Stock roms - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I will be doing this thread soon for all the carriers roms for the Galaxy s4. I think it would be best if I combine all my s4 rom threads to one...just stock roms all the way from this point on.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6&postcount=11
(STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
This needs to happen. I have many people still looking for Vision X for Verizon, TMO also, so, I will just build stock roms for all these carriers....
We do not need development dropping off from this device for awhile, I will do my part to keep it rolling here....
It will only list the most current roms for the devices, so out with old, in with new, that will be the process....

[Q] Future prospects of development?

Hey,
So I currently have a Motorola Atrix that I love but am selling today. I want to switch to the i777 because of better future development. The locked bootloader that the Atrix had at launch didn't help matters, although we now have CM7, MIUI, and some CM7-based ROMs. However, how far behind is the i777 from i9100 development? In other words, if the i9100 got stable CM9, for example, how long would it take us to port that?
Also, how long do you think strong development (like I see there is now) will last? For example, Captivate development is still going strong (considering they have multiple builds of ICS). Will it be anything like that?
I'm only wondering because there is a somewhat hefty price jump between a used Atrix and a used i777 which I am willing and able to make, but only if development will be strong for at least another year. How likely do you think that will be?
Just as a note, I'm not asking you guys if I should buy the i777. I'm just asking what you think development will be like a year from now, and how close we are to the i9100 development. I already read about the hardware differences between the i777 and i9100 (NFC, FM radio, home button, etc.)
Thanks a lot,
vinay427
Dev community is at about same level that the captivate was when it came out.
As for i9100 port of cm9 or any other 4.0 roms it's a matter of kernel sources being available. I've messed with kernels recently, but entropy would be the brains for that job.
Anyhow, going from your current phone to this phone will be a night and day difference.

Once kernel sources come out for ICS, we should be able to get most functions ported in a week or two. The main issue is the audio libraries - we might need some workarounds for call audio.
The other question is whether Samsung breaks the modem interface - if ICS requires new modems we might have a problem. However at least on the Infuse, modem interfaces didn't change at all from Froyo to Gingerbread.
This means that we won't be able to do much with ICS leaks for the I9100 though - we won't be able to do much until official kernel sources come out with the official release.
Yes, ICS poses some challenges for the devs here. We will get ICS through a i9100 port months, if not quarters, before we see leaks or anything official from att.
As far as gingerbread, any i9100 ROM should run on the i777. There is a "Hellraiser" package that will replace the appropriate files to make the ROM work fine.
As you said the captivate is still going strong, the i777 is the next captivate. It will be the best flagship Android phone on att until a Galaxy S III version comes over. (Unless we get a note by some miracle. Also the Galaxy Nexus could be around the corner.) If they follow the same cycle, thats fall 2012 for the att version. We can only hope att meddles with that version as little as they did the i777. I would bet there is another half upgrade between here and then (like the infuse), but, I doubt it will pull significant amounts of devs from this phone.

Ok, thanks a lot guys! There's about a $120 jump from the i777 to the i9100, and I simply can't justify that. I considered the Skyrocket (as does everyone..) and removed it from my list due to a certain lack of development, which is why I was switching in the first place. Same with the Vivid and Nitro HD. There seems to be the most hope for the i777 out of the current AT&T line. Look for me on the i777 forums soon (hopefully)!

What's wrong with this tab?

How come the vzw tablet will not load any rom except those made specifically for it? I'm willing to lose 3G/4G connectivity but no rom will load past the Samsung sign. The European 3G tablet can load any rom but it will lose mobile data if the rom isn't built for it, how come the vzw tab doesn't work this way?

I live in the Fremont area and would much rather have an lte tab. Want to trade my wifi tab for your vzw tab?
I'm far from an expert, just a user who loves rooted android devices but I'd venture to guess that the fact that Pershoot developed separate kernels for various models of Galaxy Tab 10.1's is an indication that at some fundamental level these things are different.
It'd be interesting to see if there's a way to take the ROMs being distributed for other models and modify them prior to flashing in order to make them compatible with our device. I just don't know how to do this personally.
Sadly, no developers have the LTE model so we're stuck with rooted stock.
I would think though that short of the theme part of many of the popular ROMs there shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't modify a stock LTE device to conform to the changes these ROMs have. It just takes a lot of work compared to flashing a prebuilt one . .
There are hardware differences between the LTE and Wifi versions of the tabs, which means that they run on different kernels. As Muzzy was saying, the developers would need to develop a kernel and a LTE-specific Rom for the VZW tab. It's unfortunate, but that's what happens when a carrier gets into a device, they have the manufacturer "customize" the build. I'm sure some devs will be getting into the LTE tab soon enough, or at least someone will port another dev's work from another tab to the vzw version.

