Towelroot and Foxfi working with the VZW G3? - Verizon LG G3

Biggies for me and mutually inclusive:
1 Root
2 Disable updates
3 Enable card write permissions
4 Debloat
5 Foxfi

In the main "Root for ALL G3..." thread in the General G3 area, first post has a spreadsheet link.
The spreadsheet indicates IOroot works for VZW.
Any reason not to use it, instead of towelroot?
(I also want to debloat and get my tethering up, plus LBE Security Master to control app permissions and ads)

I will be using IOroot for my g3 tonight well if fedex ever comes

i tried towelroot and it says my device isnt currently supported

ioroot supposedly works
A recent post in the main thread claims that ioroot works on our VZW G3.
Mine was delivered but I'm stuck at work...

ya i just did it with ioroot. everything running perfectly

someone needs to make a thread on here saying which VZW and LG bloat apps are safe to remove. Ill probably root only and ONLY to debloat, I have no need to edit anything else on this phone till I get bored or frustrated at lack of updates (for when it inevitably happens).

Rooting is also nice to re-enable sd card writes for third party apps

Rushless -- OT, I know, but do you recall a decent app or how-to on sd card access with 4.4 after I root? I think one was mentioned on another forum but lost the link.

There are a few. Look up "sd card kitkat patch" in the market. They all alter the same script

What did you to it to get the ADB and RSA certificate to popup? I'm USB'd in as ethernet, installed the Verizon files, reset my computer, even restored the G3... any hints would be much appreciated. ioroot just remains on ""daemon started successfully"

You have to switch the usb connection method in the notification area to MTP and or Internet Connection > Ethernet. This is the solution you are looking for. You have to do it to enable usb debugging. Just go back and forth until you get the RSA popup.

I'm having the same problem. Verizon specific USB drivers loaded, have switched between MTP and Internet connection (Ethernet), device even says "USB debugging connected" when on the latter, but ioRoot is stuck on "waiting for ADB connection" no matter what I seem to do. Any other tips?

Within the ioroot thread (towards the end) someone posted a link to install the G2 drivers. I did that and was able to accept the RSA cert on my device and boot to ADB. I'll post a link in a bit for the lazy.
Edit

[Q] New Nook Tablet users (as of 21/12)

So, I think my question is useful to a lot of us, even myself, so I hope someone could help me out. It goes a little something like this:
I have a Nook Tablet, wrapped under my xmas tree. Going straight to the point: what is the best way to get it rooted, under the light of this new software update? On the 25th December, should I turn it on, register it, quickly disable wifi, and start to root it, along with the titanium backup solution? Shoud this work? Or do you have another (and better) solution?
Thanks in advance to all who can help us!
Just got mine today and root couldn't have been easier using this thread -> [Update 12/10/11] Full root for Nook Tablet. [11/20/11] [Permanent root!]
I never saw anything come up on the tablet about an update. Side loaded apps work fine also, just installed all 3 angry birds.
Thanks! A bunch, really! You made my day!
Just got mine today as well. Prepare to root after reading the thread here.

Just to be safe, first thing I would do after turning on and registering is go straight to root thread and download tgps app. then disable wifi. then after rooted, enable wifi and download titanium backup, then freeze devicemanager.apk. this will block verification of software version. There are other methods of blocking OTA.
Also, there is still a question on if they are even pushing OTA, some of us never got one and have left our devices on for the past couple of days...

Do I need to download tgps app directly on the nook, can't I push it through my sd card?
Yes, comptonsoft.com/test and select the top left link.
So it looks like we can still root if ee have one sitting under the tree waiting for us huh? I had been debating between this and the acer a100 and chose this for the battery life and ease of root/use factors. Hmm. Thanks for the info

I just wish someone could post a really simple guide (n00b alert) on how people who don't have their NT yet could root it and bypass this software update as soon as possible...
From what I heard as with any nook device in the past....."a software update shouldn't start to update immeadtely as soon as it's turned on"
So hopefully like mentioned above register turn off wifi, root then TGPS etc. This way you avoid leaving yourself open to get hit with the update.
In theory if this is all true; we should be ok even after the weekend.
I will do mine tonight but I need to do my wife's after she opens it; I'm not letting B&N spoil the surprise

Assuming your modem is not also your wifi router, just unplug the modem before you register the device and if you like, you can still use wifi to load files from a local file server. No need to worry about how quickly you disable wifi if there is no line to the outside world.

