[LIST] KitKat Bloatware || Safe-To-Remove System Apps of 4.4.2 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

SAFE-TO-REMOVE SYSTEM APPS OF KITKAT
Together, we can compile a list of safe-to-remove system apps. I will start the list based on my own experiences with removing/freezing system apps within kitkat without finding conflicts such as force closes.
I know there are many more, so please add your confirmed ideas to this thread! I will add info on more safely-removable system apps to this post as comments with app names are given!
If you modify any files on your phone based-on this thread, it is your own responsibility for any problems which may occur afterwards! This list is going to be based on what i've done so far using NoBloat.

No need to be rude about my request. For the next three days I have my daughter staying with me, so researching each individual component of Kit Kat 4.4.2 won't be high on my list of priorities I'm afraid. Once I have her back to school I'll get right on it, scouts honour!

Not being rude, trying to encourage people to add to the community rather than asking for other people to do things. I know your just suggesting it, but besides the straight forward apk's we all know, like amazon, any of us would have to research and take a lot of time to add descriptions. It's a good idea, one i think we could all collaborate on, including you and me. I'll add some tonight when i get home from work if @calebcabob agrees to all of this.

Click on the link in my sig to the Helper Post I wrote out for the i9100 on all things except KK, and you can see for yourself I'm not exactly a basic user. I'm also Microsoft Certified as a Technical Specialist for Xp, Vista and Seven. Thing is, I've only had 4.4.2 in my hands for three days, after buying a i9505 on Tuesday. My apologies for thinking of the n00bs of the world - along with myself - and for hoping someone with more experience with KK on a LTE device may be of assistance...

I didn't say you were a noob at all, i said i thought you had a good idea and we could all collaborate on the project. A majority of that list has been bloatware since ICS, no need for kitkat experience. I also said i would help and add a few things starting tonight, as I hope others do too.

Kit Kat on LTE is a different dessert - from the quick tour I've taken over the last couple of days I notice a lot of changes under the bonnet. All good, I'll get onto it after I've had my access weekend with my daughter and present a Helper Post similar to what I've done for the i9100...

Ok, yeah - let's do it! I agree and had the initial intension of including descriptions along with the apk names. However, once I realised just HOW MUCH TIME that would have taken (haha), I sorta lost the ambition to follow through. But seeing how several of you have agreed to contribute to the leg-work, I'd be more than willing to help out too! This'll really spice up the usefulness of this thread!
Ok, so I guess I'll set a couple of guidelines in order to make this a smooth process...
First, maybe we can each claim a section of the list by alphabetical order (someone take A-D, another E-H, etc) - you decide how much you'd be willing to take on.
And secondly, I guess just try to keep your descriptions brief, while also being informative!!
How's this all sound? Anybody else have any other ideas to add in order to make this smooth process? Thanks to everyone who is willing to collaborate!! :good:

Agreed. Its like just then, I looked through the list of system apps using Jumobile's System App Remover and found a way to release the annoying widget screen that pops up behind the glass of the Samsung S-View Cover. Unless a user is at the level of yourself, joshm.1219 and I its pretty difficult to determine whether it's a good idea to delete 'com.sec.android.app.wfdbroker' (for example). Give me a few days, then I'll focus my full attention onto it. Cheers!
By the way, voila! 500 posts! Yay to me!

I'll take S-Z!

Right, but this is all going to be ultimately up to the user to decide...BUT I think you bring up a good point too, so maybe I can color-code the "riskier" ones in red...While the others are another color...or something like that. If you guys know of any that can be risky to delete, please mention it I admit that I don't know what half of these REALLY do, except that I've just learned on my own from trial and error, and of course some research.

Bit embarrassed about this one as I tried it when I first got my streak and dismissed it far too quickly. its now my favorite app!
you know all those lovely books you grabbed in laputa? ** imagine reading them in either landscape or portrait with whatever layout you want. that's the start, then imagine sticking it in night mode and setting what colour you want the text to be. then decide you really want the backlight much darker than either Dell and lapses will let you go. slide your finger down the left edge if the screen.. genius!
Flick page left turns it, no fuss, no scrabbling around in the bottom corner trying to Flick the page.change the page animation speed, change pretty much everything..
**copy any epub book to /sdcard/ebooks/import and enjoy them in comfort

