Update 3/31/2015: As of the latest M9 system dump the previously uploaded 4.4.4 image is still being used.
Installation
Installation is done entirely through recovery.
These recovery flashable zips assume two things:
Your animations are located in /system/customize/resource/
They are named hTC_bootup.zip and hTC_downanimation.zip
If your animations are named something else or are in a different folder you'll need to install these manually using your preferred file browser app.
Make sure to rename the files to match yours and make sure to set the permissions to match as well.
If everything matches up, flash the zip in your custom recovery and your good to go.
There are currently two methods available for installation and two variations for each method (see below):
EZ Install Method
This is an "all-in-one" flashable zip that installs the not just the boot and shutdown animations, but also the splash screen as well.
** I do not know if S-ON users can replace their splash screen with this method, so if some wants to try and report back please do. **
Boot and Shutdown Animations Only:
As it sounds, this zip only installs only the boot and shutdown animations. Basically for anyone who doesn't want to change their splash screen. I am also keeping this method available in case S-ON users aren't able to change their splash screen using the EZ Install Method
Virgin Mobile ZARA_CL users
As this is the device I own, I have a special zip for you guys with an added bonus:
It removes the Virgin Mobile boot animation that precedes the HTC one
It removes the startup sound
If you don't want those removed, just install the normal zip.
Also, If you are using the InsertCoin ROM use the normal zip.
Downloads:
EZ Install
4.4.2 Normal: ZARA_BW_Complete
4.4.2 For Virgin Mobile users only: VM_ZARA_BW_Complete
4.4.4 Normal: ZARA_BW_444Complete.zip

Virgin Mobile users only: VM_ZARA_Stock_Complete

Normal: ZARA_Stock_Animations
Virgin Mobile users only: VM_Zara_Stock_Animations

You are the hboot guru here, lol! Thank you again.

Weird... I never had the red development text on my phone ever... Anyway, good job. I'm going to see about creating a few vocaloid inspired ones from gifs that I found off the net.

I don't think it shows right away. You have to alter something first by installing a custom recovery or boot image, S-OFF by itself won't make it show up.

Well I'm s-on with bootloader unlocked, custom recovery and different kernel.

Red text only appears when charging powered off.

That might be why. I'm not 100% certain, but I think you need to be S-OFF for the text to show. Then, once your S-OFF, it won't show until you do something like custom recovery or boot image. I had RUU'd in preparation for the KitKat update so I didn't see the red text until I installed TWRP so I could root after the KitKat update.

I never charge while the device is off so I can't speak to that, but it should appear anytime your phone displays the splash screen, which is when you power it on or do a full reboot (don't think shell reboots display it but I could be wrong).

I think I've done full reboots before. Maybe through xposed but i did do reboots to bootloader or recovery and didn't get the red text.
Edit: just did a full reboot from power off to on and I don't get the red text and all I did was HTC unlock, recovery and kernel.
Anyway, we're getting off topic.

Read one more post up, the post about when the red text shows was in reply to tonydd's post.
I posted in reply to you that you don't see the message because your not S-OFF. S-OFF triggers the message, which is why it's fitting S-OFF is required to be able to remove the message.
And yes, definitely off-topic. This is more for general discussion or at least my thread on removing the red text.

They're mentioned in the OP. They are hTC_bootup.zip and hTC_downanimation.zip in /system/customize/resource

The ZARA_BW_Animations.zip link in OP is dead, could you re-up?

Thanks for letting me know. It's fixed now.
EDIT: Added mirrors for all 3 files as well.

Just a suggestion.. You should make the HTC logo green and remove the "Powered by Android" logo from the animations.
That way it would be closer to the HTC stock animations..

The "Powered by Android" is stock. I think HTC started doing that on KitKat devices. But I used the stock animations as the base for this, just made it white text on black background and made the HTC logo white.
I do plan on making an inverted one, which will essentially be the same, but retain the green colored HTC logo.

The "Powered by Android" appears only on splash screen not in the animation..
If you want I can sent you my black splash and animations from my HTC One. Then you 'll only have to resize it and remove the One and beats logo from the animation..

On Jelly Bean the boot animation was just the green HTC logo, but on KitKat it has the "Powered by Android"

Can i install this over any rom, namely GingerBlur?
I tried CWM method on my AT&T Atrix (unlocked and running GladiAtrix). It didnt go past "Installing update...." and i had to pull out battery. After reboot old theme was still there. Any ideas on what I should/shouldnt be doing?

Regular method installed and works as it should. Thanks for the good theme.
It would be even better if there is a way to remove 3g/Hspa icon when wifi is connected and 1% battery increments. But is easier said than done...

