Test Radios on 4 Go Row - Lenovo P780

Hi
I tested different modems on my P780 4GB Row in AOSP 4.2.2.
I made a table with the results I got with Mobileuncle Tools.

Thank you for taking the time to make that list.
According to your list there is no way to get 3G in 900 Mhz without loosing the 1900,850,800 (Jia-Yu V8).
I don't know if those frequencies (1900,850,800) are necessary, but in the french country side I'm missing a lot of 3G without the 900Mhz.
So maybe opting for a radio driver with only 2000Mhz and 900 Mhz might be a viable solution ?
I'm also trying to figure out if it is hardware related or just the driver for the modem but that's another story :silly:

we have no need of 1900 and 850 in France. I travel to the U.S. and I have to change modem, I use the modem Yu Jia-V8. In the countryside in France without 900Mhz is really problematic.
I use the V23-P780 modem at the moment, with this modem I have not yet encountered the problem of connection in France.

Hi all! I am glad that my post is a good help for you all. Please post here what modem is good for your country !

Thank you stympy. Your post with the link helped me for the tests
For me in France the best is V23_modem_P780

Update : Ignore this message, see my next post concerning modem speeds
S124 ROW Stock ROM modem :
- Australia (Telstra, Optus): H+ but 3G signal from 1 to 4 bars and vice versa all the time.
- Indonesia (Telkomsel): H+ but 3G mostly and again unstable signal
- SIM2 full signal all the time
V52 Modem_S920 :
- Australia (Telstra, Optus): H+ bit more stable 3G signal but not as good as other phones (S3 of girlfriend)
- Indonesia (Telkomsel): H+ but 3G bit more stable but still jumpy
- Singapore (Singtel): H+ all the time with strong signal
- SIM2 full signal all the time
For both modems I see a similar behavior, when the phone requests data, signal goes to very low, then after 2 seconds goes up again and starts data transfer at fair to good speed. After some seconds (during transfer), signal goes down and data transfer stalls, but directly after another second it's good again and stays up for a bit longer. The longer the data transfer, either the signal becomes stable or drops alltogether.
It seems to be all or nothing
If I'm just watching the phone idling, I also notice the same jumps in signal strength all the time. If I force 2G only, it's stable.
I also noticed that if I would put my home SIM (Belgian) in SIM1 slot, using the exact same operators, the signal is a lot more stable than with local sims??

fredmoy This is greate thanks. I can't seem to find a proper modem. On my previous P780 I used V51+S820.zip and it worked great. Now my reception drops, even disconnects the operator about 50/50 times both sims.
I am worried if I don't have a faulty modem hw piece.

Speed tests with radios
I've done some speed tests with the different modems.
All modems (except 1), are from stympy's modem zip (look elsewhere in this forum).
All tests performed on the Telstra Australia network, in Melbourne, using the Ookla Speedtest tool.
SIM1 : Telstra SIM card
SIM2 : foreign SIM in roaming mode
Only SIM1 speeds were tested.
P780 Chinese model 4Gb, production date 15/03/14
Stock P780_ROW_S124_140403 ROM version flashed.
Ran speed test 3 times, took average of 3 runs
Modems flashed in recovery, with Wipe of Dalvik Cache + Cache.
In case of a none working SIM2, restarted phone to double check.
All names are name of zip in the package without the .zip extension.
Remarks :
- Either fast speed but SIM2 not working
- Either slow speed (seemed to be capped at 30kB/s) and SIM2 always working
- For fast speeds, the SIM1 always directly became active as 3G/H+
- For slow speeds, the SIM1 connected as G first, then switched to 3G mode after 20 seconds
- V51,V52 (all zips with this version number in it) suffered from capped speed
- also noticed that the order of flashing the modems seemed to create some issues. I noticed that modem.S920.for.P780 showed the capped behavior too after flashing it after V18 Modem_S920_CN_V18. However, trying other combinations again, I could not reproduce the issue. And only this particular modem showed the issue.
- V17_modem.S920.for.P780.zip and modem.S920.for.P780.zip are identical.
Result :
Fastest (working SIM2 + good speed SIM1) combinations were:
- modem.S920.for.P780, mddb BPLGUInfoCustomAppSrcP_MT6589_S00_P780_V15 : got results between 800 and 1600 kB/s DL, but running the test about 5 times, it is usually more around 800-900 kB/s
- V18 Modem_S920_CN_V18, mddb BPLGUInfoCustomAppSrcP_MT6589_S00_S920_V18 : got results up to 1700 kB/s DL, but running the test about 5 times, it is usually around 1200 kB/s
In my previous post on this thread I was also concerned about the unstable signal. Both modems mentioned above as the fastest working, also showed a more stable signal strength.
See the results in the attached PDF.
Hope this is useful

