Follow this Steps :
1. COPY YOUR Conversetion.apk from System/App to >> your pc
2. make a copy of Conversetion.apk and rename it to Conversetion2.apk (for example)
3. change Conversetion2.apk to >>> Conversetion2.zip
4. extract the Conversetion2.zip and find this 3 folders in "res" :
drawable-hdpi
drawable-xhdpi
drawable-xxhdpi
Your current smiley are in this 3 folders
5. copy your favorite smiley(like Viber Smiley) to somewhere
6. see the name of smiley in this 3 folder and change the favorite name to them , etc :
for example the sad smiley name in default app is : conv_smiley_no_speak.png
change the your favorite smiley's name, that you want to replace with default smiley , to this >> conv_smiley_no_speak.png
and do it for ALL OF SMILEYS
7. then you should copy and replace all of the Renamed Smileys to that 3 folder to replace with default smileys
how do it ??? go to step 8
8. open WinRAR.exe !!! drag and drop Conversetion.apk to winrar ! you see META-INF and res folder and other files that are in apk file , ok ?
now in winrar , open the res , find this 3 folder :
drawable-hdpi
drawable-xhdpi
drawable-xxhdpi
enter to them Turn to turn and drag+drop all smileys in folders
your smiley must be replaced in all of this 3 folders
now its done :victory:, close winrar window and copy Conversetion.apk to your System/App and changed primission to Rw-r-r
reboot device and enjoy from New Smileys
Related Point :
1. if you want any app's smileys , just do it : anyapp.apk > rename to > anyapp.zip
and extract anyapp.zip !!! you can find the app's smiley in one of the folders ! good luck :victory::victory::victory:
2. if you want change smiley in Keyboard too , so do this guide for Xperia keyboard apk file :good:

Nice post but..
Smiley's won't appear on the receiver phone Because they need to have same Conversation.apk
right ??//

yes Of course ! after changing the conversation apk just you can see changed smiley !
but it is good point ! >> for example i dont like default smily and i love viber smiley , but maybe you dont like vibers emoji ! and you Prefer Default smiley ! so its good because both of us can see our favorite smiley
if you want your friend see changed smiley too , you have send him your edited conversation

Basic Framework Edits

this is a very basic guide to change colors and maybe icons if you've suitable icons..
I don't know anything about signing apks and stuffs but I did the following steps and it worked for me...
THINGS YOU'LL NEED :
7zip
Any Imaging Software that can handle PNG files(I use PHOTOSHOP)
FRAMEWORK-RES.APK file
STEPS :
Right Click on your framework-res.apk
Click 7-zip->Open Archive
go to res folder
Extract drawable-mdpi anywhere on your pc
edit the files you want with your imaging software and save them
now drag the modified files to the drawable-mdpi folder in the zip file
Open the drawable-mdpi folder in your zip file
select the modified files, hold and drag to the zip archive and leave it
it will ask you to add the files or not
just click yes
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Close the file
Push your framework into your phone
(I use Xrecovery mode for pushing it, cuz its safe)
Code:
[B]busybox cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk[/B]
---------------------------END------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT TIPS
if you're upto modifying colors than you may notice that some files have extension .9.png they need special way to edit (actually not so special lol)
just open them in your imaging program
you'll notice few black dots and black border
something like this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
keep those black things as they are, and mess around with the other colors
-----------------------------END QUOTE----------------------------------
for now I've just tested this with colors and few icons and it works
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
if anyone needs this framework (I changed the green color to orange, changed the lock symbol to stock it was too small and colored some of the network indicators from white to green lol)
FRAMEWORK-RES.APK.7z
Good. i tried to change the xml files. but the process needed me to use apktool to decompile the framework-res.apk.
when i used original framework-res-apk, it decompiled successfully, but when I used gingerbread framework-res.apk by pulpoff, errors about the .9.pngs occur.

