Wow Justin this is great for those without locked bootloaders. Really allows them to take part in such things like the tether exploits I posted. No way to get it to survive reboot though?

someone tested this on Droid Maxx?

This is exactly what needs to be done. I was able to revert back to 19.5.3 and have now gained root via jcase's exploit.
For those who need to know how to do this, you will need to download the 19.5.3 update for your phone:
Droid MAXX: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=4 (alternate version by @NWKENT, prevents losing data)
Droid Ultra: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=1
Droid Mini: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=2
Then you will need to use RSD Lite to flash it to your phone. This thread will explain how to do that if you are unfamiliar. Follow the Method 1 instructions. When it gets to the part about removing <step operation="getvar" var="max-download-size" />, you actually have to remove a few additional lines to make it work. These are the lines I removed from the XML file...
<step operation="getvar" var="max-download-size" />
<step operation="oem" var="fb_mode_set" />
<step operation="oem" var="config carrier vzw" />
<step operation="oem" var="fb_mode_clear" />
Once I removed those, I was able to flash via RSD Lite with no troubles. Thanks again to jcase for this exploit.

Not currently.

So after doing this exploit and messing around somehow my write protect managed to disable? Is this normal? Its showing a 0 when I check in the terminal. I tried a soft reboot and it stuck, I'm kind of worried to do a full reboot lol

OK so I just did a full reboot and write protect is still at 0, but I still need to reroot every time? Any ideas?

i was messing around with motowpno, redoing the root.sh everytime the phone had to reboot. wpnomo said the installtion failed but i was going through getprop in the terminal and noticed write_protect was at 0! i almost had to go change my unders haha. so i soft rebooted and it all was well(still had root and w/p off) so i hard booted and lost root(obviously due to this expolit but w/p was still at 0! so i rerooted and tried to install safestrap and it worked! flashed superuser.zip and now it and xposed are installed directly to system
edit- after 3 hardboots i still have root and w/p off

Cool, I'll play around with MotoWpNoMo and see if I can achieve the same results.

[Q] Can't Figure Out How to Root

I need help with rooting my phone. I have gone to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957155
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2043636
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1884#tutorial
I first started out with Samsung Galaxy Note II Kit. But, the update said I needed to do something about unlocking my boot loader, so I went to the Adam Outtler page. But, he says in the first post that this won't work If you do it with an OTA update after January 18, 2012. Well, I didn't notice that first anyways and tried Odin, and all it would do mainly was fail, or setup connection would take forever, and even Casual says:
/system/bin/sh: su: not found
noroot
DEVICE IS NOT ROOTED! ROOT YOUR DEVICE! Install any VRALJB ROM --Adam Outler
What I think I need to do is uninstall the OTA update, but most people I have seen do it through a rooted phone, but I don't have one yet. I have no idea what to do, and I am really confused and don't want to hard brick or screw up my phone. Could anyone help me with this? I am sorry if I am being stupid about this, but the only thing I ever rooted was a NOOK tablet which was simple.
P.S. I am sorry but if anyone respond between the times of 10am-12pm today, and 4pm-12am today, I will not be able to respond due to work arrangements I have for today.
First confirm the baseband: System Settings > About Phone > Baseband. If it shows VRALL4, you have the update and need to use the updated root and unlock method here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118348
Just go slowly and follow the directions (measure twice and cut once), its pretty easy. Good luck.
start at section 1 of my guide...then if youwant to unlock follow adams thread. make sure to use his latest "jailbreak" method(the one linked in my guide).
If you on the latest software from Verizon, just use Adams guide. That's all I did. Need any help let me know!
Or just follow this dude here.

the last thing i would recomend is using anything other than adams or my thread. also the op may just want root, which he can simply place root66 in odin and be done. the latest software adds no benifit other than if you like to internet bench race.

[Q] Length of time to root Incredible 4g

Ok, I tried to post this in the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE All-In-One Toolkit V2.1 [1-31-2013] thread, but I don't have enough posts to be allowed to post there.
I started the root process, and got to the point where I was asked to accept the "fake" restore, and NOT accept it, however after letting this portion run for close to an hour, I unplugged the phone. How much time should this step take? Also, what is the time frame from start to finish to root the phone using the toolkit?
Thanks guys!

