Mirror screen question.. - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Accessories

Hello, Can anyone recommend a wireless hub/set-top box that allows the note pro 12.2 to wirelessly mirror is screen?
My father in law wants to watch movies that are on his tablet on his TV but the TV is quite cheap so I don't think it has an mcl hdmi port (unless anyone knows of a cable that works in a standard hdmi port.)
I was looking at the Samsung allshare cast hub but the reviews state that the audio is awful so it won't be a good fit for watching movies.
Any recommendations?
Thanks.

If all he wants to do is mirror his screen, a $40 Samsung MHL adapter (the larger white one) will do the job. You will see a lot of knockoffs for much less. Some work just fine, some don't work at all. The ones that do work don't always charge the battery. The one I have works great, has the Samsung logo on it, but doesn't charge the battery. The box didn't have the hologram on it and for what I paid it's not worth my time and shipping cost to return it. I have an all in one dongle on the way that costs $14.50 and should arrive by next Wednesday. Another member here suggested it and thinks it should work with all the Note and Tab Pros.

OK thanks for the info.. Do mhl adapters work on any TV with hdmi? The TV in question has hdmi but is one of those no name brands (LEGEND) .. Thanks again

I can't confirm it'll work on a Legend, but it should. My crappy clone works on a Vizio, Samsung, and an Emerson.

That's the one I use

I use the all share dongle all the time and I have never had a problem. I've watched full movies and TV from a sling box with it hooked up to a projector. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones but so far has worked with galaxy note3, tab pro 8.4 and my 12.2.

Good MHL to HDMI cable?

With the news of XBMC coming to Android I feel I gotta invest in one of these cables hahaha. Anyone test any out yet? I see a bunch on amazon but I'd like to hear from someone who has the same phone.

Is it cutting out at all? all of the ones I found on amazon have at least a couple people saying that they cut out every once in a while.

Mine has never cut out. And is pretty much lag free. Just wish I could say the same for the medialink HD.

Just wanted to reiterate here. Bought three of these, used em with 4 HTC phones, work great, no problems.
The ones they sale at the TMobile store work good also.
Another +1 for the Monoprice link..
Ya just ordered it. Thanks!
get the media link from HTC. It's around $50-70 but it is wireless and has an hdmi port on it. Supports 1080p and it reflects the phone entirely on the tv.

YES.
According to the description on the monoprice site, the adapter has a micro-USB charging port on the side of the adapter.
I bought this one from Amazon since I have prime:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006V7F380/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
I have to have the regular usb power cable plugged into it for it to work with my TV and that charges my phone.
So it can also function as a 6ft power extender for charging if you don't use the HDMI part.
Happy with it for the price.
I have the HTC MHL adapter and I'm getting CRAZY lag when I play video games. I'm thinking it's sense, but I'm hoping it's the adapter.
Can any of the guys who bought an MHL cable try playing an nes/snes/genesis emulator while plugged in to the TV?
ya I'm getting a bunch of lag while playing HD video and audio cutting out with the Monoprice
update: seems that was a player issue? Was using MX player. Now I'm using Dice and and no lag.
monoprice....got that and a bright yellow hdmi cord for dirt cheap.
Anyone knows if those cables work on AOSP roms (cm10)?

Mhl hdmi adapter issues. Help please!

I have purchased 2 MHL adapters to use my NOTE on one of my 3 HD tvs. I own a Toshiba, Sharp Aquos, and a Vizio. All have the same problem. Sometimes it works for a minute. Sometimes it take a minute and works for a few seconds sometimes it doesn't work at all. Is there something I can put on my NOTE or a setting I can change on my NOTE or TVs that makes these things work? I don't want to dump money on a Samsung brand dock if I'm gonna have the same issue. I have tried with short HDMI cords and long ones. I bought a 20ft HDMI cord specifically so I could sit on the couch and use it for Netflix, movies, music, and/or games for my kids to play. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

MHL for xperia tablet z?

The mhl port on this tablet has a weird shape to it, I can't fit my 11 pin mhl cable that works with my galaxy note 2 into the port.
Does anyone know if the xtz uses a 5 pin port? Or can anyone point me to an mhl cable that's compatible with this tab?
Thanks

The tablet Z uses the 5 pin mhl. I have one and it works fine.
the 11 pin mhl should at least fit at the port is just a standard microusb / mhl port, which you would also use for charging and data transfer.
It might fit, I didn't try to hard out of fear of damaging the port. The 11 pin plug has this indent that is supposed to prevent you from sticking it in a normal micro usb port

but sony mhl adaptor IM750 has only added advantage, it's cec compatible, ie, you can control the phone ( every mhl xperia phone) or tablet ( not confirmed or verified by anyone yet), via tv remote, you can do almost anything apart from call the phone
basically with cec compatible, you can use the phone or tablet as a media player with no hassle, I had working via dk22 dock for xperia tx, micro hdmi via xperia arc before that.
IM750 is the non dock version, Samsung official mhl adaptor ( whether for s2, s3 or mhl2 standard s4 - not confirmed) is not cec compatible.
I bought cheap 5 pin mhl adapter from ebay. I can't post link jet.
It is For Samsung Galaxy S2 HTC/Nexus/Note but it won't work with my tablet z. Mhl icon appears on my tablet status bar but tv is black- no picture no sound.
I use original charger to power mhl adapter and i did everything like in youtube sony offical mhl tutorial videoideo with tanja
Any ideas why others work galaxy s2 adapter?
Spg321, android 4.2.2 stock non rooted
also bought a fosmon adaptor from ebay for the tab it work ok but the output display side bars on my TV. (tried it on two different HDTV) The TV is set for 1080p. I got in the service menu and force test MHL video to 1920x1080p and still have the side bars ?????
May the problem be caused by fact that my tv is not fullHD, it is 720p?
Item description from ebay:
Supports all audio and all resolutions up to 1080p