Correct.
For all other roms mentioned in the list of fredmoy, see the Russian Lenovo forum (run Google translate if needed) : http://lenovo-forums.ru/topic/1702-прошивка-радиомодуля-p780/page-3
and look for the links Подборка прошивок модемов 1, подборка 2.
Been testing further, and the general tendency is that I all roms that give me the 3G 900Mhz, disable my second SIM.
I have to enter my pin for it, but it never activates.

Ok thanks. I've known that site, I tried all possible modems so it seems and my phone still can't hold the signal for a very long time.
I'm flashing stock rom back and asking for a replacement.

Same problem
I'm living in the city so it's hard to test the signal quality. But I did notice that going into a building often puts me on G or signal lost.
One more tip, they say that you have to make sure your network mode
MobileUncle => Engineering Mode (MTK) => Network Selecting => Set to GSM/WCDMA (auto) must be selected instead of WCDMA preferred).
Most people on the Russian forums end up with modem.S920.for.P780 (which is V15 I think)

Isn't it the same settings as classic android system settings in preffered networks? Must be done in MobileUncle?
Edit: It did not help sending the phone back to the store :/

No, you can also do it in the settings, but nowadays I just do it all from MobileUncle because it's easier...

Modem bad reception in Canada Galaxy s2

Hey all, i thought i would start a thread about an issue that many canadians seem to have with the GS2, it seems to have been beat to death but there is no actual solution.
Im currently using the GS2 with Telus, its a wcdma/3G/H/H+ carrier using the frequency 1900 mostly and 850 at times on the cdma network, i used so far KG3-KG6 i placed them in that order because KG6 is the latest i tried and has proven to give me better coverage but its still really bad..
I can connect to data but only outdoors or only when the reception is full bars, if i start to lose any bars there goes my data connection and i can no longuer use any services data/sms/mms/calls i literaly cant do anything..
This is a big issue as i know for a fact that you dont need a data connection to send sms. but it seems the galaxy s2 under the current modem firmware im using KG6 wont allow me to unless im on full data coverage...
My question is this, what is the best modem firmware to use according to the frequencies that i meantioned earlier 1900/850 WCDMA i dont mind using another country's modem as long as they are oriented towards the same frequencies that i need
My phone came from Korea and i know they use 2100/900 could that be the issue? Is my hardware oriented towards that? At this point anything could help and please feel free to post thanks

Hmm, I'm a SGS2 owner on TELUS as well and haven't had any problems so far, besides the GPS Lock Time which most people seem to complain about. It takes about 1 minute for the GPS to lock for me, but my data is fine. No dropped calls or sms problems here. My download speed as I checked last was at 8.31 Mbps down and about 2 Mbps up.
But again, having horrible GPS issues. Wish I could figure that one out
Sobai can u post your results to *#1234#
so i can compare my settings to yours.
I'm using KG6 on Rogers network and don't have fantastic reception either. For most situations it holds calls -- but buildings with lots of concrete I lose the signal completely. It's as if I'm not truly on the 850 band ... my G1 had the same problem until I flashed a Bell-specific modem, that solved the problem. I guess we'll have to wait until Bell launches the G2 here, we'll be able to swipe the modem again.
i have an imported gs2 that i am using on rogers and it doesnt drop calls, but i have had times in the past when it would show 3g but not download any data. once i turned airplane mode on and off data would work fine again. the best radio for me has been the kf2 modem in terms of not having the data stalling issue. i find that even if i show no bars of strength i can still download data with no issue.
if you are on telus i would make sure so set the wireless settings to 3g only so the phone doesnt try to look for a 2g signal.
KG2 on a Bell SGS2 on Rogers/Fido network in Vancouver.
GPS locks in seconds. no dropped calls. H+ all the time, never once saw a 3G symbol. no data dropouts.
over 7Mbps down on this network with the SGS2, when i had 1/3rd the speeds an HTC Desire. great reception in my office downtown, my apartment, everywhere i've been so far.
KG2 (not the stock canadian though), in Montreal on the Virgin/Bell network. So far no complaints on the data. Since I started messing w/ the firmware however, the connection is on 3G when idle and only switches to H+ when actually in use. From what i've been reading many people have been noticing this when flashing over the stock Canadian firmware.
On the other hand however, the GPS has been having a hard time establishing a lock (whereas it used to be quite speedy and precise before I flashed). Won`t be able to test whether this is a firmware problem untill the stock Canadian is released by Samsung.

