[Q] Spigen clear ultra hybrid case, best case for Z2? - Xperia Z2 Accessories

Hey guys
I'm on the lookout for a great looking case for the Z2, I need it to take scratches only, I don't want shock protection as much. I found spigen ultra hybrid to be totally transparent, good on safety too?! Any users can shed some light on this case? Worth a buy?
Thanks in advance guys!

Is that so? I was planning to buy this case, but I also want to use dock.
So, it's a no?

Ended up buying the case, pretty good quality and I don't use the charging dock so that wasn't an issue, although the flimsy bit near the sim card slot is a let down, I wouldn't recommend it just because of that

I have this case and I love it. That flimsy bit is no big deal as it's not really in a place where protection from bumps or scratches is really an issue. For charging, I used an Xacto knife and a Dremmel to make an opening that works with the standard magnetic charging cables that you can find on Amazon. However, due to case thickness, the dock WILL NOT work with the case on regardless of the custom opening I made or how you adjust the dock. That being said, I only use the dock on my nightstand and my home office desk. At work or on the road (including in the car) I have magnetic charging cables. The thing I really like about this case is that it comes off and goes on SO EASY, yet still fits snugly once on. That makes it a simple task to pop it out of the case (3 seconds tops) at night or at my desk to put in the dock.
HTH.

Spigen always provide the best case of the Hero model devices!! I using the Neo Hybrid of my Note 3 also, planning to get Xperia Z2.

I had the case but returned it after a week. It makes the phone extra bulky and big that doesn't feel right or comfortably in my hands. My phone I now naked with a carbon fiber skins all the way around and I think that is the best combo there is

[Q] Please help me pick a protective case for my Neo

I'm soon hoping to get a new protective case and I need your help picking one.
I would have posted ebay links but I'm not allowed to yet so a question for which material is best will have to suffice I guess.
So what will afford me the best protection? TPU? Gel? Hard Plastic? Rubber? Silicone? something else (leather cases are too cumbersome so I've already eliminated them)?
I'm currently eyeing a few TPU or Gel cases but I'm not sure whether they offer enough protection (as a material).
Any and all help is welcome and appreciated.
I looked for one of these for my new neo - my X10 lived in one for over a year and has survived a number of falls perfectly in tact:
Capdase Alumor X10 Case
Unfortunately, they don't seem to do one. This was the next best that I found:
Case-mate Barely There Xperia neo
Doesn't have full wrap around the edges like the Capdase case did, but seems good. Screen protector that came with the neo seems good too so am sticking with that one for now.
You can get a case from Momax that's very similar to your old one from Capdase. I'd provide an ebay link or even just a link to Momax but I can't provide links yet.
I'm currently eyeing a $5 TPU case but please do let me know about that Armour case is working for you.
Something like "impexo Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo Mt15i Case Cover Skin Pouch Shell 'S' type Unbreakable TPU Protection Gel- Black" on Amazon (since I can't provide the link googling that should do)
I'm just not sure if it's strong enough.
Also does the Neo already come with a screen protector? So I don't need to buy an extra one?
Case-mate's working fine at the moment. My neo came with a screen protector and HDMI cable...