Hercules (T-Mobile), SPH-D710 Epic 4G Touch Sony
Ericsson: Xperia Arc X12
I bought the Samsung Galaxy S II MHL HDTV Adapter and although it works it is not a good fit for the tablet and puts pressure on the port cover. I have not used it much so have not replaced it but if I was using it regularly I wouldn't be happy with Samsung's offering.

MHL Cable/Adaptor Recomendation

Hi,
Does anyone on this forum use their Z2 over MHL?
I was wondering what MHL Cable / Adaptor you would recomend.
I have seen a Sony one, but is is very expensive (£30).
I was wondering what the thoughts on the cheaper ones were.
Thanks
in Advance.
Anyone got any recommendations for this? I too am interested.
Bought this from Maplin today ( for us with my HTC one. Tablet Z and Z2 ) so will report back when I've had time to test

I bought this:
amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CI42C4S/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
which works perfectly but on my TV requires a separate power source for the MHL.
I've been using a Rocketfish MHL adapter for the appradio in the wifey's car until I can get an adequate mirrorcast dongle.
I haven't had any issues with it. It also comes with a 11 pin adapter for newer Samsung devices.
The Samsung branded 5 pin MHL adapters should also work and be found in stores(they had them at my local Bestbuy along with the Rocketfish I bought).
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking to do, but maybe some sort of cast dongle might be a better option.
For streaming I like using chromecast best(there's 3rd party ones that support chromecast/mirrorcast/DLNA/airplay in one unit). The user experience is much nicer with chromecast but you're limited to using apps with cast icons and a wireless network(mirrorcast/dnla don't require this).
For screen mirroring a straight HDMI cable works best but not even Motorola puts HDMI ports on their devices anymore. MHL adapters work for the most part just as well but can have more failure points and compatibility issues. I haven't tried mirrorlink yet(I do have a new appradio that supports mirrorlink as well as HDMI but it's still in the box) but from what I under stand it's not as fast as HDMI and may give noticeable lag.

Does anyone own, or have tried a USB-C to HDMI adapter/converter for the G5?

Just curious if the G5 supports wired-display-out since the G5 still has features that competitors have dropped. Supposedly the G4 still had it despite competitors giving up on it, but USB Type C supports display, so USB Type-C to HDMI converters and adapters are a thing.
Just curious if G5 kept wired display-out since the G5 also kept the removable battery and IR blaster.
I too am curious about this. I've been hoping that since the G5 is able to send 3D video to the 360 VR that it would also support standard hdmi as well, but that may or may not be the case.
It bugs me that phones seem to be dropping wired video out options in favor of wireless/chromecast. I mean I like the chromecast and all, but I'd still like the option of a wired dock - Windows phones with Continuum sound pretty cool - and I'm still hopeful we'll be able to do something similar with Ubuntu on our phones someday, but the disappearance of wired options for video out concerns me in this regard. I know wireless is the future, but I don't like losing wired as a fallback option.

I don't get mine until Friday (uk) but it seems it does :
( I can't post links )search YouTube for "Coms USB C to HDMI LG G5"
No idea what he is saying though!
I believe the VR unit connects thru it too, so as that is 2 screens, it makes sense.
Can't find many (any?) Usb-c to HDMI adapters. Would a micro-usb adapter do with a cheap microusb-c converter?

Looks like it does, but there's at least some output lag; it's not perfectly in-sync between phone and HDMI tv. That will be a little disappointing.

Yes I have one and it works perfect 4 HDMI out to your TV set the one I bought was the Apple dongle for the HDMI out from their laptops and again it works perfect very pleased with the performance

I use a device called a netgear ptv 3000. It is used as a Mira cast device. Well, it used to be called Mira cast on phones. Now it's called screen sharing. I think it's actually been called screen sharing since KitKat or lollipop. Either way, I've used this with a Nexus 4, Nexus 5, g2, note 5, and the g5. The latency is bad on the note 5, but almost prefect with the other phones. It will display anything you have on your phone to the TV wirelessly. You just plug it in to the HDMI and a power outlet, activate screen sharing on the G5 and you're good to go. A negative side is that you can't put your phone to sleep so it could kill the battery faster. A way to prolong the battery is by putting the brightness all the way down on the screen of the phone. It won't effect the brightness on the TV. One last thing, when you first get the ptv3000. Be sure to update the device before you try and use it or it won't work. The udate is necessary. There's instructions on how to do update in the box. I got mine for around $40 a couple years back. Hope this helps. Peace.

to be honest.. chromecast is doing extremely well so far on my G5.
this thread is about physical connection to the tv / beamer though.
My bad. Just throwing out an idea.. Nevertheless, the netgear is nice because you don't need Wi-Fi like Chromecast to use it and it mirrors everything..
