[Q] KK (Beanstalk): Moving apps to sd card - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I'm on Beanstalk 4.4.4 by patch_Adams.
Since I upgraded from a previous built (4.4.2) of the same ROM, I'm not able to move installed apps to SD card or to the media storage. Therefore, I'm limited to the 2 GB partition available as "internal storage". The ROM is great and stable and I like it, but the limitation of the app space is really irritating
I tried the following but no luck:
Link2SD
HandleExternalStorgae (Xposed Module)
SDFix
SwapSD
Changing the App permission of External-SD to rw
Other than that I have no complains with the ROM.
Any Ideas or suggestions would help.
Thank you

I too am having the same problems.

Yes, I guess you are experiencing the same issue - more space needed on internal memory partition/storage.
There are few people who are trying solve this problem by finding expanding solution of the storage size.
Yes, I also tried all those apps(moving to SD) that you mentioned - NON of them work on KK.
Here is the topic I am still looking for anyone's answer/solutions.
[Q] Change internal memory partition?
I wish someone who have great skills on Android file/partition system could make us some kind of ZIP file to adjust this 2GB partition.

same issue and nothing interesting found around the web... Anyone? Do you have found a solution?

same goes here.. i got 12gb internal and 8gb sd card.. but can only use 2gb of them... i wonder if can move all the app to sd card.. it should be fine

[Q] Froyo App2sd not reliable?

Hey!
I had some apps moved to the internal storage using the stock app2sd feature of Froyo... only to discover that some of them got lost after one or more reboots.
Data is still there but the apps are not installed anymore. Only way to recover them is to reinstall them from the market.
Anybody else facing this issue?
Cheers,
Kashban
for move the apk on internal memory

not all applications will be moved

I don't have these problems on A70, running 2.0.54.
But I don't have a ton of apps
Also, I've managed to fix WiFi problem on encrypted network.
Switch to AES (from TKIP), WPA2-PSK, channel 1, fixed IP (before was assigned via DHCP).
am I doing something wrong cause when I seem to use app2sd to move to internal storage it moves to the 8GB storage and not the 32 GB microSD card I have installed. what am I doing wrong?
I also had the problem with apps having issues, but I uninstalled app2sd and reinstalled and it seemed to fix the issue (the manual update cratered)
You are doing nothing wrong.
App2SD as Archos hasimplemented it uses the internal SD.
You can't change this.

so then the microsd card is just for my music and movie files?
can I even save ebooks(kindle, nook, google, aldilko) to the card or is that also just limited to the internal storage?
That up to that Software, not up to Archos or Android.

You cannot save to your SDCard. These apps work with "sdcard" which is the name for internal memory. The actual sdcard is sdcard\sdcard
What I do is keep all the epubs on the internal memory and all the pdf books on my 32GB sdcard. That works for me.
You seem to be working with / for Archos, may I ask you a few questions:
1) Will the next firmware offer the option to hide the soft buttons menu bar?
2) Is it possible to 'resize' the system (app) storage? Archos has 256MB RAM and 299MB of app storage. The Galaxy S, i saw, has 1.7GB app storage. Surely it does not have 1.7GB RAM.
Thanks

[SOLVED] Installing large apps "application can not be installed"

