[How-To]Make LG RCT forget that you were rooted - LG G2 Mini

This can be done on any LG device that has RCT in it
You can't use FOTA updates because your /system partition has been modified. You will need to flash a KDZ of your device to restore the unmodified state.
How-to at the end of this post
Old post:
Hello everyone.
So, while around XDA, I found something very interesting.
Here is the post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51580357&postcount=9
The most interesting part is:
Drachenminister said:
then I copied over a file named rct_security containing "forel.lee" as described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45659334&postcount=21 and rebooted
After the reboot the rct_security was gone and download mode showed UNROOTED again

So, can someone, with root, try the above?
You can check if it worked by going into download mode or by doing the following (you should try both for better results):
Code:
Type in the dialer app the code: 3845#*620# (replace the 620 with your device model number)
Scroll down to find LG RCT and click it
Tap "Display Result"
If it says "Not rooted" or "UNROOTED" then it worked!
Tested and working!
Do it yourself :
0. Root your device (obviously?), install Xposed or any other one-time installation mod.
1. Unroot with SuperSU's "Full Unroot/ Cleanup"
2. Make a file named rct_security (not rct_security.txt !) at /sdcard/ or /storage/emulated/0/ (it's the same )
3. Open it in a text editor and in it enter: forel.lee
4. Reboot
Steps 2, 3 and 4 can be done in a terminal emulator or adb shell:
Code:
touch /sdcard/rct_security
echo "forel.lee" > /sdcard/rct_security
reboot
Done. RCT now thinks that you have never rooted your device and your mods will stay :victory:

What does this do?

LG has this thing called "LG RCT" which detects if you have rooted your device.
This "RCT_security" thing is supposed to make the RCT tool think you are not rooted even if you are.

As for me this does not work

According to my testing, i can change the status in the test menu with changing the /persist/rct.cfg
It will show what ever i type there.
Downloadmode still shows rooted.
forel.lee seams to retriger the RCT Test, because when rooted the it updates the rct.cfg:
Code:
Rooted
Not allowed command had been excuted
> su
Rooting related file had been installed
> su
Detection time
> 2014-07-17 10:24
g2m:LGD620........:5.00
So, if you unroot your phone it might be a way to reset RCT.

So, it's only useful when someone unroots his phone (not via kdz flash) to reset the RCT to "Not rooted" again, right?
I didn't try it myself because my G2 Mini is not rooted.
Sent from my D620R [Stock 4.4.2]

Did an other test and proved that the RCT root status in test-menu and downloadmode can be rest with farel.lee after unroot with superSU.
BTW the exposed tweeks were still active after unroot and status UNROOTED.

LG RCT "Not rooted" , Xposed installed!

Hey everyone,
Do you think that I should make a thread at Android General, with a step-by-step guide on how to get Xposed installed without the LG RCT displaying "Rooted"?
I will link back to this thread, of course.

Well, 'forel.lee' and RCT are, as far as I know, LG specific.
They are not Android related.
If someone has problems with RCT and searches through XDA he should be able to find this or the original thread.
Only my five cents, so feel free to do what ever you want.

Tell me also if download mode is clear of "ROOTED" too?
And can I use Xposed after unrooting? Or just my before made settings are enabled?

If in the hidden menu you see "Not rooted" then download mode will say "UNROOTED" . You can go into download mode and see for yourself (plug a usb cable to your pc and then to your G2 Mini, while holding pressed the Vol+ button).
Xposed will remain active, LG RCT won't know about it, but you will need to reroot to update it.

Xposed needs root on (un)installation only
Unroot with SuperSU's full unroot / cleanup option. Then make a file named rct_security at /sdcard/ containing this: forel.lee
Then reboot.

