[Q] connect a S2 display to a S3 motherboard - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear XDA members,
First of all, I want to apologize for my bad English...
I have an S3 with a broken screen. My phone gets on, make noises, but I have no picture.
My wife has an old S2, it is possible to connect my S3 motherboard to the display of the S2? The connectors look the same, but does it works?
I know that the resolutions of the S2 and S3 are different, but all I need to the is to make a backup. (USB port is also broken )
Thanks.

Pretty sure that would just fry the display of the s2, because it is different hardware than the s3.

Thanks for the reply...
The story continues to find a S3.

Sorry I can not help you the way I had in mind.
With your original problem I would of sent you an old s3 complete screen assembly I have to either use to copy data or use permanently.
I swapped it out because of a bad glass replacement done by a local shop but it still works and functions...most of the time. Sometimes the touch doesn't work for a few seconds but the Netherlands is to far away.
Sorry for raising hope

Thanks for your help and your offer.
I can borrow a S4 or Note3, is it possible to connect one of those to my S3??
Thanks guys.

I think this won't work pretty well. I know that it is the same type of display: Super AMOLED capacitive TOUCHSCREEN, 16M colors, but the site and resolution is different. And the next question is, if the connectors really fit in!

I'm sorry to hear this, but looks like you are one of the many with sudden dead gs3.
If you cannot fix it at samsung. Best chance would be to buy a motherboard or a smashed gs3 and use the motherboard.
I think would be cheaper to send it to samsung and let them replace the board for you. Email them and ask and compare prices.

[Q] S pen mod for gs3 i9300?

Hey guys I'm a noob, I've been thinking about it for a long time, since the note 2 uses a Wacom digitizer would it be possible to mod the Wacom digitizer to replace the normal digitizer on the gs3??
Should be fairly simple
haha, genius
I know you guys are mocking me, but seriously it does use a wacom digitizer, which is why the pen won't work on any phone except for the note 2, it should be possible to mod the digitizer and plug it in to the motherboard of the s3 im willing to try this on my s3 if someone can get me going in the right direction

I don't think anyone is going to waste time trying to figure this out when the screen sizes are completely different.....let's face it, if you want a note instead of an s3 wouldn't it just be wiser to buy one in first place? You're never going to get a working phone out of it for the exact reason I illustrated in first place

if someone does commercially sell a modded version of the s3 screen, it would atleast cost 320$ + , which is alot just for a small feature as per me, but maybe your opinion varies.

Never seen it posted .
You will have to use Google and search .

I used google, nothing concrete, plausible. Maybe someone did, or has the opportunity and resources to have made such a "transplant" and succeded. And he hadn't a chance to talk about this...
you can if you also replace the antenna
Most important of all, figure out if 9300 and 9305 use same screen, if so, there is chance this might work.

Can you give me a photo with the antena, if i don't replace the antena, what happens?...cause the thing is, i have a i9300 with broken motherboard and i bought a i9305 with broken glass an screen...so, Will I be able to have a functional s3?...(tomorrow i'm getting the i9305)
(...or whats with the i9305's antena?...beside the fact she is for 4g networks...is there a shape difference...or...conector...)

You need to search for teardowns for both models .
Photo antenna google search image .

if you don't replace the antenna, you won't be able to use it as a phone.
for a photo, search for disassembly videos
I find that they are identical. Anyway I am very excited and thank you so much for the promptness with which you answered. 'll Be back tomorrow to tell you if it works. I hope so, because I spent a lot of money. Have a great day!
make sure to report back, it's quite interesting
So, what update on OP?

Bad news...almost. The s3 I got is T999, the MB quite ok, it is not perfectly fiting in the i9300 case..because the arangement of the circuit boards...but i managed to start the phone...it is working...but I have another problem..."camera failed"...I changed it with old one....the same...now I'm trying to update the software...maybe I'll succed. I mention that everything else is working...
ooh, the T999 is completely different, surprised it booted
camera works too...I changed the software. And yes Glebun, I was too...

[Q} Full wipe without the use of screen?

Hi guys,
I've ran into a little bit of a pickle with my SGS 3, I cracked the screen through my own clumsy stupidity, it needs to go in for a repair but I want to wipe all my personal data from the device before doing so, is it possible at all?

Which screen?
The looky, see stuff screen?
The touchy, do stuff screen?
You can work around both but not simultaneously.

The LCD display itself, the digitiser works, you just cant see what you're doing.
MHL adapter then... although if it has an LCD it's not an S3 so MHL can't be guaranteed

[Q] Odd, maybe stupid S3 question...

Hi all, this may seem like a silly thing to ask but here goes....
I've got an S3 I9300 with a smashed screen. I would like to salvage my data/pics etc before I bin it.
However I can't access it via my pc as it has a screen lock that I obviously can't see or remove.
I have a spare Galaxy Ace 2 that I'm using temporarily and my question is; will the Ace 2 lcd screen plug into my S3 board temporarily
so I can retrieve my stuff?! I know I should just try it but I'd rather ask first before I waste my time stripping both phones!
Thanks for reading!
No will not work.
Different connectors and drivers.