Has anyone else had problems installing larger apps? I tried installing "Broken Sword" from one of the Humble Bundles a while ago. It seems to just stop installing and says the application can not be installed. There is no detailed error at all.
I can install other (smaller) applications from the bundle. Maybe the partitioning is decided in a wrong way, I have the following:
Internal memory:
11,87GB - 11,52 free
Internal memory:
1,00 GB - 759 MB free
SD-Card:
7,41 GB - 5,69 GB free
The apk I want to install is on the SD-Card already and is 540MB which shouldn't be too much for any of the memorys, except maybe the second internal memory? Why is there this second internal memory?
SOLUTION 1: If you don't use an external SDcard changing the mount point of /sdcard1 and /sdcard0 should help, there is a package for that there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32093304&postcount=179
OR you might want to consider to just make /sdcard1 a symlink to /sdcard0 with at least the drawback of not being able to use external sdcards anymore, as long as this is a symlink and not a directory - and maybe other sideeffects!
SOLUTION 2: Specifically for this app, the app itself has some glitches, see there the last post on how to install this specific app: http://forum.revolution.co.uk/topic/636/?page=4
Thanks for help and clarifying, maybe a repartition will be needed? (If it is needed, any link to a useful guide for someone that can manage UNIX / GNU/Linux systems but doesn't know too much Android specific stuff would be the most helpful)
Or is the problem maybe another one?
The partitioning isn't the issue, what else could be the problem?
----
My System Details:
Nook Tablet bought from ebay with CM10 (I think) installed already in internal memory, but no working internal recovery - installed CWM 6.0.3.7 and CM10.1.2 internally using a bootable CM10.1.x sdcard. Maybe the partitioning also isn't the default but was done by the pre-owner.
Okay, seems like size wasn't the issue
I repartitioned according to the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531120
And now made internal memory 1 to be 3,3 GB and Internal memory 2 to be 9,99 GB
Any of these still has enough space left, so there must be another problem ... any help?
Then some other issues that seem to persist: adb is shown "offline", I am running Linux and don't need to mess with Windows driver issues, all relevant solutions that I found for this didn't work, I also tried with data/factory reset and a new cm10.1.2 and nothing else on the system, still it is always "offline" ( adb in cwm works ).
Is there overall something else to care about with the Nook Tablet that I might have overlooked? It is also not too nice that the usual "central resource" for installing CM ( http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_acclaim ) does only show a non-working general guide... but I don't want to complain
I am also having the same issue. I have a nook tablet 16gb running CM 10.1 with 3.3 GB Internal Storage for all of the apps and 9.99 GB Internal Storage for everything else.
I have 2.8 GB free on the apps storage partition and 9 GB free on the other partition. when I go into Settings --> Apps and look at the SD Card tab, I see that 326 MB are listed as available for SD Card storage with 0 MB. I am not using an external SD Card.
I am unable to "move to SD Card" for any apps even though the option is highlighted. All apps have installed fine, but when I ran Minion Rush for the first time it stopped and said that I need 70 MB of available SD Card storage space to download additional data for the game. I have plenty of space available on both partitions, but for some reason this app doesn't recognize either of these partitions as an internal SD Card.
Is there a way to configure this device to use either of these partitions as internal an SD Card?

I figured it out bluesock. There is a former post that provides a solution. There is a ROM you will need to install that will fix this issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32093304&postcount=179
I copied the ROM to an SD Card then booted up into CWM and installed this ROM. After the reboot the second partition is renamed to SD Card and shows 10 GB of total space. Under file manager this partition is listed as sdcard 0 instead of sdcard 1. After that I was able to install apps of any size successfully.
Ok this "ROM" basically only modifies /system/etc/vold.fstab and switches sdcard0 around with sdcard1. This probably helps when not having a sdcard like in your case.
My problem wasn't this one, I have an external sdcard - so both sdcard0 and sdcard1 have enough space left!
But there was a problem with this specific app, check the last post on how to install: http://forum.revolution.co.uk/topic/636/?page=4 - sorry for not reporting back earlier, I will edit the first post in some minutes with our two "solutions" / explanations.
But first:
For you the better solution might be to do what digixmax said in that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2430335
I will reply there in some seconds with more details about what he said!

Insufficient Storage Available, Re-partition?

I'm running the latest CM snapshot. I've been getting the infamous "Insufficient Storage Available" error for a while not, usually with chrome. There are various solutions. The "delete /data/app-lib/<app>/lib" solution was working ok for me but I can no longer find chrome in there anymore for some reason. I've already moved every app that can be moved to the "internal" SD card. All the "solutions" are really just workarounds trying to clear space.
Is it possible to increase the size of the partition by re partitioning the internal storage?

I know that apps can be moved to the SD card. That isnt a solution nor my question.
I'm asking of the internal storage can be repartitioned
I'm having the same issue. I desperately need to reparation my phone.
i'm running viper rom with the sdcard swap mode.
i'm now back to getting insufficient memory messages when trying to update apps or sometimes run apps. it shows i still have plenty of free memory... i have been moving apps to sd card and that works for a little while.

You need to look at internal storage, not SD card storage.
So I did system dump today to explore the files on my computer see what's hogging all of my space.
Background: I have only have 13 apps installed.
What I found is that my data/data is 346 MB and my data/delvik-cache is 452 MB.
So the files installed by CM are getting more numerous and of greater size. Not sure what to do to solve this problem.

same issue here. davlik cache is similar to a cache of your applications so they start faster. So it doesnt matter if you move apps to SD, you'll still have davlik.
Also, many apps will still store data in internal memory eventhough the app itself is on SD. I wish there were a way to move the data.
Or as I initially suggested, re-partitioning.

well, there isn't ANY easy re-partitioning tool for android out in the wild that i KNOW of ... but, (at least to let you know) ... I'm currently still trying to _hack_ something together similar to the internal storage-partition upgrades that the other HTC One devices with MSM8960 recieved ... where they officially unified the /user partition with the internal /sd-card (fat) partition! ... it might take a few weeks until i have something to show around (as work keeps me very busy throughout the week), but i'm working on it.
just as a quick question so CM currently DOES put it's dalvik to the /user partition??? i thought they put it to /cache??? (at least on CM10.1 and CM10.2) ................ so feedback would be highly welcome

Expanding internal memory?

