First one to buy a Verizon G3 in local store - Verizon LG G3

so what is everyone thinking about the phone? I still have my g2 and love it, i just really want the extra storage space for all my media and what not.

Picked mine up today. I'm coming from the g2 also.
Haven't had much time to play with it. First thing I did was change to ART after which I had several lockups, but everything seems fine now.

Mine just came today. Coming from the HTC One M7. Love it so far.
I work for VZ and I've talked to the LG guy a few times when he comes by. He had a Korean model of the phone for the past week so I was able to play with the phone a few times before today

Are you still on ART and having no more problem? I had a lot of freeze after switching to ART and now I'm back on dalvik and everything is fine. Do you think ART is actually any faster?

Yeah, I'm still on ART. I've had a couple other freezes and what seems like SODs, but in the last 4 hours it's been great. I think it might be the My Verizon app causing the majority of the issues.
I did a factory reset last night then put ART back on shortly after. Actually didn't run dalvik long enough to compare. I was on ART on my g2 and would strongly prefer to stay on it.

Random Reboots, I'm baffled

Hey guys, is anyone else getting these random reboots? Its happened several times now and I got the phone on Friday morning. Last time it happened ( 10 min ago), i was in XDA app. When it reboots the red charging LED comes on for a second. I have no idea why its doing this.
Return it.
Are you sure I should return it already? I was wondering if maybe it was common among many people.
Sounds like a faulty phone, simply go get another one. Sprint knows there is going to be issues and will be happy to replace them. I nor my friends have had a problem with it yet.
yeh sounds defective...i haven't had a single non-initiated reboot since wednesday...

Ehh alright i really didn’t want to have to return it or anything. Guess I'll take it to sprint later this week
At least do a clear storage first. Then see. That's probably the first thing they would do... and then they would tell you to come back if the problem continues. This way, you have at least eliminated that as a possibility. Also, what all did you install? This could be an app doing it.
Yuppers...no reboots here. Not since the Hero days I'd say its an app or your phone.

Hmm true, Im guessing an app is eating my ram because I constantly.have over 50% used

I just got a random reboot while using speedtest.net app. I ran like 4 in a row, then suddenly it shut down and booted up. I am pretty sure I'll be returning mine, as I've had a slew of other random bugs/issues going on. I was trying to determine if it's just buggy software, or if there is a problem with the phone.
What other issues do you, have? I noticed one otjer thing that htcs task.manager and the built in running services from the settings app show different amounts of memory and amt used/free. I'm betting this is just software issue. I really dont want to have return and resetup my phone

Get all the updates and then do a factory reset and see how it works after that.
I had the random reboots. I tried hard reset without any apps and without setting up email and I'd still get the reboots randomly. I exchanged it for another one at Bestbuy and I haven't had a single reboot since. Even with all my apps, email, and calendars setup. I'd return it! Also, I did not install the updates on either phone. I just tried the speedtest.net app four times in a row and I did not get any reboots. Let me know if you want me to check out anything else.
I was having the same problem before and after otas. I was also getting a blank screen once in a while too. I got mine wed and probably pulled the battery about 20 times. Finally broke down and did a factory reset by holding the volume key down when powering on and selecting factory reset. Its been fine so far. I also wiped 16gb sd card from evo, formated it in phone and only copied media files over.

I did the same as you too. It seemed better at first but then it started again. I also found that after erasing the sd card with the phone I had folders that where inaccessible after android created the new ones. I ended up formatting the card with windows and deselected the quick format option. That fixed the problem with the sd card. Note all this stuff was with my first phone. The replacement has been flawless.
I'm gonna hold out another week, if I get any reboots in that time, it's back to sprint for a new one.
I got mine on Friday, then all of a sudden out of no where I started getting random reboots last night about every 10 minutes, then when I was able to get it to stay on for a while the screen would just go black and the buttons stay lit up though. Oddly enough it was doing that all last night and all this morning, until about 9 this morning and since then it's been running fine. I was able to track down my problem somewhat at least, for some reason it kept trying to sync my exchange account and it was unable to sync, and every time i tried to open up that email account to delete it, the screen would go blank. Even though everything is working know I'm still going to the sprint store today to see if they will exchange it.

[Q]'s - Problems with Photon.