Ok, the errors were what was taking forever. Are you saying that once they start I can accept the restore, and not to wait until they are done and I get back to a prompt on the CMD window?
Also I didn't think the all in one worked. Check out mdmower's unlock script.

I couldn't get the root to work. It told me to open a hex editor and look for a specific value, but the value in my file didn't match what they said it would, and as a result I had to perform a factory reset. Oh well.

The developer of that all-in-one app doesn't stop by this forum section very often. You're better off following one of these threads:

Thanks mdmower! I think I've decided not to root the phone, since I can't find one that seems to work. I'm not looking for a new OS, just wanted to root it, mainly to get rid of some of the bloat apps.

It's not difficult with mdmower's automated script. I know very little about this process and I had no trouble performing the procedure by myself. I recommend the superSU package to flash in to get the phone rooted. I did this a few weeks ago and it's working great.

So I got my bootloader unlocked but unfortunately during the second flashing process the up test program froze and errored out, now my phone isnt recognized in adb devices and will only go into s/w upgrade mode.
Edit: I also tried fastboot and was able to sucessfuly get into fasboot but flashing the stock x-loader and u-boot was unsucessful and fastboot just gave me the "waiting on device" message.
Edit 2: So after quite the night of running through your guide and a couple of hard ships, I have to say this a very well written guide and it would have worked the first try if I had been doing too much multitasking while in the second flash process.
Overall was easy to follow and I got through after having failed attempts with others guide before due to oem unlock command not working after waiting.
Also I highly reccomend anyone who is going to try this to at least give the other tutorials on unlocking the bootloader for the p769 a solid read through. It will make a difference in what you understand and dont.
Lots of props and I look forward to seeing what you do for our phone in the future!

[Help] USA T-Mobile LG P769 S/W Updaer problem.

I found this phone today without a sim or sd card in it today. When I tried to boot it it just sits at the LG logo. I'm not new to MODing and rooting androids but I can't get this to work.
What I've tried is the 3 button rest with no luck so I went to the S/W Updater. I'm using the AIO tool I found in these threads. I've installed the lg drivers and was trying to flash the ICS V10G_00.kdz cause I'm not sure what version of andriod was on it.
I followed the guide but when it starts to flash it gets to 15% and says the phone is not connected to my PC. I attached a screenshot of the error I'm getting. I'm pretty sure I installed everything else I need except I'm not to sure if I have the correct drivers or maybe I need other drivers with them.
Anyone know what I can try to get it working? I haven't messed with many LG's so they are pretty new to me.
Any help would be awesome.
Remember I was never able to boot the phone on so I wasn't able to install any of the drivers that would normally install them selves by plugging in the usb and I couldn't change any of the usb settings in the developers settings.
TIA for any help.
So you "found" phone eh? Maybe they're is a reason no one wanted it anymore.

Yeah I figured this not booting was why they through it out but thought I might be able to recover from it. I've got phones to come back from worse. I just hate these updaters, thats why I never got another Samsung. I didn't even know LG had them. I rooted the optimus s and marquee and never seen an updater. I'm a HTC guy my self.

To check if its working, select the option for just fastboot.
Once in that window, type
fastboot devices
This should let you know if it's working.
I like to run the commands manually, Lol it's more reassuring, that everything was done properly.

Have you rebooted (windows) and pressed f8 at boot?

To check if its working, select the option for just fastboot.
Once in that window, type
fastboot devices
This should let you know if it's working.
I like to run the commands manually, Lol it's more reassuring, that everything was done properly.

Thanks for your help.

Here is some help I gave to someone else
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43703982
Since you have fastboot running now, just follow the direction on the third link.
After flashing in fastboot, run the offline flash program.
Actually, what happened to that phone you found, might be the same problem for the person on the third link.

How do I uninstall the lg United drivers to reinstall them? Ithink thats my issue now. My other problems were cause I wasn't running any programs from the :C drive but I fixed that.
Now I can't get the phone to boot into s/w mode.
Thanks again for your help.
Go to your device manager on your computer to uninstall the drivers.
Sent from my LG-P769(20F) using the xda-developers app. Now hit thanks, 'cause it makes me feel good!

I figured it out but I still can't get into s/w mode on the device. I was able to before manually flashing the files. Any ideas how to fix that?