Wow guys I appreciate the feedback I thought I was the only one with this issue! I will definitely give kf2 a try right now and I'll also download the 3G only data app and give it a try and I'll get back to u guys with some feedback. Thanks again
Btw I'm using, touch x 3.2 rom that has kg5 on and I did notice a little improvement in the reception but the data connectivity is still very spotty so I'll give kf2 a try but so far kg5 modem is definitely the best one I seen so far to use on telus. Btw anyone trying to use the galaxy s2 on fido, I was never able to get 3G at all to work I was stuck on edge.

Do you know how I would be able to set it up so that it stays locked on 3G? I tried the *#301279# trick and disabling hsdpa and hsupa with revision 99 but to no avail. Even if it shows full bars and 3G I still get no data connection and also I can't send or receive texts unless there is a data connection for some reason, have you guys had this issue??

i have never needed to mess around with that menu. you should be able to go to
settings
wireless network
mobile networks
network mode
select wcdma only
that will lock it to 3 only. if you keep having issues you might get a new sim card from telus as that might be causing you some issues
Do you have your apn configured properly for your provider? If it isnt your data definitely work. Other then that I havent had these issues in edmonton on kg6 or maybe I just dont know what to expect reception wise. I do notice it hops from 3G to hspa to hspa+ a lot so i switched to only 3g. If anyone finds anything that improves that or reception though I would be interested

This information would be great because I am also experiencing spotty data connectivity (browser loads data, stalls, resumes centuries later) which results in severe crappy data speeds of 0.8mbps down and 0.07mbps up (done on in-browser speakeasy test and speedtest.net app.

AT&T JB on T-Mobile network

Strating a new topic to figure out which radio works better on T-Mobile for AT&T JB update.
Before JB update, like several other people on this forum, I have been using i717 on T-Mobile network . 4G has been working fine with GT-N7005-IMM76D-DXLJ2 Rom and UVLG3modemfori717_gt-n7005amss radio.
1. UVLG3 modem with GT7005 amss gives no signal.
2. UVLG3 modem with JB amss gives no signal.
3. Stock radio and amss in JB update only connects to Edge. (unless you are in area where T-Mobile has 3g on 1900?)
4. Blaze ICS modem connects to 4g but signal bars are not shown in status bar.
For the best modem so far, check the below post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41052527
If anybody else tried any other combinations, please post your experience in this thread.
Thanks.
same here plus i try it with Telus modems too not signal (signal comes and gone)
I made my own combo for WIND in Canada (confirmed to work on T-Mobile with much higher speeds). It's really slow (about 1 Mbps down and 50 kbps up) but at least it works (good voice/signal strength and somewhat usable data)
It's the SGH-T989D (Telus Galaxy S II X) latest modem (TLMC4) and AMSS from the old Blaze modem posted around this forum. Just flash it with CWM.
http://speedy.sh/uyHBp/SGH-T989D-TLMC4-amss-from-blaze.zip
Steps:
1. Flash in CWM
2. On reboot, do a network scan
3. Open dialer, dial *#2263# and select WCDMA Prefs -> WCDMA 1700
4. Do network scan again, WIND (or whatever your AWS provider is) should appear. Select it and it should register.
5. You can multi task back to the service mode and go back and select "[1] Automatic" to use all bands again.
No responsibility if it bricks your phone, it works on my SGH-i717R without issues
OT: I also tried SGH-T989D_TLMC4_radio.zip and it works on Bell/Telus/Rogers without any mods. However, trying any T989 combos never really worked (some did, but data kept dropping).

This is an important thread for this forum. I'm in the same situation, utilizing the AT&T rom on an AT&T device, and trying to use it on T-Mobile.
My experience has been strange. I am using the stock firmware radio with the AT&T JB update, and I seem to connect to 4G randomly on T-Mobile, switching between UMTS:3 and HSPAP15. I am usually on Edge more often than "4G". I don't have LTE in my area, and "3G" on 1900 doesn't work on my Wife's Iphone.
I tried the UVLG3 Modem for i717, and got no signal at all.
I haven't tried the Blaze modem. What I want to know, is what is the experience with Blaze when you look at system status? UMTS:3? HSPAP?
I am on stock modem in JB rom right now, shows UMTS3 in status.
Nothing strange about that, it is in UMTS when data is idle, anything else is when data is active.
You only get 3G on T-Mobile if its a "re-farmed" 1900 MHz region, where they moved 3G from AWS to 1900 MHz. If you go outside your zone you will only have 2G.