This weekend I upgraded to the Photon 4G for $99 at Best Buy (gotta love Labour day weekend offers).
I'm moving from an HTC Evo 4G. The first problem is the worst. Since picking up the Photon 4G I have had to pull the battery 5 times as the phone refuses to wake... With the HTC if I had an issue I could reboot by holding down the power and volume button, but the Photon doesn't seem to have this feature, so I'm forced to remove the back cover and pull the battery...
I don't seem to be able to re-create the issue. Its just happens without notice... Anyone else having this issue? Is their an easier way to coax the phone back to life rather than pulling the battery?
The second issue is the screen. Every single review I have read has said that the screen is a Photon 4G strong point... I'm not convinced... Yes it is bright and vivid, but I seem to have an annoying grey criss cross pattern all over the screen. I'm not sure if its my eye's (the GF says she can see it too) but I was expecting the screen to look better than both my EVO and Xoom... This annoying grey criss cross gauze (especially visible on white backgrounds) is disappointing..
What do others think? Colour gradients also appear to band very easily, rather than being smooth.. I'm not sure if this is a result of compression in pictures tho...
Other than that, I am happy with the phone. Big improvement over the EVO 4G i had befor, just a screen I have to get used too, and this un-responsive issue to fix...
Oh, and having to get used to Motorola's Android button layout and Standard Android icon changes is a little painful at times...
Swap out for new one for wake problem. Turn brightness down to 30 percent and screen is fine. Had all top HTC phones and this beats all.....keep this phone....
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I get that sometimes, but fail to replicate at the store. Store employees will only recommend to wipe the phone.
The pentiles pixelation is only noticeable when your face is extremely close to screen. Its a cell phone not a tv display lol, stop holding it so close and you'll be fine! Im on my first phone with no issues yet; just to be on the safe side i would swap for a new device.

Actually, the sale has been going on for close to 3 weeks now. Sorry you are having issues, have you tried a factory reset then not install any apps (or not many) for a couple days to see if it was one of them?
An opinion......
I try to avoid the Sprint stores as much as possible. There are some knowledgeable reps out there but it is a small percentage. Most of them don't know much about the devices. Call the Sprint support number first and try troubleshooting with them. In my experience, they are better at going the distance to make the customer happy than the peeps in the stores especially if you keep on them about it.
Sounds like a swap out is needed. Good luck.
Go back to BB and try to swap it out for another one. Had my photon for about 3 weeks now and never had this issue
I have to agree it sounds like a hardware issue and merits a swap. I've had the photon 2 1/2 weeks and have only had to pull the battery once.
Mine has been freezing and needing a battery pull every day. I went through Sprint VIA phone and they sent me to the store. The Technician actually researched it and it is a know software issue that will be fixed when the next OTA software update is released. I went from the silent call issues to my phone turning off/freezing and I don't even know that its not working. Not happy at all right now
I've just got back from Best buy after my phone refused to wake up again for the second time today.... I let them try and get it turned back on again which they couldn't do without pulling the battery... Either way they immediately confirmed they'd swap it out. Until she went to pull one and realised they are all out
My replacement arrives Friday when they get restocked.... Best Buy must have sold loads since Friday because their shelf was piled pretty high when i picked mine up...
So hopefully the new one will work properly, or maybe I'm just plagued until the next OTA...
As to everyone who gave me suggestions about the screen... you were right. Turning down the screen brightness pretty much solved the issue all together and I think I am officially used to it now...
Just wish i could get my EVO 3D ringtone , Alarm and notifications on the Motorola. I grew more attached to them, than I thought

OK, I did not think that it could be my SD card causing the issues with the phone freezing up and needing a battery pull to get it back on but the Technician asked me if it was a new card or from another phone. I said It was from two or three phones ago. They said that I should format the card because the files from the older phones can cause problems such as this, after copying my photos over to the computer to be able to put back on the card afterwards of course. They had left my SD card out of the phone. So to test things, I haven't put my SD card back in since two days ago. My phone has not restarted or frozen up once. I will give it some more time and report back, but in the mean time, until there is an OTA fix, if you are using an SD card from another (previous) phone, and your having the freezing/power down/restart issues, you may want to give formatting your SD card or removing it to test if it fixes the problem a shot. Good luck, so far so good.
I've not used an SD card at all since purchasing my Photon. On the Plus side, it has not stopped working at all so far today
Had the same problem when I bought my 2nd photon this time at best buy becuase of the $99 deal.
On the 1st one i got directly from a sprint corp store, no issues at all. But this one on the 1st day I got a reboot issue. second day got the SOD. went in they had some trouble getting it on. Had to tell them to take the batt out and it went on. My problem was that they had none available. so for 3 days I waited.
Funny thig is that I wasn't getting the SOD again. Just didn't want to chance it so got another one, yesterday. Happy today.
There were no motorola photon availble in my area. So they are selling.
Good luck with yours.
OK it's not the sd card causing the issues. It's back to freezing up 1-9 times per day and then I need to do a battery pull and restart the phone. Motorola wants the phone back to repair it. This should be a great Two weeks and if the phone is not fixed, I will lose it........ For sure

