New NE6 OTA. Anyone Upgrade Yet? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

It looks like T-Mobile has resumed the GS5 software update, but now it's NE6 instead of NE5 (the version that was pulled). I was able to update via Kies. I'm not really noticing anything new as compared to the NCH firmware that the phone shipped with, so I guess it's just a bugfix release. I can verify, though, that my LTE speeds seem perfectly normal, so I guess NE6 fixed whatever that problem was in NE5. Even though there aren't any new features, bugfixes are always welcome.

Compared with NCH? They updated the fingerprint scanner to be faster, got rid of the delay when waking the phone, and made it a lot faster overall IMO.

Interesting. Dies the fingerprint scanner actually work more than 50% of the time now? lol

NE6 seemed to have fixed the issue I was having with data drops. I haven't had to toggle airplane mode all day.

Well for me it worked closer to 80-90%. Now it's almost 100%. They must have made it less accurate though because sometimes even I think I swiped wrong and it still got it.
EDIT: Wow that was bad grammar. I'm not going to bother with it...you get the point

God I hope so. That's been one of the biggest pains for me.

So far, so good. No data drops, good DL speeds and a wifi calling toggle added just like in NE5.

I upgraded yesterday. Haven't experienced any downfalls from it, so that's a plus at least. It does seem a little faster, but I don't know if that's just a placebo effect. We will see how it performs over the next few days.

I can't find anything that talks about the fingerprint scanner. Where did you see that they upgraded it?

Quick question I never got the E5 update so can I just update from ANC to E6? Or do I need to update to E5 then to E6

I updated using kies from NCH to AE6
Sent from my GT-N8000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I updated yesterday haven't noticed any difference from NCH I don't use the fingerprint scanner thing but everything else seems just as fast or theoretically faster. Battery life checks out.

Kies still tells me that ANE5 is the latest firmware....
Nothing OTA

Does this update break root possibility? I am unrooted but don't want to upgrade and lose the ability to root later if I choose to.

It's not placebo. It is faster. This update was pushed to the international phones a while ago. It improved the camera, fingerprint sensor, and the overall lag. That's why it was ~185mb.

No, as long as we have an unlocked bootloader, rooting will be possible.

Thanks aooga. That's what I thought... Just wanted to double check

Got it last night. Haven't played with everything yet, but it's definitely faster and more responsive! Battery life seems to be much better too. When performing a fast reboot, the list of running background apps is about half of what it used to be. Also, connection with the Gear 2 neo is stronger.

Not yet
Not showing in Kies for me yet either (and rooted so can't do OTA check). Anyone know of if it's a phased rollout to Kies like a regular OTA is?

Anyone having issues with lte speeds on this newer version
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Working very well. My LTE performance is back up to expectations and results from the Speed Test app that was performed before and after I had upgraded to the prior update. This update really has this phone working well!
Now for KitKat 4.4.3 :fingers-crossed:

This is supposed to fix the MMS bug right? That's been by far my only problem with the S5. If it also speeds up the camera, wake, etc, that's great as well.
And I guess I'll have to use KIES finally, as I can't manually pull it yet, unless someone has the zip!
Edit: Kies is grabbing it for me. Kies has sure cleaned up since the last time I used it a couple of years ago... I'm really hoping this fixes the MMS problem. Literally half the time, if I send a group message, I don't get all the responses. I activated my iPhone again for the time being pending this update.

Moto Cast offered update

hi all. i plugged my phone into my computer to transfer music. and i forgot motocast loads up when the phone is connected.
and it offered me an update to my razr.
i am running 651.197.19.XT910.en.EU and it offered me 651.197.21.XT910.en.EU.
i checked the change log and it says its only for german networks.
what should i do? just being curious
I've got it too. Those release notes are actually for 167.19, Germany is the only EN.eu market in which 2.3.6 has been released thus far. Installing now, will try and grab the zip.
It's a small update, just 15MB.
Any noticeable changes? I doubt it if its a whole 15mb.
Although when I ota its not there. Any reason?
Or is it due to location somehow?