What is HSPAP:15 considered? HSPA 15Mbps? Is that at 1700MHz or 1900Mhz?

You would have to go to field test mode to find out, Android does not have such details. Dial *#0011# and find at the very top "RRC: .. BandX," where X is a number. Is it 4 (AWS) or 2 (1900Mhz)?
There may be an item (radio dependant) called DC_HSPA to indicate whether its dual cell HSPA(+). Post a screenshot and I can check it for you.

Hmm, can you try this. I've tested it a bit on WIND and data/voice works...the data is slighly more stable/faster (still around 1.5 Mbps/50 Kbps for me)
http://speedy.sh/uyHBp/SGH-T989D-TLMC4-amss-from-blaze.zip
IT works for me on WIND, so it should work on T-Mobile. Same steps as in my previous post above to get it to see AWS carriers. If your T-Mobile service is 1900 MHz, it may just work without any of those steps.
Btw, for some reason it only sees WIND (the modem is non WIND specific) and no other AWS carriers (i.e Mobilicity) when set to WCDMA 1700. No idea why.

Tried it, signal strength went from 2 bars with stock modem to 4 bars, status shows UMTS3 when idle and switches to HSPAP:15 briefly.
Speed test
outside the house 7000kbps/1000kbps
Inside the house 1650kbps/66kbps
*#0011# shows rrc band 4, previously it was band 2.
*#2263# doesn't shows any item with * infront, previously automatic had * infront of it.
Tried setting wcdma to 1700 and saw the same performance, rrc band4 and switching between umts3 and hspap:15.
Havn't tested call quality but this has been the best modem so far.
Thanks for sharing.

No idea why.

not sure why but with this ROM (jelly bean) i can lock DC-HSPA8+ and damn it go fast!!!!
this pics are with your modem i will test later today when i go to the mall now works perfect!
Thanks for the help

You would have to go to field test mode to find out, Android does not have such details. Dial *#0011# and find at the very top "RRC: .. BandX," where X is a number. Is it 4 (AWS) or 2 (1900Mhz)?
There may be an item (radio dependant) called DC_HSPA to indicate whether its dual cell HSPA(+). Post a screenshot and I can check it for you.

I'm now using the Blaze radios posted by Zivan in the link above. I'm getting Band 4 CPCH and FCPH and DCH. Averaging around 3-6Mbps down and 300Kbps up.

To be honest, I'm getting better T-Mobile 4g reception with that modified Blaze radio on JB than I did on ICS with UVLG3. Not going to complain!
Anybody managed to get LTE with a JB rom yet?
Question ?.........I picked wcdma 1700 and I'm getting crazy good speeds ....9down 2up..sometimes better What is safe cpu temps? Cause I think it may be heating up

Wow, good to hear folks...I'm getting rather terrible speeds on WIND. But the phone works, I did a bunch of calling/texting/data usage and its been stable for over a day.
Well I had to reflash for some reason it was picking up excellent speeds then poof gone .. tried changing back to 1900... nothing .. so I reflashed and just picked automatic

[Q] Signal issues

I've recently moved to Hampshire, UK and got myself a Vodafone simcard. This problem probably existed already prior moving to UK but wasn't as noticeable as phone networks were a lot better in Finland and Czech Republic where I lived before. I often notice my signal being non existent or very low when other people with Vodafone but different phones have ok to good signal. I often also notice that according to the phone it has a HSDPA connection but no data is being transmitted, but immediately if it jumps to HSDPA+, data is being transmitted flawlessly again. I'm running the latest stable CM 10 on my phone. Additionally there seems to be similar issues with WIFI, other phones show good signal but mine doesn't.
Any ideas what could be the cause? Is the reception in S3 just worse than in my old Nokia E71 or Iphone5? What really puzzles me is the not working data connection with HSDPA, sometimes moving few meters might make it jump to HSDPA+ and data again transmits normally.
First go back to full stock rom, latest uk generic firmware and modem to test.
It's more likely to be due to your rom than hardware.
I've tried few different stock roms but the same problem seems to be present, still shows that I'm connected with HSDPA but no data is being transmitted. Any other ideas?
Check APN settings correct modem and CSC .
Would any of these affect the wifi aswell?