Lucky over there, my dad's neo came with no screen protector or hdmi cable and I had to buy them separately.
The Capdase case looks pretty cool, if there was one like those for the neo I'd get one too. I got him a case with a belt clip, but it wasn't neo-specified so it's not a perfect fit (still pretty good) and the magnet makes the compass go weird at times
my xperia neo did came with hdmi and screenprotector
It seems to be a region thing whether you get that stuff bundeled or not, for instance GSMArena when they reviewed the phone got one without the cable and screen protector.
Still not sure which direction to go with the case but I'll probably try my luck with TPU first, failing that I can always get an Armour case or something more protective.
I don't have a case for my Neo. It's 2 month old now, and there are many very small scratches on the back, but those are quite visible, as well as some scratches above the screen, which are not so visible.
It would be nice if I can just have some protective translucent foil, like a screen protector, on the back. Especially the part between the camera and the SE logo is very vulnerable for scratches.
My screen has NO scratches, quite amazed for that, after 2 months without any cases. Who needs Gorilla glass ?
I don't have time to check if that's been said before, but the Neo come with a protective film already applied on its screen, and a spare one in the box.
At least mine did. I also had the HDMI cable bundled in. (I bought the phone without contract, at full price)
As for the case, I bought a cheap one on the bay, and I find it perfect for daily use.
Numerous sellers offers it, here are two links :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silicone-Ca...118882?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2c5d043922
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silicone-Ca...193542?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4159c89bc6
Pros:
- It protects most of the case,
- It's easy to get the Neo out if needed (to access the battery, sim or SD),
- It's not ugly (at least in black),
- It prevents the phone to slip on smooth surfaces.
- It offers access to all buttons, as well as HDMI, USB and Jack ports (Although keys like volume require a slighty different touch to work)
- Really low price!
Cons:
- It reduces the gestures possibility for apps like Swipepad. It's still useable, but trickier for left, top and right edge gesture. Bottom gestures are unaltered by this case.
- Could benefit from a better finish, but for the low price it's certainly asking too much.
Do you feel that such a case would protect the Neo against a small accidental drop as well or do you think I need hard plastic for that?

I also bought the phone without a contract (€350), and I only had a Greenheart soft-paperlike material case (and the usual stuff: headset & charger & 8GB sd card). I thought that only the Arc had a HDMI cable bundled.
I feel it's enough to prevent damage from low height accidental dropping on a flat surface. The only part that can get damaged that way is the battery cover, but you can buy spare ones so it's no big deal.
However the best protection for this kind of device would be a full leather case, as the screen is probably the weakest piece. It's just not convenient enough for me, hence the choice of such a case.
A leather case is definitely out. It adds too much bulk and it gets in the way when taking pictures for instance (well the flip type does allow space for the camera and the screen so you can see what you're doing but the flaps then just sort of flops about at the side annoyingly). And as such my phone would likely spend most of the time outside the leather case which would make it all rather pointless.
So no the only categories are Hard Plastic/Armour, TPU or Gel, Rubber or Silicone or a hybrid between TPU and hard plastic.
i like this one

Finally got my Neo today and it did indeed come with the HDMI cable but I don't see a screen protector so I guess they left that out.
I'll have to get one with whatever protective case I'm getting. Currently thinking of ordering both a TPU/Gel case and a Armour/Hard Plastic case since they're so cheap. It'll still be a while before I get them though.
Just ordered "Zagg Invisible Shield". Since the Xperia neo version isn't released in my area, I have to wait while they deliver it to the dealer. Now, I'm seeing slight scratches on the back already and I just got my phone early this month.
Anyone know if it's safe to use a mild polish to reduce the scratches before they apply the film? I'm thinking of ultra fine carnauba wax or CD polish. And not too hard--just enough to make them barely noticeable.

Will the Sony cover stand for the Z2 fit on the Z?

Was looking for a new case for my XTZ.
It's hard to find one that's either not ugly or super thick.
This one for the XTZ2 would be perfect, and not too expensive as well.

Using a XTZ2 case for a XTZ may or may not work, it would be a gamble because the XTZ2 is slightly thinner than the XTZ. If you can purchase from Amazon.com, a Poetic Slimline Case for the XTZ would be a good choice.
I considered the poetic slimline case but it's similar to the one I have (Labato), which is a bit flimsy. Also the cover doesn't really stay in position so the screen on/off doesn't work.
The Incipio Lexington hard case seems sturdy but would make the tablet feel a bit too thick.
Hoping that someone with an XTZ has tried any snap on case for the XTZ2 and would know how it would fit.

I believe you will find a noticeable difference of quality when comparing Poetic's products to Labato's.

Ok,checked out the master list of all accessories thread. The problem I have with the poetic case is the issue with it not being properly designed to accomodate the charging flap.
So hard to find a decent case. Most cases make the tablet quite thick which defeats the purpose of having a thin tablet.
The Roxfit case needs tape and from where I am it costs about 60 usd which is around the same price as the Sony one for the Z2.

latest version of Poetic case has hole for charging cable/flap.
Unfortunately the Z tablet doesn't fit into the Style Cover Stand SCR12 properly. I'm thinking about customizing the cover to make it fit, I just need some drilling tools.

