[Q] [P769] Best ROMs for LG P9 P769? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Noob here! I'm getting ready to try my hand at rooting and unlocking the bootloader on the LG P769 that my friend gave me. I'm somewhat tech savvy, but some of the rooting and unlocking guides are a bit confusing to me. Not too confusing to turn me away though. At any rate, I'm looking for a good ROM to use with my P769 before I root and unlock. From what I've researched so far, the P769 isn't as easy as most other phones. Especially, seeing as mine is running v20H even after a hard reset of the phone. All I've heard so far about rooting and unlocking P76920H is "Damn you LG!" There is one thread I keep coming across (and losing track of because I forget to bookmark it ) with lots of colorful lettering that looks promising to me. Maybe because I'm a noob, maybe because I like colorful shiny things... Who knows, but I think I'm ready to try it if I can find it again.
Back to the subject at hand, I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a ROM for my LG P769 US T-Mobile once I get around to rooting and unlocking it. I'd love to be able to just use the v20H firmware with app2sd enabled. Wondering also if any type of Nexus software, preferably 4.4.2? would run on it? I'm sure I'll receive some "Stupid Noob!!" comments, but I'll accept them with gratitude, as I am new to this and studying the ins and outs of how all this rooting and unlocking stuff works. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I've done a little research on official and unofficial ROMs for the P769, but everyone with this phone seems to feel forgotten because there are lots of mods for the other P9 models and the P769 is like an unhatched goose egg. I love the phone, just want to get rid of all the bloatware and enable app2sd support. Perhaps rooting, toying with SuperUser and flashing the app2sd enabling scripts would be my best route? hehe... help! please?
Thanks for reading. Hope I'm posting in the right spot. They said Android questions big and small.
Recommendations on LG P769 ROMs anyone?

there's a thread on Google now. we need to deodex our rom for it.
T-Mobile LG Optimus L9 P769?
We really need a concise thread with links to what works on T-mobile P769.
But what's a P769BK? I mean I did buy mine off some guy from craigslist and did meet him at Burger King, that count?
Rooting was slight maze with a few steps outta place or missing tiny details.
Do we have an easier bootloader unlock, other than looking in the mirror and doing the hokey pokey?

BK is the T-mobile version of the L9.
And no I don't think there is an easier way to unlock the bootloader besides the 'hokey pokey' one
Whenever we do get the JB update though, we might have more options.
The P769 P769bk and P769bkgo are all the same phone they are wind mobile t-Mobile and T-Mobile prepaid respectively.

videos would help
I would like to try and unlock my bootloader on my p769. I've unrooted and rerooted my phone twice now so I'm use to flashing the kdz files. I think it would be easier if someone made a video showing how the mirrored image and "wonky" touchscreen actually look. Plus seeing a video with someone showing the steps would be very beneficial. The forums are great though. Lots of information here.
Sorry if I had time I'd make a video for you. Its really not super hard dealing with the inverted touch it just takes a while to figure out where you're touching vs where it registers. If you touch on the left it registers on the right side etc. And it is inverted vertically as well but not in exactly the same way the threshold isn't perfectly center.
Some guy in another thread said he heard from a reliable source we're getting JB update April 24th. I don't know how reliable his info is. Also the Mexican P768 just got the jb update minus the code to unlock the boot loader. If T-Mobile did the same thing it would not surprise me at all.
So in summation wait or don't wait

Rooting LG V10

Hello everyone.
I was recommended to check these forums so I decided to create an account.
I have had my LG V10 for almost three weeks now and I love it. I have the T-Mobile version. I came from iPhone and I always had my phone jailbroken. I wish to root my LG V10 for more freedom and to get rid of those pesky ads.
Can someone link me to a guide that will assist me in rooting my T-Mobile LG V10? I haven't been able to find anything anywhere else. Also, I would love to know what can I do or what are the things that people recommend to do after the phone is rooted.
Again, it is my first time on Android so help me out, please.
Thanks!
Sincerely,
Mrs Ana.

Thanks for that.
I apologize for being new. I clearly do not understand what is being said there lol. I know what rooting is but I don't know how to follow the directions and in what order.
Can you please tell me what I have to do first? If there is a step-by-step guide, that would be awesome. I am trying to root my T-Mobile LG V10.
Thanks and again, sorry. I just do not want to mess it up.
I think you're going to have to do some googling and reading about adb first if you aren't already familiar with it.
I'm no expert. Still running stock here and havent rooted a phone since my original HTC g1 and HTC g2.
Sent from my pretty nifty brand new LG V10
Not sure if you have seen it yet but at the bottom of the LG-V10 posts there is a T-Mobile LG-V10 link you might look in there that may help you out also good luck and keep asking questions no question is to dumb.

Help rooting LG G Vista 2 (H740) AT&T

I have been trying to find a root method that will work on my AT&T LG G Vista 2 H740. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Yeah this affordable and very capable device seems to have been overlooked. It runs 5.1.1 and would be an awesome root and ROM project.
Bump
Anything yet? I received my lg g vista 2 in the mail and was excited to go on xda to root it. Nothing yet?
I believe I've found a couple exploits that I could take advantage of. I'll update every couple days or so on my progress. I've been messing around on my Vista 2 and it seems like a fun and simple enough project. I'll be back with updates!

