[Q][I9300][4.4.2] What Audio Mod/Engine do you use on Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
What audio mods/engines are you guys using on your kitkat custom rom.
I have tried Viper4Android FX 2.3.3.0 but honestly did not notice any difference
[before the ppl who created this mod and ppl who use it religiously enjoy it come and kill me, sorry but i mean no disrespect]
So what more options do i have.
I am looking for mods that will
1. Not drain a lot of battery.
2. Offer good, clear, crisp audio quality.
3. be compatible with 4.4.2 KitKat Roms.
Currently on RRemix 5.1.1 + Boeffla Kernel OMNI 2.2
I have tried various customization's on my phone the last piece of my customization puzzle is good audio and so far i haven't found any good solutions.
Any help will be appreciated.

i got exactly the same rom and the same kernel and was wondering the same thing... i also tried viperforandroid and when you put it into expert mode you can change your audio to your liking (different modes of surround, gain, ...) it does make a big difference. but speaker quality still isn't what i would like it to be.

There are apps for that
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.systemappmover
You dont have to move it but when the app isnt a sytem apps it tends to stop the effects for a few seconds after closing the app and i find that a bit annoying

only way is to restore a backup (because you DID a backup prior to install beats, didn't you?)
As I said, at that time I m a noob. so no backup. I think i have to reinstall rom. is there any need of dsp manager? music is going on fine. I just want to remove that error of dsp crash.
Sent from Atrix 4G.
Nah, there is no need of dsp (althroug, this is subjetive).. to get rid of that message try disabling dsp effects on android settings, so it won't try to load on boot..
in fact, on my atrix, whenever i enable dsp effects i get the effects plus a very annoying background noise... so i didn't miss it when i installed beats...
The dsp manager is crash because you use the equalizer
You have uninstall the app and afted reinstall the app
P.S. Dont use the equalizer
Sorry bad english

Beats and DSP manager are mutually exclusive, it's a widely known fact. Just like the fact you don't actually need either. Just like the fact you should ALWAYS make backups no matter what, regardless of your level of expertise. Every tutorial and procedure says that but unfortunately hardly anyone listens.
If you only want to get rid of the crash errors, just delete /system/app/DSPManager.apk (or similar, depending on your system) with a root-level file manager.
thanks ravilov & andresrivas, now i m not getting any errors. From know on I will backup my rom before any nasty experiment!! Is there any way to enhance the quality of music in Atrix 4G??
Sent from Atrix 4G.
you're welcome
enhance even more? humm.. you could try a different player, but of all that i've tested, connected music player had the best quality (yes, the stock motorola player).
Also, the quality of the rip makes almost the 90% of the diff... i can pass you a couple of very high quality mp3 so you can see what im talking about

Hi. Am new to this forum. Am too facing the same problem as sumit77seo and haven't taken any rom backup. As suggested by ravilov, I checked my /system/app and there is no dspmanager.apk. when I try to run apps like folder player or equalizer, it crashes. Pls advice me how to resolve this.

Ok, no offence here, but if you ask to have a beautiful sound even after dsp manager or beats mod is because you actually LOVE to hear music with your phone!
As far as i know, we are listening mp3 at 292kb/s and from that point (I'm a sound mixer/masterer for my music band and quality past that point will mostly NOT be noticeable for any low quality headphones ! I got shurf proffessionnal studio wich cost me 350$ and a normal pair of Sony headphone that cost me 45 and there is no major difference after testing with Sony's but but i admit that there is a huge differences with my proffessional headphones with the sampling play rate!
I supposed if he tried with dsp and with beats and not yet satisfied ,i guess he didn't really want stock player and high quality mp3, unless he is having a good pit of headphones and a good amount of SD card space to contain high quality mp3 past over 320kb/s with an bipollarising ......
Ad i understand, you need power and softness on your phone sound as far as i understand ...
So this way going to be your player apk
Let me say that if you have a couple of buks to use in a player on the store, you are going to enjoy it !
I use to play music a lot with ny mono bluetooth and AFAIK mono BT are made to talk ! Not to listen music .... but i did use poweramp, with sound noddulling and it is amazing after a couple of tweaks within the player equaliser and the stereo enhencer and : WOW !
I can say that there are aany out there but for me after 20 bucks of trying different knowned paid music apk, power amp is really the best !
Soo, my suggestion : as andresrivas said, make sure that your mp3 quality are at a good level
And have a powerfull music player on your phone! The mod is kinda helping but .... not really as powerfull as tweaks with player equalizer !
A small fact : once, I've connected my atrix soundcard trough the headphone Jack into the aux in on a DJ table in a nightclub (le shack) and using poweramp, my everyday equalizer, he didn't touch anything on his table equalizer, and the sound was great! Lot of bass, crystal clear sound .... He seriously told me that my output was better than his iPhone! So, i guess we got to be proud of our atrix

best way is flashing a backup or another rom.. in your case, you must flash the stock rom..
you could also try to delete data for folder player and not using its internal eq or dsp...