[GUIDE] Rooting

Okay, just wanted to put this info here for easy reference. Feel free to correct anything I may have wrong.
*Based on my experiences performing the operation on windows 7 x64.
1. Install the LG USB driver for windows found under the software tab from their site here
2. Download and extract the English version of the root optimus g created by fiddy619 from here
3. Set USB debugging on and attach your phone to usb, then put it in MTP/Media Sync mode. Next, open a command prompt and navigate to the "stuff" sub-directory of the extracted file. Run the command "adb devices" to make sure your phone has been detected. Go back to the main directory and run the RootOptimusG.bat file.
4. When prompted on your phone choose restore data. Leave your phone plugged into USB until the program tells you it is finished! Sit back and let the magic happen. Your phone will reboot. Mine acted weird for a few seconds after it rebooted, the buttons at the bottom were going on and off and the screen was flickering. Just be patient and give it a couple minutes if needed.
5. When prompted that all is complete you can disconnect your phone from your computer and open the Play store to get the update for SuperSU
Now you are ready to unlock!
should be a sticky.
Thanks!
I followed the thread to root no fiddy619 instructions. I did use MTP.
But instead of Command prompt, I just double clicked the BAT file. and it run without problems, I think.
I have the SuperSU icon on my phone.
How can i make sure it was rooted?
p.s
The unlock also ran without problems.

well if you have the supersu then it should be rooted. also if you now have it unlocked then it is rooted because i dont think you can unlock unless you root. also please search around the forums about what apps to not remove after root. a lot of people have noted issues after removing google apps.

Correct, you can just double click the bat file...my steps vary because I included a check to make sure adb is recognizing your device properly.

If that worked for you, I'm happy for you. I am at this time unable to find a way to unroot and then re-root aside from restoring a backup in CWM or flashing a superuser zip in CWM. This could be because of a "bug" in our rooting script, in SuperSU's un-rooting function, or just an incompatibility between the two. Either way, I think this rooting mechanism works for more virgin LGOGs than not.
worked for me, easy peasy.
When i run the script it gives an error saying that i'm missing backup-restore.apk and /system/bin/ric does not exist. Any ideas as to why this is?
nice. thank you.

That is probably because your phone is not rooted yet. I got that too as I was rooting it. Worked great.
I'm trying to root. USB debugging is on, connected as MTP. Run ADB, run adb-devices, returns an empty screen.
Try to run the script, it tells me "please check setting again"
HALP.

[p769] rooted, think I softbricked my phone

Hi,
I'm not a newbie to Android by any measure, but this is my wife's phone, not mine (I have a Nexus 4) so I'm not familiar with a lot of the LG stuff.
Anyways, I rooted her phone to get rid of some of the bloatware and the stupid Qslide thing, and also to edit the build.prop so Netflix will have the Chromecast button. I had deleted quite a few bloatware system apps, and rebooted, everything was fine. I deleted a few more, then edited the build.prop. Rebooted.
Now it shows the LG logo, but then the screen goes blank, but is still on (you can see the backlight) and never boots. I only removed a few more of the LG and Tmobile apps and edited the model and manufacturer in the build.prop
Do I have any easy options to fix this? Or do I need to flash the KDZ?
Flash kdz then install cwm then backup the stock ROM THEN do your mods. Every time every phone. Good luck

If it's just the build.prop causing it not to boot, you can flash (with fastboot) the boot.img for the kdz you are on. Look at my signature on how to extract it.
If that doesn't work, flash the ice cream x & u partitions for p769 in fastboot, and then run offline flash

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've tried the offline KDZ flashing it, but I can't get my computer (tried two actually, mine and my wife's laptop) to do anything once its in the S/W Upgrade mode. I used the method previously to update her phone the JB when Tmobile pulled the update. Since then it downloaded the most recent OTA. But anyways, I don't know why it wont work. It just continally tells me that my phone isn't connected, even though I'm using the latest drivers and the phone shows up correctly in the device manager. It's driving me nuts since it worked previously!
Any ideas?

