[11/02][DEV][ROM][4.4.4] CyanogenMod 11.0 for Samsung Express (GT-I8730) - Samsung Galaxy Express GT-I8730 ROMs, Kernels, Rec

This ROM is for the International GT-I8730 ONLY! It is NOT for the SGH-I437! Just because Samsung named them both "Express" does not mean they have identical internal hardware!
CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.4.4 (KitKat), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Code:
#include <std_disclaimer.h>
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review.

Reporting Bugs
You are allowed to report bugs only in this thread. Before reporting a bug, please make sure you are running as stock as possible. This means no custom kernel, no custom framework modification, etc. If you are using any of the above modifications, please flash the rom again to get rid of the modifications before reporting.
If you're having issues like these:
-Phone reboots randomly.
-Phone blacks out, and you have to force shut down/remove and put the battery back in for it to turn on again. (This problem doesn't happen when it's plugged in though)
-No Audio AT ALL.
-No calling works, phone also sticks/freezes when you try to make or accept a call, there is a blank screen. When the call does go though, neither you or the other person can hear.
-No video plays either, test with youtube if you're unsure about this one.
-Several apps/features that attempt to play audio crashed and freezes.
Try this (thanks to @toxious651):
1. Factory reset current rom and clean cache.
2. Download and install this entire firmware using ODIN (make sure you use this specific firmware):
http://samsung-updates.com/details/16541/Galaxy_Express/GT-I8730/KPN/I8730XWAMK1.html
Note: I recommend you use the terafile.co link, to download, scroll to the bottom under "Free" and click a link that says "Regular", close the popup, enter the captcha when the countdown is done and click "Create Download Link".
3. Check if audio, calling, and playing videos work after installing that firmware. If they do, then continue to do the remaining steps.
4. DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR FLASH THE BASEBAND IN THE OP. The firmware I gave in step 2 covers that. This is important, do not use that baseband as it is probably the source of your problem.
4. Root the phone
5. Install clockworkmod recovery
6. Factory reset and clean cache
7. Install CM11 Zip
REPORT BUGS IN THIS THREAD ONLY
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. The following is a useful format to follow.
Code:
What is your--
Phone model:
Radio (baseband):
CM version:
CM Download url:
Gapps version:
Did you--
wipe:

I can't, KK needs many, many changes in the kernel, and I can't add them to a 4.1 kernel properly. But, I have another idea!

Mobile data also broken Logcat:

Can confirm the audio bug on mine as well, did a wipe + cache wipe before CM installation. Didn't touch any CM settings. Mine is a non branded GT-I8730 bought on amazon.de

EDIT: Fixed

is anyone who can not access the internet after turning on the mobile data? I am using GSM sim
I have tried *#*#4636#*#* many times, 2G mode seems not able to access the internet for GSM. Anyway, no matter how I repeat turning on and off the radio for each mode, it always shows the GPRS disconnected.
I do think APN is OK, i use the default values which i compare with other friends' APN setting
Please help with this, I check online a lot, but no useful information
Thanks!

do you mean you can access the internet through the mobile data (not wifi)? I changed another CMDA sim card, it has the same issue. It is really boring that the reason can not be found

Hmmm let me try and see if the same thing happens to me
Edit, nope Verizon HTC one does not do it...
What's happening is something is wiping your dv cache or regular cache on every boot... Did you use titanium backup? You could try wiping your caches in recovery ... Anyone else have this problem?

Mine doesn't do it either. Did anyone read the post about how changing the device in build.prop from m7att to m7 the front facing camera is fixed. I can confirm there is no hue. Just an FYI.

Hmmmm.... I did not but good to know... I don't think I have a blue hue prob but I'll change it and see if the pics are the same
Edit: So I took a front pic of my face and then changed ro.product.device from m7vzw to m7, rebooted, and took a picture.... Poof nice clear photo...
So (I think) I changed ro.product.device at the source code level, and I'm building a test ROM now... I'll let you guys know what's up

my guess is a conflict between helium and 4.3.1, or possibly something you have set inside helium... a setting perhaps
truth is i hate all those auto backup apps, i think they are the devil and cause way more problems than time they save... just pick and chose what data you want to back up from the /data folder and re- add when you wipe... and you only have to do that when switching roms...
just my personal opinion....
on a side note, UPDATES
UPDATES
Trying to switch from cmw to twrp through goomanager it says no recovery for your device. Not sure if it had anything to do with goo or the rom.

CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo and Device Tree for Kumquat is here Github repo.Feel Free to Contribute and Help in this Project .

GENERAL COMMENT AND REQUEST:
We ask all the regular contributors here to please answer the "xxx is broken" or "yyy force closes" statements without an attached logcat with something like "LOGCAT or it didn't happen"
Feel free to be creative but DO NOT respond with wipe cache/clear data or any other attempted solution before the reporting user has taken the trouble to actually try to help solve the problem (e.g. by attaching a logcat, detailed steps to reproduce etc.).
We need to force more discipline in how issues are reported which will help us all find and squash bugs that may exist.
Just clearing data etc. may in fact cause us to never find the bug that caused the issue and just makes for lazy users.

-wifi power saving though rfkill when turned off
Release-8:
[B][U]Changes:[/U][/B]
- sync latest cm-10.2 (yes there were actually changes, whatever they did)
- Bluetooth works to some extend
- included Japanese IM
Release-9:
Changes:
- update cm-10.2 (did not even check if there were actually changes)
- led bar fixed for notifications, built from source.
- bluez 5.14 final (does not help, but anyway)
- alsa 1.0.20 (my builds were with 1.0.19 before)
About bluetooth:
- I was able to pair with another android device, also I was able to send files from the gallery by sharing them via bluetooth in both directions.
- I was not able to use my headset. It was not recognized as an audio device.
- Sometimes bluetooth crashes and wont turn on. I had this one when pairing with my headset and then pushing on it in the list of paired devices right after it. If that happens go to Settings->Apps->All and force kill Bluetooth. Now bluetooth will turn on again.

Dang. Have they added quick settings customization yet? I'm pretty happy on 4.3 Slim right now, but now you're tempting me with 4.4 once again.
HTC seems pretty on the ball for 4.4 though, so I'm hoping we can get something official soon that'll help work out our device's AOSP kinks, pending Verizon certification (multiple expletives deleted).

No quick settings is not yet implemented.
This and slimkat are the most feature rich 4.4 ROMs currently. Your favorite ROM is working quite well with 4.4 on my DNA
Its also having same issue i.e CAMERA
Will be uploading it soon

Can you add the TWRP recovery that was updated yesterday in the CM11 thread? It works fine.
Outside of the mods, is there any difference between this and the other 4.4 ROM in terms of stability and performance?

I had the same problem with this and another ROM. Try this
1.Wipe Data/Factory Reset
2.Format the following:
/data
/system
/cache
/dalvik
Do not format /sdcard
3.Flash ROM and reboot
4. After first boot to home screen change sim settings to sim, not NV
5.Boot to recovery. Flash gapps. Wipe cache and dalvik.
6. Reboot.

You might try the trick mentioned in the unofficial 4.4 thread. My recollection (see that thread for full details):
go into data settings
using dropdown menu - enable airplane mode
disable data
verify RUI/SIM setting (think)
using dropdown menu - disable airplane mode
enable data

Yeah, I had it all worked out on CM11. Data was working fine. I did all the tricks mentioned. After about 15-20min, it finally connect to data. I am however using the updated TWRP. Thanks guys, just took a while for data to connect.

The camera app was missing for me from the app drawer. I tried the camera from the lockscreen and it didn't even show a live preview. I restored back to CM11 since that 4.4 ROM is pretty much bug free. But as far as I can tell so far with this ROM data is wonky and no camera..... didn't test much else.