you got me right, I need soft and powerful sound.
So u are telling me to use Poweramp but with some tweaks. Can u explain the tweaks. to me
Currently I am using a player called noozy(not in the market) https://www.box.com/s/pkvfwflqlvd553p1mgtl
can you compare noozy with poweramp so I can decide to buy poweramp. I m very thankful to you.
Atrix 4G, CM7 based TopSmarts 1.3 rom, Faux123 1ghz kernel
Thanks for the clarifications. I tried what u suggested but still then the market apps folder player and equalizer crash. I didn't take backup of rom and have learnt my 1st lesson . Do up know what files need to be restored after uninstalling beats ? Can those stock rom files be downloaded?

Is your device rooted?? If yes then why stock rom, there are plenty excellent roms out there.

If I m helpful dont hesitate to thank me.
i have no idea whixh files instalss/modify, but i intend to look at it on my spare time... as states on the app, eq apps dont work..
ive checked the logcat for the fc of folder player and it tries to activate a internal effects manager... thats why it crash...

Viper4Android works fine on Gingerbread, as long as you use the v2207. Any version above that only works on JB.
If you want, I´ll upload you that version tomorrow...
Please give me the instructions too! I really dont know why is there two apks (FX & XHIFI) !!

(NOTE: XHIFI never made the sound on my phone better, so this is originally for the FX version, even though it works also with XHIFI. Anyway, the FX offers the most options and best sound effects )
1. Extract the apk onto your sdcard
2. copy it to /system/app
3. Reboot
4. Open Viper4Android FX
5. Grant SU permission
6. Install drivers
7. Reboot
After that, you can customize the settings to what sounds best!
Oh, and don´t use the convolver, it either makes your phone laggy or initialises "akward restarts" .
Can you upload ViPER4Android Audio Effects v2207 ? I really cant find it!
@ killroy: found it finally! thanks any way !
Sound iss good btw!

Have you ever tried Mixzing music player 2.7.1? The EQ of mixzing is good, but don't know if better than Viper4Android in Quality.
Does this Viper4Android make music play with more quality? By quality i mean the sound is sweeter and the vocals are higher 'because normally without EQ vocals can hardly be heard, specially on rock songs'.
I tried many apps but none has made vocals become Clear and High to be heard good.
is Viper4Android worth the try for this?. If yes, can you show me your settings to achieve such good sound 'you can take a screenshot and put it here'?
Thanks btw

This is my personal audio profile(I´m using mid- to high-end earphones)
It works best with the v4a versions above 22.08, which only work on ROMs using the nAa-06-kernel.
What to do:
1. Create a Folder on your sdcard named "ViPER4Android"
2. Open that folder & create a folder named "Profile"
3. Download & unzip the file from this post
4. Copy the File Headphones.prf into "sdcard/VIPER4Android/Profile"
5. Install V4A as described above
6. Open V4A
7. Open Settings-Load effect profile
8. select "Headphones"
Done!

I did it all, well the effect was a little bit aggressive for my earphones xD but i changed it a little bit so there is no problem xD.
The sound looks like it become a bit more 'rich', but never more 'clear', so i guess there really is no way to make the vocals sound clear and high xD. Anyway i'll keep your effect 'modified' and test it more days, at least the sound being more 'rich' is also an improvement i think xD.
Thanks bro

i don't see any option with the name 'clear audio', so i supposed that was on XHIFI version, i installed it but there's no option with that name either :S xD. What is the real name of the option you're talking about? xD.
After testing today the yesterdays effect of viper4android, i noticed that audio actually got a bit worse and not rich :S , and if i use your headphone effect 'so much bass' then the vocals are even lower than normal :S . So maybe that Clear Audio thing you mentioned can solve this problem i think xD.
Ps: i'm using 2207 fx version. when i installed xhifi 2100 version the option Audio Reconstruction is very very laggy in the sound when Enabled 'looks like the sound is having hiccups all the time xD', i don't know what the f... is happening with this ViperFx thingy xD, having good sound quality is a total Headshot xD.

As said before, the audio profile I posted works best on versions above 2208. When not used on versions above that, the options 'viper bass' aand 'viper clarity' aren't available, which basically defeats the reason to use that profile.