The Atrix doesn't support 1% battery increments yet. I use circle battery widget for that level of precision.
Looks really nice and simple.
Could I have specific steps on how to install this?
I'm rooted on stock ROM.
anyone have any success using the CWM method?
Worked fine for me through recovery

Glad to hear, was making a replacement and ran into trouble. Now I can just put the original back up.
cwm recovery method didn't work, just froze on installing. Adb worked fine. Love the theme, one bug I notice is black on black text on the clear button when you pull the notification bar down. Otherwise seems good. Thanks!

Cool, Im going to take the CWM zip down until I figure out why it's not working.
Im aware of the notification clear button, and the active tab (such as in alarms). they will be fixed in the future.

[TOOL] HTC One (AT&T) All-In-One Toolkit V3.1 [7-28-2013] [PERM ROOT][Noob-Proof]

Post 1 - Information
Post 2 - Downloads and Release / Change Information
Post 3 - Bugs, Future Additions to the GUI, FAQ
I would like to add for those that like my toolkit, PLEASE DO NOT POST IT ELSEWHERE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!
I have seen multiple sites who copy and paste my work to their site! If I do not approve of it, then do not do it! it will discourage me from adding updates since it is being used for their own benefits!
tl;dr.
If you post my work without permission, don't expect updates!
I created an easy to use GUI program for the HTC Amaze and I decided to make one for the HTC One. I spent a good over 10+ hours to learn how to script, watch videos on how to do it, working on it during school when I should have been listening lol and all that fun stuff. I am going to fix it and up and add more updates to it. You CAN place requests and I will try to fulfill it!
If this helped you out, Please press the thanks button and if you want, you can always donate!

- Makes Requests!!!
FAQs
Q - Why Did you make this?
A - To make life easier
Q - You are limited on features. Why?
A- You can always make a request!
Q - Will this work on other devices?
A - Only the fastboot commands, HTC Dev unlock (device specific) and the HTC drivers. Toolkit is made for the specific device.
Q - Will you support more devices in the future?
A - If people REALLY want, I can make it happen. I just don't want to make anything that nobody would use.
Q - Awesome! Can I make a donation?
A - Of course! Do not feel obligated though. If you would like to make a donation, you can click the button on my toolkit or under my username.
i know this probably does not belong here but thought i would ask this is happening when trying on step 8 on htcdev to unlock bootloader anyone know why C:\Android>fastboot oem get_identifier_token
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
I can't get the TWRP recovery to work either. I flashed it and tried to get into recovery, but it will just reboot right away. I turned off the fast boot. And the usb debug is enabled. Anyone can help us on this?

In the "Extras" area, it says flash stock ruu zip. So does this toolkit actually have the ruu file for our ATT HTC One's or not?

Did you make sure you had the correct version of TWRP? I accidently loaded the wrong one and it would just reboot with out going into recovery. Make sure it's the new one off of TWRP's website.

Been a while since I had to unlock and root. Step by step would be great, I went through the unlock process already and flashed the CWM standard one. Worked fine. How do I root again? or is it already rooted with the CWM installed? Thanks again