Sorry I didn't break it down enough for you. You have to get fastboot up and running. Jellybean does not operate when starting in S/W mode, that's why you get the connection problem. That won't work unless he has a unlocked bootloader, which I assume he doesn't. So he either unlocks the bootloader (which might end creating problems, as he might forget to backup TA partition)) or uses the straightforward VRoot

gowan how do i know if it is locked bootloader?
I found some info on google about ta partition backup that it contains drm keys for prop soft etc.,
So may be this is the first step I shd do if it is locked bootloader.
Now it is restoring ta will get you to point in unlocked state.
Questions becomes will it be possible to restore TA partition and stay in unlocked mode?
Also help is for xperia phone z. Not sure it is same as xperia z tablet.
Thanks,
My Odd Xperia Z C6606
I have this same issue, Except my firmware is slightly newer, 10.3.1.E.0.191, I don't think I can make a new pfn address without root or boot loader access. I'm stuck
I don't get why everyone is having such an issue with rooting this firmware. Grab an ftf of an old ie. Rootable firmware for your tab flash with flash tool, root it,put a custom recovery on, and then grab the files and follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48904390 there you go no need to void warranty or lose drm keys

No. The bootloader doesn't unlock just because you updated your device. And no, there is no way to unlock the bootloader without voiding your warranty. And, remember, always backup your TA keys before unlocking the bootloader.

Root Guide to Samsung galaxy trend plus GT-7580

I have an Samsung galaxy trend plus GT-7580, Europian version. (sorry my english) and I want it to be rooted. Is there any guide to how to root this phone?
I have an GT-7580 galaxy trend plus, european too.
I confirm root with Kingo root: easy, functional and secure!
Search kingo root, download the windows program, active the "USB Debugging" on the developpers mode (activate this menu in Setting -> More -> About Device -> 5 or 6 clicks at BUILD NUMBER), install and run the program with the phone connected....et voilĂ !

But wasn't that program banned from xda, because it install some nasty malware?
I used VRoot to root mine. Found out about it randomly (someone said they managed to root a phone with it) and, luckily, it was compatible with the S7580 as well.
I'm waiting for some custom roms now.

I used the vroot. It seem legit. And I strip off alot of bloatware. plus I removed the vroot own su with the normal su.
Same here. I'm not sure how much of the rumors were true (about vRoot being malware and all that), but it helped me a bunch when there were no other alternatives. The support for S7580 is very limited at the moment and it was difficult to find even a way to root it.
All in all, I'm happy with it. Same as you HenryStar, I removed a bunch of stock crap I wasn't using and replaced the chinese SU app with SuperSU. So far so good; can't wait for people to start taking an interest in this phone so we can have some alternatives to the stock rom.
By the way, did you manage to install any recovery on it?
i have that phone to...lets hope that they will make a treath for trend plus..lets see...so we rooted the phone..wath did u make overclock?? or something to him?
I don't usually overclock my phones. Besides, the S7580 is rather snappy and I'm not sure the minimal improvement is worth the extra stress on the CPU.
Still waiting and hoping for a separate section for it.
Sorry if I was late with my answer and no, I tried to install custom recovery. I gonna test this so I can get an custom recovery on this phone in the futher.

Extract recovery img:
For ADB:
connect phone via usb(make sure usb debugging is connected).
Start ADB
from windows:
Click Start
Run -> Cmd.exe
type "adb shell"(without quotations)
from ubuntu:
Press Ctrl+alt+t(or open the terminal)
type "./adb shell"(without quotations)
when in the shell type "su"(without quotations)
On your phone a dialogue window will appear asking for permission to grant superuser. Click yes!!
now type "cat /proc/mtd"(without quotations)
A list of partitions(or w/e they are) should appear, you're looking for the one called "recovery". Mine is labeled mt8, I assume this is the same for you, but I could be wrong. For your phone's sake let's just make sure we're certain!!!
now in the shell type:
dd if=/dev/mtd/mtd8 of=/sdcard/recovery.img
your recovery.img should now be on the root of your sdcard

What is this?
This is a utility to easily root your LG G3 (specific models only). It's a fairly foolproof script that includes all the dependencies you'll need for getting your phone rooted easily.
This is the LITE version. This means that this version will only ROOT your phone. If you have a T-Mobile G3, we'd suggest you look for the full version in this same forum on XDA, since that will root, install TWRP, and prevent your root checker from showing your phone as rooted!

Who made this?
This root is a collaboration between myself (IOMonster), jcase, and autoprime.
Special thanks also to beaups for some initial guidance looking at the vulnerable application.