I knew the name was wrong xD. Yes i saw that but you also said that versions above only work on naa-06 kernel and if i'm not wrong there still isn't any rom completly Stable on that kernel , so i guess that viper4android will have to wait because a stable rom is more important than increasing audio quality :S . I tried version above 2207 and the result really was strange bootloops and i had to Restore a Backup of the Rom on CWM :S . But thanks anyway bro .
Ps. Well, i started another thread in this Help section xD, it's about the Text Selection, if you know how to solve my question about this let me know in the thread bro.
Cheers
Viper4android makes the sound so much better when listening to music on my stereo system, through my phone. However, it seems to only work about 1/3 of the time. Sometimes it will be working, then I'll select a new album to listen to, and it no longer works... And vice versa. Sometimes it just will not work at all, even after a reboot. It's just completely random. I'm running it on a VZW Galaxy S4 with the Hyperdrive Rom installed. I would love to figure out how to get it to work 100% of the time.

Sound boost hack

Sound boost for all US Note 3 variants. You must have a snapdragon cpu. Will not work on octacores. This is the highest volume boost that is still considered safe. You should not experience any clipping or washed out sound.
Installation:
×Flash via gordon flasher here is the app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250555
-OR-
×Unzip this package and copy the file into your system/etc/snd_soc_msm folder which overwrites the stock file. Reboot after file copy.

Can you tell any significant difference in the max volume when using sound "mods" like this?
What kind of difference can you see in the following scenarios:
1.) Stock Sound --> THIS Mod instead?
How about those of you that have been running Viper?
2.) Stock Sound --> Viper Mod ??
3.) Viper Mod --> THIS Mod instead ?

I'm using viper from the playstore and it works great for my music. I work in a factory and plug my 3.5mm head jack into a kicker stereo. The phone speaker it's self seems loud enough for me. No to knock this sound mod at all but I favor the eq in viper. Just my opinion. The only downside of viper is I have to greenify it when I'm done using it.

From what I've noticed about Viper is that it doesn't work with every music app.
It doesn't work with the Samsung music player.
It will work with the Google Play Music app with wav (flac encoded) files, but not MP3s.
It will work with Power Amp will all files, but the Power Amp trial app I downloaded can't see my wav/flac files for playback.

I have only been using it for a few days but my understanding is that replaces the stock DSP manager once you install the driver and select it in Settings > Music Effects, so the sound effect *should* be global and affect all music sources. I do not use the Samsung music app, and I do not store MP3s locally. I had some, but many of them must be inferior rips because they sounded flat or distorted no matter what EQ settings I used. I finally decided to try Google All Access, and I am glad I did. Using the highest quality stream and ViPER4Android, it sounds 100x better than my ipod.

The easiest way to know if Viper is working, is that when you are playing music, to go into the Viper app and uncheck the enable box at the top. If you hear the music volume/sound change, then you know it was working, and you can re-check the box.
I know that it doesn't work at all with the Samsung Music app.
On the Google Play Music, it does work with WAV( (FLAC encoded) files, but not MP3s. I don't have the "Google All Access" subscription, so I can't verify if Viper works with it.
Since my MP3s weren't sounding too good while using Viper, I got all my CDs and did them as WAV (FLAC), and copied it over the microSD card (but took about 21GB of space). But it does sound much better than the MP3 rips I did of these CDs many years ago.

I tried that while streaming Google Music, and it definitely makes a difference. I have no MP3s or FLACs to test with the Samsung Music app, so I have no idea if V4A effects will translate through that app.
Since using V4A and Google Music Service, I have heard new musical details (instruments as well as front/rear speaker isolation) on songs that I thought I knew very well. This is most likely due to the poor quality of my MP3s, rather than V4A or the quality of Google Music, but it was a nice surprise regardless. If you have not tried Google Music Service then I highly recommend it, especially if you are surrounded with solid 4G or WiFi. The first month is free. It's not on the same level as FLAC, but it will probably be a step up from MP3.

I downloaded the FX 2.3.1.1 version from the xda thread instead of the unofficial market link because (1) the market link is in Chinese, and (2) I wanted to make sure I got the latest release. Install it like any other apk, go to Settings > Sound > Music effects and select ViPER4Android. You will be prompted to install a special driver, so do that. Reboot, then open "ViPER4Android" in the app drawer, and tweak to your liking. Then play some tunes and adjust EQ and other options as needed. The effects are much more pronounced via the audio jack rather than the speakerphone.

I'm using 2.3.0.1 and it "automatically" installed the driver, as the one from the Play Store had a list of drivers, and I wasn't sure which one to use.
Does the 2.3.1.1 also automatically install the driver?
Edit: Updated to 2.3.1.1 without problem.

What sound equalizer app do you use ?

As is commonly known, at lower volumes the sound on the G pad is pretty dark and murky.
This can be improved easily by using an equalizer app and turning down the bass/lower frequencies, and turning up the higher frequencies.
I've tried a few different apps, some work, some don't.
Currently I'm using the "Music equalizer" app, which is allright but turns itself off after 30 minutes, so I'm looking for something better.
What apps have you found that work well with MX player?
(I know sound improves in other ROM's but I want to stay rooted stock, so custom ROM's are not an option right now)
Same here.
Today I installed DSP manager (from cyanogenmod).
Nice and exactly what I want, except that it doesn't work at all.