[RANDOM BOOT ANIMATION] [1080P] Lots of Boot Animation Downloads & ROM TOOLBOX

This thread will show you how to do a couple things.
a) Install a custom boot animation.
b) Randomize your boot animation so each time you reboot, you get a different boot animation (only available with pro version of the app I use).
I'll be updating the thread every few days with new animations until I get a pretty good library. If I'm really super motivated, I might accept boot animation requests. Otherwise, all you need is the boot animation factory linked at the bottom of this thread.
REQUIREMENTS:
-You need to be rooted.
-You need an unlocked bootloader (only if AT&T or Verizon).
-You need a kernel that supports custom boot animation (Faux, Ktoonsez, any AOSP kernel - I'm currently using SlimBean 5.6).
-You *might need to have an AOSP ROM. I have not tried stock rooted TouchWiz yet.
Okay, here's how you do custom boot animations!!!
1) Install ROM Toolbox Lite (consider upgrading to the pro version).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wyLDEsImNvbS5qcnVtbXkubGliZXJ0eS50b29sYm94Il0.
*Note, there are other ways to install boot animations, but those methods are not supported in this thread.
2) Copy the boot animation file(s) to your internal or external SD card. It doesn't matter which. Nor does it matter what folder you put them into.
3) Open ROM Toolbox Lite:
4) Close out of the disclaimer:
5) From the main menu, just swipe your finger to scroll to the right:
6) Now you're at the Interface tab. Click on Boot Animations:
7) You can click on "later" to not upgrade. But I do recommend upgrading. This is a VERY cool app:
8) Click "OK" to the disclaimer:
9) From the "Server" tab, you can download boot animations. But you don't want to, because none of them are 1080x1920 and will look "small" on your screen:
10) Instead, swipe to the right so you an view the "Randomize" tab. Read the info if you like:
11) Now swipe to the left to the "Local" tab. And navigate to the folder where you stored your boot animations that you have downloaded from this thread:
INSTALLING A SINGLE BOOT ANIMATION FROM THE FREE VERSION OF ROM TOOLBOX:
1) Single-click on any boot animation you see in this folder:
2) Click on "Install".
3) Reboot phone and on the first (OR SECOND) reboot, you should see your boot animation and it should fill the 1080x1920 screen.
INSTALLING RANDOM BOOT ANIMATIONS IF YOU UPGRADED TO THE PRO VERSION OF ROM TOOLBOX:
1) At the "Randomize" tab, move the sider to the "On" position (top right of screen):
2) Swipe left to the "Local" tab:
3) Single-click a boot animation and select the "Add to randomizer" option (repeat for each boot animation you want):
4) If you're on the free version of ROM Toolbox, you'll be prompted to upgrade. Select either "Unlock boot randomizer" or "ROM Toolbox Pro". The Pro version is more expensive, but it unlocks every option the app has. And there are lots of cool options. Choice is up to you:
5) Since I already paid for the pro version, I installed that:
6) Now click on "open":
7) Go through the steps again and grant Root Permissions when prompted (your Superuser request may be different looking than mine):
8) Ignore the disclaimer:
9) When you finish adding boot animations to the randomizer, your "Randomize" tab will look similar to this. Now you're ready to reboot over and over and over and enjoy all your new boot animations!
Thank you to JaeKar99 for creating or sourcing all the boot animations that I modified to work in 1080x1920 resolution for our Galaxy S4 phones.

Thank you to jsho31 on XDA for pointing me to ROM Toolbox (which I already had but didn't realize it had the boot animation randomizer - which is awesome!)

Status Bar Icons
Thanks a lot for posting this! Also, not to veer off subject, but I noticed that in your screenshots, ROM Manager has the option of changing status bar icons. Will it allow us to change the color of the battery icon? I've just been wanted to do that a lot. Sorry for going off subject. Thanks again!
EDIT: Sorry, I meant ROM Toolbox. NOT ROM Manager.
We do not have a method to unlock bootloader yet.....so this won't work for us until we do......
Great post, thanks for the info! Do you know if there's a 1080p version of the jelly bean boot animation?

It probably will. But always do a nandroid backup before applying those type of theming options. It's one of the types of mods that have a high ratio of killing ROMs.

You have had an unlocked bootloader since last Thursday or Friday. Just check your development sub-forums.

If there isn't, then all you have to do is find a 720x1080 (or other size) one and mod it to be 1080x1920. All you're doing is just taking the existing pictures and making them larger. The utility I linked in my OP will do that. Or you can link me to one of the bootanimation.zip's and I'll try to make one for you when I get time. I've got a lot of requests in my inbox already though.

We have a bootloader bypass at the moment: not a full unlock. Is this tested and working on a Vzw S4?

What is the problem? And are you rooted, what kernel are you on, which ROM, etc. Nobody can help you if you don't explain yourself.

Ahh, well let me draw your attention to the "requirements" section that I posted in the OP.
CZ Eddie said:
REQUIREMENTS:
-You need to be rooted.
-You need an unlocked bootloader (only if AT&T or Verizon).
-You need a kernel that supports custom boot animation (Faux, Ktoonsez, any AOSP kernel - I'm currently using SlimBean 5.6).

You need QMG format boot animations. Search XDA and my username and you'll find a bit of info on that.

VZW uses the same bootloader hack that ATT does (loki).
Faux kernels used to work fine on the S3. Maybe he hasn't added the custom animation capability to the S4 kernel yet.
Do you have Ktoonsez kernel? His is what I'm running now.
I doubt the stock ROM is the issue, but I suppose it could be.
Which animation did you flash? I just found out three of the uploads were corrupted and are only about 200kb in size.
This was posted in another thread...

Not working for you?
Finally found the solution in a thread by anbech, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897969
Use the CWM_CustomBootanimation_421_Enable.zip. It's for the S3, but works fine on the S4.
Just because the kernel supports it doesn't mean the system does. This flashes the file "bootanimation" to the /system/bin folder. That file is already there, so I made a copy of the existing one before overwriting it with this (just in case).
I'm not using ROM Toolbox, I just copy my animation (bootanimation.zip) to the /system/media folder since I don't change it often, but it should work.
The link above also has a good tutorial on making boot animations.
By the way, I'm using agat's kernel.