Ok, if this information is correct from Sprint, I know why I am having all these problems with mine freezing up and after having done several hard resets and many calls to Sprint and a visit to the service center with no fix. Apparently there was a batch of Photons that got shipped with corrupt firmware. When the phone uses that portion of the firmware, as a safe mode, it freezes. There is no fix other than replacement with a non effected phone. They ordered me a new one, that I will get on Tuesday. The only way they can correct it until there is an OTA patch is to send it back to Motorola. Wish me luck with this one
Update....
So here is the update....
5 Days of Ownership - A total of 9 shutdowns of the phone with the only way to get it turned back on again was by pulling the battery. On the 9th time, I went directly to Best Buy to show them. They agreed without question to replace it. Unfortunately they had sold out so I had to wait 2 more days for the next shipment. Gotta say Best Buy were excellent tho. I had 1 further shutdown before getting my brand new replacement.
3 Days of brand new replacement Photon 4G ownership - I am disappointed to say that I have had 1 shutdown so far and this was on the second day. Not sure if I want to Jinx myself but the shutdown rate is lower in the first 3 days than it was with my original.
But it's looking more and more like it's a bug in software than hardware. Either that or I get the DUD from two completely separate batches of phones.

Well, I got my brand new replacement yesterday at the Milton Massachusetts Sprint Repair Center and as of yet no shut-down, or freeze-ups. I have my fingers crossed here on this one. If not I will be reprogramming another new one soon. They did assure me that this is not affecting every Photon, but there was a large batch released with this corrupt firmware. Its like a waiting game to see if its a dud or not. I do love this phone, and I am getting tired of setting up these phones over and over again, but on a good note, I can completely customize my phone and all my apps in about thirty minutes from activation

[Q] Reboots

Anybody's evo lte reboot? my does it constantly now. This is the second day I've owned it. The first day it rebooted once randomly and I discounted it as a glitch. Now I can't even use the thing, it's "almost" stuck in a reboot loop.... going to sprint tomorrow but I thought I'd ask.
Mine did so I exchanged it.

Thanks a ton. Did it today and so far this one is working great. The guy at sprint couldn't believe it for some reason, and apparently there isn't much stuff on the sprint forums about it. I told him that I found a bunch of stuff at XDA. Anyways it rebooted 4 times while I was there right in front of him. Sounds like they almost never do exchanges.. at least at this store. Anyways, thanks for the help.
That's good to hear. Mine didn't reboot in front of the tech but at least I had the crash report from when it rebooted while I was waiting.

Mine was doing that all the time.. Over the weekend I did a factory reset (Power Button / Up Vol) and then updated the PRL. That seemed to help for about a day and half. But the problem resurfaced. I had only added some of my apps back and setup my blue tooth headset. I was at first thinking it was my blue tooth caused the issue. Yesterday while I was at work it rebooted at lest 12 different times.. Even when I wasn't even touching it.
So I called support first and they opened up a case for me. I dropped by Sprint after work and they took it back and did their checking of the phone.. Here's what I found out.
1. My phone was apparently a revision behind. Can't say for sure if that is true because I didn't note down what I had before i brought it in. So I'll take their word for it. Obviously they factory reset the phone again.
2. The rep I worked with informed me that there is some glitchy apps out there. One that he mentioned that kind of stood out was Go SMS Pro.
Well to continue on here. The phone didn't reboot again after they did their thing. But today I had reloaded and then setup GO SMS Pro again and all of a sudden my reboot problem resurfaced. So I removed Go SMS Pro completely off the phone and I haven't had a reboot since. That was over 12 hours ago. I'll keep an eye on it and also notify the developer just in case. But if you like to use Go SMS like I do that might be part of your problem.
My suggestion make sure you have the latest software revision and then keep an eye on your apps and see if one of them might be causing "System Crash" on your phone.
Hope this helps!!!
I have had about 2 random reboots since May 30th.

