[Q] s3 Fails Dimming test after toilet drop - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks, Haven't been here since my HTC tilt days. Wife dropped s3 in toilet and didn't take out battery right away. I took it apart about 10 hours later. Started with screen flicker. Dried it again over night and used hair dryer. I've used the on board diagnostic and all works fine except the dimmer test. Colors come up fine but when I tap to dim it dims and starts to flicker, goes black, flickers back, sometimes stays black or reboots. I've done a factory reset. I haven't seen any general screen flicker since. When it goes into sleep/screen saving mode it must go black for about 15 seconds before it is able to wake it up again.
Anyone know if this is motherboard, screen or software issue?
Thanks

Obviously it's a hardware issue dude. Send it to a repair shop because it may needs a new thing.

Thanks. figured I can bypass the problem if I don't let it dim. Set it to sleep only after 10 min. As long as you manually set it to sleep mode with the power button all seems good.

Okay dude.

So it seems that this bypass doesn't hold up. So I used my s3 screen on the wife's motherboard- no problems. Then I used her screen on my motherboard- no problems. Put hers all together - problems start again. Any ideas on that?

update
So to follow up on this. I had to use my wife's water exposed S3 motherboard on my S3. All worked well. I must assume that the wife's screen is bad. I also noticed that this phone drains the battery 2-3 x as fast as it normally would. Anyone have a screen problem do this or is this probable of a screen dysfunction.

annoying auto dim

does this happen to you?
i was playing on my tablet then the screen turn soooo dark
like as if the bright setting is turn all the way down.
i can hardly see to operate, i press the power button then again to login.
but when i check the setting it appear untouch
even after turning off auto brightness.
Mine kinda does this... mine just goes super dark, but i usually just touch the screen or the power button and it brightens back up, just like a laptop getting ready to go into sleep or hibernate mode.
It happens again after I set timeout tok 30 m3inutes
It could be bad lcd, I could not see a thing.
That would suck if it is a bad LCD, but at least it would be under warranty!
This happened to me, I think it is because I had brightness at maximum... I turned the brightness slightly down and it has happened again. But maybe that's just me?

It has a light sensor and auto-adjust capability. I've notice as I move around with mine or change how room light hits it will darken or brighten. Doesn't bother me enough to go looking for some settings to disable it, but there should be some there.
I have the same problem too... everytime I turn off the screen using the power button then turn on again the screen turn very dark when the setting is set to auto brightness... it is very annoying while doing something on the S and went away from a while then come back to use it the brightness is totally so dim...
I'm sorry to say but you guys have a defective unit. Just switch it in right away.
turn off auto brightness.
I contact newegg yesterday but no reply yet.
edit: i call them via phone got my shipping label.
Turning off auto brightness doesnt help, but tuning down the brightness from max down slightly I havent had the issue.
If it happens again ill have to send this back, I feel bad loosing the official siony screen cover.
Byt loosing $30 is better than five ninty-nine us dollars.

The issue describedhappened to my first one which is why I know it. Just re turn it. Its not normal behavior.
It is the Android problem, not Sony. Unless you change OS....

my xperia x10 2.3.3 fw and before that doesn't bug me this much.
if all 3.2 fw tablet does it then i would blames on 3x
go ahead turn on your auto brightness and browse the net in a well lid room.
I have one that is doing the same thing. Also every now and then the screen shuts off and I cant get it to come back on for awhile unless I hold power for like 30 sec. Is this a defective tablet or honeycomb 3.2? Thanks!
I'm telling you guys, I sell the things andI KNOW the issue they are taking about. We played with the settings all day and it kept happening but the issue NEVER happened to any of the other units. It's most likely a defective unit because as I said, it only happened to the one unit.

When i turn it off i can still see a ambient light on even when the phone is completely off. it was never dropped and its not even a year old. can someone tell me what the problem is?
I might sound like a call center rep, but did you restart the phone? When I get weird issues like that, restarting helps.

Flashing White Screen

I was woken last night by a flashing light in my room, the screen on my N10 was cycling between white, black, and backlight off.
The power button would not wake the device, the only thing I could do is hold the power button down until it turned off.
On powering back up, everything was fine and it didn't do it again.
I don't have any apps installed that would cause this, no screen flash notifiers or anything like that, what the hell happened?
I had that happen once, about three weeks ago. Also don't know why, but it hasn't happened again since.

Maybe OP has an Ouija Board app installed on his N10!?!?
Happened to me too
The screen was flashing a monochrome pattern that looked like a TV test pattern. I had to reboot by holding down the power button. It hasn't happened yet. It also went completely black another time and wouldn't respond, I had to reset it that time as well. I was afraid that it was because I bought a reburbished Nexus 10. I'll repost if it happens again.

You bought a refurbished N10? Interesting. I'm curious - how well does it perform? Any issues, other than the aforementioned? I can only afford a refurbished model at the moment, I'm looking at the one currently on eBay buy-it-now 32GB for $430; are the speakers okay? How is the battery life? Solid?
Sorry for derailing the topic, you're just one of the first that I've seen who have bought a refurbished model.
That's probably the memory leak in the graphics driver that some people mentioned (and the crash resulting from it). I had this happening 2 or 3 times on my N10, but only after long uptimes (2-3 weeks). Until it gets hopefully fixed .. reboot more often.
It works well. The speakers sound great, the battery life is pretty good (I use it a lot). It does charge a bit slow, but I may buy the pogo charger.

[Q] LED light never goes off. can i fix it¿

I dropped my phone in the ocean but the flash light was on so I swam down and got it back. I took the battery out and put it in rice but it still wouldn't turn on. So I took it apart and cleaned all the salt out of it and put it back together. Now it works but it still has some issues with the touch screen functioning and for some reason the LED light stays on. Even when the phone is turned off and off the charger and it doesn't change colors for notifications any more. Could I have hooked it back up wrong some how ? Does it matter ie affect anything else/ indicate other problems? Thanks so much for any help you can offer. ?

Samsung Galaxy Alpha Screen problem

Hello everyone, this happened just today. I was using my galaxy alpha AT&T and all of a sudden the screen starting glitching and jumping. I was quite shocked because I bought this phone a few days ago. Although the phone is not brand new but the vendor told me that it's completely fine. Anyhow, I pressed the power button and waited for a few seconds then turned the screen back on. This time the screen was fine but after a few seconds of usage the problem started again. Now i read on the internet that this is not a screen issue but rather its associated with phone's charging port but I'm not sure. And another interesting thing is that the screen shots are completely fine and there are no signs of glitching or flickering. Secondly also note that I was experiencing the famous "cannot charge because battery is too cold!" message and I believe that this problem is also associated with the charging port. So please if anyone is familiar with this problem then guide me. Here a video link that shows what's happening to my screen

If you have the screen on the lowest bright setting the flickering will continue. Once I put it back on auto or at a slightly higher level the flickering went away. That's at least what fixed mine.

I've never had encounter this kind of problem. Your problem is too severe. I think it is related to the hardware.