Great news sideloading with 1.4.1 solved!!!

The folks at liliputing have just published a fix for the 1.4.1 upgrade that will allow normal sideloading just as was possible with 1.4.0. All that is necessary is that you must have enabled sideloading when you had 1.4.
ROOTING IS NOT NECESSARY!!!
Here is the link to enable 3rd party apps in 1.4.1
http://liliputing.com/2011/12/sideload-apps-on-a-nook-tablet-with-os-1-4-1-no-root-required.html
Here is the link to enabling 3rd party downloads in 1.4.0 if you don't have it
http://liliputing.com/2011/11/how-t...ok-tablet-amazon-appstore-go-launcher-ex.html
Now quit yer bellyaching and get to work. Merry Christmas
Special shout out to Indirect for pointing the way to this simple work around for the rest of us.

Don't worry. I turned mine on for the first time yesterday. Registered and downloaded the tgps apk and did some surfing around for about 30 minutes before turning wiring off without it download the update. I was able to do a successful root and launcher install following Indirect's thread. You'll be fine as long as you can follow simple instructions.
they show you how to do it using ADB, honestly this is not easy for the average user and very inconvenient. It is easier to follow a video on reverting back to 1.4.0 and block OTA IMHO...
To give credit where it's due, the tutorials on Liliputing are based on information (and tools) gathered from Indirect and AdamOutler at xda-developers.
I just tried to flesh things out with a slightly more detailed walkthrough and photos.

Has anyone actually USED this with ADB???
I mean, you need to have USB debugging enabled in the NT after the upgrade, and I think the upgrade resets it. It certainly is now reset in my NT, and I'm fairly sure I had it enabled before the 1.4.1 upgrade.
On the Acer A500 section of this site, someone has posted a trick to gain root if:
You have root and apply the trick.
You update to a new version that removes root.
You can then access the device via ADB.
If there's a way to turn on USB debugging in 1.4.1 (I still have command-line access via ConnectBot, just not root access), that would be nice. Or, if someone knows a non-root app that can do it, I will:
Revert to 1.4.0.
Root it.
Install the trick.
Upgrade to 1.4.1.
Enable USB debugging.
Use the trick to regain root access.

You can use NT Hidden Settings but naturally it has to be installed before the update.
I played around with 1.4.1 before reverting and adb install works. Root is the real kicker for me though because I use the host file for ad blocking and I use button savior. Both require root.

With what? Are you getting this with the rooting tools? If so, have you been able to reenable USB debugging? Because without that, the rooting tools won't work.
no, i haven't rooted mine, but i read this script works for the unrooted tab. was i mistaken?
Device Not Found Error
I was able to sideload 5 apps using the Indirect instructions. Then, I needed about two more apps and that's when I received the device not found error message when trying to sideload Launcher Pro.
I have the install third party box checked and both USB debugging boxes and nothing in the auto mount. Although, I tried it with both USB boxes checked and the auto mount checked still the same error.
I even started from scratch in DOS and got the same error.
Any suggestions?
---------- Post added at 09:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:15 PM ----------
Ok, after writing the first post, I went back to my NT and unchecked and re-checked the third party box. Then went to the Development area and unchecked the second USB debugging box and left the auto mount box unchecked.
I then went to the first USB debugging box and unchecked and re-checked the box. Then went back to DOS to load my last two apps and it worked!

Hm... I'm confused. What script, and where exactly are you getting the "Device not found" message from? On the Tablet? On the PC? What exactly are you doing that triggers the message? (i.e. "I click on the download status notification, and click the .apk that I downloaded and it pulls up a dialog that says, "OH NOES! I HATESES YOU! Device not found." ... text invented for humorous intent.)
nevermind, got it! i didn't have the right ADB drivers installed. i just followed this thread post:

Full details on the Nook Tablet in a few hours. I lost the "n" button after reverting to 1.4.0 via Adam's method, and need to retry the whole sequence again after going to a virgin B&N 1.4.0 state. If that works (ie, the "n" button works), I will publish details, but the above is correct.