Haven't noticed any changes thus far, assume it's just a minor maintenance update. Doubt it's a regional thing (especially given my location), just seems to have been pushed out via desktop rather than OTA.
Will give it a proper day's use tomorrow and see how it goes.

Moto Cast offered me thus update too here in France, so I installed it and it works fine, i don't notice any difference for the moment, we'll see. But considering the minor change in number: from .19 to .21, i think it's a really minor update.
pfff.... I got nothing as usually.... :-/
I had an issue with mobile data not appearing. But it seems to have cured itself. So far with 10 hours up time and medium usage I have 80% left. And I have been in a signal dead zone a bit too. So not bad. Maybe having a new update has given a "placebo" effect.
Next up ics ....please motorola. Lol

[Q] Stock C6833 4.4.2 (build 681) Camera won't take pictures!

As per title, I did an upgrade via the phone (OTA) to the latest that Optus allow here in Oz, 4.4.2. Everything went according to plan, only thing being I didn't wipe (partly cause there wasn't a glaring option and I was in a hurry)
My issue, i can launch the camera, but as soon as i press the on screen shutter button all the other software keys and icons disappear and it appears to be stuck. You can press the power button and darken the screen then press the power button to get the screen saver, swipe away and get the back, home and recent buttons, as well as the other camera buttons.
I've loaded another camera app, but this behaves the same way, only when you wake it back up after putting it to sleep, it takes a couple of snaps...
I'm guessing it may be something to do with where my camera defaulted to send the pictures (SD card) and how Google don't encourage the external SD card these days...
Any one with similar issues?
BTW, it's not urgent - i'll just flash it again, or unlock and root again, or wipe it and put linux proper on it... just curious to know if other folk on here have had similar issues...
I guess i should debug properly and maybe let people know, but if no one else has issues, then it's probably bad DNA lurking in the darkest recesses from previous fiddling - but still odd, cause i went from stock to stock this time...

It's a known android bug present in all 4.4.2 roms. There's an update in the pipeline apparently.

The exactly same thing to me, and use front camera is working fine.
To solve this problem, first, use Flash tool install 681 HongKong TFT,then change to Sony PC Companion, check for new firmware, after Sony PC Companion finish the phone update,
Everything working fine.
I have exactly the same problem with my c6833. I don't have the energy to flash another rom. The camera pretty much stunk anyway. I use my Nokia 925 to take pics even sans a Sim card.

Btw.. There are ext sd write fixes for 4.4.2 and I now save pics there (but must be rooted)

No. If anything it will plug a possible root exposure.
^^^
That is why I haven't installed it. It is getting quite annoying having to to dismiss it all the time however. Does anyone know what EXACTLY is in it? I was over in the general S6E+ forums and I read something about an update fixing the wireless charging. Which, mine does not work. (It cuts off after a few minutes)
That would be great if it fixed it, but not if it blocks a possible avenue to root the phone down the line. Verizon doesn't really say what is in the update. It just says security updates. If it said security and your wireless charging might finally work, it might be more tempting.

Yes. Did all of that. I'll have to get the new version. People say the fast charging version works flawlessly.
I'm in the same boat... my brand new wireless charger is not working properly either. Verizon can be irritating as **** when it comes to updates and proprietary BS. They are more like Apple everyday.

The update that came out today is for Samsung pay to work on Verizon phones. Ive been putting off the update for the same reason that maybe a developer will find a exploit in one of these older software versions. I had manually installed BOG2 months back, so wondering why it would be available OTA only now.

I took a chance and installed the BOK1 SK Telecom version on my Gear S bought in India. Went off well, and it does feel a bit snappier.
Also, I see an option in Gear Manager to forward calls from the Gear S to the phone (earlier, you could only forward from phone to the watch).
Anybody get their Gear S (with new update) to connect to a non-Samsung device running Android 6.0?
