does xperia z2 need screen protector ? what happens if we use it ?
thnx

Im not using a screen protector and i havent noticed any scratches yet
Nothing happens when you use one, phone acts normal

never for front, i only use film for the back

As after one week of use I get a little micro scratch on my screen, I put a Spiegel glass on it and now I'm very happy with it! the screen still respond very well, and the oleophobic coating of the spiegel if far better than Sony's one.

Unlike the Z1, the Z2 does not have a screen protector anymore.

Scratch on the screen

I've got 2 scratches on the screen one of about 2 cm and a smaller one of about 8 mm.
Is it possible to get just the screen replaced ? I don't want to have too much trouble replacing it as I've kind of get used to it, but it doesn't look pretty.
Had BTW a dream last night that the screen got shattered - fortunately I woke up and look at it and thought PHEW
EDIT: Whoops - this should have been in Q&A ...
Did you take the factory screen protector out ? If no then every X10 comes with a screen protector already applied. You can check the edges you will notice it.
Damn.. I did not know there was such a thing
Thanks for telling me - but how do you remove it ?

Grow your finger nails or ask some with BIG fingernails. A knife will do it but may damage the fake chrome in the side. Be careful.

Just put a new one after removing the old one.. it becomes moisture sensitive without it.
In my X10 box, there were tree of this protectors. So you can replace without buying a new one.

I removed it and replaced it with a spare and I now have a screen without scratches. Thank you so much for mention it. Otherwise I might have been going down to the store where I bought it and would have given them the laugh of the month
EDIT: Could your help be a sticky? I don't think I am the only one who wasn't aware of the screen protector.
I think X10 has got a scratch proof screen ??
I read about it on gsmarena and many other sites ..

Yup, it has a scart proof screen. If you're not a messy person you will not get any scratches on that.

Crystal glass.

Mineral glass, crystal glass... same thing different name.
Mineral glass is ordinary tempered glass made from silica. It is more scratch resistant than Plexiglass which is a plastic also used for watch crystals.
The most scratch resistant crystals are usually mineral glass coated with synthetic Sapphire.

Corning Gorilla Glass?

Hi friends.
i have a Xperia X10, i want to know if Corning released any Screen Protector for handsets? i mean -individual protectors- i know that the Gorilla Glass its pre-installed in lot of hansets, but i want it for my Xperia.
Cheers !!

U trolling? Because Corning.g makes screens not screen protectors...
Besides they sell directly to manufacturers not retail.

Gorilla glass is the screen glass itself. It's not a screen protector. Sure, it's possible, if you want, you can order the glass yourself, measure it to fit your X10 and take out the stock glass, and replace it.
But it'd be hard to do that, and I don't know how much a Gorilla glass costs.
Thnx for explanation friend. Gonna email to Corning asking that.. i´m fan of SE but no Handset with Gorilla Glass T__T ..
Cheers.

im not trolling.. just have a doubt about that.. im not from USA, im from El Salvador and here we do not have much info about retail vendors.. so i made a question cuz i like the Gorilla screens, a friend of mine hace an HTC and Motorola with GG.. and its awesome.. no scratches . SE Stock protector is not good as the GG screen.
Cheers.

Why would you even need it?
The mineral glass that the x10 screen is made of is very strong.
my x10 was impossible to scratch, the lg phone i have now already has a scratch.
Gorilla glass is good, but in the end just another marketing ploy

Which HTC uses Gorilla-Glas? o.o I want to buy a new smartphone at Christmas and HTC+GG would nearly be perfect
Sorry, getting gorilla glass through Corning is going to be cost prohibitive.
I've tried to order custom sized pieces (just plastic for something unrelated) and there are a few things working against you.
Corning will not do a one-off order. They themselves will require probably a minimum 10,000 pieces.
Corning will need to design the piece, this upfront cost will be included in your first order. And they'll probably need at least 1 donor X10... probably multiple.
There are a few companies that make glass similar to gorilla glass - but you're probably still going to have to order it in bulk. And then let's hope that they got the measurements right the first time.
Unless if a company thinks they can make money selling gorilla glass panels to users off ebay... your only choice is really to buy a new phone that comes with gorilla glass.

you didn't remove the original screen protector though, the scratches aren't on the actual screen.
I took it off and had it off for like a year and didn't get a single even scuff.
The gorilla glass screen I have now scratched much easier.

