[Q] how to turn off camera focus sound - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried renaming following sound files from /system/media/audio/ui
camera_click.ogg
camera_focus.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg
I could disable shutter/video-record sound.
But focus sound just before the shutter is not disabled.
If you can could you tell me how to disable it?
Regards,

For me the shutter sound toggle doubles as a focus sound toggle so when I disable shutter sound, the focus is also silenced. But in some countries mobile devices are not allowed to take pictures in complete silence because of privacy regulations, so the shutter sound at least remains. Does it still make the shutter sound if you put the tablet in silent mode?

Thank you for your reply.
Even if the silent mode, focus sound sounds.
I consider that the sound files is embedded in the camera apk like following device.

But this thread is for Samsung Galaxy Note 3,
I don't understand how to tweak for this tablet.

If the renaming method is not possible, you can use a workaround via the app "Tasker" (an invaluable tool anyway).
In Tasker you can make a profile that says "If the camera app is open, set device audio to 'Silent' (or 'Vibrate only')".

But he said that silent mode doesn't affect the fucos sound.

Can't be. When I put my tablet into silent mode via volume rocker (in the status bar the "vibration only" symbol appears), the camera remains absolutely silent.

Is your stock camera app also completely silent (no focus beep either) when the tablet volume is on, but shutter sound turned off in camera settings?

Yes, when I set shutter sound to "off" (seems to reset automatically to "on" when leaving camera app...) the camera is absolutely silent.

Well that option doesn't mute the focus sound for the OP, so that means he lives in one of those countries where mobile devices not allowed to photos silently (or he doesn't live in one of those countries but his tablet was made for use in them), so then indeed, putting the device in silent mode does not mute the camera.

I have the same problem, just traveling in Japan in a Japanese SIM card and i still have the focus sound after renamed the shutter ogg, anyone can fix this?

[Q] Question about volume types

Under settings>sound>volume,
there are 4 types.
i only know 3 of them.
"incoming call" is the ringtone volume when the phone receive a call
"Media" is volume of apps, games, music player etc
"notification" is the notification sound like sms, reminder, calender etc
but what is "system" sound?
i notice that the system sound is related to the camera sound,
if i turn system sound all the way down to minimum, the camera focus and shutter sound gets turn off. (i love it that way)
as much as i like to camera shutter sound to be off, i am worried that i might mute some other "important" system sounds, so may i know what are the apps that are related by the system sound?
also, there seem to be many tutorial on how to mute camera sound, why is that needed if this simple way of turning system volume off can do the trick? perhaps is because it cause more harm than good? (such as muting other "important" apps sound)
Hmm....no reply from anyone.
no one knows the answer? or this is too stupid question?
anyway, i left the system volume off for few days now, it seems normal,
viber notification sound still on, only difference so far is the screenshot sound is muted as well.
for fyi for any one who is interested

[Q] Tweak help. disable camera sound.

I have seen a few method to make the camera shutter and focus sound silence, actually one method work, but try to find better method.
Of course rooted.
Galaxy II method:
1. create a file /data/local.prop
Result: not work, everything just the same.
Xperia Arc method:
2. Edit 2 files. /system/build.prop, system/etc/customization/settings/cust.prop. ro.camera.sound.forced=1
Result: Camera won't open after reboot, don't know why not working, just think it should work on NEO if it works on ARC, any try this?
3. replace corresponding m4a to silence sound file, located in /system/media/audio/camera/common/af_success.m4a & /system/media/audio/camera/sound3/shutter.m4a
Result: success, but not easy to return focus sound back on if I want it.
Anyone has experience? I know, flashing custom rom can work, but I don't want... yet.
Umm...can't you just set the sounds off? I can on my unrooted 2.3.3.
What problem?
Just put your phone on silent by holding the volume down key before you open the camera app.
Fixed.
Thanks for the information, now I guess it should be the option disabled for my region.
I don't have "silence" option in camera, only can choose 1,2 and 3.
Even I turn all my volume and set silent mode, my camera shutter sound is still playing.
launch camera
slide left side panel out
click shutter sound and set it to off
works for me
thanks, then I think UK version is able to turn off camera shutter sound.
mee too
my neo has not shutter sound off option

turn off screenshot sound

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 rooted.
How can you remove (permanently and with active mode sounds)
the sound of a screenshot?
I know that the sound can be removed silencing the phone,
but I want the screenshot sound does not feel even when the sounds are active.
I tried "local_prop" and "camera_apk modded" methods
but the screenshot sound is always present.
Help me please.
In the sound settings, turn the system volume all the way down & leave it there. I leave my system volume muted and never hear the screenshot sound or camera shutter when taking pictures.

Turn off all camera/camcorder sounds?

I have moved all of the .ogg files from the system/media/ui folder related to the camera but the camcorder focus sound still persists.
So far I have moved (to my SdCard for safe keeping):
Auto_focus.ogg
Auto_focus_error.ogg
Cam_Start.ogg
Cam_Stop.ogg
camera_click.ogg
Camera_click_short.ogg
Camera_empty.ogg
camera_focus.ogg
Camera_timer.ogg
Shutter.ogg
Shutter_multiple.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg
Is there a sound in some other folder I'm missing? the focus sound doesn't play on the camera, only the camcorder.
Anybody?
go to your camera settings and turn your shutter sound off. Auto focus makes no noise and camera pictures doesn't either.
Edit: I see what you mean about the video focus making the noise. You can turn your volume down and itll stop making the noise.
I don't have a setting for turning the shutter sound off. I don't have a shutter sound anyway. I disabled it. But the focus sound is still on. I can't find the sound file.
Must be a feature on JB11. It turns off the camera but the video still makes the noise.
When I set my phone to vibrate the video focus stops making the noise.

Then something isn't right with your phone. Just took a picture on silent and no capture sound.
Could be to do with different laws in different countries regarding camera sounds however..
Mute system volume ...
I remembered that in the samsung S3 there was the camera_empty.ogg file that did not make any sound, so I've replaced all the files of the camera with this, and now the camera is silent, with the exception (don't know why yet) of the stop in video recording.
With the same file camera_empty.ogg I've created a ringtone called silent, so now I can have the phone with vibration only when a call is received (something I got with the GS3)

After doing a factory reset and replacing again all the camera sound files with the muted one, all operations are silent now :good:
