How To:Unbrand Lumia 920 to 8.1 + get ICS and MMS on Straight Talk - Nokia Lumia 920

I've put many hours trying to get this figured out on my AT&T RM-820 running Straight Talk on AT&T towers, so I'm not going to give all the details, but I wanted to help others out who are in my boat.
1) Follow the directions to get to the Rogers ROM.
2) Upgrade to the RM-821 French ROM
3)When it boots and asks which Access Point, select LTE2
4)Add the straight talk APN & MMS info by opening access point again and setting them up
5)Reboot
6)Test MMS (not ICS - internet connection sharing)
7)Reboot
8)Install the Spanish – Spain keyboard
9)Reboot
10)Test ICS and MMS
11)Do all win 8.0 updates via regular update method
12)Reboot, test MMS and ICS
13)Then get the developer preview updates – 1 at a time
14)Test ICS and MMS
15)Reboot
16)Test ICS and MMS
17)Set date to at least 2116 if not higher
18)Try to open “access point” in settings – it will fail – uninstall it
19)Test ICS and MMS
20)Check for more developer updates, repeat
The moral of the story that I learned is that you probably can't change MMS or APN settings after you do this. If you launch access point at any point after the point that I said above, it downloads the message saying you need to call 611 or go to att.com to subscribe to tethering - but since this isn't AT&T service, you can't do that. Never open access point, and if it ever shows up on your phone, set the date to 2116, and launch it to remove it so you never bump it in the settings - I learned the hard way thinking "I'll just never open this". I know there are lots of reboots in there - way more than you need, but I like to be careful.

mms is easy ics dont know

WAP gateway = 66.209.11.33
WAP gateway port = 80
MMSC = http://mmsc.cingular.com/
MMSC port = 80
everything else blank
internet apn settings
APN = tfdata
everything else blank Authentication type PAP
hope this helps someone

ICS
This post pertains more to Internet Connection Sharing - you can certainly add the APN and MMS info to get that working. BUT if you want to be able to turn internet connection sharing on, you have to do this.

Unable to MMS after flashing?

Finally got a custom ROM on my phone, NFSFANs, and I must say I really like it, but for some reason I am unable to MMS. I looked through all the places i thought would be obvious settings, but i cant find anything
anyone else experience this?
same issue
i have been haveing the same issue on my touch pro, i dont see were to fix it when i try to send it starts to then says unable to send does any one know of a fix for this, i am useing Energy.HERMAN.23518.StandardM2.5_27.
use this
use this cab, it appears that messaging is still not ready for the new 2011 builds...
This will disable the HTC Messaging and take you back to the winmo messaging.
You also need the second cab to take your phone back to what sense2.1 used and it should work...
There is also a third file attached, that one you install by itself, you have to go to the "all messages" then you have to go to the menu>options>settings and put your settings.
Search on it a little more, If I find the full information again I will let you know. I read on it last night and got my wifes touch pro2 to mms again so this should work for you too...
Maybesz?
I beleive this may be what your after, these settings are carrier specfic in order to get MMS working
HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\Arcsoft MMS UA\Config\MM1 Default Setting Cricket MMS and Change WAP default Port 1&2 to 8080 and WAP Default Time Out to 10000

Under UI\Domain http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
Under UI\SizeLimit WAP1RecvLimit 1,2,3 set everything on that page (12 settings in all) 1024000 (this is part of your 1000K send and receive limit)
HKLM /software/arcsoft mms ua/config/UI
find EnableServerEdit and change it from 0 to 1
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings Where it says Connections, Delete that entire string Hold down stylus on Connections circle it and delete it, This is what keeps the MMS from sending. Bad thing is every time you open explorer it re-writes this registry. To solve that many of us have just used something else besides Explorer. Like Opera, Firefox Mobile or Skyfire.
You can still use these browsers without writing the Connections Value. If you don’t want to use anything but Explorer, you are going to have to go into this registry file and delete the Connections string every time to send MMS or until someone comes up with a registry hack to Auto delete this value every time you close IE …Close Regedit.
Now go to your messages and click menu/MMS options and then click server and click add new. Add new or if you already have one called something else just click it and click edit...you need to change these settings to
Server Name Cricket
Gateway leave blank
Port Number 8080
Server address http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
Connect Via Cricket MMS
Sending limit (should be 1024000 if you changed these settings correctly in regedit)
Wap version Wap 2.0 (Wap 2.0 should be pre selected, if it is don’t touch it. If it keeps reverting back to 1.2 when you click close? Go back into regedit and select WapType 1 as mentioned previously, this forces it into WAP 2.0 without it MMS won’t work.) Now if you have more than 1 select the cricket one you just configured and hit set as default then go back to HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\Arcsoft MMS UA\Config\MM1\MMSCSetting\Cricket MMS and delete the other configuration, when you go back into settings CricKet should be the only one there and it should be default.
Start\Settings\Connections\Connections Under the General Tab Enter Cricket. Under the Modem Tab put in Cricket Mobile Web select modem to cellular line. Click next put in #777 to dial to Cricket, click next… User Name: [email protected] Password: cricket Domain: Leave Blank, click finish…under proxy settings, check these 2 boxes (this network connects to the internet, and this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet) Proxy Server: wap.mycricket.com click advanced. Click select networks. Under both drop downs select Cricket. Click Ok Go into Exceptions Click add new URL for each of the following settings you are going to need to click add new url again, these don’t all go under one “Add new URL” Block