yeah.. i used gingerbread theme's icons and they worked however you can only replace those which have the exact same name you know not everything is possible lol
nice work. can you explain how to change battery icon, i want it show percent, like 58% in front of the icon. i think that's what people need most
I see now, that in framework 'res' folder, in 'drawable-land-mdpi', we have stock layouts of Lock Screen (i mean, stock bar for unlock move and sound).
How can I set it to default? I don't like that SE original LockScreen theme...
Find all the icons named as SEMC_slidingtab and replace them the way you want

[Q] VoiceMail Removal

i have the Voicemail Icon on my Status bar ALL the time.
NO it's not a service provider issue. Nor anything else. it's just something i have to live with it (i live in Iraq,and trust me these things are normal here)
WHAT I NEED IS: is it possible to REMOVE the icon from the system so i can't see it on the status bar anymore????
If your rooted you could find the png file in framework-res.apk or systemUI.apk and replace it with a transparent image other than that i cant help sorry.
Yes Rooted. and Yes i want to use this method (either delete or make it fully transparent)
BUT: where can i find those? directory ???

BTW, Thanks for your concern and kind help.
I have found the file its stat_notify_voicemail.png in framework-res.apk.
Can you copy your framework-res.apk from system/framework with a root file manager and upload it and ill replace the image for you.
If your not sure how to do this let me know and ill try to explain.
Ive modded the file to be transparent just needs injecting into your framwork
can you teach me how to replace the PNG inside the APK? so i can do it myself in the future.
Thanks again ( A LOT )
update:
the Framework-res.apk is over 10mb big and won't load (unless i zip it and send it in 2 parts) ... it'll be great if you tell me how to replace the png.
Sure i can we like a user who likes to learn
first you need winrar http://www.rarlab.com/
1. using a root file manager (this is a good free one http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=30417) copy your framewor-res.apk from system/framework to your internal or external SD Card
2. Copy it off the SD to your pc.
3. open the framework-res.apk on your pc with winrar
4. Navigate to drawable-hdpi
5. drag the modified stat_notify_voicemail.png i attached into drawable-hdpi leave all the options as they are and press ok.
4. copy the framework-res.apk bk to system/framework *you might get a force close or random reboot (dont worry its normal)
5. when phone has rebooted navigate to system/framework and change the permissions to as per my pic.
6.reboot
7.???
8. Profit
Hope that made sense!
Never will the voice mail icon annoy you again
My upload didnt work properly ive rar'd it up hopefully will work better this time
no matter what i do or use it won't let me edit (over write - replace - rename) the framework-res.apk file.
i replaced the png but can't replace the whole apk
PS: is there a way to permanently stop the Voice mail. (like uninstall the functionality from the phone)
You need to set your file system to writable, try this.
1. Download es file explorer from the market
2. In options tick root explorer
3. Tick mount file system as writable
4. Copy the file using es explorer
-possible reboot
5. go bk to system/framework in es explorer
6. long press the file - properties and change permissions to match my pic
6. reboot
hopefully that should sort it and you still get voicemail
ps. this shouldn't need saying but im gonna say it anyways, make sure you have a CWM recovery backup first just incase something goes wrong and you can restore

Make ur own dialer on the go

MAKE UR OWN DIALER
hi frndz i was for long thinking how to simplify making ur own dialer on the go, so after help from Henk (team-member) i made smthing that might interest all.
Ok so lets get to steps.
1. Make sure u have sdk installed.
2. Download the cdt.rar from(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261877).
3. Extract the zip and open it, you will find 5 folders.
4. The folder update dialer is one containing the images of buttons and the folder update res contains a single image of dialer background.
5. Edit the images as you like without changing the size and name.
6. connect the fone and run cdt_extreme.bat file.
7. Once done and fone rebooted u can see ur creativity.
8. For example i used following three files
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
-> As dialer bg
-> When u press dialer button it turns like this.
-> Left this transparent to generate max effect.
here is after what i got mixing the files above
9. plz plz plz if this has made u happy hit thnx button. and i wanna thank henk for his awsome help.
10. Dt forget to share ur work with others..
IMP : In folders there is a folder named original, this contains original files from ur present rom keep this safe and if u wanna revert back simply run recovery.bat also keep in mind that running will erase the original files created in first run so be careful to keep safe first run files.
woah this this sweet! THANKS will try when I have time
Sweeeeeeet!!!! I am going to try this as soon as I get home. This is the kind of thing I like to see on xda.