Did you check the md5 sum for the u-boot.img and see if they matched what I posted. Your download might be corrupt. Just the auto option to flash x&u ice for p769

[Root] RockMyMoto (Yes, even the first OTA)

This will void your warranty, like all root exploits. Use this at your own risk. Do not take OTAs on rooted devices unless you know what you are doing, as it may cause a bootloop or a soft brick.
RockMyMoto is designed for MotoXs that have recieved the Camera update, patching PwnMyMoto. If you are unsure of your firmware, try PwnMyMoto first.
First step is to install Cydia Impactor, by Saurik. http://www.cydiaimpactor.com/ This is required. You will also need adb installed and working, and be comfortable with the command line. Your phone must be on the same network as your PC.
Figure out the ip address of your phone:
adb shell getprop dhcp.wlan0.ipaddress
Click to collapse
unzip RockMyMoto-{version}.zip and push the exploit and su to /sdcard/:
adb push su /sdcard/
adb push RockMyMoto.jar /sdcard/
Click to collapse
Run Impactor and select "# start telnetd as system on port 2222", then hit start.
Once the process is complete, run telnet:
telnet {your phone's ipaddress} 2222
Click to collapse
Run the exploit through telnet
dalvikvm -cp /sdcard/RockMyMoto.jar RockMyMoto
Click to collapse
The exploit will tell you to use adb to reboot:
adb reboot
Click to collapse
Run the exploit through telnet for the second time, it will reboot on it's own:
dalvikvm -cp /sdcard/RockMyMoto.jar RockMyMoto
Click to collapse
Run the exploit through telnet for the third time, it will not reboot:
dalvikvm -cp /sdcard/RockMyMoto.jar RockMyMoto
Click to collapse
Wait 0-60 seconds, for su to install, then install SuperSu from the market.
Enjoy!
Known issues:
If you have AP isolation mode enabled in your AP (aka WiFi router) you won't be able to connect to your phone via telnet, disable isolation.
Windows users having trouble see here
I confirm that this does work on the Droid Maxx on the new OTA update !!!
Thanks JCASE Much Appreciated !!!
Thank you!
Looks like I'm going to be at a loss. I never learned how to use adb :/

This might a dumb question, but why don't we just release a rooted OTA update?
Quick question about this exploit. I know that the issue with the first two earlier methods is that everything is still signature checked, which prevents Custom ROM/Kernel flashing, as well as Custom Recoveries.
Does this exploit bypass the signature check to allow for custom recovery, or not just yet?
PS: Your skills are godlike. A million thanks for your root hacks!

I'm not sure why or how I did this but I am rooted with no write protection off I still have stock recovery. Everything went smooth but when I entered dalvikvm -cp /sdcard/RockMyMoto.jar RockMyMoto for the first time it said I was rooted and to install super user I have tried since to go through the steps but i end up in the same spot
~ $ dalvikvm -cp /sdcard/RockMyMoto.jar RockMyMoto

youve almost got a triple negitive going on there, so to clarify, you are rooted, with write protection disabled (ie cant make lasting changes to /system) and you still have stock recovery. is that right?
I am getting link failed file exists when attempting to start telnet.
Forget all that, I was using the wrong port, now the process beings to start the telnet process hangs at waiting for completion then goes back to the impactor main menu, the telnet connection is not successful after that.
I am using the latest soak test update, Am I wrong thinking that this method works with that update?

Yup sorry if it was confusing.
Ok I think I figured it out my phone is already rooted even after a factory reset. I used voodoo when I took the update and everything worked but I had no touchless controls so I did a factory reset after installing stock recovery. I must have had the protected su on the phone still and it stayed unless jcase has a work around for this I am stuck until the new fxz comes out. Then I can completely wipe su out and I will be able to start all over. It really is not that big of a deal I can use almost everything with just root even xpsosed setting work. It would appear the exploit does not allow you to run it if you have root it must verify you do and thinks all is well so it never installs the writer protection off and replaces the stock recovery. My stupid mistake for trying to short cut this I should have just did an fxz took the update and used this method.
Aaaaaaaaand back to rooted. JCASE you are the man!!
If anyone has questions on what to do ask away. it was very simple
I've never used adb before in my life. Would you recommend me trying it lol. Meaning would it be easy for a first timer.

ADB is not difficult. There are tons of tutorials all over the web. I wish I knew more about telnet and the other stuff involved tho

You need to go into settings and about phone. Scroll to the bottom to build number and tap it like 6-7 times you'll see it countdown and say "now you are a developer". This enables developer options