Say I wasn't worried about 3G/4G, if I get a lte kernel, do you think the wifi only kangs will work? Currently it will load but it will not go past the Samsung screen

In order to give a definitive answer I would have to look through the differences in how Kangs and the VZW rom handle radios, but I'd venture to say probably not. Usually the roms have to be ported from one device to another in order to account for the differences in hardware. This is the case with the Samsung Nexus S and the Nexus S 4G. They have nearly identical hardware, (except for the radios,) and while they share an OS, (Gingerbread,) you can't flash a Nexus S rom to a Nexus S 4G. Sorry.

[Q] Can i9300 ROMs be flashed on AT&T/Bell i747?

I'm fairly sure someone has asked this question, but I couldn't find anything in search anywhere.
Is this possible? A lot of people are getting excited about the North American version of the phone, but there is little information about using any variation of the S3 firmwares on any S3.
This would really suck because all the development is happening on the I9300, so we don't get much development attention or flavours of ROMS.
No. And give it a few days/weeks, we'll have a ****-ton of development. 75% of the people don't even have their phones yet.
Again, NO. And if the S3 is like the Note, trying to flash an international ROM on a US phone will turn your pretty new phone into a paperweight (aka hard brick).
Thanks for clearing that up. I did forget about the fact that NA providors will only be carrying the NA variant which is probably a larger audience therefore more exposure to development.
:victory:
no... do NOT flash an I9300 rom until a developer releases a post, and dont worry. most developers dont have their phones yet, and within a couple of weeks, there will be lots of ports for roms like Omega, AOKP, CM9 ParanoidAndroid, etc

[Q] Has any devs started on ports for the Galaxy S2 SGH-S959G Model?

I recently brought the Galaxy S2 from Straight Talk. And, I thought that it was on ICS already. But, its still running GB. I've been flashing, and testing roms on the sly for a while for my previous phones. HTC Droid Eris, HTC Evo 4G Design, Motorola Defy. And, I know there are different models of certain phones. I hadn't realized until I purchased the phone, and looked at the model number that it was different from the mainstream S2 models. I figured that it wouldn't be a factor since in my mind. Just about all S2 no matter the model number are the same. I was wrong.
In my search for anything about this model. I have came to many consumers who brought this phone that was looking for custom roms. That there aren't any custom roms for it, or CWM Recovery. And, we're stuck with this great phone, and crap stock. I know myself, and many people who own this phone either is just sticking with stock, or on the hunt.
So as the topic of this forum thread indicates. Is any devs going to port over CWM or some Roms for this model? If there is can anyone steer me to it.

DNA and Butterfly Roms

Hi there i was thinking of getting one of the two but i can't really decide and was wondering if it was possible to flash DNA roms on Butterfly since they're pretty much the same except for LTE?
It's not like on the HTC One where Roms between versions are so universal and you can go back and fourth. Honestly if you're wanting to flash Roms id consider buying the next step up, an HTC One since it's this late in the game. However, I have a one and I use my DNA a lot because there are some great roms. It's a really nice device, due completely to the development community.

I would think that ROMs for the two devices are most likely NOT completely backwards compatible, due to slight differences between the DNA/J Butterfly/DLX. If your educated in this kind of stuff, it probably wouldn't be that hard for you to port a Butterfly ROM to the DNA, and vice versa. Just don't expect a flawless bug-free experience with a ROM not even for your phone.
Keep in mind, the DNA and J-Butterfly are not identical. It's like the difference between the Samsung Fascinate and a Galaxy S i9000. The Fascinate is based on the i9000, but there are slight design tweaks that separate them.

honestly it would not be prohibilitively hard to make a universal zip for roms between the butterfly variants and the dna, but w/o both devices (at least one butterfly variant and the dna) to test stuff and ensure compatibility most people wont want to do it
some devs might be ok w/ doing it blindly, others dont usually want to be bothered, especially since the butterfly has such a small (relatively) speaking root community that its not worth the extra effort
both the dna and butterfly are hard to find in my country so the moment i find either, then im going to buy it. I wish i could afford htc one but i cant afford it right now so i'll have to choose between the two. Im just sick of stock android and want to try something else but it wouldnt bother to havrthe option to install cyanogen mod whenever i want.