Thank you! I'm mostly dying to root so I can tether wifi to my 2yr olds tablet. When we're in the car it's a lifesaver! :good:
Sesrch google for "Kingroot apk"
Bump on this thread. Nobody is noticing because nobody cares about this handset. This unit is most likely exploitable by anything that works on the G3. I am desperate to get root because I am sick of the random reboots. Any brave souls want to try the G3 exploits?
I'm going to necro this because I think plenty of people still want to see a root method for this phone.
Guys I have a question. What is the code you put in the dialer for the hidden menu? I know this thing is very capable but at the moment my LG G2 beat this thing out of the water. even though this thing has better specs than the G2,why is it lagging so much? any help would be appreciated as I just got this and if it is a POS, I can return it within 12 days regards, ~Sky
I'm gonna refer to earlier suggestion to try kingroot.
It will likely work in rooting the Vista 2.
Believe it or not, kingroot didn't work :/ I tried it like 3 times and they all fail
I've tried King Root multiple times without any luck. I really wish someone would find an exploit for this phone. If you could clean all the bloatware off, it would help it out tremendously. And without thinking the other day, I installed the Marshmallow update, so I'm sure it's going to take a little while to find an exploit for it.
Yes I'm hoping someone comes up with an exploit soon. I really want this phone to have a cpu control app because I know it has the potential to be fast but the cpu won't allow it. Also I'd really like to have the lucky patcher work. If ANYONE has an exploit, please post it here. How do we get this thread more noticed on XDA?
I will pay money for Root and Cyanogen Mod-G Vista 2
Currently using the AT&T LG G Vista 2 and the phone would be fantastic with Cyanogen Mod so anyone want to take this on and I will send you via PayPal $50.00 to get it rooted and working with Cyanogen Mod. Anyone else care to add to that so we can make it worthwhile for a good DEV???
Bump
What is bump and who do I do it

We're you ever successful in any of the exploits you tried to root the LG G Vista 2? I'm just wondering because I have been looking for almost a month for ANYTHING on the subject only to have no luck.
Kingroot, as well as Kingo root, iRoot, One-Click Root, root genius, and any of the other One-Click apk's, as well as their companion PC Software's, do NOT thus far. And if anyone knows where to get the original firmware of the LG G Vista 2, which is the Android 5.1.1 version, it would be greatly appreciated! I have searched hi and low, and have yet to find it.

Has anyone tried the G3 exploits yet? I'd be interested to know if it works.
I cannot find the firmware either, and if anyone knows how to root it, I would love it :3 I'm literally putting my G Vista 2 aside because it's useless without root tbh. I'm on my G2 with CM but it's falling apart -_- so yeah

Newbie Help - Need To Find a New Verizon Phone To Root

I'm new to the XDA forums and need some guidance. I need a fairly new Verizon based phone that supports screen casting and that can be rooted. I was considering the HTC 10 but saw a thread indicating that it could not be rooted for Verizon phones as of yet because USB debugging was hidden (or something to that effect). So, I thought about the LG V10 but I cannot find any directions or videos relating to the Verizon model. It doesn't have to be any of these models. I could go for a Samsung as well but I heard they are harder to root? I really don't know. Basically, if someone could point me to a VZW phone that is relatively new and that can be rooted with directions, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!
Anybody?

P769 Bootloader Unlock - is it possible?

This is probably the most desperate post i've made on XDA. I'm not entirely sure if I'm following the forum rules, so I'm sorry if this violates any.
I've got an Optimus L9, model P769BKGO, manufactured March 22nd, 2013. My current understanding is if I have an L9 that was manufactured after June of the same year, the bootloader is encrypted, preventing me from unlocking it. I did work on the phone a while back, and found that it's running the P760's V10b Europe firmware. The bootloader appears to be set up properly, the screen is inverted and "flipped" horizontally as it's supposed to be according to all the tutorials i could find. There's only one problem I'm coming across.
The next step I can find is to flash the radio and connect to mobile data, leaving it connected for 30 minutes or more. I've tried to flash the radio, and it hasn't fixed the modem issues that comes with flashing the firmware to V10b EO. I have an active SIM in it as i'm supposed to, but I can't flash it to another firmware to restart the process because if I do, I have no working links for any of the tools/firmwares I need. They all either pull up a 404 or just don't exist, for example the "All in One" MEGA links in the more popular bootloader unlocking threads.
The Optimus L9 forum has been noticably dead for a while now, but i don't see any better place to seek help. Hopefully someone here can lend me a hand in finding the firmware versions I need to get this done.
If I have learned anything from xda-developers since 2004 when I got my first Windows Mobile smartphone: yes. it IS possible. And MORESO., where there is a will, there is a way.
That said, I've got a couple LG-P769's I'd like to root, so if I dig anything up that works, I'll let you know. Otherwise, my skills as a developer do not extend to reverse engineering (especially encrypted(!)) bootloaders. Creating a custom ROM is more up my alley, and something I may do if we find it is necessary

I wish I saw this sooner, but I think I can help you out with rooting them. There's something called LGPwn that you might find useful. If it works for you, it'll work well. There's also this one recovery installer that I use, although it's not very up to date... nonetheless, it works too. If I have any custom roms laying around that have dead links, I'll do my best to supply them just in case (since devhost isn't a thing anymore, almost all links here are dead).
Best of luck

While I don't want to jack this thread, I wanted to comment that LGPwn worked well for me and thanks for the links. I am a bit new to all of this, and I couldn't seem to find any ROMS that would work with the old phone newer than andriod 5.1 - thus also taking the chance here to ask given your already very neat help, if, unlike what I believe - I can use ROMS not made for the phone?

I'm suuuuper late on replying to this (I don't mind the bump though), you can use ROMs developed for the p760 as well, although I can't say I'm on familiar territory anymore. My L9 is in the drawer now, since I can't find a way to properly unlock the bootloader. They say there's supposed to be special software available, but that software has since been wiped off the net.
Regardless, I hope that helps.