Hi hemicz,
Thanks for that. Also everyone else for replying.
I did a bit of a test by putting in a few pieces of paper into my existing case to see if a slightly thicker tablet would fit in it.
It didn't fit. So, together with confirmation from you I think I'll just get the Roxfit book case because of it's thinness.
Will probably end up using the Tablet until the Z3 comes out.
Cheers.

i would definitely buy it but there isn't any cut for the magnetic charger, don't feel like opening the flappy microSD and charger every time for charging.
Slip your Sony Xperia Z2 into this custom fit Matte Back Black TPU Case by Diztronic and experience the peace of mind of knowing your investment is well protected. Flexible, yet stronger and more durable than silicone, TPU offers excellent shock absorption and abrasion resistance while maintaining a thin form factor.
Just bought one
I just ordered a matte black Diztronic case from their website listed by the OP. I haven't even received my new-to-me-but-used Xperia yet, but I'm thinking ahead! I have the same type of Diztronic case on my Nexus 4 and it's been absolutely great for over 1.5 years use, and a handful of good drops. I do wish the cutout was there for the magnetic charger, but I still wanted to see what it was like, maybe even cut that section out by hand if the rest of the case makes it good enough to keep.
Love it, but...

FWIW, after a few months, I love this Diztronic case...except I do dislike taking the phone out of the case to charge in my dock. It's not annoying enough for me to use something else, however, as this case is really perfect fitting, durable, not slippery, and looks nice if you like the matte finish. The other slim case I bought has a cutout for the charging dock, but still doesn't actually fit (with either spacer option). I'd have to 3D print a custom cradle spacer with additional clearance on one side, and that's not worth it. So, alas, I will probably continue to just take it out of the case every night. I will say that since battery life is so good on this phone, I pretty much never have to charge during the day, so never have to open the micro-usb cover, or take the case off to use the magnetic charger adapter (which I usually only use for traveling).
Simple and good~

Zperia Z3 Case-Mate Slim Tough Review

In short, I am extremely disappointed in this case and feel ripped off for having to paying $30 for a case that is worth, at MOST $5.Pictures: http://imgur.com/a/jYJuw#0
Pros:
Visually attractive at a glance.
Buttons do work.
Case leaves enough room for large headphone plugs to fit with ease.
Although I do not have a magnetic charger, there appears to be plenty of room for it to fit as long as the adapter isn't too wide.
Cons:
Bumper is plastic and very flimsy. I fully except it to shatter if my phone is ever dropped.
Extremely overpriced for the quality of case provided.
Buttons feel cheap (I can't believe they are metal), are loosely fitted, meaning they rattle when phone is shook.
The part of the bumper closest to the screen that surrounds the USB port and magnetic charger is very very fragile and can be moved almost to the point of snapping without much effort.
After picking up my T-Mobile Z3 on Wednesday I quickly went online to find a case to protect my phone. I was very much disappointed to find that there are hardly any quality cases available, especially in the US. After researching a bit, it seemed like Case-Mate was the best option there was and I put in an order for the Slim Tough.
My case came today (Saturday) and after using it for a few hours I have written this review.
If you have any questions, please ask.

Wow this is extremely disappointing I was really looking foward to getting mine on Monday. Do you feel it is at least better protection then the Ringke Fusion (as I know you have that too. It is such a shame a nice phone like the Z3 has such limited case options.

I actually do not have the Ringke Fusion so I cannot make a proper comparison.
I do know that the rubber TPU on this case is the best part and offers good protection against scratches and light bumps. It also would offer the most protection against a drop as it would absorb most of the impact. The bumper (which keeps the TPU on), on the other hand, will offer no protection and will likely shatter or break upon impact.

I agree, I'm sometimes hard on my devices. This looked like possibly a replacement for the Otterbox Commuter I used on another phone - thin and durable. Still looking for something similar.

I will give my thoughts on Monday when I get my hands on mine but I do have a feeling I will feel the same. I guess I will be atleast a little happy if its better then the Ringke Fusion I have right now (which isn't going to be hard to top) Then I can continue my search for an even better case.
Lets hope in the coming month we have some better options It's good that T Mobile is selling the phone as that might help get some people making some cases but it stinks there is no main stream companies other then case-mate making a case for the Z3.

