell everyone dislikes, bit we'll wait and find out.

What do they mean by saying root ? It would be preroot ?

Don't see any screenshots, did they pull them already?
This indeed would be nice, but it could also be another dangling of the carrot on a string. We have heard things from them before.
Check on the laptop and u can see the screenshots and they do show one of them whit that option
Root device
Unroot device ?
That would save so much time to us ? at least to me I'm not to Bright when it comes to mess whit the method they have to root right now I try one time and did work so I just left that alone ??

To anyone not seeing screenshots make sure you select request desktop site option. Looks promising so far.
I'm not a fan of the built-in rooting function unless it's a completely open source ROM. Like, I'd rather they just support CyanogenMod officially. With all of the implications of root I don't understand why. If anything, I'd rather have some more security.
My guess would be that the root / unroot would just be for in house testing of the ROM. It would be odd to deliver that in the final version, but you never know.
How hard would it be or what needs to happen so ZTE or someone that works there would provide a program like Odin for Samsung where u can restore the device to factory settings like old times whit the captivate ... That would save lots of time for the company and for us not having to send the phone to them to reflash it ? it may be to old fashion but I don't see why not !

I'm just as excited for this as everyone else, but this doesn't seem like the right section for this until we have a flashable 7.0 rom.

Android already has a way of flashing full roms. You don't need Oden or any other proprietary tools to do that. What we need is for ZTE to release a full factory image for the US model. They already have some out for the other versions.
The way it looks they probably won't release them ?

Me either. But Chinese users seems to love their built in root features -- it's all over the forums as a request. And I've seen it with other Chinese devices as well. It would seem odd for an official ROM to have it built in, especially with the security focus Google has been taking the last few years.
3rd party ROMs can do what they like (with all the security features finding their way into apps now, I'm starting to lean toward it not being included at all, so the ROM can still pass tests and people can flash whatever type of SU they want then).
Most importantly I want to know why he was searching for "spang bang" on his work computer....

Someone posted a lot more pictures from the Nougat work -- oddly flashed via TWRP.

Lockscreen notifications! Never been so excited to see those. Maybe it's a cm14 build?
