Overclocking Moto E - Moto E Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, do you think that the Moto E would be a lot better if it was overclocked to about 1.5ghz, because if I go on antutu it says the cpu is poor, so if it gets overcloked it will be a lot better.
I now get 12927 on antutu, do you think it will make a noticable difference?
Ps: Can't wait for cyanogenmod!!

What is your point here? What do you do after getting a better score in Antutu???
The device is fine and doesn't need any overclocking in my opinion!

Totally agree with you.
Dont know why people go for higher antutu score. It probably said poor processor because it detected snap 200.
The phone is works fine as it is and all the optimizations by moto are superb.

Just as a proof that synthetic benchmarks don't apply in real world usage, watch galaxy s5 vs moto e speed test on YouTube.

How do I overclock my moto e 2015?

No need to overclock. If your device feels laggy, flash stock ROM (NOTHING IS BETTER THAN THAT..CM and all..they all lag). After this, debloat it. Here I am attaching a flashable debloater created by @lost101 and a little bit modified by me.
Modifications:
- Keep FM Radio
- Keep stock Email app
- Keep bootanimation
This script removes all useless Motorola apps except Gallery and Camera and a few other important Moto services. You can disable Motorola Update services manually because it hogs RAM as well but since we know Moto E won't receive any further updates, we don't need it anymore.
This script also removes all Google apps except Playstore and services. Rest of the required apps can be installed via Playstore. These apps hog the system a hell lot.
After debloating and with 200+ apps, I still have 500+ MB of RAM free.

can i use this debloater for Stock Kitkat ???

Hey guys how to use that debloating file attached

Flash the file using TWRP recovery after a fresh install of stock and then wipe cache/dalvik and reboot.
Stock kinda lags without debloating because of excessive Moto and Google apps that love to keep running forever without user's consent.

the TWRP method on unrooted XT1022?

Not every chip is the same. You probably have some settings that you may have missed, and if not just uninstall it and play it normally.
Or, you can try a new rom.
Try clearing up cache and ram before starting teh game. Also did you try to o/c ur phone? It might help .

Where did you get that bull**** from? Nvidia? A CPU or GPU for that matter is NOT designed for gaming even if Nvidia tries to make everyone believe that. A processor interprets and executes commands, regardless of what they are for. Some are faster, others are better at multitasking, others have more commands. However it's safe to say that according to most OpenGL benchmarks Exynos shows Tegra3 it's place.
Also did you try to o/c ur phone? It might help .

Overclocking, if done by an inexperienced user (which should be like 99% of the S3 userbase) causes instabilities and hardware damage.

Never read so much BS in such a short time.
On my Galaxy s3 (int. edition) the games runs f*cking awesome without any lags on max graphic settings. Tegra3 is inefficient and only kinda comparable to the exynos4 chipset.
@topic starter.
I think the problem is the rom, maybe there are some special tweaks, that affect the gameplay experience on your phone in a negative way.
I play on GL8 Off. Rom, only rooted and some useless apps deactivated, without OC or stuff like that. Runs awesome, just like it should.
I would say, try another good rom, with better gaming reputation.
cheers
This might sound like a stupid question but it has happened here A LOT. For some you that have lag... Are you using the US variant and just asking your question here? Anyway I just placed dead trigger without any lag or problems.

Flash 4.3 or wait for KITKAT?

Guys,
I love my G2 with stock rooted rom...but... I know that it can be MUCH better in smoothness terms with 4.3 due to it's native TRIM support.
Big question/s:
1 - Should I wait for 4.4 or should I install 4.3?
2 - Will I be able upgrade 4.3 > 4.4 without full wipe and keep all my apps/settings or full wipe needed?
Thanks!
I just flashed 4.3. I think it's worth it. You can use titanium backup for apps.

No but I only ran it for two days.