The apps I can't do without, and to be frank they've saved the streak for me
GOOGLE LISTEN automated download of subscriptions just add to your queue and listen, need to spend time finding good stuff to listen to but there's plenty out there. This week in google is always god for a laugh
ROCK PLAYER watching films on the streak is a must, currently the only app that doesn't need mass conversion of your film library
SWYPE keyboard is a must the stock keyboard was/is terrible, I spent ages correcting errors now I have a keyboard that I can tap or swype and get good results.
ENGADGET reads a dream on the streak
NEWS PRO THOMPSON REUTERS all types of news under one roof
That's it I'm afraid i expected more from such an open platform. I could do more with a jailbroken iphone than with android 1.6. I hope that will change soon.
Ones to watch
BLIND TYPE http://tinyurl.com/377aor4
this is amust
TMN POND this is a social agrigator, currently in beta so search the web for install (might be on market by now)
SEESMIC another social agrigator, currently only does buzz and twitter
PHONEBOOK 2.0 also a social agrigator but also acts as you phone book
All 3 apps have potential but have along way to go to get it right

I have just stumbled across this app that plays AVI files and as their are not many out their that do that i thought i put the link up
http://www.appbrain.com/app/sns.arcMedia.playerInterface.arm6
PS i havent tried it yet so if someone does please share it with us
interesting, the 1.6 firmware photo&video is by arcsoft media ...
obviously a coincidence of naming..
as this is based on FFMpeg I'd imagine it will be able to handle quite a few codecs eventually.
however looks like this specific version is compiled for arm6 processors, (the appbrain link name suggests it) so maybe a v7 version would be a bit better.
Barcode Scanner
One of those apps i would gladly pay for
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/shopping/barcode-scanner_clh.html
You will notice on the link page a barcode for installing barcode scanner, but considering you haven't downloaded or installed it yet, i would like to see how anyone would take advantage of it

Quick question, what USB mode is your Streak in when transfer video files
from Amazon. I havnt got it to work yet?
Thanks!
psx4droid: bit limited on what works, but WRC Arcade version and Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (and i presume 1.0) work!!
Kindle is excellent on the Streak.
Don't understand why people aren't using the built in video player? Having said that, I'm using DVD conversions I did for my old X1 and that was a swine to convert for. h264 mpeg I think?
Copilot is superb, google maps with streetview and traffic layer is a godsend.
And, for anyone who has an OBDII compliant car, "Torque" is a great bit of software. You get a bluetooth OBDII adapter from ebay for around 25 quid and now you have diagnostics (including reading and clearing fault codes) for your car!! £2? The guy could charge £10 and it'd be well worth it!!
Being a photographer, "Photo Tools" is a very handy application
And for music, through bluetooth in my car, Mort Player is great - especially if you add the widget. It even responds to the steering wheel controls for next and previous track!

I launched Amazon Unbox player, connected the Streak, and selected Media files. After a minute or so, I was able to see the Streak, after refreshing the devices in Unbox. Good luck!!
Found a good clock widget for the Streak, the surround looks similar to the standard streak icon surrounds so it matches them pretty good.http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-davidgoemans-simpleclockwidget-zAtq.aspx
Weather forecast widget, only used this for a coupls of days, seems pretty accurate, battery use was good with 3% over 8 hrs (set to update every 6)

for anyone who hasn't seen it, you should check out Boots' app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777482
I have tested and it does work over wifi with the Streak. Still in alpha but it does have promise.
I downloaded Skype but for some reason it just freezes the streak. Im sure its skype. I know skype haven't releashed a Dell Streak Version. I installed system tools and my memory has gone upto 93%. even though I use task manager and also have 1.5gb free on internal.
I had to switch the screen off a few times to get the screen to respond to my touches sometimes had to restart (i've tried screen calibration) and when i finally got it to work went into settings --> application --> stopped skype and it works fine ... strange.. anyone else having the same problems?

List Of APK's safe to freeze and / or delete

This is a WIP so forgive me for doing this in steps instead of all at once, I dislike anything from AT&T and Samsung being loaded on the phone, I am an average user that does not use my phone for business so anything like VPN / Exchange is not needed by me. I just like my phone as lean as possible while maintaining stability
Note: This list is from the latest ICS leak, and have been tested on my phone. I have not DELETED the APK's yet, but have them disabled either thru [Applications / All] or using Autostarts, and RomToolbox. Sorry for the rough layout of this list, I have the flu so expect typo's too.
Accuweather Daemon (used for the weather on the lockscreen / widget)
Accuweather.com (widget)
Android Keyboard (I am soley using Swype)
AP Mobile news (widget)
Application Monitor
AT&T Hot Spots
Buddies Now (widget)
City ID
DeviceHelp
Exchange Services ( I Dont use Exchange)
Google Partner Setup
Home Screen Tips
HTML Viewer (Anyone know what this even does?)
Kies Air
Lets Try Panning!
Media Hub
Mini diary
News & Weather
Polaris Office
Samsung Account
Setup Wizard
Social Hub (There are two listings I disabled both)
TalkBack
Voice Talk (vlingo)
WidgetBinder *
Yahoo Finance
YP Mobile (Disabling this will cause a FC if you try and use it within contacts)
* I am not using TW LAUNCHER. I'm using Apex instead, might have undesired effects if you disable this and use the stock launcher.
[Edit: jellybean list coming soon.]
I am with you, I hate the bloat I know I will not use and don't want it on my device. If you search in either the SGS-II forum or the Note forum you will find a spreadsheet that is also a good reference on what can be removed.