I use PowerAmp music player. It has a great DSP but I don't know if it works system-wide and I haven't really tried to find out because I haven't really though about it.
Upgrade to CM11, it will change your tab, especially concerning the sound..
Poweramp seems to be a music player rater than a generic equalizer.
About CM, have I mentioned in my start post that I want to stay stock, or did I forget to say that?

Greetings..
I know you want to stay stock but...
I was just reading this thread and I have CM-11 installed and I thought.. why not turn on Netflix and the DSP (which I was not using) and see if the DSP Mgr. does make a difference..
It Does.. A Big Difference if you adjust the EQ manually.. So at least you know you have an option should your situation become unbearable.
I know there is that option so I have considered that. Not having Qremote is not an option at this moment, so I'm not going there.
As for equalizers, I've found another one that works, but it also turns off after 30 minutes.
I have the impression that this is not so much a funcionalty, but a limitation within android.
Does anyone know if all equalizer apps will turn off after 30 minutes?
Does any app exist that I can use that doesn't turn itself off?

So what ROM are you on, and what app are you listening to?
I really want DSP manager but it just dosn't seem to do anything.
I'm trying to have it working with stock LG rom, rooted and MX player.

If you are rooted you could try AlsaMixer. It's kinda a carry over from Linux. Bear in mind that it had a major overhaul some time ago. It has so many settings for each connectin you won't believe it. Unfortunately I have no idea how to use it after the overhaul as everything is classified pretty cryptic, but I believe I saw something about 5 different EQ bands. AlsaMixer is system wide btw. The EQ is just one of many variables you can set. However finding a tutorial is imminent, if you ask me. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip.
I had a look at it, but that's probably going to take me days to figure out since I know nothing about programming..
I'm still wondering about DSP manager on stock in combination with MX player, does anyone have that working?

I'm not certain of what I'm saying right now. But since MX Player is capable of using both software and hardware for both sound and video I suspect it may use it's own settings.. I don't know. I'm basing it on ZPlayer in the Market which I used for a long time, that one had it's own EQ and such and the dev said that the users shouldn't be using any 3rd party EQ's because it wouldn't have any effect.. May be some of the same stuff going on with MX Player since it offers all these different decoders.. Sorry, I'm not going back to stock to test this. Anything CM/AOSP related, I'll gladly check out for you. :/
I'm just wondering; DSP manager does not seem to have any effect on the sound of any apps here.
As for MX player (which is the only app I really care about for an equalizer to work with),
some equalizer apps work with it and some don't.
The few that I found that work all quit after 30 minutes, probably that's a limitation in android?
I'm starting to think harder about Mahdi rom, it sure looks nice but I just can't part yet from Qremote.

Rooted users can use viper. It is the best system wide system modulator out there. It can be found almost anywhere on these forums. If you need a link, pm me and i'll send you one.
Charlie
I never understood the "pm me and I'll send you the link" attitude.
Anyway .. I agree with Charlie: it is a very good sound enhancer utility.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion.
Viper4androidFX works,
it works with MX player and it keeps working after 30 minutes.
I believed for a moment that this was the solution for optimizing the sound on the G pad,
however viper seems to have an unwanted effect on videoprocessing;
while streaming HD content over MX player there is a slight stutter in the video that immediately disappears when I turn viper off.
That makes useless for me really.
I am thinking about saying goodbye to the Qremote app and flashing Mahdi.

Best BassBoosters/EQ's compatible w LOCAL FILES on Spotify and Each Other (NON-Root)

Hello there again, guys!
What are some of the best bassboosters and equalizers you've used that works with Spotify LOCAL FILES, and are also compatible to run together with others BB/EQs? I'm using NoozXoide, and it's pretty good, but I also wanted to have some more bass (that's what happens once you go V4A), and specially, have some more control over equalization... I've tried quite a few apps, but almost none of them work with LOCAL FILES from SPOTIFY.

Then you might as well stop searching. Viper is pretty much the best and offers a full package. Everything else you can find on the Google Play Store is just a basic equalizer - at most - and won't do much in my opinion, except for adding another layer of equalization to the sound, which could possible distort or block out some sounds.
So you should really consider rooting your device.
If you don't know any BassBoosters/EQ's compatible w LOCAL FILES on Spotify and Each Other (NON-Root), you should not bother replying. I asked for some pretty clear recommendations. I know rooting open the path to a lot of improvements, but I just can't, or don't want to do it now.
Could anyone help me?
Anyone???
Anyone at all??? Please? ANY good bassbooster u'd recommend?