A few minor issues...should I be concerned/return?

Got the Sprint Note 3 on launch day. Great phone. However, last night, I kept getting a message that said "Samsung WatchOn Has Stopped". I didn't remember turning it on, and I got this message several times. I have also had trouble getting stuff to download from the play store, but last night it finally started downloading fine. I am staying at a hotel(traveling for work), so their WiFi could be the issue there. I kept getting error 500. And I could always try removing and re adding my Google account. Last, but not least, my power button is ever so slightly crooked(power, not home). The side towards the bottom of the phone sits slightly lower than the side towards the top. Anyway, this is my first Samsung, I've always had HTC, so maybe the phone it's just built this way. Sorry to sound retentive, but the phone wasn't cheap, and I usually keep my phone's for 2+ years, do if there are any issues that warrant a return, I want to return it while I can still get a NEW replacement. Has anyone else experienced any of this? It's any of this a big deal? Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or am I being a worry way for no reason?
I too just left HTC for this phone. Taking some getting use to. If you feel that uncomfortable I would take it back...

Well I have another week to return it. I will feel it out some more, just to be sure these aren't user errors. As for the button, I dunno what to think, but it is barely noticeable, and doesn't impact functionality at all. So, maybe I am making too much of it. Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced these issues. I may or may not take it back to exchange it for a new one, time will tell. I had to exchange my first EVO 3D after two weeks due to constant force closes, but the second one worked like a charm for the next 2+ years.
If you have any questions about the reliability of your Device return it ASAP. You only have 14 days to exchange from ORIGINAL purchase date and it might take a few days to figure out if your replacement is also a lemon but by then 14 will have passed and you'll be relying on the carrier to fix.

Funny you mentioned the EVO 3D, I was just thinking, had that phone came with LTE instead of Wimax I would still be using it...I loved that one more than any of the many others I have had...
The top of the phone is slightly thicker on the back due to the camera, but if you mean with the screen laying flat that could be an actual issue. As far as the play store, I know there was some issue with it a couple days ago but try clearing the cache for the play store app and if all else fails a factory reset to see if the problem persists. I came from the HTC One and I'm loving this phone, but definitely take it back if there are recurring issues.

I mean it it's uneven when looming at the BACK of the phone. When looking at the side of the phone(the top of the button), it is perfectly straight. When looking at the BACK off the phone, you can see that the button sits slightly lower on the bottom than the top. And I do mean slightly. It also presses a little more easily on the bottom, with less pressure. It doesn't feel loose or anything, and every display I have played with has had a different feel to its buttons. Some more like mine than others. I think it's because the power button Has a single point of contact, unlike the volume buttons, so most of them seem looser on one side or another...?
Got another "unfortunately, Samsung WatchOn has stopped" message this morning. Again, I didn't start this app. Probably gonna take this back for exchange.

Did that yesterday, but have gotten the message once more since. Didn't install greenify though.
Got the phone yesterday and saw the same Watchon problem. Haven't used it yet, just setting it up. The Google Play error 500 is on Google's end but it's fixed now. The home button has some play. The rear cover can be easily removed without damaging the camera cover. So far so good, not enough annoyance to warrant a return yet/

LG G5 - Any Boot Looping Issues?

Hello,
I have a question about this, I had an LG G4 that had the Boot Loop error which occurred in the last week of January, long story short, has anyone had these problems with this new model? I know they' must have fixed this, but the biggest reason I'm asking this is the LG G5 Unlocked RS988 that is being sold here on Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/LG-Unlocked-P...keywords=g5&qid=1463100037&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1
So far has had a couple of reviews and two people have complained about the boot looping issue, I'm not sure if they're trolling or what, but I figured I'd speak to owners thus far since it's been over a month since it's been released. Really considering this as well as the HTC 10 and S7 Edge as my next device, thanks guys.
no troll.
I bought mine April 1st (Sprint LS992) and it started boot looping a few days ago and finally died completely. I sent it off to LG yesterday to be fixed.

I wish. they gave me "about 8-9 days" turn-around so good thing my rooted G3 is still working.
I actually really like my G5. It doesn't appear to be running much bloat and pretty much everything can be disabled through the OS so even though I havent been able to root it I haven't missed it much now that there's a new ad blocker that creates a local vpn for filtering. I like the screen size more than the G3. Only reason I got it was the screen on my G3 cracked somehow (although the glass screen protector over it did not ). The G5 screen is REALLY easy to replace and I liked that too...although it looks like now, you can buy a new G3 screen already installed in a new frame so all you have to do is move the electronics to a new phone body which you can buy on Amazon for about $60... I like both phones but if the screen on my G3 didn't crack (and the G3 is rootable) I probably wouldn't have bothered with a G5.