what os u using? and smthng seems to b wrong with ur sys files on system...try on different system...ppl have made dialers and working cool
Running XP. I extracted it to the desktop and I have 7zip in my program files so I don't know what's wrong.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
The problem is he made the package to only work on Windows x64. If you use x32:
copy 7zip.exe & 7zip.dll
FROM: Program Files/7zip
TO: cdt/stuff
Obviously, you want to replace the original files.
This could be fixed by making two copies of the batch file, each pointing to a different directory that holds the 7zip for that OS version.
Thanks for this, had a little fun with mine!
All my images are in the zip below but you would need to put them in the right spots.

I'm closing this thread because there are quite a few guides about the same subject. But to the rest of you, stop making others feel terrible for sharing even if the guide has been made several times. The bullying really needs to stop.

Color Gmail notifier icon request

I really did give it a try but It didn't work. I tried to change the icon from a file I pulled out of the Gingeritis Thunderbolt rom that I was using before I switched to the GN2. I just don't know enough about making these changes. Can anyone out there help?
I'd like the red and white icon to replace the plain grayish icon in the notification bar when I get new email (gmail).

This is a great request. Plus 1
+2 for this I would gladly donate
agree OP has made a great request
I'm running Beans stock deodexed
Does anyone at least have a link for a tutorial so I can give it another try?
sorry I can't help but I'm ready to donate if you can get it working
so what you want is that your email notification look like that?
Yes. But that opens another issue because notifications have a dark tint when you add color to them.

This is actually the image that resembles the current gmail icon used in the notification bar. With the envelope closed. I think the one with the envelope open is used in the app.

I take no responsibility for any harm that may come to your phone trying this.
You must be rooted for this to work
check out the links at the bottom on this post for ninjamorph stuff
****The new image must be the same size as the old image for this to work****
I was able to get the notification changed using ninjamorph and rootexplorer.
1. rename your image stat_notify_email.png
2. Open ninjamorph and start a new project.
3. go to data/app/com.google.android.gm-1.apk
4. When you click it, it should extract the folder.
5. On the next screen click copy it(lower right corner).
It should tell you where the copy was saved. For me it was on my phone storage in androidthemes/workspace
From there i went to rootexplorer( you could also do this part on your computer).
1. open androidthemes/workspace/com.google.android.gm-1.apk/res
2. Locate these file:
drawable-hdpi,
drawable-mdpi,
drawable-sw600dp-hdpi,
drawable-sw600dp-mdpi,
drawable-sw600dp-xhdpi,
drawable-xhdpi
3. This may just be an extra step but i went through each of these files and added .bak to the end of each original image so it looked like this: stat_notify_email.png.bak (this will keep the original as a backup in the folder).
4. Copy/paste the new image named stat_notify_email.png into each of these folders.
If you don't rename the files when you paste you will just replace the original.
5. Once you have placed the image in all the file you will go back to ninjamorph and click finish project.
6. Click the com.google.android.gm-1.apk
7. It will then create package
8. It will ask if you are sure you want to replace the .apk....click yes
9. It will ask if you want to optimize using zipalign...click yes
10. It will ask if you want to clean up/delete project...Click yes or no(up to you)
11. Once it is done, reboot phone and it should have the new notification icon but it will have a dark tint from the notification bar.
I have not done that much with ninjamorph so there probably is a shorter way to do all this.
Here are a couple links to using ninjamorph:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uD0o52typs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=674604
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/d...ninjamorph-change-notification-bar-icons.html
Hopefully this works for you.
Excellant write up for those wantign to try some of this..