I have to say I feel nearly the same as Christian, Looking at it it does look like a nice case but digging deeper you find some issues.
The buttons are extremely cheap and do rattle and have no clickyness to them what so ever. the plastic bumper does feel flimsy but I don't think it would crack if dropped because of the TPU behind it. However I think if you took the case off the wrong way and bent it it could easily crack. I also don't like the bulkyness it added to the width of the phone. Before I was using the case (and even with the Rinke Fusion the phone felt nice in the hand but now with the case it feels overly wide.
It does with with the Nilkin Tempered Glass Screen Protector (Barely) which is nice and I have a feeling will work with my magnetic connector (will test when I get home.
Overall I think I like it a little better then Christian and will use it over my Rinke Fusion (because I feel it has better protection) I will still be on the lookout for another case which after spending as much as I did on the case-mate is disappointing.
Overall I give it a 5/10
Well unfortunately this case is completely dead for me as it does not work with the magnetic charger port even with the cutout so back to the Rinke for me.
Where did you get the case from online? It's temporarily unavailable on Casemate's website and I can't find it anywhere else besides MobileFun (whose shipping is ridiculous)
Ebay matey.
But i'm form the UK, so it may well differ for you.

I got mine from the US Caste Mate store.
I just bought mine today at one of the sony stores here in Malaysia. I have to agree with what Christian has pointed out. The buttons feel cheap and it has the loose sound which makes it feel cheap despite the price of it. I am a fan of Spigen casing because of the hybrid colors and full protection in all corners and this case mate slim tough is the closest fit I found to Spigen. But having it on can't fit into my magnetic charging dock without removing the cover which I think it will break some day.. Now I just remove the dock holder and did some DIY card board to charge it with the casing on
I guess I will switch to Ringke Fusion soon and let my 90 bucks burns.. Ouch..
---------- Post added at 05:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:21 PM ----------
Btw, I decided to sell it out, who wants it can PM me. Thanks
The un symetrical looking back just bothers me. I am waiting for Spigen to give some Z3 love.

Question for the case "collectors"

For those that have 4 or more cases, what's your favorite? Believe it or not, one of my favs cost me nothing. I had ordered a case off ebay and received the wrong color. No biggie, except I should get what I ordered. I filed a case about it, and got refunded and didn't have to return the case I got.
Anyway, it is a "cheap" chinese case that looks awesome (to me) and has decent protection. As many cases as I have, it's funny that the free one is my fav. Btw, here it is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/18172353505...49&var=480675456481&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Awesome gripability, and decent protection. Plus I dig how it looks. Yours?
For me I'd have to say the spigen ultra hybrid. Yeah it is hard to not know what buttons are which but you get used to it. I had ringke but that is a little more flimsy but also good. Port covers were kinda annoying.

Definitely my 2 favorite. (I like making my own back covers and the Ringke and Spigen let me use the same ones in either one.)
Here's my two cents...
Port covers: I'm on the fence with this one. I like the fact they are protected. Yay. I use mainly my wireless charger so I don't care as much about the USB one. I DO, however, play music through my aux jack in my car whenever I'm driving and it does get annoying.
Verdict: No port covers. If you use your headphone jack often, like I do, and if you use a Meenova Dash, like I do, the port covers are annoying.
Buttons: Ringke has the buttons down for sure. The Spigen, and Obliq, not so much.. Actually, it might as well be flush because I don't know where the hell they are regardless.
Verdict: Ringke hands down.
Summary: 1.) Use the Ringke and cut the port covers off, or 2.) Do what I did and modify the Spigen. (I like the sleekness of the Spigen on the back. No ridge around the Nexus part, so I can make covers showing Nexus, or hiding it with seamless coverage. I also like the Spigen dimple on the "M" for some reason.) There's a million ways you can do it, but I went with something totally ghetto and quick, but highly functional. Grab some 2mm 3M double sided adhesive and attach a nipple of your choice to desired buttons. In my case, I went for the first thing I saw and clipped off a little piece of an old sim card and stuck it on there. 6 days and counting, and still on there!
