Heloo i want to buy the z2 (coming from lg g2) but i am a little concerned about buying this phone:
1. How bad does this phone heat up will this affect the back glass by cracking or lifting the glass because of the heat genereated.
2.will the phone shut off if the temperature is to high.
3.how bad is the magnetic port loose.
4. How does the glass manage scratches and how shaterproof is it?
I hope you can answer my questions, my bigest concern is the heat makeing the phone unusable and the back glass adeshive working the glass.

1. Phone doesn't get any hotter than any other device I've owned, undervolting improves this even further, no issues with cracking glass or anything else
2. No, it will throttle performance and stop you from using the camera
3. No issue here.
4. Same as any other phone I'd assume, I use a tempered glass protector and it has 0 scratches so far and I often slide or toss my phone to people

Oops, thanked you by mistake. if heat generated cracks the back glass this is a defect in the device and would warrant an FOC replacement by Sony so don't sweat it.
Phone get hot when you use under sun
But if you paly in the room it just warm

1) If you manage to buy the "lemon" which heats up, you can probably get lots of problems related to overheating, which may be the cracked glass and others. I would say it is a small percentage of Z2's, though. Majority of people who have a good phone just don't bother to come here and praise how great it is.
2) Mine did not overheat to the point of shut down, the warmest it got was CPU around 65 degrees and battery 44.5 degrees Ceslius. This was when I was shooting a timelapse in the sun of a rising sun, an hour of footage and surrounding temperature of around 23 degrees Celsius.
3) Mine is not loose, I have been using my magnetic charging for one week and no problems so far.
4) Mine has not managed to scratch and will not be. I have never scratched any screen of any of my phones and I had Samsung Galaxies, HTC ONe and all kept in pockets.
Your questions are too paranoid, like everyone had those problems with their phones... Keep in mind 95-98% of all phones are just fine...
I'm not sure that 98% is actually an acceptable quality level for a flagship device. However it is Sony's decision as to spend more for the remaining 1-2%.
That said, no device is 100% perfect, and if someone is unsatisfied, there is still a possibility to replace it.
I'm happy with my Z2 and I have no intention to send it back.

how can a 100gr phone have the power to in 1meter, smash an "almost" indestructible glass? what the **** was that?

I agree with jamesd, it is like a windshield on a car, it will not shatter. Also, Gorilla glass is not indestructible, just much harder to scratch and break. go look at the website!
is there a possible it can be a refurb w/o gorila glass? gonna try to find the cam now, if i cant, i will take some pics tomorrow with my girlfriend phone

You mean just for cost reasons? Its not indestructible, but theres no doubt its better than regular glass.
Cant be scrached doesnt mean it cant be shattered. It all depends on the material's physical property. Nexus s would be ur best bet for t mobile or vibrant 4g

Gorilla Glass is much stronger than regular glass but is not unbreakable. It's strength also depends on how thick it is, which varies from one application to the next. If Samsung used a thinner layer either because of expense or to keep the device thinner, it may explain why these screens tend to shatter pretty easily. I will say that I've had my phone for 6 months, have never used a screen protector, and don't have a single scratch anywhere on the screen.

the problem is that i not live in us, and this phone doesnt have support by samsung here, so i will have to buy the lcd+digitizer and fix it myself, ending in about 130 usd

Dude get the nexus s, roms and over clocks are gonna be sick. plus they curved the screen a bit, so if it falls, the edges of the phone hit the floor instead of the screen.
Gorilla glass is scratch proof but not more resistant the breakage. And the fact that the glass is end to end, an impact on the side can travel to the side of the glass, where its most susceptible to breaking into pieces, like it happened to you...
I did throw my phone twice on the wall out of anger, didn't happen to my phone luckily... Ur drop must be a peculiar type directly at the weakest point... Silicon cases, ur best bet next time... I had one on when I threw the phone...

Dude, Gorilla glass is a mix-design that makes the glass surface very hard and the material 3 times more flexible than normal glass........BUT.... it still is glass and if you drop any glass and it hits just right .....the glass breaks. Since this type of glass is also a tempered variety when it breaks it shatters.
Me ? I have dropped my phone from 10 feet and nothing so, I ll chalk it up to you being lucky........or unlucky I should say............

You threw you vibrant not one but two times on the wall and still it survived while this guy only dropped it once and always kept it safe yet had it shatter to pieces with the first unfortunate accident.

Welp I shattered my screen. I have insurance for it and my new one is already on the way. I am going to return it to the stock rom, but was wondering if there is a way to remove TWRP and get the stock secure kernel back. I know it will still say tampered/relocked but does anybody think there will be any issues when they get this one back?

