Very poor reception - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I just moved and have extremely poor reception at my home. The vzn engineers actually drove the street and proved it t be a dead zone. Network extender works poorly and i rely on my phone for business. Verizon will let me out of my contract w/o etf because of the poor service. Have spent hours on pbone with tech support. Apparently at&t gets better reception here. Anyone have any thoughts about their speed/service in north dallas? I hate changing but this is horrible.

Fwiw i switched to at&t, got an m8 while i was at it and put sbreens nV rom rls2 on it. Stellar performance.
Very surprised how giod reception is. Thx s4 community, appreciate all the advice and camaraderie.

Sprint mobile data keeps dropping

This just started happening a few days ago. Mobile data drops out..no 3g or 1x. Seems to happen on multiple roms, think its a sprint issue. Anyone else?

It's just a 3d issue I'm afraid...when I go from my 3d to photon, I notice better 3g connection
Sent from my MB855 using XDA
I've had this phone since November & never a issue until now
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I've never had any issues like that. In fact I get service where I didn't before. Then again I'm bypassing sprint proxies.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Try calling sprint and have them reset your signal.

Did you happen to flash the vm firmware? That could cause your described issue.

What are you using to bypass the proxies? Where I live 3g is horrible and lately 4g is getting worse

Welcome to Sprint's 3g lol
Yea sprint is whack in some areas.. some areas it's decent. T-mobile 3g is always consistent and heck even faster than sprint 4g sometimes. They need to improve service because it's not reliable.
Its been like that for me since my release day OG...

soo sloow
will drop pick up in a couple days or get another carrier like Verison, flash Evo 3d to Straight Talk
yeah... sprint 3G has sucked for me for like the last 6 months. I think they are intentionally throttling down and degrading 3G quality in towers where 4G is available. that seems to be the trend I am noticing. This way, it encourages us to move off of those channels and free up traffic for others who dont have 4G. Just a theory. But my worst 3G speed / signal is in areas where 4g is available.
I broke my 3d and had to reactivate my old Hero but i cant get any data cuz the area where my account is active (Dallas 469 area code) is having issues so even all the way down here in houston i cannot get my phone to provision on the network because its pulling from Dallas where the problem is. So i have no data at all!!!! Rep said it would be next friday b4 its fixed but they will credit for the time im without data. WTF?
Sprint offered
received READY NOW service today hard reset, wipe and slate test. I'testing

Why does Samsung always have terrible signal?

My first 2 androids were the htc hero and evo. I then switched over to the Epic touch 4g GS2. When i first got that phone, i had extremely weak signal strength and would encounter numerous dropped calls, as well as a complete loss in signal. Eventually, after dozens of modems that i flashed, the signal got better.
I now have the gs3 and am experiencing the same issues that i had when i first got my gs2. Will Samsung ever be able to make a modem that is worth a damn? Also, is this only a Sprint thing, or do other carriers have the same issues?
I've had an airave during in my closet because it refuses to work and just had a continuous blinking yellow light, so that's not a solution.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I meant "terrible signal" not "trouble signal" damn Swype.

I wouldn't know about the sprint gs3, but I heard the 3G isn't that great. I'm getting pretty great signal on hspa+ and lte on att
Sent from AT&T GALAXY SIII
Yeah, I've owned a Thunderbolt, Droid Charge, Galaxy Nexus, and Galaxy S3 all on Verizon and have noticed that none of the Samsung phones have as strong an LTE signal as the Thunderbolt. I heard Moto's phones get better reception than any of the ones I've owned. On the bright side, the GS3 is noticeably better than the other Samsung ones I've owned.
I get great service on my Sprint S3. I typically have at least 4 bars of coverage wherever I'm at, besides a few places.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I get a decent signal everywhere but my apt. I'm in between 2 buildings, which may be blocking the signal. Even so, i usually have 0 bars or no signal. I didn't have this issue with my htc phones. I guess I'll call Sprint and try to get my source airave working.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
That's what I'd do, because I have friends with the att Galaxy S3 and I get better service than they do.

Moving to a Sprint dead zone?

