[Q] Problem with moto e... Whether to return or service? - Moto E Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys i bought a moto e from flipkart (ordered on 3rd June & got on 6th) ... And i found these three problems in that:
1. My back shell is moving up & down... Not fit
2. There is a very small black dot in the screen.. (dont whether dust particle...but it is inside)
3. Charger overheats on charging for around 10 minutes :crying:
So what to do? Return whole product to flipkart or goto motorolla service cente ?

1. call Flipkart for the loose case and they will give you new case.
2. no idea about it.
3. same here

1. That's there in all Moto E's.... but its not a prob, just the cover slides a little....
2. Don't no about that... Haven't observed in my phone...
3. Same here... But this issue was resolved when I plugged in the charger in a tight fitting plug....
Your best bet is to initiate a return from FK.... It's quite hassle free...
Hope this helps....:good:

HD2's vibrator died

as corny as the topic maybe,
i need some help concerning it's "vibrator".
i've done some search but can't find what i was looking for.
so,
my hd2's "vibrator" died recently. the phone doesnt vibrate anymore.
but u can tell that its trying because the phone doesnt vibrate
but u can hear a slight click sound on the motor/actuator.
i've reflashed my phone to its original rom and spl and sent it in for warranty claims.
i'm just wondering how can the vibrator suddenly die. putting into account
that the phone has never been dropped before, has been handled with care, and it's practically new (date of purchase Jan 1st 2010). what could have caused it?
help and answers are much appreciated, thanks
regards,
edi
location ; malaysia, south east asia.
does it even not vibrate when you turn your device on?
i would say you should flash the stock rom and bring it to the shop where you bought it...or send it to htc...whatever..
i think its a warranty case...

i think i did mention ive done so.

i had the same issue. check if you "pressed in" the little glass of the led flash. if you do, the vibrator will stop working. i think its a design issue.. i sent it back and
they sad it works, because in the meantime the glass came out again... try sending it back for repair!
uh yeah, sorry mate...my mistake
i think i read it to fast
the reason...i think nobody can mention it exactly..
i would say its just a "normal" defect and it will only happen to 1/100000 devices or so just destiny

Nice disassembly tutorial, but in this case there is no need to replace the vibrator motor, it works just blocked by the plastic flash window. Pulling it out by a suction cup is a good instant fix but it is likely to be pushed back again. I faced the same problem right after buying my HD2, then I disassembled the phone, and noticed how weak the factory fixation is. Pushed back the window then fixed it with a VERY SMALL AMOUNT of 2 component epoxy glue. Stays in position since ~8 months.

Just broke my charging cradle

Snapped off one of the plastic tabs on my Gear S charging cradle. I'm always careful putting it on the watch. Now it won't stay on to charge. Going to try to get a new one tomorrow. Be careful!

Charging cradle - Gear S broken
I have the exact same problem. The clip on the charging cradle broke. I am also very careful with my devices and was unaware that it broke until it couldn't clip on one day.
Samsung will not honour warrantee on this because they say it is 'physical damage' . I am vehemently arguing that this did not break through any careless handling. The unit is very flimsy.
They MUST replace it. I am waiting a response from them.
I had the watch for barely a month now. How many of these crappy cradles will I have to go through???

This happened to a few people over at androidcentral.com as well. Same answer: Samsung won't honor the warranty, and they had to buy a new charger, which doesn't come cheap. I am super careful now, but feel it's only a matter of time until they all break
I also broke one of the clips on the charging cradle. I was not aware of any kind of warranty, but I have my own solution.
Basically, I attach the charging cradle to the Gear S and slide everything onto an empty vitamin bottle. This keeps the charging cradle attached and I have not had any problems so far. I will post a picture of this when I recharge my Gear S tonight.
Just happed to me...I use the gear s as a standalone device on t-mobile...called them and they are replacing the charger for free. I should e getti it Friday and will let you guys know. Btw Has anyone tried to glue the broken plastic part back on and reconnected it?

Make sure they send you the actual cradle. Others were told they'd get a replacement and were shipped the wall wart instead.

T-Mobile sent me a wall wart without the cradle. T-Mobile doesn't carry a replacement charger.
You may want to call and confirm before it arrives.

Ha, I kept trying to imagine what you meant! Thanks for posting the pic, you never know when you may find this useful.
My cradle is still OK, but ever since I started hearing about this issue, I am dread having to charge my Gear S.
To all those that have broken their cradles. . . .
Just wondering what technique you use for attaching the watch to the cradle?
Do you centre it then press in the middle or do you locate one tab then press on the opposite tab?
I always use the, one tab then opposite, technique and it seems to work well with no issues so far.