What he said! ^^^^^^ That list is fairly spot on.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
We need a verified list like that for Jelly Bean now, and we also need another list for Startup apps and services, that are safe to remove from Startup. Sometimes you don't need to uninstall an app that you occasionally use, but you certainly don't need it running and eating up resources each time the phone boots.
A great post !!
If i can get a few users too verify the list a few times, i'll add the thread as a resource to the "everything" thread.....
this would help out users a lot !!
thank you......g

I'll hold off for the JB then...
If you can add them both into this thread, and name it for both, that would be sweet....
The "one stop" for both OS's.......
Or not, your call, but thank you in advance......g
there are alot more apks that can be removed. i posted some in another thread awhile back. post number 7 and 8 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767113 if you want to add to your list so they can all be in one place. also if you are trying to free up space there are more files that can be removed. in system/media/audio you can delete all extra ringtones, notifications, and alarms. i only have the one i use in each folder and i delete the entire ui folder since i dont like my phone making noise every time i press something. on cm roms there is a video folder in same location that i delete. i have never seen those videos run and are useless. and more i can list later when have time.

Possibly start from one of the lists of candidates that show on a Google of "debloat LG G2 verizon". Likely a fair number of them have carried over to G3.
Here's a list of all the questionable apps I see installed. These survived my first pass of bloatware removal where I got rid of all the obvious junk I didn't want. This list contains everything I can't readily identify and I don't know if it's safe to remove or even want it to be removed

Good call, I'll cross check the lists and update the original post.
I disabled all of those and now I can no longer access my phone settings. Trying to narrow down which one disabled it...
edit: "tab view" works, but not "list view" in settings. A bit odd...

^ This. Please read before disabling. Bobbarker's list is items he's unsure of, not confirmed disabled and safe.

Had this problem too, defrosted LGApduService 1.2/LG IMS 3.3.0/LG System Server and fixed it.
I've disabled a handful based on old G2 lists as well as those mentioned above:

A few of those are either hunches (the com.verizon ones) on my part or services I wouldn't use anyway (ie. Email, SmartShare, voice controls outside of Google Now, etc.). So far everything is running fine, but bear in mind that I won't know for sure until tomorrow when I swing by Verizon to get the device transferred to my line and pop a SIM into it. Running off of strictly WiFi at the moment.
Just to clarify, when you mean disable, you mean freeze under the paid version of Titanium Backup? Sorry, I haven't been on the rooted scene since the Galaxy Nexus came out.

you can disable a lot of apps just using the app manager now, of course some bloatware still requires Titanium Backup but only some.
Oh thank you, I didn't know that. I just bought Titanium Backup though, after all these years of using the free version I finally have a bit of financial freedom to contribute. Thanks for the information though!

Friendly warning!
Best to just freeze the bloat rather than uninstall. Much easier to backtrack and fix an issue, or if you need to update for critical fixes. This is the best option unless a vet of modding your phone.
The bloat does not take up much storage space. ART is a far more significant issue as far as storage space hogging.
GNSS = GLOBAL NAVIGATION SATELLITE SYSTEM
May not want to screw with that one if you use g positioning data.
GPS = The American Global Positioning System. GNSS covers other positioning satellite systems too.
Did they really preload Hotels.com? What a joke this bloatware has become.

Yup...and the NFL crap. I love football but please let me install my preferred apps.
Disabling the LG Music app ("Music") will prevent you from adding new ringtones or notification sounds. However, once you have added the audio file it seems to be fine to freeze it again and have the ringtone still work.
Otherwise, I can confirm no issues with OP's suggestions.

Is GNSS at work in the United States as well, or are we limited to only GPS functionality? I ask because having GNSS related processes frozen through TiBu has caused me zero issues so far and was one of the things listed on many "safe to freeze" lists for the G2.
Guys. I just got the G3 and rooted it right in the parking lot of Best Buy lol
What specifically do u need to freeze to stop further OTAs?
I know the answer is here somewhere but just wanted it sooner is all forgive my laziness

What bloatware have you safely disabled/removed on the Galaxy Tab S3?