It is actually very sturdily built. I got a door slammed on my hand (which was holding the phone) and I dropped it onto asphalt from a height of about 6 feet. It landed almost completely flat with the glass facing down. Just bad luck on my part. I ordered a case for it, but it hadn't arrived yet. The back of the phone is covered in a silicone that is very grippy. I will say the glass on the front is EXTREMELY slick. It curves to the edges so there is no plastic or metal of any sort on the front panel. Its solid glass. When I set it on top of my closed laptop while face down it will gradually slide off even though the incline is just a few degrees away from perpendicular. I don't consider this to be an issue with build quality whatsoever. The only reason I consider it strange is because there is a notification light on the back, but I dont trust it to sit facedown anywhere due to fears that it will slide off just about any surface that isnt 110% flat. It feels better under my thumbs than any other phone I have ever had and the screen seems to resist getting covered in fingerprint smears. Its very stylish and looks gorgeous, just something to be aware of.

You will be fine. If you have insurance, breaking your screen is not any different than bricking your device
Battery Life...
This phone has poor battery life...there is no use of 1080p display when u can't...even hold that power for more than barely one day....

Hi Guys
Been trying to google for my answer, bur haven't found what im looking for.
Basically, I bought a heat plate to start repairing the samsung/htc rang.
But there are a couple of pointers im looking for, so please point me in the right direction if this isn't the place, bit I know there's alot of very helpful/knowlegable people here.
1- im getting mixed temperatures of 60-100 degrees Celsius. Is there a limit?
2- is there a time limit to expose the lcd to such heat? As a beginner on stripping glass, im going to taking my time.
Luckily I have about 5 damaged lcd/glass to play with before doing the real thing.

I would recommend you purchase a heat gun, and a infrared thermometer. 100C is too hot. You want to keep the temperature of the glass between 75 - 85 C. You will need to frequently heat the glass. If you get the glass too hot, you will damage the LCD underneath of it. If it's not hot enough, the glue holding the glass to the body of the phone won't melt, and you risk damaging the LCD.

Thanks, ive actually bought one of those lcd stripping machines, so you set the temperature and clamp the glass/lcd down and use wire to cut through.
I was wondering if I had the temperature set at 75, can a prolonged period of time at this temperature damage the lcd? As we know, when first starting it can take time.

It shouldn't damage it if you keep the heat steadily at 75. It will be low enough that it will melt the glue, but it won't damage the LCD.

My rear glass is starting to separate from the frame in the top right corner.
Has anyone even heard of this problem on this phone?
Talked to Xperia Care today and it's covered under warranty but it's going to be a 14 working day turn around!
They are based in Texas, but since my phone originated from Hong Kong then it may take longer if parts differ.
It's not noticeable in the picture too bad but it's definitely coming apart because I feel the edge of the glass on my hand. Also it goes back in if I push it in but comes out eventually in a short amount of time...

its a known issue, its quite common actualy, i think if you look around some threads you will see alot of posts from unique users
edit- this should be covered by warrenty, Sony Customer Service Japan can conferm for this and same goes with Sony C-Service UK and also USA
I actually have the same problem on my Z2 , i previously owned the Xperia Z where i was experiencing same issue, and yes is covered under warranty....glass becomes unglued and separating from frame because NFC pins pushing the glass out, and phone generating heat during usage and this way the adhesive sticker inside becomes melt and glass starts to go out...this is a known issue even Sony knows about. I was able to hold 5 different Z2s and every one had the same issue, same area, different batch numbers.
The fifth one was yesterday in Orange ( operator) i dont know how to cerrectly call this showpiece? I mean the place where you can grap the phone and play with it... I noticed this problem on this phone....
I was analyzing this problem and i found that first area where it starts to come off is where the big flap is, thats the place where NFC pins are, and it continue to ungluing to the corner exactly like it is on your photo....Come on Sony!! Z1 was proof from this becasue of the middle frame and, this way nothing is pushing the glass out and also adhesive sticker is more wider.... I know what i am talking about i am gsm mechanic i was assembling both devices. But i dont know if you guys understand my English

You are pretty much right about that. My Z2 seems to have this problem in this particular area, I did not return the unit because I assume this eventually happens to all Z2.
Same thing I suffered with my old Z, I still don't understand why Sony does not come up with a better solution than gluing everything together.
I saw xperia z3 leaded pictures and from what seen i can say that z3 got fixed this issue because of different placement of NFC pins they paced them almost in the middle of the motherboard (same as z1) logically its a way better placement in the middle because its more dificult for those pins to lift both sides and top of the glass together at the same time than only right side in z / z2... Btw tomorrow i am going to repair another z2 customer reported this issue...

The adhesive on the glass is really strong but after you heat up the glass, its not so strong then.... Its better to put locktide power flex(super glue) together with adhesive sticker and glue it this way..yeah then its almost impossible to get the glass off as the locktide is less,almost not sensitive to heat. I repaired mine z2 this way,like i sad i am gamer my phone is hot everyday and everithing is okayy

Well I run 3 or 4 times per week and I use Nike+ so the phone gets pretty hot, and since I really don't have the skills to open my phone and glued again I will just ignore this issue (Hopefully is a minor issue) and I'm going to hope Sony has all this fixed by the time Z4 is released.