[Q] Can't text on ATT branded X10 2.1

I had 1.6 on my X10 which was ATT branded. Since I was new to android and xda, I just followed a random tutorial of unbranding (or something) to get my phone to 2.1, because it was before the official att 2.1. I updated before I ever tried texting even on 1.6, so that may be the case, but I can't text at all right now. I thought maybe it was from screwing up during the 2.1 update. I'm trying to install the official 2.1 right now to try, but if that doesn't work, does anyone know how to fix this problem? I NEED texting
what do you mean texting doesn't work?
can you not send messages? Have you received any messages?
Need more details...
Sent from my x10 Platinum
I'll say as much as I can, but I'm a noob when it comes to phone so just ask if you need any more.
My contract lets me text, but when I try, it says "could not send". But I can receive them fine.
I have x10 2.1 unbranded right now, since maybe a year ago, used to have 1.6 att.
I think I rooted my phone... I should have, but not sure (lol)
I've never come across this problem before. But you might want to use flashtool to flash one of the custom roms skiing with the correct baseband. If you need help with this, send me a pm.

You need to set up your wireless apn go to menu/settings/sony ericsson/settings download then wait a few you will see it flash on then go to back button/wireless & networks/mobile networks/network mode/gsm/wcdma preferred (click it)/access point name there shoud be two, one wireless/one mmsc. if for some reason you have three make sure that the top one (the house icon) is checked or you will be roaming.

Okay well after clicking settings download, my only service provider is ATT. When I click that nothing happens for a while but then it ends up saying "Could not download settings. Retry?"
But while it's searching, I have 3 APNS, AT&T, ATT, and SEMC GPRS, which gets selected by default. After it says "Could not download settings. Retry?", all I'm left with is 2 APNs, ATT and AT&T. Both of which I put in manually.
I might just not know what you're saying, but i can't seem to make it work
Well try this these are my APNs in USA Calif. and ONLY change the settings i give you and the way they are (case sensitive) if your in this area if not find a friend an look at theirs.
Also you have to wait to see the 3G/H/or E. And maybe set the GSM/WCDMA Preferred first then download settings. You do not have to click it after it downloads it's just telling you that is your connection name. Then go to settings.
Do this first if your go to reset your APNs download or Manually
Delete the APNs you have now then go and do the settings again.
Menu/Wireless & Networks/Mobile Networks/Access Point Name/Click APN/Menu/Delete APN.

Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong, but it didn't seem to work. What I did was delete my APNs, input yours exactly like that (and left everything else blank), and then settings download. Still didn't work I have H connection, and it does "connect", but even when I go on my browser, it says the url is blocked or something. I don't know what I did different but before this the browser worked fine, just texting wouldn't work. What about that [email protected] thing? I remember something about that. When I put those in, my browser worked fine.
Also one more thing. While trying to fix it, I thought I might as well update to 2.3 if I unbranded it already. But before that, when I was in 2.1, the text would instantly return with "could not send". Now, when I try to text, it says "sending" for a couple minutes and then after that says "could not send" again.
No do not Download settings again, you just put them in then Menu/save.
By downloading settings after you ether wiped the settings you just put in Or you have like to-many apns an your phone is freaking out trying too find the right ones.
But ya I would update the rom. An "I" would use Wolfs rom mo better faster.
Just watch the video can you can't go wrong then try the steps to setup your Apns
Also if you have a friend on the same network just look at his settings.