Changing the CPU governor to interactive from ondemand made scrolling smoother and made other UI interactions snappier. Monitoring CPU core utilization interactive will use more cores at a lower frequency and ondemand will max out one core first.
And the TRIM support is only a big deal if you're not rooted. Since you are, you can just use the Lagfix app in the market that does the exact same thing. The paid version allows for scheduling.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix
Are you sure trim isn't supported in the stock LG rom? Trim was introduced in 4.3AOSP but that doesn't mean it wasn't supported in older versions.
On my old Gnex, we used an app from the play store to install trim on 4.2.2.
Basically I wouldn't assume trim is not supported. It may not be but its plenty fast enough to not really matter. It may be faster on 4.3+ but I wouldn't flash because of that reason alone.

u can use TiBackup to backup all apps and its data then restore it on the new rom.. it's not that hard..

a bit off topic, if i'm going to use interactive governor should it be coupled with disabling mp-decision?
since mp-decision basically does the same thing as ondemand gov. with the added throttling..
The KitKat update will likely come in less than two months, I'll say no.
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
I would say give a try to all 4.3.1 Roms, when the KitKat rolls out go back to stock and update/ flash the updated firmware.
It's your phone right. Nothing should limit you from experimenting anyway you like.
-LG G2
i just about what you think its better. you should give a try on 4.3
i did, and because of that i prefered a stock based rom than CM
I'm fine with stock and until LG proves themselves ignorant with no upgrade or announcement I'll stick with stock.
I'll give them until the new year, anyway.
If nothing by then I'll actively call them out. Until then I'll just not promote them anymore.
Seems moto eventually got the message from their users. As did Verizon.
Nice thing about Verizon screwing me on the VZW LG G2, if they do, is that I can use a straight talk Sim and move on. I chose this phone to NOT be locked in to VZW. And if LG is lame on updates I'll move on forever from them too. I'll flash the latest android and not look back or buy LG.
Doesn't matter to anyone but makes me feel better declaring it.

Personally the 4.3 Roms are just fine. Ars reviewed kitkat and it was a mixed bag, as Android is still going through a few growing pains, but Google is taking a different approach to many updates through Google Play negating the need for the newest ROM.
i just flashed cm 10.2 and couldn't be happier. all the little lags are gone. performance is superb and battery life is good too.

MotoX 4.4 Dalvik Libs Increase Performance

Some peoples Antutu increased by 3k. Anyone willing to try it out? Can these libs be merged into ROM builds?
Here is the link to the separate bionic and dalvik libraries, instead of the original file which contains both. This link also contains a very nice FAQ.
Also, the new files were modded so it works on CM!

More info. According to this it should work on any rooted android. Maybe because it's 4.4 related we need the latest tarp or clockwork to successfully flash it
http://www.androidbeat.com/2013/11/optimized-dalvik-libraries-improve-nexus-benchmark-scores/
Qualcomm optimized Dalvik libraries boost benchmark scores of Nexus devices
By Rajesh Pandey 7 hours ago.
Google is all set to replace Dalvik with ART (Android Run Time) in the next version of Android. Whatever lag issues that are present in Android currently can be blamed on the use of Dalvik, which compiles app when they are launched compared to ART pre-compiling apps. Comparisons between ART and Dalvik have shown that the former provides much superior performance in apps including lower load times and smoother animations etc.*
Android SoC vendors like Qualcomm have constantly used some proprietary tweaks to speed up Dalvik runtime on their SoCs, which have helped increase scores in benchmarks dramatically. However, since these optimizations are proprietary (closed source), they are not included in the Nexus devices and cannot be used by developers in custom ROMs, because of variations of OEM skins from stock Android. The lack of Dalvik optimizations is also the key reason why the Nexus devices always scored lower in benchmarks compared to offerings from other OEMs.
However, thanks to the Android 4.4 update for the Moto X, Nexus owners can now also enjoy the goodness of these closed source Dalvik optimizations. A senior XDA member, kszaq, has extracted the Qualcomm-optimized Dalvik libraries from the Moto X KitKat update, and repacked it into a CWM flashable ZIP file for Nexus devices.
Initial reports show that post the installation of the optimized Dalvik libraries, the benchmark scores of the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and the Nexus 7 jumps up by a pretty huge margin. The improvements in day to day usage, at least on my Nexus 5, are tough to say. The optimized Dalvik libraries should work on any rooted Android device, that is powered by Qualcomm’s Krait processor. Head over to this XDA thread for the download link.

