[Q] Help! Replaced R cam, won't focus now, metropcs help! - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Hey, I've read about 25 threads, none of which have helped solve my problem.
I wrecked a motorcycle with the phone in my back pocket. The crash killed the lens and the camera. Everything else works. I replaced the camera and lens with one from SW-BOX.com. The camera works now but wont focus. I assumed it was a firmware issue since everything else works. Due to a 'modified' status I wasn't able to upgrade my phone for about the last year. I finally got fed up with it and figured out how to side stepped that last night('official' status now). The phone is up-to-date now. However, the camera still wont focus.
The camera isn't in macro mode and all other camera features work fine. It simply wont focus. Even if I tap & hold the screen. Also the lens is oriented properly.
I've done a hard reset and a cache wipe. Most recently I was trying to figure out what my camera's firmware was, in hopes that (maybe) it could be updated to fix the issue. But every thread I've Googled has turned up this key code, *#34 blah blah blah that doesn't work on my phone. I assume that code only works on Verizon versions of the S3. I also tried searching the system/etc/firmware/ for rm***.bin files. I can't find any relevant *.bin files or file names starting with 'rm'.
Additionally I used an anti static bracelet to do the install. I didn't alter or damage anything in the phone during the installation. No cracked ribbon cables, scratched PCB's, short circuited terminals, altered soldier joints, loose wires, mal-fitting boards, everything is seated properly - - It was a clean install. I don't know WTH else it could be. It has to be software related.
So I'm lost here.
Questions:
1. How do I figure out my current camera firmware version?
2. Anyone have an suggestions on how to fix this?

Camera is faulty, return it to the seller.

Damn it, I was really hoping that wasn't the case... I've had it for to long to return it. I'll have to buy a new one if thats whats wrong.
Link to Rear camera supplier:

■Samsung Galaxy S3 SPH-L710 (Sprint)
■Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 (Verizon)
■Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 (AT&T)"
I'm on metropcs, the 'model number' for the phone is labeled as "SCH-R530M" This information wasn't available when I bought mine previously. And I have no idea weather it is fully releveant or not in this case. Which is also why I was attempting to see what the firmware version for the camera was.
Anyone know how to do that on my phone? Or can give me a clue as to HOW I can figure it out on my own haha? Thanks for the help!

HELP!! Warning: Camera Fail

Okay, so, I just noticed today that my camera no longer works. It was working a few days ago, but, no... death. Did some skulking around XDA and other forums. I thought it MIGHT be caused by something going wrong when I flashed Passion v6.5... so, I reflashed Passion v4 (it used to work fine), nothing. ODIN back to stock... nothing. Are there any other tips out there besides the obvious, and fatal, hardware issue? It would be a ton of help. Thanks.
Try using a differnt camera. There is one in the market today for .10cents
Camera ZOOM FX
For a dime it might provide a solution to your needs or an enlightenment that it may in fact be a hardware issue.
Exactly how is the camera not working? F/c? Doesn't open..etc.? When you flashed did you factory reset, clear cache and data? Have you tried using a camera app?
Same thing happened to me a while back, tried replacing the camera, still didn't work. I:
/notaproblemwithicspassion.
Stuff I've tried;
- I had two Vibrants, tried replacing it. (Worked for a little, then same error.)
- Mounting and unmounting it.
- Flash back to stock, update camera.
- Different camera apps.
- CM7/MIUI/ICS/FROYO
Unfortunately there is not a lot of options. If you can find someonw with a bricked vibrant you could offer to buy the camera. If you get o replacement camera off ebay then more then likely your going to have some banding issues( lines thru your pictures). There is a website (mobiletechvideos.com) that sells replacement cameras that arent supposed to have banding issues. Ive never dealt with them, so I cant say for sure. Mine stopped workin a while back, kept saying "camera fail". I replaced it with one off ebay. It works but i have terrible banding in anything but bright light. There are some videos on you tube on how to replace the camera. Good luck!

So you bought one off ebay and it's working. (Sort of?)
Mind linking me to where you bought it?
I'll link later when I get to my pc. I just typed samsung vibrant replacement camera into ebay. After I replaced it it worked for a day then it's got the camera fail message. Then about 2weeks went by and it started working again. I have no idea why.

This purchased item information is no longer available.
There are a number of reasons why this information isn't available. The most common reason is that item details for purchases are not kept for more than 90 days.
Hm.. heh.
For those asking, when the camera is opened, all it says is 'Warning: Camera Failed'. I've come to the conclusion that it's a software issue somewhere. After starting this thread, the camera came back to life a few hours later. After flashing a new ROM, same thing. I'm going to see if I can isolate a fix.
I have to bang my camera on a hard surface like furniture or a rock and it works. Could be both.

Lolz, please stopping abusing your servant.
Maybe you guys should try to use titanium backup to clear the data and uninstall the camera apk. Then, odin back to stock. Be sure to wipe both caches and factory reset before flashing another rom.
Good luck

[Q] SGP 4.0 YP-G1CW/XAC factory Gingerbread ROM - Rear Camera Fail

Hi, trying to find if anyone else has this problem with the YP-G1CW and whether there are any solutions? A Google search has pulled up similar problems on many other Galaxy devices but no definitive answer.
Rear camera on my device stopped working. Activating the stock camera app brings up a black screen with all the icons and settings which can all be toggled. Switching to front camera works fine.
Any other camera apps, eg: Camera 360, Facebook, all give a Force Close.
I've tried a number of suggestions from turning off GPS, reboot, to resetting to Factory settings. Nothing seems to make a difference. I'm using the standard Gingerbread ROM - the device is pretty much vanilla.
Anyone else experienced this on the SGP?