[Q] Issues since Rooting

This GN2 is my first venture into Samsung phones, coming from a Moto Droid 2 Global. With the Moto I did root, flash several roms, occasionally soft-brick and have to restore to stock- so I am familiar with these concepts. But doing it the Samsung way is totally new to me.
I used the Root66 file to root the GN2. I can use Rom Toolbox and TiBu. FoxFi Wireless works but I cannot get Wireless Tether, Open Garden, or Barnacle to work. They do start up and appear to be working, but my computer cannot see them. I read in another post that perhaps BusyBox should be installed, so I did that with JRummy's version- still no wireless. Wireless tethering is our ONLY internet access at home because we live in an area with no broadband availability.
I also want to install the toolkit, put all apps in Multi-Window, and move apps to SD. Do I have to unlock the bootloader before I can do any of those things?
Thanks in advance for educating this Sammy noobie!
You need to go into settings in wireless tether and play with the driver reload checkboxs until you find an option that works for you. Check the log for errors as well after you turn on tethering.

Toolkit is pretty much useless because it won't let you unlock the bootloader because of credibility issue.
First root your phone as posted here.

I used the method described in this thread. It seems like it worked partially as most of my root apps work however I can not modify system files I am still stuck with read only permission in certain directories. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a current fix. Thank you for your help in advance

what file explorer are you using? i use es file explorer because it's awesome and supports root access. when you choose root explorer, you have to change the file system from ro to rw. by doing that you are then able to modify as you wish.

i ran into the same problem you did. until i found the video that i posted earlier in this thread. if you haven't tried it, then i think there is something you must be missing. if i remember correctly, i might have messed up the first time i tried. try downloading a root checker app in the play store to actually confirm you have root.
Premia Rool
I had the same problem phone did not want to root and super user asked for update. Well I rebooted laptop and phone and followed the you tube video in the thread. It only said failure at the first stage because it was trying to push exploit which was already on the phone from the first time. After rebooting both laptop and phone and running motochopper the third time it said "successful!'" at the rooting stage some thing it had not happened before. then afte phone auto reboot IT WORKED!!. So don't give up.

[q] lg optimus f6 root help

Hello everybody,
I have the LG optimus F6 by Metro PCS. I DID root my device, but am trying to move my apps to my 8gb sd card. I need an app that will actually work. I have tried multiple apps and none are working for me. I need to move large apps such as Facebook and Utorrent to the SD because I am getting messages stating that my "internal memory is full." Additionally, I would like to create wi-fi hotspots but cannot find any apps that work. I DO get popups that say "GRANT SUPERUSER REQUEST" but the app ends up not working...Thanks for your help!

First off I would recommend running the RootChecker just to make sure your device is rooted properly. If it says your rooted great, if not double check that you rooted your device correctly. As far as moving your apps to the sdcard I would recommend taking a look at the app MoveToSD it has always worked well for me when I used my original Motorola Droid which has very limited internal storage. For an app that works well for creating a Wifi hotspot I would recommend taking a look at WiFi Tether for Root Users, as well as FoxFi (Try the free version first and if it works well for you the paid version is well worth the price from my own positive experiences with the app).
hotspot with metropcs
I also have a metropcs with a LG Optimus f6. Too get my hotspot to work I went into phone settings/apps/all. Then scroll down to upsell and disable it. My phone is not rooted and im paying for the $60.00 unlimeted plan. Remember wifi is disabled in your phone not on the network. I am still working on ps3 to tether also will update with progress. Let me know if you have anymore problems.

Root
Hi!
I rooted my LG Optimus f6 D505 with this package. (In the attachment) I think it must work for You too, but remember it can brick Your phone and I don't undertake any responsibility etc...etc...just follow the instructions.
When You unrar or unzip it. But before You do this right clock on the zip package and unblock it! Because Your windows will block it as it is downloaded from the internet. Then run the "install" file as administrator and follow the on screen instructions. Enable USB debugging on Your phone and set the connection type to MTP. I did it and it worked for me. I hope it will work for You, too.
And if You brick Your phone download the LG PC Suite program from the LG's official site and You can restore Your stock ROM with that.
Greetings
Can anyone confirm that ^this^ works? What have other people done?
Use towel root it will work for lg optimus f6. I used the version 1 and it worked successfully there are new updated to the app that i have not tested.