That's unfortunate I hope we can get this working somehow... From what I'm reading it's an actual performance increase and not just for benchmarks. Maybe because how difficult it was to get our device working it's just not compatible?
Also I don't know if cm11 is deodexed or not but I would assume it is... You're using dalvik and not ART right?
Perhaps I'll flash a Kit Kat ROM this weekend, a different one that's closer to stock aosp and see if out works. I think everyone that's been using it has been on stock deodexed Kit Kat.
Edit: BTW if you have issues you shouldn't need to restore the whole ROM, just either restore the system partition or wipe system and reinstall the ROM.

It appears it doesn't work with the CM11 Nightlies. It's supposed to be for deodexed roms.
Edit:
These libs appear to for Qualcomm Krait processors, which the DNA has. In theory devs should be able to get these libs to work.
The Nexus5 guys love it, dramatic increases in benchmarks and noticeable performance increase.
They have tested it on odexed and deodexed ROMs and confirmed it works. Some guys successfully ran it on beergang and cataclysm ROMs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537299
Okay, I just tested this on Gummy 4.4 and it worked like a charm. For what it's worth, I was using the latest CWM, not TWRP. I also didn't clear dalvik or anything afterwards. Here are the results...
Quadrant Stock:
View attachment 2411154
Quadrant w/ Moto X Dalvik Libs:
View attachment 2411155
As a reference point, engadget's quadrant score was 8,028 when they first reviewed the DNA.
I did wait a little while for the phone to cool off between benchmarks. Sorry, I didn't get a chance to do Antutu or any other tests.
More important than benchmarks, though, is how the phone actually performs. I'm not ready to commit to a kit kat rom just yet, so I didn't use it for too long, but I can say from what little testing I did that it definitely felt much smoother during opening/closing apps compared to stock 4.4. I also tested True Skate (pretty much the only game I play as of lately, if you haven't played it you really need to), which is basically unplayable on AOSP ROMs on anything except the lowest settings, although it works pretty well on medium and high settings on Sense and GPE ROMs. The game is now playable on high settings.
So basically, as I had hoped, this mod is more than just a benchmark booster or a placebo effect, it actually puts my DNA's performance back up to par with Sense ROMs.
Unless I messed something up I just tried applying this update to CM 11.0 4.4 via CWM and got FCs upon bootup. Had to revert to my backup, gonna try Gummy next.

Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I'm pretty sure vanir and beanstalk should both work, they're both aosp based. I just picked gummy because I know it's very very close to aosp. I just wish I knew what it is about cm that makes it not compatible, because that means there will be other Roms that will have the same problem.

Interestingly, it appeared to have no affect for me on Gummy ROM. Tried with stock kernel, CRPalmer's kernel, modified settings, etc. Nothing seemed to make a difference. It's the same score on ART on CM11 or dalvic on CM11/10.2/10.1. Still nowhere near the 10k quadrant I was able to get on stock ROM.
I haven't noticed any change in the speed in using apps either.
I guess it's a YMMV type of thing then. The only time I was ever able to get a 10k quadrant was with [email protected] on Sense 5.

Yeah. I'm not sure why it didn't seem to make any difference for me. Almost like it wasn't really flashing appropriately (even though I attempted many times including reflashing the ROM and the mod multiple times). And, you're right I guess it was with beastmode overclocked that I got 10k. But, currently with AOSP 4.4/4/3 and CM 11/10.2 I get anywhere between 3k's to 4k. Once, got it up to 5k during a random quadrant score testing but that was it. I'm curious though to now how/if other's are able to get it functioning what their procedures and settings are.