Unable to update to 1.27.531.8 {SOLVED}

I am stock rooted and didn't modify a single thing. The only thing I did was flash TWRP recovery because I was planning on flashing ROMS but I eventually decided to stick to stock rooted so I reflashed the stock recovery. I received the update a week ago and proceeded to install it. However, it seems to fail. When the phone boots into stock recovery it attempts to install the update but at about a 3rd of it's progress it immediately stops and all that is displayed on the screen is a phone flat down with a red triangle and exclamation mark inside it. I've tried searching about this but everything I find leads me to the One X and I've never owned that phone so I'm not sure how similar they really are. Does anyone know why this is happening? Would it possibly be due to a corrupted recovery file within my download source? Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone?

Mine is unlocked and the update worked fine. You just need the stock Tmo recovery to make it work.

My apologies. I completely forgot to report back to this.. YES, all is well now. Not sure why the other recovery didn't work as it did work for others but guess that doesn't matter now. Thanks a lot for your help. Much appreciated.
I used this recovery, and it completely wiped my phone and all my stuff was gone. And it still didn't install the update. Is that normal?

As far as I'm aware unlocking the bootloader or flashing an RUU are the ONLY things that wipe your storage. Flashing recoveries doesn't touch it except for adding in the necessary files to function properly.

I really cant remember if it did or did not when I flashed the recovery but in post #8 he said it wiped his sd. I could be wrong though. Just trying to help this guy out. I do know unlocking bootloader does wipe your sd though so i'm sure your right I just cant remember.

its no so much I WANT the update as much as i WANT my phone to stop buggin me about the damn update XD
ive followed the thread linked above and tried all methods provided. no luck so im sure im doing something horrificaly wrong XD
all i can provide is this,
Verifying curent system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/build.prop", "5c450bd35b662fa55d667bda7463960e2eb669c
5", "48daa0113456b06b44b52c1b777d7d2e49af1196")
Instalation aborted.
soo all i got was something is up with the build prop that it dosnt like... as for the other randomness hell if i know.
its weird though as ive never rooted the phone. i just unlocked bootloader to get a custom recovery on it so i could make backups of my entire phone.
and flash that one mod that gets rid of the 3 dot bar.

[Q] RE: Recovery Problem

Hi all.. Quick question.
I've just started the process of trying to root my One Max (international) and everything has gone smoothly with unlocking the bootloader etc, and i've flashed a CWM image to it as my recovery, but once i've rebooted, volume down and select recovery, hit power, it says entering recovery but then screen goes off, waits about 20-30 seconds and boots up as normal.. Is the CWM image file wrong? And if so, can i just redo the process of flashing the rom again the same way, or do i need to uninstall this image before i can? Does any new image not just overwrite?
I'm just a little frustrated at this point because it's now unlocked and tampered yet i have no root access.

The reason i picked CWM over TWRP was because i'm familiar with it and like the UI.. TWRP just seems too basic looking. But my initial question still remains. Can i simply re-run the process over the top with TWRP or do i need to remove CWM before i can write TWRP to the device?

Ok well i'll give TWRP a go. But do i need a specific .img file? Because when i go onto the TWRP site to get the version i need, it only lists Sprint and Verizon for the One Max. I'm on International so surely need a GSM or Non-US variant surely? Or can i just use the M7 GSM version?
Thanks.

Ok, now i've just redone this procedure exactly the same but with TWRP instead of CWM and it's doing exactly the same thing.. Why does it just go blank after saying "entering recovery" then boot as normal after about 20 secs? I really want root access but can't see how i'm going to get it if my phone won't boot into recovery.

Ok.. I finally figured what was wrong.. The .img was too new a version and clearly my phone didn't like it.. So i used an older version and it's done the whole process perfectly. So to anyone else having the same problem, try an older version.
Ok, hang on.. It seems i might not be rooted.. I've installed TWRP, done my Nandroid backup installed Superuser and a few root checkers and one of them said i was rooted, while the others couldn't gain access, same with Superuser and SuperSU, they both say they can't access binaries etc.. Now i assumed once the phone said tampered, unlocked and had TWRP installed that it was rooted.. Is this the case? I have attached some thumbnails of various screengrabs so someone can tell me if i am or if something has gone wrong.. When i did it on my DHD it was never this hard to root..