I had my phone mostly in Sony's charge dock for the last couple of months, using it as a wifi hotspot. When I took it out the other day, I thought the back seemed to bulge a bit. I only had it for ~6 months or so, and I remember thinking that the battery couldn't have gone bad already - since its known that bad batteries start to bulge...
Anyway, took it out of the charger again today to leave the house with it and found that the rear "glass" has separated from the frame by a lot and there's a 3mm gap to the frame on one side.
1) the back seems more flexible than glass would normally be? I think its not actually glass... (I know they build different models for different regions - this was purchased in Hong Kong)
2) if I push the edges of the back to the frame and hold a ruler to the back in either direction, there's a clear bulge forcing the back away from the phone.
3) what besides the battery in a phone can expand to the extent that it will push the rear panel off the phone?
The phone has never been dropped, its in absolutely new condition, aside from this annoying failure to stay together...
Thoughts of going back to Samsung with their swappable batteries are hard to suppress...
UK Warranty Refusing Repair
Hey Guys,
I am having the same issue with my Z2, it's about 8 months old. I sent it off last week and this week I was quoted £350 for a BRAND NEW DEVICE!
I phoned them and asked why and they said that they have deemed it to be accidental damage! They are escalating it currently but I fail to see how it COULD be accidental damage?! I have never dropped the phone or anything...
Can someone on here please confirm that their device was repaired under warranty? If so did you get a receipt/ invoice or anything with it? I would very much appreciate any help with getting Sony to fix my damn phone...

Almost same problem
I just got this Z2 since around 2 months, and just spotted that the rear glass is popping out of the frame. The device international and not under warranty, so will try to get back to Amazon. Any insights?

i have an experia z3 and the backglass and te frond glas got loose dindt get it fixed yet, i think its because the phone gets prity damn hot somtimes and becuase of the heat te glue wil meld and your screen and backcover wil come of and sony still needs to fix this problem
Dropped z2 yday ;/ it was one of my frenchies who jumped on me, phone fall first on screen, than on back glass and finaly landed in dogs water bowl. took it out right away, screen ok, back glass broken and no visible sign of any water entered.
I want to replace the broken glass deck, but to make it so that phone will still be wateproof.. Anyone have any experiance with that? If so, where did you order back glass and did it come with adhesive coating ..?

I got mine off of eBay. You need the back glass and new adhesive.
Phone won't be as waterproof anymore, but I've dipped my phone in the sink fora few seconds without harm.

Does this come with adhesive and would you know how if we can retain nfc? I heard changing the back you lose NFC...

It comes with adhesive. But nfc antenna must be unglued from the old back glass. To do that you have to heat up the glass very well so it won't break or torn off.

You could either buy the plate AND the adhesive thingy (comes separately). Or go my way (slightly risky).
The stock glass plate keeps breaking so I took the measurements and made an Aluminium plate. Then drilled camera holes into it and painted it. Then came the tricky part. I stuck the plate into place using regular epoxy (waterproof) adhesive. You have to be very careful while doing the last part because of obvious reasons tho.
The problem with the adhesive thingy that you get to buy (And also the one that Sony uses in the device) is that although its water proof, it isn't heat resistant. and as we all know how Sony phones heat, the adhesive comes off.

I stuck the plate into place using regular epoxy (waterproof) adhesive. You have to be very careful while doing the last part because of obvious reasons tho.
The problem with the adhesive thingy that you get to buy (And also the one that Sony uses in the device) is that although its water proof, it isn't heat resistant. and as we all know how Sony phones heat, the adhesive comes off.

This is very creative and I sure as hell would like to try my hand at it. How thick was the aluminum?
I bet your phone becomes hot as an iron when gaming haha, which is good for your internals because of better heat dissipation. Any adverse effects on mobile reception? wifi? bluetooth? guess NFC is gone haha

Well, I given my z2 to friend to replace battery and few days ago I left my phone in silk for 10 minutes, because it was dirty and no issue here.

Aluminium is a millimetre thick. It does get hot, yeah.
Mobile reception is same (Maybe a tad bit lower, idk), wifi bluetooth work fine. NFC still intact. I fixed it onto the plate in position.

What if I want to use a 2-mm thick acrylic as my black plate? Is it possible? Because I am afraid that it will exceed the metal frame of the phone and it will ended up looking terrible:crying:
I agree, I think 1.0mm would be more suitable.
At 2mm, you might get an M4 Aqua kind of look hahaha

I believe that if the broken glass was the only issue, and you use a original replacement part, or decent adhesive tape to glue them back together, you'll have no problem. I've had the same issue few weeks ago, replaced the screen and the phone didn't experienced any problem when submerged.
Do anyone now where can I get an official or a good quality back glass for my xperia z2, I broke the original one but i don't want to replace with one without any quality.
buy a nice "glue" to fix that..
