There are many apps that will do that. One of the more popular apps is GMD GestureControl which can map a double tap, swipe or other gesture to the action that you want.
You will also find apps to remap hardware buttons. There are some good xposed modules for that.

Hiding apps in Go Launcher

Hi guys is there a *secure* way to hide android apps without requiring to root?
By secure I mean that the invisible apps cannot be easily found by other users and would require password.
I know Go launcher provide hiding app function, but it is very stupid. Anyone can just click on the "hide app" button and see what is being hidden....
Sorry, but I don't think that it is possible without root.
Really? ...sad
but Thanks anyways
Other launchers hide the "show hidden" option better.
There are a couple good ways to hide apps on android, and without root too!
Launcher pro's hide apps option is buried in their preferences, not everyone will see it unless they really know what they're looking for. Another app is called smart lock. There a lite and pro version. This app can lock any apps you program to it and also give a false "force close" notification when attempting to open a locked app. A certain function will then lead you to a password pin screen to unlock it. For quick access to a hidden app you can assign swipe gestures to the icons on the dock. Where as if they're pressed normally they will open the default app. Swipe gesture to open an alternative app of your choice. Hope this helps?
I recommend Clauncher. You can use two fingers press the screen and move inwards to open a hidden app window.

[Q] Talkback toggle creation... Please help!

OK... I have got Tasker, I`m trying to make a shortcut to talkback, or accessibility that can be accessed from double pressing the home button.
I have tried xshortcut to try and use the capture feature on it, but I get a permissions error.
I could enter it in the intent field manually I suppose, but what would I have to type as an intent to get to talkback to either toggle on or off, or to get just the the talkback screen?
I have looked and looked. The closest I am getting is com.android.settings.Subsettings.
Yes I am a noob and yes I am out of my depth, but I am just trying to make a talkback toggle for my partially sighted wife.
Any flaming/suggestions welcome
EDIT: In an ideal world, the Home2 shortcut app would work, as you can select a shortcut in this app, so I would make an accessibility shortcut with Anycut, and use it with that, but SGS2 isn`t compatibile with Home2 shortcut, and advanced home button app cannot select shortcuts
BUMP.

any update on this?? Am also trying to figure out the same thing for galaxy s and an android tab..
Closest I have got is, because Home2 doesn`t work on TouchJizz, you install some kind of AOSP rom then it works faultlessly.
The closest shortcut you can make is getting to the accessibility page, this is does either through Nova launcher actions (which I thinik is similar to anycut) or use Anycut itself!
Talkback needs an update...
Same here. I emailed the developer of spiel and he says a direct shortcut can't be made as Google limits this!

Mods wanted for home button

I won't be using S Voice a whole lot, and would rather repurpose my home key double click to something useful - such as recent apps/multitasking (as this would be much faster than holding home down). Is there a mod for this?
Also, I'd like to double click home to wake phone and unlock screen - any mods for this?
I'm on Omega v6.0, just flashed it.
Also, I'd like to do something about the wake-up delay. When pressing power or home to wake the screen up, there's a wait of a good half a second - I want it instantaneous, like my old phone was.
Any ideas?
Bump.
Afaik this delay is caused by waking up from deep sleep. There isnt much you can do, unless you want to force your phone to stay awake it will drain the battery quickly, though.
Try apex or nova launcher..
For multitasking try "wave launcher".not an ordinary launcher, check market
Editr try gesture launcher
Edit 2: or dock4droid also cool 4 multitasking

Bump for this.
I'd really like to be able to open the multitasking menu, with a single press of the home button.
Home2 shortcut in the market is.pretty useful.for key shortcuts like double click home or double click search key. Check it out