Attach at the bottom then snap the top. Mine is broken. Pops off from the top. The top tab is cracked.
I am FURIOUS and will start making YouTube videos to call them out. Hopefully everyone else can take a few minutes to do the same. Faulty garbage.

I was just thinking that it would be helpful if all of you with broken cradles could post pictures. That's undisputable proof - and once online, it will never go away.
I am also just curious to see what they look like, as I have an idea of what is breaking off, but have never seen the defect myself (yet).

It's not even "broken off" the tab is just not working anymore.
It's going to happen to everyone's. It's obviously the way it is built. I'll have to do a video because you can't tell it's broken by just looking at it.

Battery for Moto E, looking to replace.

I have realised my battery has gone weak after more than 2 years of usage. I am looking to get a new one.
Apparently original batteries are not available online, I tried to get in touch with authorised service center, even they do not have.
Does anyone know if there are other sources to buy an original battery ?

There are plenty of them if you're from India. I have bought from the same place. There's nothing such as "original". Motorola does not manufacture the batteries. Third party companies manufacture it for them. The one I received was EXACT same as the original one I had. It says manufactured by Sony Corporation. The new battery works like it should. Gives complete one day backup with moderate-heavy usage like Motorola originally stated. Sometimes works for 1 and half days. So don't worry, these are all imported stuff, you can trust them. I don't think there are any local manufacturers for Motorola phones' batteries.

Service centers are fine. They are not supposed to keep stocks of spare parts with them which they can sell, it's not a shop. They order the parts when required.

I don't know why are they refusing but Moto E batteries are easily available on eBay and other online stores and even at places like Nehru Place, New Delhi. They are not fake local batteries.
Battery is not "sealed" bro. There are two back covers, one which you remove by hand and other one is screwed using 16 T4 screws. Just unscrew and remove it and there you have the huge battery which is plugged into the mobo using two very thin wires. Just unplug, remove the battery which is stuck to the inner back cover by some strong adhesive (hands are enough, no heat gun needed) and put in the new battery and plug it in. I replaced mine myself, took me 15 minutes.

Exactly!
I did change battery locally. But this battery only lasted me just over 2 years while i have a sony tipo its from 2010 its battery is in good condition.
Not everyone have that kind of screw driver. But thanks for the headsup.
What about the idea to replace the battery with a "compatible" (so, 3,8v) battery made for any other phone, but that fit in?
In the moto E the battery is locked by an useles/easy to cut-off plastic cover.... the original battery is 4mm (something less) thin... so, if you cut off the plastic, you can replace the battery with something of about 48x73x5mm. So, we need just to find a good battery of this size and solder the small cable in the original battery.
The problem is: which 3,8v battery have the right size?
try moto e seacond gen battery its having around 2500 mah power. our phone will be awosum with that battery .

Need a new battery for my N6...

Trying to eek by til December with my Nexus 6 as my ex-wife's kids are still on my AT&T plan and that is when there AT&T Next expires. I could get a new phone now with AT&T but I want a Pixel on Verizon.
My phone only lasts about 4~5 hours now and shuts off saying the battery is dead when it still has about 20% left. Guess it really doesn't!
Anyway I need a battery and I would prefer a factory Motorola battery but I'm not sure where the best place to get one is OR is I should be looking at something else.
Can someone give me some direction here? Thanks!
This belongs in the q&a section but eBay and amazon surely has them

Well obviously they have them along with TONS of fakes. I'm asking for a reputable place to buy one from that isn't going to burn my house down and kill my kids!
Nexus 6 Replacement Battery
Today, I’ve contacted Google Project fi before I order a replacement phone. My 18-months old N6 now only works with AC adapter plugged in after gotten worse for the last 5 weeks. Uggh! The Google CSA and I agreed that battery in my N6 is "dead". During the last minute, fervent research to 1) repair thru Motorola ($175 and up), or 2) myself, an electronic tech-retired ($30 or less), I found the following link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/solution-phone-shutting-battery-empty-t3041226
After following that simple procedure, my phone NOW works without charger connected. (Hope this is the "fix" I was searching for the last several weeks.) Please give it a chance.
Few things I've considered inclining to $175 battery replacement by Motorola was N6 the BIGGEST screen and its initial cost of $600. BTW, least expensive Proj fi compatible phone is N5X at $249. Of many concerns: 1) Recent Samsung battery explosions; battery is very fragile item, same as my limb! 2) No OEM (Motorola) battery available at reasonable cost by third party; or trust eBay batteries? 3) Reliability of my phone, etc. These are my reasons toward repair by Motorola.