Is my phone compatible?
The new LG G3 models each are slightly different with regards to rooting and unlocking.
The vulnerability we're exploiting for PurpleDrake has actually been present on quite a few LG phones for some time, and as such this script will automatically detect if your phone is capable of rooting with this method.
To see a matrix of which LG G3 phones are compatible with this root, please see this Google Docs spreadsheet that we've compiled.
When you run this program, your phone will reboot and run a test to see if it's compatible. If the application succeeds, it'll let you know that it's able to permaroot you. If not, it'll fail gracefully and reboot you back to normal Android without having changed anything.

How do I use this?
WE NOW SUPPORT WINDOWS! YAY ME
To start, for either platform you'll need to scroll down to the download section and get the file.
Ensure that your phone is in ADB mode (PTP Mode for everyone but Verizon. Verizon users need to be in "Internet"/"Ethernet" mode)
Linux Instructions (in a terminal!)
Extract the file you downloaded...
tar xvf ~/Downloads/PurpleDrake-Lite_VERSION.tar.gz
Mark the application as executable, and run it!
cd PurpleDrake-Lite
chmod +x purpledrake_linux.sh
./purpledrake_linux.sh
OSX Instructions (just a bit easier)
Extract the file you downloaded
Double-click on "purpledrake_osx"
Windows Instructions
Extract the file you downloaded
Double-click on "purpledrake_windows"
The application will guide you through all the steps you need.
You will still need to install SuperSU from the market after installing PurpleDrake. This pack does not include one.
After, be sure to check @autoprime's post for how to disable OTA upgrades! here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54254062&postcount=2

But, what if I don't want to run your script to root?
Well then, I'd be a little hurt, but you can still do everything the script does manually.
Download the package, and extract it. Open a terminal in the main folder of the archive and run these commands:
Code:
adb reboot --bnr_recovery
adb push ./assets/start_restore /temp/start_restore
adb push ./assets/permaroot.bin /temp/start_restore
adb reboot
That will perma-root you, however there's no protection from doing something stupid or the phone being incompatible. Please be careful!

Disable OTA:
Open LG Hidden Menu (3845#*851#) --> WLAN Test --> OTA Setting --> OFF
*Replace "851" with your devices model number, 850, 852, 855 etc...
Look, instead of rushing to take an OTA to get the latest software.. think for a moment.
We do no know if the bootloader will stay "unlockable" in future updates. OTA's can update not only software..
but the boot stack as well.. enabling features to block downgrades.. close exploits.. and all sorts of fun stuff.
so.. instead of taking an OTA.. wait for the files to get posted so we can look at things first.. possibly only updating /system, /boot, /modem (maybe tz/rpm)
without updating the rest of the boot stack. ya... do that. Plan on making a lil thread on this soon to make things easier.
EFS Backup:
Code:
[FONT="Arial Narrow"][B]Backup EFS after jailbreaking your G3. EFS is split into 2 partitions modemst1 and modemst2.

*Step by step picture guide - [url]http://imgur.com/W83hMPE[/url]
install the drivers.
put phone into Download Mode (power off. unplug USB. pull battery. put battery back in. press/hold Volume Up then plug in USB cable.)
In Windows Device Manager set the phones serial COM port to #41. (*see picture guide for help)
Install LG Flash. In "C:\LG\LG Flash" folder delete megalock dll. Replace with .dll below.
new megalock dll - [url]http://bit.ly/1cQADXm[/url] (this site includes a "download manager.. UNCHECK THE BOX before downloading dll file.)
Run LG Flash in the "C:\LG\LG Flash" folder. Select korean factory if asked.
When LG Flash opens you will see a box to select firmware and dll.
Select LG Flash (.dll).
Select (.tot)
Hit OK (*see picture guide for help)
Hit yellow start button. If you get Milkyway error click ok. LG Flash will then run a crc check on the tot file. Takes a bit.
After crc check finishes unplug the phone. plug phone back in. it should now be seen in LG Flash and start flashing.
Phone will reboot when finished. You may end up on a screen with s "2"... let it sit there for a minute or two.
If stuck on "2" try unplugging the usb cable from the phone.. wait 10 seconds.. then plug the usb cable back in. now wait 30 seconds and hopefully it changes to a "3"
Once the phone says "3" you can unplug the USB.. remove the battery and plug back in.. boot back up... you are now 100% stock.
