[DEV][INFO][PIT] SM-G900P PIT File - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Android Development

Hey folks, we didn't have it yet and I know I and others have been trying what we could.
Fortunately... a source has provided this so here is the PIT file.
No, this is not the previous leaky source. This source reached out to another XDA member.
So thank whoever the mystery leaker is for this file. (And if they want to claim credit they can do so.)
When I have time I'll go through and do my spreadsheet detailing the PIT breakdown.

Very Nice Sir

This PIT file gives us the layout of the eMMC including partition sizes.
Gives us a better idea of what's on the storage.
(In theory you could modify/repartition but this is highly discouraged.)

How do you read the PIT file? it's not a text file.

I normally get the text results by this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916936
And then calculate the sizes manually as well as based on partition image sizes. Takes some guesswork on a few of them.

you can also use it with jodin, am i correct?

Huh. Didn't hear of that until you mentioned. Might give it a try as I would start visiting my Windows partition even less.

Correct but it doesn't support Yosemite

Where is Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.06.502.3_ExtRom.rar?

I've tried to download it from the FTP and also http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtendedRoms. It keeps saying it's not available or some other error.
Please give a good link. Thanks.
You need to take a moment and read the announcements and news BEFORE coming to the forums. LOL XDA has been told to remove all roms (which would also include ext roms) from the site!
It makes for good reading, although it makes no sense whatsoever!
Read it and weep......Later

They haven't been taken down yet. All other ROMS still can be downloaded.
Looks like the file permissions are not set properly for the file. The permissions set are different from all the other files that can be downloaded, not sure if this was intentional or not.

[Q] Can I somehow upgrade my Android 2.1 phone?

I have the rare projector phone Samsung Galaxy Beam GT-I8520 (the first version). It was only released in Singapore, for a limited time, back in 2010.
Unfortunately, Samsung decided not to upgrade the 2.1 Android version of the phone to 2.2 due to the rarity of the device.
Since then, Samsung launched a new, international, version of the concept with the same name in 2012, but with different hardware and the product code GT-I8530. It was launched with Android 2.3 and has gotten upgrades to Jellybean.
I was wondering if I could somehow upgrade (port?) a firmware(ROM?) for my I8520 using a firmware(ROM?) for I8530?
They have the same resolution and both use ARMv7 instruction set.
Thank you!

you can try porting be sure that processors are matching screen size pixel density etc
you can compare with other devices too select the best one that suits your phone and port the rom from that device

Thank you for the answer. The processors are different and and screen density is different, but the thing is that I would really like the one for I8530, because I also want to be able to use my built in projector.

What porting guide should I use and how should I prepare to make sure that I don't brick my phone?
Is this a good newbie walkthrough for porting? http://rk00064.blogspot.se/2012/04/port-gbcm7stock-roms-to-your-device.html

yea it is a good guide but I think it is copied from xda
for everything you will get answers from xda so why are you searching for another ones
and after building you should debug to find if there any error exists don't know much about that
anyways check here all you need is there
and search in xda and post in rom building section about rom porting questions
you should be debugged and use emulater to find out any error before flashing it into your phone
I have now downloaded a rom for I8520 and one for I8530.
But they do not contain the files I'm supposed to edit. One is called I8520DXJI1.rar and contains a file called SS_DL.dll and a .tar file containing these files:
cache.rfs
modem.bin
ramdisk.img
system.rfs
userdata.rfs
zImage.img
The other, I8530XXLK1_NEELK1_Nordic_Android_2.3.6.zip, also contains a file called SS_DL.dll and a .tar.md5 file.
What should I do with these? Do I need some other kind of roms?

Just haven't hit the right thread yet...
I've put up all those hard to find things, etc
Here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=4298
Look in the odin folder for it,,, and don't forget i zipped it up for a quicker d/l.
CI500_VZW_EH03_GB.CM.tar.d5.zip
Read the info in the file description:
"extract the ".tar.md5" then install with ODIN"
Links and such are in my signature too
Thank you so much!
Would it be okay with you if I put your download links up for a tutorial I'm making? Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! It actually worked! I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't uploaded those!

How to build custom rom as system.img file (not .zip) ?

[SOLVED]
Is there a tool/tutorial which explain how to build a custom rom in the form of .img file (system.img) and not zip file for phone which don't have custom recovery ?
I saw a lot of kitchen which build zip but not a single one which build .img file with proper permission/ownership/selinux label.
The same for tutorial...
Thanks.
[SOLVED]
I see... when it's about zip file for kiddo on samsung phone, there is people.
When it's about real stuff, there is nobody anymore.

Oh my god I never see someone so disrespectful on XDA. Well, when I saw your first post, I would have been happy to help you, but you second post cooled me.

ext2simg may be usefull or not according the implementation of ext4 in android... --> Test needed.
Before flashing, make a dump file [dd] of current fs and convert it with ext2simg. Flash it back with fastboot if things go wrong. [Tested]
Udate
I was able to flash a personnal remix os custom rom, rooted with init.d support [the init.rc hook] and busybox preinstalled [but need to be finaized in android].
ext2simg is a necessity since fastboot doesn't support native ext4 format.

Could you please send me the source code too? If I can verify that it works safely and well, I can go ahead and recommend this post in my Bootloop fix guide .
Edit: The OP has not given me the source yet, however I went ahead and checked the file myself. The MD5 checksums of the modified 4 core files in the zip are identical to the ones I posted, so that's good. I decompiled the exe in dotPeek, and I found no malicious code in it, however, my knowledge of C and dissembling is limited, so that does not mean this file is guaranteed to be safe. But I doubt that this is malicious.
Unfortunately, this file has old files from before the core utilization fix, so I wouldn't recommend using it just for the reason that your device will be very slow. This has great potential though, and if OP maintains it, it could be very viable.
This post has actually inspired me to make a similar program, as many people could benefit from this, and I want to learn C as well, so a project like this would be a great start for me.

Sorry, I was out of town and didn't have access to my computer, btw the code is in C#, I'm sending the code to you right now.
Hey, super excited to try this, as I've been having some issues with the original fix.
For some reason, I get to "is you phone in recovery mode" (Y) and then the application closes. any thoughts?
So far all the "fixing methodes" did nothing....only twrp I was able to run on my nexus6p....I'd like to try this method too but I can't download the files.....I don't use google drive...the browser is trying to download but after 2 seconds....error...?