Home2 Shortcut seems like it should work (if and only if S Voice is disabled). If you have Nova Launcher installed, task switching is one of the shortcuts Nova has (so within Home2 Shortcut when you choose the app you'd like to be run, choose "Shortcut->Nova->Task Switcher"). If you don't use Nova as your normal launcher, I might be concerned about whether this causes Nova to be loaded into memory--this is a very simple test, but I can't do it because Nova is my launcher so it's already in memory.
The above technique has two disadvantages: you lose the ability to press "home" when you're already at the launcher (it does nothing), and there's an added delay before opening the launcher. I mitigate this delay by setting the double-tap time to a fast setting.
Another idea I had that might work:
- Uninstall S Voice (I think you can also rename the .apk to .apkbackup).
- Install a task-switching app (there's a very simple one on the market but it's not free--it just triggers normal Android task switching)
- Decompile the task-switching app
- Change the app namespace to S Voice's namespace
- Recompile and install the modified app.
This might make double-home-tap automatically trigger task switching without the disadvantages that come with using Home2 Shortcut. Unfortunately, I haven't yet decompiled/recompiled an app, so I probably can't give this a try until the weekend.
Edit: If technique 2 works and we want to share it as a mod, our only choice is to rewrite the app. There's no way we can condone pirating somebody's paid app.

Multitask Shortcut. Perhaps there are other apps that do this, but I haven't looked.
But it's still at least 2 button press. I'm lazy, so I'll continue with "wave launcher" that's just a swipe over screen and all your selected apps appear.

I found a way to swipe into multitasking, so I won't bother with the Home button:

[Apex] Vote for doubletap to turn screen off

Hey Guys,
I'm on the CM Nightly 10-23-2013 and i missed the feature to turn off Screen with double Tap. I am a big Fan of the Apexlauncher, so i googled and somebody already did a request to implement a feature to turn of screen with a double tap.
Would be nice if some of you who use Apex too, would chime in and vote for that Feature

I have used Apex for years and love it. Check under "Behavior settings". Under "Gestures" is Double tap desktop. Assign the app Screen off and lock to it. Now you have tap to sleep or knock off. It works flawlessly and may be even better than the stock LG implementation. Works with Nova also.
I'am currently using this solution, but i'am a fan of native solutions which doesn't require a third party app

Yup - its built into the Kernel that's why knock on still works.
While I think it would be a very good option to provide, I currently use double tap to open my app drawer. I also don't use Apex any more. I've converted to Action Launcher, Aviate, and Nova Prime.
Just providing some input though. Apex was my favorite launcher at one time. I moved away because there was a period when it started getting really laggy and buggy. Once I got comfortable with Nova I just never went back.

So then you know nova has the double tap off gesture as well
i want this implemented in apex too. been wanting it since day one. but for now i'm happy with using Lock Screen app and triggering the action with a double tap.
Voted :good:

Yes as I said, I use that feature. Works like a champ.
you can already do that, install this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
Then go into apex settings and set gestures, double tap, and set it to lunch the app.
Problem solved
Or if you have Greenify, which is one of my default apps. You can do double tap hibernate + lockscreen.
just install any "lock screen" app and assign it for doubletap gesture

Double tap for Screen Off on NOVA

Hey guys. I don't know whether anyone knows or cares but I found a guide somewhere on the internet on how you can use the double tap the screen to turn the screen off while using Nova Launcher.
1. Download the app Screen Off and Lock by katecca.
2. In Nova Launcher go to Gestures & Input.
3. Under Gestures select double tap and then use the option to select an app.
4. Select Screen Off and Lock.
5. Tap the sheet out an empty space on your Nova desktop
What I Do is use the shortcut for hibernate and screen off on double tap with greenify
Double tap on status bar will screen off, either with Nova nor stock launcher...
I use Chronus time / weather widget and have the single-tap on the weather icons to launch "Greenify Hibernate + Lock".
Works really well - didn't even know about the Greenify apps until I read the post from @wadamean above.

Damn, I didn't know that! Had I known that I wouldn't of bothered with d/l a 3rd party app
Or you can set Greenify to turn off the display by swiping up from the bottom (instead of launching Google Search). That's what I do.
From a battery saving stand point, there is a view that you don't want to hibernate apps that you are frequently using in the day. Using the greenify lock and hibernate will reduce battery life compared to just locking the phone

Interesting. I hadn't really noticed a difference myself. Granted, I forget to lock it that way half the time, and end up just double tapping the status bar, lol.

none of these respect smartlock however.
i did find a method that does, but requires tasker and root. (unless anyone knows another way to accomplish this.)
create a task with action "code > run shell"
command: "input keyevent 26"
use root: yes
this simulates pressing the power button, respects smartlock, and can be set as shortcut through nova or anywhere else.

you can call system lock in tasker without a root, just declare it as device admin is ok, same action like you press power button and turn off the screen
Or just install Screen Off app from the Playstore, and press the button...