This may be off-topic but the XAC is the canadian model right? Where did you buy it and does it have a capacitive button?
Yes, it's the Canadian model - capacitive menu, home, back buttons.
Purchased in Canada... Staples were carrying them.

Ok thanks. Regarding your question did you root your device and did something wrong with it?
It's a stock unit... never been rooted, no mods made to it.
You're actually pretty close to me... I'm just over the ON/QC border.

I don't know, if it worked before and don't work now it may be either a hardware defect. Try to exchange it.
Nice where you live?
Thanks. It was working fine. I had assumed it was a software issue rather than hardware and I had installed or uninstalled an app that was causing the problem, particularly with a number of other Samsung devices seemingly having the same issue.
For info, I called Samsung and got an interesting response - the tech support guy told me they had not had a Galaxy Player with this issue before, however they have had it often with Galaxy phones, so he gave me a service ticket straight away.
The authorised service centre is in St Laurent which is only a short drive from my office so I'll be dropping it off on my way to work.

[Q] Galaxy S3 Front Cam Issue

Hi guys,
I'm not usually using my front camera, but today i realized it has a big green-pink pixelated stripe.
What do you think about that? It might be a hardware of software/firmware issue?
What should i do?
Thanks!
I attached some photos taken with the camera and the stripe doesn't appear when it's too dark or bright..

(since i'm a new user so i can't post links of the pics i took, i chose to shorten them )
Have you power cycled the phone? You gave us only a little information.
Z.
I forgot to mention that i tried few android versions for my phone (it came with 4.0.4, i flashed 4.1.1, 4.1.2 and then returned to 4.1.1). I'm currently on 4.1.1 i9300xxdlib. The phone was resetted even to factory settings..
did it show up on the other versions? try putting CM on it or something and see if it shows up then, or try a different camera app from the play store
I don't remember having this issue on 4.0.4 version since i didnt use the front camera then.
Yes, the issue persists in other apps too.
I am trying to flash 4.0.4 now and see what happens. Does the root have something to do with this? 3
Hardware problem. You dropped the phone? The camera lens might moved from its original position and it's giving refracted beams in the sensor. You might claim your warranty.

Help changing camera module...

Hi guys, I'm a newbie and been roaming for a while. Anyway, I have a samsung galaxy s2 (international). Other week I dropped it in a bowl of acetone but surprisingly phone came back to life and works as good as new. However, when I finally tried the camera I noticed it was blurry unless focused, and even then, the focus was very temperamental so couldn't always guarantee a decent pic (and having kids you can't always wait for the Autofocus to work to take the pic as they don't stay In one place, lol). I bought a camera module but because I didn't read it properly I thought it was an official s2 module which I found out wasn't when I fitted it. Picture was a lot worse than the original one I had so put that one back in, at least I could get a decent pic WHEN it was working.
To be fair I could just buy a new phone but I love my s2 and don't want to fork out money for the same phone, I'd want a whole new phone to play with, and nothing takes my fancy.
So, anyway, partner has kept an eye out for spares and repairs s2's as at least when I get one I know it's going to be a proper camera module. Found one that's on Vodafone and won't turn on for £50 and there's a good chance the camera will work (if not will just bung on ebay again).
I know how to physically install it, but need advice on what to do regarding firmware? I know there's different modules (fuji, Sony etc...) so if the one I install is different from the one im currently using will I need to do something regarding software? You can't get the camera firmware updater anymore from the Samsung store so need help, please
Oh and phones Rooted but has stock room, if that makes any difference.

[Q] Camera doesn´t work after assembling the phone. How can I fix it?

Good night, i hope you can help me. I just get nervous after disassembling the phone, I tell you.
I disassembled the phone to try to fix the front camera because of the fuzzy photos, when I saw that I could not do much (I released the first 7 screws and the other 2 black). I have releasd the front camera connector and nothing more. Then I placed the screws and when restarting the phone, the camera screen appears all black and stays dumb phone. What happened? How I can fix it? Everything works except that.
Let's see if anyone knows how to fix it. Regards.
PD: I have a custom rom: Neat Rom Lite 4.0.3 with Siyah Kernel.

Nobody knows how to fix it?
I have installed de Stock Rom, and it still doesn´t work, maybe if I install another kernel... The last choice, it´s buying a camera and change, but it´s very rare that the camera was broken opening the phone.
Have you tried the service manuals ? They've been posted here at various times over the past two years (a Google or XDA search should yield what you need). There should be a rundown (w/pics) of how to change the camera, perhaps you missed something somewhere ?

I have downloaded the service manuals, but all I had done was correct. The first time, i only released the 7 screws of the back, and then the 2 black screws from the mainboard. I moved a little the mainboard, I blew a little bit and then i put everything back. It´s so rare.
Thanks for your help
