Just a quick question - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have an s4 still with the mdk version but it has some issues. My proximity sensors are bad I have issues waking the phone during calls, this only seems to happen in cm based or aosp based Roms (I don't know why) so my question is. I'm thinking of Odin back to stock and getting a replacement. I'm sure its going to arrive with the nc5 update. To my understanding the newest update is rootable right???

Try to odin back to mdk, reroot and install a new rom via loki. For someone with mdk you are giving up to easy, and won't get any sympathy from us on any build past mdk. On root for nc5 you can find that info with some basic common sense and reading comprehension.

You have dust on the sensor under the screen. You can blow some air through the top speaker to clear it out or take te phone apart and do it that way. It's a hardware problem not software.

Blowing air into the speaker is not a recommended method. Its very easy to damage the speaker. To determine its a hardware problem type *#0*# in your dialer. A diagnostic menu will appear. Then press sensor. Now move your hand near the proximity sensor and the phone will vibrate and the screen will turn green. If this does not happen then your hardware is bad or something's blocking it. If it does then its a software issue. I know this diagnostic menu is present on almost all Touchwiz builds and many aosp roms. Let me know if this helps.

I tried dialing *#0*# and all I get is "Verizon cannot complete this called"
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

There's a known software issue with this phone and the proximity sensor on aosp roms . Some new aosp builds have a feature to force the screen on after a call.
Getting a replacement is pointless, you'll still just be limited to touchwiz then anyway.

You need to be on a rom that has the HiddenMenu.apk in it. Go into system/app and look to see if it's in there. If not then you need to flash a rom that has this apk. I'd go with a TW most have this. Once on one that has this apk then go to efs/carrier long press on the HiddenMenu text file and choose open in text editor (I'm using Root Explorer) change OFF to ON then reboot. After reboot open dialer then type *#0*# and follow @Unfathomable instructions.

[Guide] MiniTAB ROM based off of Galaxy Tab 10.1

THIS GUIDE IS OUTDATED
PLEASE GO HERE
------------------------------------------------------------
There was a bounty going on in general to get his ROM working. So any interested dev's may be interested in claiming the bounty.
I wrote a quick guide on how to get the ROM working on our devices.
Credit goes to all the people in the original threads below who created the various parts. They are the ones who deserve the credit -- I only cobbled the the necessary steps together in a guide -- their work made it possible.
Mods - Apologies if this is not okay to post in the Android Development forum.
------------------------------------------------------------
Original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2215752
------------------------------------------------------------
Before we begin, you are doing this at your own risk.
[begin]
Download these files:
(ROM) & (DPI Fix) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261818
(Modem) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40974758&postcount=2
(Patch) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232516
(Kernel) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2154378
Do these steps IN ORDER:
Make sure you are on TWRP 2.5.0.0
Add ROM to zip queue
Add MODEM to zip queue
Add PATCH to zip queue
Add KERNEL to zip queue
Add DPI FIX to zip queue
Flash queued zip files
Reboot
It will take your phone about five to seven minutes to boot
You will receive some FC's and other errors, ignore them.
Complete the setup wizard
Download ROM Toolbox from the play store
In ROM Toolbox, go to the second tab (swipe to the left) and open the build.prop editor.
Swipe right, select DPI and change it to 160
Save the changes and reboot when prompted
Once rebooted, you are running the minitab ROM
Bugs:
-Keyboard is misaligned
-Occasional FC's
-You can only open the settings menu by placing a settings WIDGET on the desktop
Tips:
-Use Titanium Backup to freeze the Sprint voicemail app so it doesn't keep popping up
Update:
What works:
-Boot
-Touch screen
-Sound
-Cellular voice & data
-WiFi
-GPS
-SystemUI (fixed)
What doesn't work:
-Settings.app > must launch via a WIDGET on the home screen, NOT, a shortcut.

Dont worry about it there already in the port, You will probably have to use a contacts.apk from one of your stock roms, Im sure I will attempt to fix this but its going to be a few days because of work. I was going to do this yesterday but the OP seems to have disappeared, Probably because he flashed the sprint version =/
Sprint version works fine I've been running it for 4 days now all fcs are gone except settings still working on that

People having trouble need to make sure your build prop is accurate.

The major difference is that you can "beam" your cards to the laser scanner. Other apps like Keyring only work with optical scanners which are only in select retailers. This app will work with all of scanners at retailers.

As I understand it, it uses the proximity sensor, not the IR blaster. ASOP has a working proximity sensor.

Yea I know it uses the proximity sensor but I was wondering if asop even supported either. Mobeam claims the s4 is the only phone to support this even though other galaxy phones have a front facing infrared sensor. I know the s4 has two infrared sensors on either side of the ear piece. Maybe mobeam uses both sensors and asop only has software to use one? I'm just exploring all possibilities. Lol.

Well guys, I noticed Rootlinux commented in here and he's been running Swiper's black cm for a while. I don't think he would be this kind nor speak of the animations if this was not permitted by Swiper. IJS.
This ROM is running very nice and smooth

If it doesn't, then just flash Cap's APN fix and GPS fix. If this is anything like Swiper's blackCM then that should do the trick
It will work.
It might already be baked in. See above

Couldn't get GPS to work.

Works for me.
Try Caps GPS fix over it.
The fix should be baked in but flashing the GPS fix won't break anything.
GPS didn't work for me out of the box either. Flashing the fix worked though.
Works just fine for me. Google maps found the cracks of my ass just like it usually does..

It's not that I don't believe you.
I flashed yesterday, and it's a very nice Rom BTW, but couldn't get GPS to work. So, I backed up, restored, Bareback, did profile and prl, because they are working on the towers here, but GPS lock, opened Navigation and set a course, then restored your rom.
Still didn't work. Don't know.
And I was having problems with your debloated gapps on Carbon, and another rom, but it works great with your rom....except for keyboard swipe.
I know you have additional gapps, but was just saying that it worked fine.

I don't use Swipe but swipe gestures work on Ultra Keyboard, TouchPal and others.
Not sure why it wouldn't work on Swipe.

If I click thanks, will you shorten your sig?
(sorry, thats just me being a jerk. ignore it.)
OK, real talk. Carbon-ROM would be a fantastic addition to our choices. I second the notion.

Looks like they have a universal build up in the original development section over on the international forum. Haven't tried it myself but noticed it was there.

Edit: I went ahead and flashed this and it DOES boot up. I am on the new kitkat bootloader leaked by freeza though so I can not verify anything on jellybean. I have been messing around with it for a few minutes now and no issues that I have come across. Here is a link to the page with the download if anyone else is interested. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2630134&page=20

Just flash the universal build along with your favorite GAPPS package, no additional steps necessary...
Make sure you do a full wipe, for the best possible outcome

In prefer slim gapps myself since they are inverted but you could use pa gaps as well. Just make sure they are for 4.4 before you download them.

I personally use "Banks Gapps" Google them if u like
Do we need to upgrade from 4.3 to 4.4 to flash this? If so can we go back to 4.3? Seems I read that the 4.4 bootloader is unlocked but then I see where some people on 4.4 are saying they can't go back. Things are moving so fast now that I can't keep up. When it rains it pours but loving all the new toys. One more...does the rom have to be universal to flash on sprint or will htlexx work? On t-mobile s4 I could flash Verizon att and t-mobile roms with no issues. Haven't had a cdma phone in years. Thanks to any one who can provide some insight.