Modem, CSC and APN were all correct. My problems are with both wifi and phone network, could the problem be physical? Doesn't kernel come with the firmware, or should I try with another kernel?
You can flash a kernel or modem separately or as part of a whole firmware.
If you've tried going back to stock then hardware is the most probable cause.

Problem with mobile networks setting

Hello,
I have a problem with my android tablett, with sim card slot.
In the mobile network settin, we can find this :
GSM/WCDMA (auto connect) - automatically switches between 2G/3G modes. When signal strength is low, 3G is favored more
GSM only - 2G only mode. When 2G signal strength is low, you get no data.
WCDMA only - 3G only mode. When 3G signal strength is low, you get no data.
But in my case, i can't switch to " GSM/WCDMA " or " WCDMA only ", it still changing in gsm only, when i change to " GSM/WCDMA " or " WCDMA only ", the setting goes automaticly in " GSM only ".
Is there a way to solve this problem please ?

If the tablet does not support the frequencies for 3g from the carrier / SIM card you are using, this behavior is normal. This is just the first thing I thought of, but without knowing the tablet model and carrier, there isn't a way to really know.
The tablet comes from China, it's a MTK model, but the website says that the tablet is 3G built-in and that they have tested all the tablet before shippement ....

Just because a tablet has 3G capabilities, does not mean it is compatible with 3G from everywhere. There are different frequencies and bands that each carrier have. Imagine them like radio stations. Your favorite radio might be all new and shiny and able to get all your favorite music on your favorite channel like 101.3 FM, but maybe you also like 700 AM, but though there is nothing wrong with your radio, it might not have settings to connect to AM stations. So you can't listen to 700 AM. Just like if your tablet supports 3G on the 900/2100 frequencies, but you are using a carrier who's signal works on 850 and/or 1900, then you are out of luck.
Ok thanks for your information ! It's surely because of that, because the China seller says me that the 3G work in their office, but not in my country !
My tablet is a phablet, i can call ans send sms (these functions work without problems), but if i buy a 3G usb dongle for the tablet with all the WCDMA band and if i put my SIM card into this dongle, i will be able to have 3g internet connexion AND be able to call and send SMS also ?
Most likely that will work as long as the USB dongle supports the frequencies of the carrier. If you post the model and carrier I might be able to provide some less generic info.

Thanks, your generic answers is already helpful :good:
So the dongle can simulate an other SIM port with all the mobile functions, but the difference is that i could have 3G network !
My tablet is a MTK6577 and my mobile operator is Orange (France)
Hmm According to the info I found on quite a few sites, Orange (France) uses the 900 and 2100 frequencies for 3G, which I think most of the Chinese tablets and dongles I have seen support that... So you should be fine. I thought at first that the tablet has built in 3g, but thinking about it now, the 3g is ONLY supported by the dongle probably, right?

The seller says me before to buy and again now tht the tablet have 3g built-in, but i'm not sure if the seller says the true or not !
I have downloaded " Mobile uncle tools " and then i went to the " band option " and i can select ALL the GSM band but all the UMTS band ( WCDMA / 3G ) are not available
Yea, that's why I was wondering, because many of the lower priced tablets don't have it built-in (though plenty do, which makes it more difficult since many do not have much documentation on specs and brand names). So this means 1 of 3 things:
1) Seller does not understand the difference between built-in and the dongle - possible language barrier?
2) Seller is lying to you, hoping you will say screw it and buy the dongle.
3) There is something wrong with the tablet.
I hope it is #1 for your sake. My guess is #2. Number #3 doesn't seem likely since the Settings aren't working to change either and it's not showing up in the other tool, which is a well known tool that works for most MTK devices.

I'm sure there is no language barrier
I'm thinking that the seller lie to me, i have opened a disput on the website, and i will have to proove what i'm saying ! ( that the tablet is not 3G built-in, i can upload picture and video on the disput webpage of the website )
But the tablet works in 2G mode without problem, so with a 3g dongle it can solve this problem ?
I would think so, but I've never had much reason to look into dongles other than a passing - oh, they can do that...? Because most tablets sold in the States are going to have it built in or just for wifi only. I don't get many people bringing me these kinds of tablets to work on anymore for some reason, so haven't had much chance to play with them lately.
Side question: Do you have an android phone? It might be possible to set it up to tether from it to the tablet as well, depending on the phone, update, and carrier.
Yes i have an other android phone with 3G working on it !
Which phone and what software update does it have? You're using it with Orange as well?
It's an HTC wildfire S and it's android 2.3.2 !

