[Q] downgraded to mk2 to pre-rooted nc5, now no root HDrls16 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi,
I had nc5, but wanted the hyperdrive rls16 4.4.2..and i got it..but then i lost my root access. i downgraded my NC5 OTA to mk2 then rooted and flashed the pre-rooted nc5. after that I flashed hyperdrives rls16, but lost my root access?? how should i go about this? should i downgrade AGAIN, root the mk2, then flash the hyperdrive rom without the pre-rooted nc5 upgrade??
i pretty much used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2763834 before i flashed the hyperdrive rls16..did i do something wrong?
thanks,

You have to flash Superuser right after you flash Huperdrive. Before you reboot.

So do I have to re downgrade then upgrade again or can I just flash superuser?

yes
to answer your question yes. you need to downgrade again. check out my up and downgrade method thread (all 1 file up or downgrades simply the best and easiest/safest way to upgrade or downgrade and for both new and old bootloaders) and tips for ROMs the next time you flash Hyperdrive, gDux, Foxhound or any other 4.4.2 ROM you need to flash a SuperSu194.zip(find that in my thread as well) before your first restart. So always opt out of the question whether you want to restart during final stage of any aroma install.

[Q] Flashing Back to VRUAMDK

is it possible to flash to stock VRUAMDK from the VRUAME7 build and then root the VRUAMDK build?
Nope. Once you're on ME7 you're stuck on ME7. You can root and you can SafeStrap, and that's it.

No can do. You can't restore the MJ7 bootloader, recovery, or kernel once your bootloader is past MJ7/MK2.

Huh?
Quote the OP: "Can i downgrade from 4.4.2 nc5 to 4.3 mj7 using nandroid backup?" No, no matter how chilled you are.
It doesn't matter HOW you got to NC5, if you have the NC5 bootloader you can't downgrade. If you have a NC5 baseband but a MK2 bootloader, yes, you can restore a nandroid from MK2.
Sorry, my clairvoyance skills are limited this week.

Build NG6 Custom Recovery?

Hi,
I've scowered this forums and internet for a definitive answer, but I am at a loss. I have a GS4 with build VRUFNG6 and I want to flash ROMs. I rooted by downgradeding the kernel, using towel root, then upgrading again. Can I get a custom recovery like safestrap to flash ROMs or am I S.O.L?
Looking for answer to the same question stated above.

Thanks for that link. Can I be on NG6 and flash that? Or should I revert to the NC5 kernel for it?
Edit: found the thread with info.

NG6 Custom recovery
I am new to the Verizon GS4 I just Transferred from sprint. Land of the unlocked bootloader. I am now rooted by way of old kernel, root tool, new kernel method. I am so perplexed on how to get a custom recovery safely on this phone. Youtube videos are old and can find anything new online for ng6. I click the link posted from another user on this thread and it is inactive. I really would like to know how to safely get a custom recovery on this phone. also when I reboot the phone, it sometimes loses root... Is that normal??? I have rooted this phone over and over again due to this. I used root checker basic and it says I have root. I reboot sometimes and lose root. Can anyone please help me asap??? Thank you

You need to research how to root your specific build. They're not all done the same way. As far as a custom recovery, your ONLY option is Safestrap. I suggest you do a lot of reading before you run into bigger problems.

Since he's on nk1, he can still downgrade back to nc5. Go to this thread and get the full wipe nc5:

OK. My baseband says NC5 now, according to plan. Is towelroot my only option? Is safestrap my only recovery option? I thought that if you try to flash a recovery to try a rom when you are rooted with towelroot that it will brick the phone.

I don't know if Towelroot is your only option for root, but it's what I used and it worked fine. As far as recovery, like I said above, Safestrap is your ONLY option.

We can only use towelroot and safestrap. There are a few good roms in the development section that we can flash. Hyperdrive, echoerom, and Eclipse are solid. There are a few others as well that are closer to stock or are hybrids (aosp feel with TW base). Check out that section and flash only the ones that say are compatible with SS. I'm running echoerom v39.1. Be sure to read all the instructions since some of these roms may have other files that need to be flashed with it. Happy flashing!