I purchased the Package Disabler Pro (BK) from the google play store for $2.49 - this is a subjective question topic and everyone's needs are different. I'm mainly using this device for offline personal storage media playback and offline note taking with the S-pen (no cloud).
Curious to hear what you've disabled that hasn't caused any other conflicts with the Galaxy Tab S3.
Right now I've disabled either through Settings > Apps OR through Package Disabler Pro (If it didn't give the option through the regular way, I used the Package Disabler Pro app) :
Google Chrome
Google Hangouts
Google Maps
Google Photos
Google Play Movies & TV
Google Play Music
Netflix
PenUp

Attached is my list of disabled packages. I guess some of you may find many of these packages useful (eg I use the SNote app for note taking so I have disable both the samsung notes and oneNote apps)
Disabled list
Side note: I don't do social media and use VLC as my unified media player. Most all games and apps seem to work as long as play games is installed and disabled, but there is no need for any phone stuff since there isn't anything other than wifi, and no need for ANT as there is no radio reciever. All location services can also be safely disabled depending on your app's needs (personally I hate location trackers, camera, or microphone apps...too intrusive) I am using stock Android 7.0 with the August 2017 update and bk disabler, nextapp atlas browser and fx file explorer to conduct online business without the added bloat of aftermarket apps. I also use NaptimeX and Brevent to address the battery drain issue (which is all software related). Run mainly drawing apps at full-res (6000x4500 pxls) and can gain 10% baterry charge in the time it takes for an outdoor cigarette break, and my systems cache is normally topped under 10 mb max.

I find this one extremely useful as it is actually an app that allows you to search items in your tablet. You can search even for handwritten notes.

All good...However, the Nextapp FX file browser has all the search functions that I need already integrated into it, as well as integrated media management, and can be toggled as to how it addresses the Android media database. Thus keeping it virtually a cache-less operation. My thing is security, followed by preformance, and then optional wares...in essence minimalism.:good:

Classy intro by :

For the most part, I'm a self taught individual on everything I know about android. Bricked my first phone, and coudn't find the firmware. My wife bought me the same exact phone, and the next day I had frankensteined the other phone back to life so hard, that to this day I still have a backup from google, 226 days ago, for a j700, believe it or not lol. Anyway, these are all solid deox jobs I've been getting together, most(if not all) should be able to hold service, with the exception build. This work was done without the assistance of any building software, these are good old fashioned jobs. I just discovered Assayyed Kitchen, and will see what I'm able to accomplish with it. I'm a stay at home disabled vet, so I'm usually around throughout the day. I'm capable of being active when needed. Hope someone enjoys at least one of these. The farther down the list you go, the more extreme you get.
This work is based off of the ROMs created by Peter Couniaz, who has forums for ARA1, and ARC2 already up. Check them out if you don't see what you want here.
For anyone concerned, I wanted to reassure you, all builds have full functionality with; the playstore, VPN, phone, contacts, camera, email, themes, and messaging.

Build 1 - J727PVPU3ARC2.RTTX2D_BASE
This was based off of the deoxed RTD made by Peter, with his Xposed script/files from the ARA1 ROMs. The second was where I started my thread off, at his recommendation.
RTTX2D(apps I can't stand, of don't want in the system)
pulls from apps:

2 themes, usually applies the light theme by default, dark theme can be chosen in the theme galaxy! I recommend a quick reset of the phone or UI for theme to fully set up, if you have issues. Also added substratum wings, from out own developers, as a preinstall. Substratum/Sunstratum user apps required. Also need Samsung Sans from the galaxy app store.
Build 2 - J727PVPU3ARC2.RTTX3D_CLEANUP
This is mostly a cleanup of the app drawer/viable system apps, I have a hard time not hitting the system when doing anything.
RTTX3D(I love a cleaned up app drawer, and usually don't replace them as user apps...guess more apps I don't like)
pulls from apps. This where I begin to like my phones, nice and clean. Your contacts are usually handled by 2 apps, and Samsung isn't usually one of them.
Still a pretty safe option/Very Functional/the app drawer isn't quite empty.

Build 3 - J727PVPU3ARC2.RTTX4D_BREAKDOWN
Your phone is belong to you.
I don't think this should have problems holding service, if it doesn't, please post/PM ASAP, so I can fix it, but this shouldn't be a problem, it's the next one I'm actually possibly concerned about.

How much more is there?
This is actually the one I worry might be problematic, but I don't have service on the phone I use, so I recommend you approach this with caution. This is actually not the last deox, the last one takes this further, and is what I actually use on a daily basis, and I have a blast with it. IE my personal build, for a WiFi phone with no recovery when flashing.
So, lets do this.

For anyone concerned, I wanted to reassure you, all builds have full functionality with; the playstore, VPN, phone, contacts, camera, email, themes, and messaging. I never take out what makes the phone a phone. All of these features, and most stock features even work on my personal build, as it was what I tested with for the last test, before writing this post.
Download links in build titles, if you didn't notice lol.
Is this still available any where?