[SOLVED] Lazy to change mode between LTE/UMTS/GSM?

I'm experiencing an odd issue on the SD RedMi Note 4 of my wife (ROM: v8.5.8.0 NCFMIED): where LTE signal is weak and other mobiles switch to GSM (2G) and are still reachable, the RedMi of my wife is still trying to get LTE signal, ending up offline for _long_ times.
I tried to switch preferred mode to "LTE/UMTS auto (PRL)" (mido default choice when "prefer LTE" is selected is "LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS", which appears to include the Chinese 3G standard too) like my OnePlus 3, which never looses network, but it didn't help: the only way to have it reliably reachable is switching to "GSM only".
I didn't find anything relevant neither by searching nor by browsing the first 30 pages of this subforum: is there anything we can do to improve this? Thanks!
go to about phone. tap multiple times on total memory, a window will open up. open phone information 1,2. choose type of network you want from multiple options

That indeed solves the issue as I wrote, but I don't think that my wife would be happy if I tell her she has to check the signal all the time and, eventually, _try_ to manually switch to "GSM only", and go back when the signal strength improves... that should be modem job!
Update: the affected SIM was in slot 2; moving the SIM to the first slot seems to improve the mode switch. Still the sensitivity doesn't seem exceptional, or perhaps there is some other issue (1), but at least it seems to correctly switch from 4G to 3G and even 2G where the signal is weak.
Testing in "LTE/UMTS auto (PRL)" mode now (I don't need TD-SCDMA here, I assume there is less overhead with less modes); wondering whether is a modem (read: Qualcomm) issue or a MIUI bug.
(1) sometimes the device still looses the network where my OP3 seems connected with very weak signal (-105 dBm) and LTE Discover reports "Potential eCSFB issue detected" (which sounds odd since eCFSB is a CDMA thing, and there aren't any CDMA network here in Italy AFAIK: could it be the way LTE Discover tells that the phone is unable to handshake an existing network?), until it reconnects. Moreover, it seems that RN4 tends to prefer 3G over 2G even when mobile data is off, which is not a good strategy IMO.
Edit: LTE Discover reports "Potential eCSFB issue detected" also on OP3, which works perfectly: it seems its shown when the terminal was unable to successfully register on a network and stays idle until the next connection attempt
I have sort of similar and opposite problems in the USA.
Mine switches from LTE to whatever H+ is and then never switches back on its own. I'm blaming Xiaomi over Qualcomm.

I tried it, it worked if I used the root option and manually hit the refresh button. I read that the auto refresh only works if the signal is one bar or whatever or less.
My signal is strong when it's on H+, so it would never get low enough to make it auto refresh.
What I need is something that would switch my preferred network to Prefer 3G and back to Prefer LTE whenever I'm on H+ for a while, because that gets me back on LTE every time provided that there's LTE in that area.
My Redmi Note 4x international should be capable to connect to the 1800mhz band, which is available in my neighborhood. Sadly I haven't had 4g or LTE since I've gotten this phone (4 weeks) any ideas why it won't connect?

Thank you: started testing. It seems that, despite the better signal, even after refreshing the device still ignores 2G and tries to connect in LTE or H+ mode. I'll see in the next days.

Yep, that's very same issue I'm experiencing. I was feeling alone: in the MI forums I couldn't find no one complaining about that.
Did you notice that when the device connects to a Wi-Fi network the cellular signal indicator suddenly rises (it appears to indicate Wi-Fi signal strength) and appears "4G" next to operator's name, even if cellular data is off?
Too bad, if RN4 didn't have such a bugged radio it was a real bang for the buck.

Try to get some more info from the "LTE Discovery" app: is the device registered on the 4G network but internet access is absent or the device doesn't even register on the 4G network? Does the device detect the 4G signals?
In this thread we are discussing about the opposite problem: our devices don't switch to 2G when the signal is weak...

Unfortunately it didn't help: it doesn't seem to improve overall operation. It even asks to refresh the Wi-Fi connection when there is no cellular signal...
There is really something ill in this modem. Sometimes the signal indicator shows Wi-Fi signal strength instead of cellular. I hope some future release will fix at least some of these issues.

Thank you. I think it's not necessary: since yesterday I'm running MIUI v9.0.3.0 and things improved considerably. I'm quite sure the issue was MIUI 8 which had a complete modem mess, not the app, that was doing its honest work just as it was possible.