OK well that is interesting. I still bought a new battery but it didn't fix the "phone randomly shutting down" issue and reporting it was dead.
I did this and my phone instantly jumped from like 96% to 84% upon reboot. Curious to see if it fixes the random reboots now.

I got that one a month ago. Came about half charged. Seems to be OEM. Still getting battery temp readings.
Good capacity measurements from accubattery. Phone easily lasts twice as long as before and no longer shuts off at 15-20% or when taking pictures / using the flash.
Seller forgot to include tools, but a steak knife worked real well to pry the back enough to stick some credit cards in.
@ziddey I have received the same battery, but I have not replaced yet.
The electric connector points to the opposite direction.
Can you confirm that if I bent it it will fit?

Try to "hard calibrate" it by booting into "bootloader" mode using rooted "Rebooter" apk from Playstore and scrolling to "Bootloader Logs" page using Vol- button. Then hold "Power Button" for 15sec until phone turns off and then back on (Google splash screen) and then release button.

Neither. I would buy through Amazon if you're in USA as easy return can't be beat. AliExpress is Chinese seller who frequently sells fake or exaggerated battery capacity.

I live in Turkey. Unfortunately, amazon does not send the batteries. Could you recommend product from Aliexpress site?

Then take a chance and try one as who knows what's real and what's exaggerated. No idea which is good from China. Maybe EBay from England or EU?
I recently bought a battery from this UK ebay store https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-...948627&hash=item4aff403767:g:TyUAAOSwr7ZW6plm
It says they are refurbished but I took a chance. I've been running the new battery for a couple of weeks now and it's been close to perfect.
Ordered the one nemanja066 linked. Should arrive within the next week. If the battery fixes my issues, I may have a Pixel 2 xl collecting dust!

I bought this battery today from your link. I hope the battery will be nice. Do you think the new battery will solve the problem of random shutdown?

Sounds a hardware problem so. You should change your defective battery. It is a typical problem of these devices.

is there an app or a way to test the battery health while the phone is charging? to make sure its the battery not anything else controlling the power in the phone

There are many apps for testing it, try some from the google play. But it would be better to find the Motorola's service of your area, because it might has problem the motherboard as well. I'm saying this from my experience.

the problem that motorola service in egypt "my area" will cost me more than the phone price .... thats why i wanna do it or test it myself
I have that problem for months. Changing battery helped me for 3 or 4 months. But it keeps happening. I'm having that issue "again" so if you have chance to buy another one do it. Save yourself and save your money for good. Cause you'll keep paying for battery after warranty and you'll say yourself "wow i could buy another phone."

I got issue, so i decide to buy new battery
Well done
Hello , this is due to android 7.1 update . Lenovo is responsible for doing this to us , it´s called programmed obsolenscence to make you buy new phones. This moto z is the cheapest vr ready phone in the market with a long long life in terms of tech , the only way is to buy a moto mod check in ebay (sept-2019) they are selling some for cheap from hong kong because a new moto mod battery came out with more mah.
I have had that battery issue before with a Moto Z that I bought in November 2016. The issues started around August 2017. When I had the issues I prolonged the use of the phone without replacing it by using a battery mod, but after some time it would power off even while on the battery, and would immediately power off the second I took the battery mod off probably a few months before that.
I eventually gave into buying a new battery for it and attempting to replace it myself. I rooted the phone first thing when I initially got it, so I didn't try doing official repairs since warranty was voided. Ended up breaking the screen in the process, ordering a new screen (had issues), and then ended up refunding the screen and just sending it into Motorola for replacement. The new 3rd party battery did seem to work without issue for the short time I tested it, so that may be an option, but might end up needing to be replaced in a year. The screen was really easy to break though.
I got a refurbished phone back and it is just now starting to show the same issues again (Replaced it March 2018, have not rooted yet). Had it abruptly die at around 20% earlier today. Not that bad but good to know that it may be starting to happen with this phone. This one I still have left plugged in every night, but without the turbo charger.
Debating on the next phone upgrade right now or if I just want to downgrade to a Moto Z Play I have laying around if it becomes unusable. I will still keep them around since I mess around with the dev kit, but not planning on getting another Motorola as a main phone if I get a new one.