I'm a kind of a guy who wants atleast 250 apps on his phone which he actually had when he was on Kitkat (Link2SD linking did all the magic). After switching on to lollipop, the LP version of Link2SD is totally buggy and hardly works. Linked apps don't work, they force crash or show some other error. Link2SD is out of question and I think it's not getting any fixes because the dev says "v4 is is fully functional with LP" and v4.0.6 is already released but is still super duper buggy and it's working for no one, I'm not alone. I don't understand why does the dev still say it's "fully functional" when linked apps don't even work and neither do the mount scripts.
Anyways, link2sd is out of question now.
My query is, is there no way to "expand" the internal memory? I googled and found out some solutions like swapping internal and external memories (means internal would act as external and vice-versa, so if we have a 32GB card, system will see 32GB as internal and 2.1GB internal memory as external memory).
This appeared to be the best solution to all th problems of low internal memory and this is achieved by editing the /system/etc/vold.fstab file. But that file is not there at all on KK or LP! What the hell?! Why is Google "removing" "features" from the newer versions?!
Is there no way to swap?

XinternalSD is the only solution for you dude. I can confirm that it is working. It works flawlessly on lollipop, no issues at all.
I already use that but but apks, dex, lib, cache all go to internal only during installation.
I realised that even if I swap the internal (/mnt/emulated/0) and external (/mnt/media_rw/sdcard1), there still a magical "data" partition formatted in ext4 where everything goes-- dex, apks, libs, caches. So, that internal 2.17GB on Moto E which is free is actually shared by both the /mnt/emulated/0 and /data/ which is something I don't understand.
Can anybody explain how does this work? If I check in ES File explorer, 972MB of internal is shown as used up. When I open it and select all folder and files and see the properties, it shows 3 MB used up. This is so confusing.
Isn't there no way other than LINK2SD which would currently work and allow me to successfully link or directly install stuff to the second ext4 partition or SD card or *any* similar workaround? :'(
Android is so stupid :'( Why such a devastating limitation? :'(
Link2sd really works on lollipop also. After creating mount script for the first time reboot the phone , there will be a link2sd mount warning in the notifications after sometime , double click on it and choose the quick reboot option instead of recreating mount script. After quick reboot from the link2sd all the linked Apps will appear. You have to do this every time your phone boots .
Hit thanks If this helped you !

It doesn't always work. Those apps which have lib files don't work after linking. Even if we don't link the lib files, it still doesn't work because the lib files kinda "vanish" and show 0 bytes after linking. And the apps either FC or complain about missing lib files.

The internal 4GB is partitioned into /system, /data and internal sd.
/system is fixed and stores your ROM and system apps.
Back in the days /data/ used to be just like system. However now /data and internal sd are say dynamic. They grow as you install / copy stuff. This is much better than having fixed size partitions. This isn't a limitations instead consider it a flexibility.
All user apps are installed to /data by default which you cannot swap.
They don't seem to expand at all, for instance, /system/ which has a fixed size and once space is over, I can't copy anything to it!

Okay. Once again. /system/ is fixed in size for security reasons. You are not supposed to copy anything to it.
Its /data/ and internal sd that are dynamic.

Can Apps be Moved to SD Card without Formatting as Internat on CM 13?

Hi,
I am using CM 13 (Build 20160218) on my Moto E(Condor). I cant format my SD Card as Internal as it always shows CORRUPTED.
Ref : http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e/help/sd-card-slow-corrupted-cm13-moto-e-t3317429
I cant move my apps to SD card now as the internal storage got filled up soo quickly. I cant even use Link2SD as it was not working with CM 13.
Is there any other ways where i can move my apps to SD Card? or Is this not possible in CM 13 unless formatting as Internal?
Thanks in Advance,
Victor Vincent
Looks like someone's going to have to figure out how to make it work, as new security restrictions in marshmallow make the type of linking done by Link2SD and FolderMount and so on very prone to error. You can create links in a terminal, yet every app that has to use those links has to get permission too, something that's not all that easy to do apparently.

Give this a try:

I solved installing an old nightly, formatting as Internal (in that building was ok) and then flashing the last nightly. The SD is still OK as internal. http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/...-sd-as-internal-storage-then-says-sd-corrupt/