So if all goes well with the mortgage company I'll be moving to an area with poor Sprint coverage. My question is do I get an airrave or switch carriers? I really love this phone, but to be honest I'm tired of crappy Sprint service. I live in mid-michigan and will never see LTE, so I was thinking vzw. Only problem is they don't have any version of the one series. If I were to switch to vzw what would be the best phone to get? I would assume the Sgs3 when it comes out, but not sure what else they have.

Personally I'd probably go for one of the Motorola offerings.

I'd get the nexus, my personal opinion.

I was just checking prices and I'll just get an airrave and deal with my crappy 3g. Its $100 more for less data. Granted I would have LTE, but its not worth $100 when I have WiFi at home and work.

Call Sprint and tell them that you recently move and there is poor service where you currently live. Tell them that you need an Airrave II or you will be force to cancel do to the poor service. I got one and it workd like magic.

Sprint is upgrading the towers in my area of North Hollywood to LTE, which is making my family's mobiles go bonker sh*t. One phone call to Sprint Customer Service later, asked to speak to The Duty Manager, and 3 days later, I had a free AIRAVE. Try it... It worked for me, and now my reception is A M A Z I N G.

Is the airrave strictly for cell service or does it work with data too?

The Airrave II needs to be connected to a High Speed Internet. It will provide data and voice coverage for up to 8000 feet. If you dont like the speed that the Airrave II puts out you can always connect to your wireless internet.
Thanks for the replies, I plan on having WiFi anyways so that probably would be my best option because att and vzw are rediculous with their pricing.

Yes they are. I have 4 lines and pay almost $200. With VZW I would be looking I at almost $400 for the same service I get from sprint. You can always make your phone roam for phone service and 3G data. speed will very. just hit #*#*4636*#*# and on the top select the 3 dots, on the menu that comes up hit 800 mhz. only use this feature as last resource.

That's exactly what I did. Sprint service is generally bad, but where I am its horrible. I called them and a couple days later I got the air rave free of charge.

WTF is up with Sprints LTE

So one week I have LTE at my house, and not at my work, then I get super strong LTE at work and it goes back to 3G at my house. Sometimes I get both, today I don't have LTE at either place. Does anyone know why Sprint can't just leave LTE on and leave the sh** alone???
Verizon is sure looking better and better when my contract is up in December.
Anyone else experiencing this off and on crap?

Check to see if they have officially announced it in your city.. If not then they are testing it and you should be getting LTE very effin soon =]
Google Nexus 4
This happened to me for about 2 weeks and then I had constantly LTE. Before this happened my area had no LTE

Best option: ditch sprint
2 months in sprint talk is 2 years in real life. Verizon has very deep pockets even if its a little more costly they're the better option
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I'm not sure what area you are in, but I'm in hartland, MI. and I was in my local store today and the guy said he had one of the tower techs in there and they said they were waiting on hardware to update the the towers so they put it on hold and went back to the west side of the state until they get more. I can't complain because something is getting done and the tower in Howell was the first one in MI. to get updated, so it won't be long.

They brought their kid to work & they kept flipping the LTE switch on and off.... Relax man they are testing it.
Its still icy in the middle, let it cook.
Most of us had that happen pre rollout, now I get a constant LTE connection.

Note 3 vs G2 reception

Hey guys, torn between these 2 phones. Triband maybe the determinh factor but considering how slow sprints 4g rollout is taking, it might be a non factor for the time being. How is the signal strength on the G2? My galaxy s3 signal is poor and my buddies nexus 4 has poor reception. How is the reception for you guys?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Between the S3 and the G2. I seem to have better signal and better transitions. VZW

I think Samsung is notorious for weak antennas. My GNex struggled at my desk in my office but the G2 fairs well. A co-worker with the Note 2 has poor signal while the woman next to him with an iPhone is fine.

G2 has better reception than my S3, Note 2 and S4 had. G2 doesn't have the lag and stutter that those phones had. G2 is the winner.

I agree with this one, Im on Verizon and Ive had so many OTA updates on Samsung devices and every time its at least a radio update. They have gotten better about this over the years but thats not saying much. I still see them hop in and out of coverage and that really takes a toll on battery. The G2 stays on 4G all the time when im not using wifi and it has no problems, its always picking up 4G especially indoors the signal stays strong.
Im sure triband is an attributing factor here too as well