Okay, so I've flashed it and straight away I noticed two things.
1. I ran Antutu just to check if the performance has increased since 4.4.2. It has not. I ran it twice and I got around 19000 points. That's a staggering 16000(!) points less than the stock ROM. What's going on? It's almost as low as the Galaxy S3!
2. The DPI is wrong. It's set at 360 DPI which isn't an official supported DPI and it may cause issues for people and apps (Tapatalk is having issues at 360 for example). Either set the DPI to 320 or 400 and let people decide if they want to change it.

Thanks for this great ROM!
It runs very well, I use 240 DPI (my standard setting) and everything looks great. Smooth and stable.
It really made my day!

There's something seriously not right about that, this is my result from the .757 Sony stock ROM, the Nexus/GPE version should be scoring much higher than the stock ROM.
Testing now thanks.
Actually what's new in android 4.4.3? I had no idea
Apparently loads of bug fixes etc seems to be running fine just flashed dpi 320 I can confirm xposed and gravity box work fine on 4.4.3 thanks.

Can you back up that claim? I got 28507 on a GPe device running 4.4.3 stock ROM.
Thanks, nice rom. I just flashed it + 320DPI patch straight over the top of the 4.4.2 GPE rom without wiping and encountered no issues. Didn't touch the baseband either, which must still be at 4.3 level presumably as I have never flashed the Xperia 4.4 roms. :good:

Sorry, that was misleading. I meant that it should score around the same not possibly higher than 19474 and the stock ROM score. I've not run a test on the GPE so can't confirm, I assumed based in the fact that the GPE it typically bloat free and the most "refined" version of Android.
Benchmarks
GPE ROMs always scored lower in Antutu, but at least in 4.4.2 it felt smoother / as smooth as Sony's stock ROM (didn't test 4.4.3 though). Don't know what's the reason for that. It would be good to make the following comparisons:
Antutu score with the "true" GPE device
Antutu score with DooMKernel
If using DooMKernel the score drastically changes, it's a kernel-related thing. On the other hand, if the "true" GPE device (C6806_GPE) scores the same as with the ported ROM, then it's the way things are suppose to be.

My last phone was an Optimus G which scored way higher using Antutu than the Nexus 4 which had the same hardware. LG firmware also outscored custom Roms.

Improved battery with this guy's guide (custom 7.1.1 + tweaks)

Just posted (it's been a while since I last posted) to share this guy's guide which improved my battery big time. No screenies yet for my batt stats but I can surely say it has improved for me.
I normally have about 3-4 SOT, but after trying this guide, it gave me about 3hr SOT @ about 50%. So here's the link

That's pretty rad. I'm impressed.

No, and I probably won't. My bootloader isn't even unlocked and I'm still on marshmallow. It got to be too much a pain in the butt to update my custom ROM on my last phone so I have never even bothered with it on this one.
Plus that also loses an important feature that I care about, Android pay.

In ninja kernel not existence
To find hawktail. U need ex kernel manager. At the menu go to cpu, then to governor options, then up at the top to load. You can select all kinds of profiles.
The ninja kernel it's now call flash also there are many different governor settings now it's all trial and error and what settings best works for your usage ..... Look for the advance interactive tweaks thread all is in there ....

Look guys, you don't have to do all those steps esp switching to f2fs, which is by the way a pain in the ass for me. It kept throwing "decryption password" error for me, so I skipped that part and that includes the installing of custom bootloader. The most important step there is the last step (14.) Installing ninja kernel + ex manager, tweaking ex manager, using leandroid.
Another battery crap thread??...jeez
Enviado desde mi Nexus 6P mediante Tapatalk
Hey, I'm the one who made the thread! After using F2FS and comparing it to my GF's 6P with the same rom and tweaks but EXT4, I can confirm F2FS does not increase performance, and may have a slight effect on battery. I recommend staying with EXT4.
i have seen that on reddit already, i so want to try it out !
I try it but in the 8 and 9 step when i have to flash to F2fs i don't have this option to format. Help??? I use the last versión of cortex rom and elementalx
Know i can flash system and data, but cache make error and i can't reboot system