Nope. Not even warm. Just hung and started rebooting. Then kept hanging in different stages of rebooting - sometimes it would come all the way up into home screen, other times it would get to asking me for my password during boot, and sometimes it would hang on the Sprint logo. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. First time it happened after 6 or 7 reboots it just finished booting and worked normally after. Several hours later same exact behavior except this time the last time screen went dark as if it was starting another reboot and never came back. Tried pulling battery, pulling sim card/SD card, and even the spare battery that was fully charged - no signs of life since.
LG got it today so we'll see.

Your experience mirrors mine. I had this happen to me last night in exactly the same way. I've opened a case with AT&T and they're sending me a warranty replacement.

Wow, a lot of people now are starting to show up about this, I saw two posts this morning it makes me hesitant to pick this up now.
I'm starting to wonder if this boot looping issue could be associated with LG's software?

I'm currently under the impression that this is a hardware issue. I've never had a software problem cause my phone to become completely unresponsive like this. It doesn't even react to being plugged in to charge (no charging LED comes on, display stays completely off).

The thing is, this happened on the G3 (not much) the G4 (Prominently) and now on the G5. I can't see it being a hardware issue since all of these phones from a hardware perspective are all different from one another. I'm just wondering if it's some type of glitch in LG's UI or something. If it is hardware related maybe it's related to cooling? It's tough to say for sure, until someone really investigates this.
And yet this is hardly a widespread issue, and only seems to affect the US variants

These phones are much more similar in hardware than they are in software. In fact, if you google around a bit about the G4 bootloop issue, you'll find that LG admitted it was a hardware fault with the phone that caused it (I would link directly, but I don't have a high enough post count).
If my phone had any sign of life, I would potentially agree with you, but UI glitches don't hard brick phones.
My wife had an LG G5 and she updated about 22 apps from the Play Store and after the fact the phone kept rebooting. They said they would send another one brand new to replace it.
I spoke with LG and they said that in their opinion one of those apps may have been corrupt and cost the phone to get you in to reboot however I did a factory reset and the issue still prevailed. So we just sent it back to T-Mobile and they sent her a brand new one since it was still within the return policy.
Other than that issue we both have brand new LG G5 that have had nothing but a great experience with these phones.

Oh trust me, I know about LG admitting those faults. I got royally screwed with my unlocked H815 which LG wouldn't honor since it was an international variant (Hence why I was looking at the LG G5 RS988). I didn't care that much because I realized I took a risk with the H815 and well, that's life you can't always win. I mean I did notice pretty crazy overheating prior to the phone Boot Looping but if this is happening within the first month is concerning.
@igotroot a corrupt app was what I originally thought as well, but I had only big name or well known apps. Glad to hear overall you're enjoying it, this is a great device.

I wish. they gave me "about 8-9 days" turn-around so good thing my rooted G3 is still working.

I had the same issue with Sprint LG G5. I bought it in April 13 the from Best Buy. It started to reboot 3 times at first and got real hot before it started rebooting. I took it to Sprint repair center where they suggested to do a factory reset. I told them I can do that. But before I was able to do a factory reset, it finally died. Sprint didn't want to replace the phone since I didn't have insurance. I might have to send it to LG for warranty repair which will take 9 business days. Do not buy the LG G5..
I had the same problem on my H850 (International Version), he went into service after sale yesterday.
Wow. After my G4 issues, I vowed never to go back to LG but with HTC taking their sweet time for a full release of the 10 and not wanting the GS7 (I don't like AMOLED and I've heard horror stories of random camera glass breakage and general fragileness of the glass phone) I thought I'd contemplate a G5. Completely out of the question now.
I'll wait a bit longer for the HTC 10.

I love my G5 and have no issues with it. It's the fastest phone I've ever used, the camera is awesome, and a removable battery and SD are a must for me. This phone has so far been a very quick and reliable phone.
And the reason I got it was because I could not stand my G4 and all the problems that thing had.
H850... Absolutely zero problems. Amazing phone but I will admit, that based on XDA reports, there have been a lot of variance in build quality amongst US carrier builds in particular...