I guess i turned into a noob over night..
I can not get this to take. cm-11-20131116-unofficial.zip, it hangs then i loose boot.. Good for me, that i have a backup.
I downloaded cwm recovery 4.0.4, but it's not compatible with viperDna 4.2.2......
I have twrp v2.5...
Golden question, What is a noob to do?
Thanks
So far so good. updated my TWRP to the one from CM11 thread. Installed fine. Typical temp grief from TB, reinstalled SuperSU and pointed it to correct backup folder. Google launcher works, but doesnt have voice output. im playing with the settings now to try and fix. Also installed CRpalmers kernel to see how it takes.
So does everyone have data working consistently? Calls, texts, WiFi all work fine, i just can't get data to work at all even after all the how to fixes.

After fighting with data for hours I gave up and went back to cm11.

[ROM][Unofficial][4.4.2] CyanogenMod 11.0 Nightlies for Mega 6.3

CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.4 (KitKat), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Code:
#include
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at us for messing up your device, we will laugh at you.
*
*/
All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit our Gerrit Code Review. Your changelog is whatever was merged into gerrit.

What is not working:
- You tell me
Credits
- arco68:
Thank you for all your work on S4 mini and msm8930 platform and thanks for holding the kernel source up to date! Almost everything is taken from his sources. He was also so kind to rewrite the Sitar audio file (that solved the calling problems).
- Silesh.Nair:
Who replaced the ramdisk files from S4 mini, that was the last step to get Wifi working. He also added some missing blobs to get camera to work. And for sending me his broken device.
- stiggy2012:
Letting me know that Sitar audio files was missing, that fixed the bootlooping.

AFAIK yes
Sweet thank you. I will flash this soon. I'm currently on the latest cm11 build from the other thread but was unable to get data working.
I admit I got flash happy and after learning how to root and what roms would work for the m819n I went with cm11. So I honestly didn't try my data service on stock.
I tried all the different apn settings and putting those in manually but had no luck. So maybe I just had a bad download or flash. MetroPCS tech support is reseting my "service circuit" so I'll flash your build after that's done which should take about 2 hours.
Sorry for the rambling, back to your build. Is this just your build of the current stuff with cm11 or is there anything you added to it?

there is indeed a problem with libwebviewchromium.so , it's only a few hundred bytes, replacing it with the one from Silesh build solve the problem.
now adding a google account or opening web browser works fine.

Very nice! Thx bro
xt1524
hya!
i flashed this on my rooted xt1524 with the custom squid r5 kernel (followed the xda video guide for rooting).
...immediately noticed huge improvements in performance!
then i went ahead and flashed gapps 5.1 (for google play store) as well, (i always cleared cache&dalvik after flashing) which resulted in heavy slowdowns and error messages at first, luckily now it's running smooth again! (i did however deactivate everything, except for play store, which is the only google thing i use)
next, i installed the latest alpha for xposed 5.1 , and the modules i use seem to work as they should (greenify, viper4android).
so yeah, i'm very happy now thank you big time!!
great job scritch007 , flashed this and this is my favorite rom better than cm and maybe more compatible with xposed framework. thank you
edit: drop network problem

I use this Rom now for a few days. Conclusion: no lags, no boot loops, camera works.

I'm using it too as my everyday rom, but I'm having some issues with the video recording, this issue I also have it on CM12.1.
If I try to record some video of more then 46 secs (I usually test with 1minute), one time out of 2 or 3 the camera app will force close. I'm still investigating on this issue but do you face it?
Hi, I have now tested the video function several times. With me everything is working. I've made several videos over 5-6 minutes. Goes without problems. But I also do not the stock app but "open Camera". Can it be that the stock App is broken?

Earphones not working?
On the XT1527, I tested a couple of earphones and none is working. That's the biggest bummer so far for me.
Does 4g work on this ROM or no? According to another post the 4g is working but if it's built off @scritch007 build then, in my experience, 4g CDMA doesr not work.

I hope the noob question can be forgiven, but does F-AOSP include the modifications that remove the carrier-signaling when tethering?
With the stock ROM, T-Mobile can tell when I'm tethering because the stock build uses a different device to send out the tethered traffic.
CM12 normally removes this such that one can tether without strings attached. Does F-AOSP include this, or no?