I think you still don't understand. Gorilla Glass is the GLASS itself. Screen protector is something else. If you have bought one, peel it off, and you'll see that there's already a screen protector. And if you peel it one more time, there wont be screen protector anymore. And that's the screen.

But a simple answer to my question is NO, it doesnt exist. Well im looking for a good screen protector some ppl use Amzer or EZguard. If someone knows any Screen protector better than those plz recommend.

Problems with screen protector

I bought this 4 pack of screen protectors from Amazon - http://amzn.com/B00CMNZVR0 and had to get rid of it because it caused the touchscreen to not work. I thought I got a defective tablet because I put the protector on as soon as I got it, but once I took it off, it had no issues.
I put up a video here http://youtu.be/ug2hXaemfB8
Anyone else have similar issues with this or other screen protectors?
I had the same problem, I actually though of exchanging my tablet tomorrow for this reason. I removed my screen protector as soon as I saw your video and now touch screen is so much better. Do you think removing the shatter film then place a screen protector will help? Thank you.
By the way my screen protector was fosmon.

Due to the it being too much of a scratch magent, I recently took the plunge and removed the factory Sony applied Anti Shatter Film (ASF) and wow what a difference - the whites, colours etc seem much more natural to me and overall the screen "pops" out at you!!. The ASF is surprisingly thick and I didn't like the idea of a screen protector over the top of the ASF. After removal, I immediately applied an Incipio screen protector which is great - I wish I had done this whole thing sooner!

I just removed it. This does transform the tablet! I am finally seeing the screen and Not only my own fingerprints.
It's really easy to Do as well.

Screen protectors...talk to me.

What's the consensus on which is best?
Please let me know as well.
What I'm looking for:
- Anti glare
- Oleophobic coating
- touchscreen responsiveness
- high transparency
If possible I'd like to see some before and after shots as well
Here is a first before-photo with the pre-applied screen protector still in place http://mtb43.tweakdsl.nl/IMAG0142.jpg
The best i have found and love it
Try illumisheild store.com
I paid 25 dollars for the sony one and threw it the garbage it was thick and wouldn't place correctly.
This was super thin and transparent and easy to apply.
I've just ordered the atfolix ultra clear, will let you know

So I'm running no protector.
When the wet apply XO Skin is avaliable in the UK I'll try that.

Maybe not but how do you go about replacing the one Sony has on there? I also have a 3 year old that it's his "my pad" so even though it doesn't leave the house it could use all the protection it can get :silly:
To answer other questions, the XO skin is pretty good with fingerprints and isn't too soft where swiping is annoying. It is smooth but I wound up with a couple of rough spots but they don't bother me any or stand out much. It is a wet application and maybe more challenging to apply, especially at this size but it came out nice and im happy with it.

So there actually is a screen protector on the device out of the box? I saw a thin coat that did not reach to the border of the frame.
I thought it was just the way the glass was cut for the screen... So that is a screen protector? Is it even removable?

Well I got the XOskin wet apply protector and fail!
All the videos show that you can move it around whilst wet to align it properly, not true! I guess it's due to the plastic shatter thing Sony apply, but as soon as I placed it on the screen bam no movement.
Due to this constant up down up down to get the damn thing aligned, I have dust galore under the protector (yes I did do it in the bathroom with the shower on).
So off it comes.
Man I've spend around £40 on screen protectors and not one has gone on correctly. So no more!

[Q] Using Xperia u with out screen protector

I want to take the screen protector off my st25i and i want to know if any one used it and doesn't have scratches on the screen glass, I hate that protector but I am afraid to remove it
I've removed it from day one and have it like that for almost a year. I only have one scratch because it was a big fall on a pointy rock. But I've taken care of my phone for all the time.

That's not what I meant with no shatterproof sheet. Almost all Sony (Ericsson) smartphones comes with a laminate sheet, which are glued onto the screen under the manufacturing process. The shatterproof laminate sheet is not the same as a screenprotector and is very easy to scratch. The laminate does often have more cons than pros, and thankfully Xperia U doesn't have one.
I am using my phone without screenprotector and I dont have any scratches yet.
Sent from my Xperia U.
I've also been using it without screen protector for quite some time.
It's quite tough phone, but I managed to break the glass of the screen. It doesn't affect in anyway the usage, and it's quite imperceptible, but in my opinion it doesn't make the phone less tough