[Q] Data Connection Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, this is a troubleshooting request.
The problem: My Galaxy S2 data connection drops frequently after my first root
My Galaxy S2 was the first phone I rooted, and needless to say… I’ve learned a lot. After about 2 months of using a rooted kernel and a ROM from XDA developers, I’ve had a consistent problem I can’t solve on my own. I’ve gone through about 5-6 different ROM’s and probably 15-20 modems and the problem is always the same: my data connection dies frequently because I cannot use the proper APN settings. The connection indicator will simply disappear and in Settings > About Phone > Status, the service state will show “out of service”. It lasts about 30 seconds before I assume the connection resets and it comes back.
Why I think it happens: When I was researching prior to rooting, nothing anywhere ever mentioned APN’s. I assume the settings are pretty much automatic for most carriers? I don't think that’s the case for my carrier: DOCOMO PACIFIC. After rooting, I was able to make phone calls and text but my data didn’t work at all for days. I copied APN settings from 3 different friends with S2’s with no success. I even took it to a DOCOMO tech and had him check the APN settings and verified them as correct. Out of sheer frustration, I started leaving out random items in the APN settings and it began working (albeit poorly).
I am able to get a connection if I just put in “gcpos” as the APN and nothing else, but the connection drops frequently. These are the settings that I use:
Name: Docomo Pacific
APN: gcpos
MCC: 310 (automatic)
MNC: 470 (automatic)
The settings that I’m SUPPOSED to be using are:
Name: Docomo Pacific
APN: gcpos
Proxy: 209.4.229.82
Port: 9201
MMSC: ht tp://mmsc.guamcell.csky.us:6672/ (Had to break up prefix due to posting restrictions)
MMS Proxy: 209.4.229.82
MMS Port: 9201
MCC: 310
MNC: 470
APN Type: internet + mms
The problem is as soon as I put those settings in, data will not work at all. I can make phone calls and text, but anything internet won’t work. So what gives? Does anyone know why it does this?
I botched my ROM backup, so I cannot revert to the previous ROM/modem and obviously no tech will probably touch it because my warranty is void. Even using stock ROMs and stock modem still gives me the same problems. It’s usable in its current state, but the problem irritates me to no end. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!
Silly question but have you asked your phone service provider to send the settings? Unless smartphones are radically different to non-smartphones they should support receiving Service Settings via SMS Text Message from your provider.
Sent from my GT-I9100P using Tapatalk
Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I did call them up and all they did was read back the settings I already had. I found a website that lists their alternate APN settings too, but still no dice...
I'm absolutely certain I'm using the correct APN settings because I've gotten the same settings from about 5 different sources and put them in about 30 times. The problem seems to be that the correct settings simply will not work.

MMS issues on ICS and JB

Heya guys,
I've been going through quite a few different roms, trying to get MMS functioning properly, however without much luck.
Currently my best "workaround" is to be close to a wifi and have wifi enabled and send, or the other option to disable the data APN and make the mms APN default.
My Carrier requires me to use 2 APN's in order to get MMS and data working.
Has anyone found a solution for getting around this ?
My apn settings:
Data:
Code:
Name: Internet
APN: internet
MCC: 238
MNC: 02
APN type: default,internet
MMS:
Code:
Name: MMS
APN: telenor
MMSC: http_:_/_/_mms.telenor.dk (i have under 10 posts so cant post links, i have added "_"'s to go around this.)
MMS proxy: 212.88.64.8
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 238
MNC: 02
APN type: mms
i am required to be on the telenor APN in order to connect to the MMS proxy, i have tried being on the internet apn, however i get connection refused.
Well i guess i should state what i am currently using.
I am currently using mimicry 1.5.0 on a HTC desire Z works great except for the obvious M.MS problem.
I have a thread in the desire z forum, however since i beleive this issue is not just related to my actual phone, i thought a broader audiance could help with this.
bumping the thread, i guess i posted this thread a bit outside the useual active times, got completely burried.
Latest update, MIUI has this problem fixed in their ICS build, however their build is a bit too unstable on my phone (reboots all the time)
maybe if someone knows an app or maybe even a script etc that can ie change APN settings apon mms receive and send, and change it back after its sent/downloaded, i could live with such a workaround without complaining.
I have also written to my carrier in hopes of they can provide me with a single APN setting for both data and mms (i think they already have one, but since my rom does not have support for auto config of apn's apon msg recieve from carrier i am unable to enable it.)
If someone knows of a tool that can help handle this, i am willing to give it a try.
My phone is of cource rooted, would not have it any other way
bumping again, nobody with a suggestion ?
Another bump, in the hope of someone knowing a solution.
bump again, still no luck on this end.

Cricket MMS Fix? Need help Testing

Well long story short i jumped to cricket. I Flashed over the razr, guy who guaranteed work, even though now i feel fully comfortable doing it myself.
Here is the problem, I need to get MMS working on the stock messaging app, I have messaging working on an app the guy who flashed my phone installed for sending/receiving picture message, it is a very old out of date version of the stock messaging app with a few tweaks.
Heres the question, i remember the Hero guys hard coding the APNs to connect to the cricket servers into the stock messaging app, but this was a Sense rom back around 2.1 updates i was wondering if that was possible to do with our Messaging app to fix the problem?
I have attached the two messaging apps stock and the one the flasher installed on my phone..witch frankly is terrible double notifications no were near matching the theme...
I will upload a logcat ASAP
I think i have a working solution...by that it is working for my phone Any other Cricket Users please help me test. trying to get a universal working mms on stock app.
Try this
1. Dial ##program & then enter the spc(all zero)
2. Go to the apn control then select apn config edit.
3. Then select the apn called ALU TEST SIM INTERNET. (You may have to change, ALU Test-SIM CBS as well)
4.Change These Settings.
Username=Your#@mycricket.com
Password=cricket
Server=wap.mycricket.com
MMSC=http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
MMS PORT =8080
MCC=310
MNC=004
Authentication Type= PAP or CHAP
APN type= defalut,mms,dun
5. Press menu then save.
Then Back out and go into 08 SMS/MMS settings, and change the following
Address for upload to online album = 111111
Maximum Message Size = 228800
Reset your phone, and try and send an MMS
Let me know if it works.
