[MOD] bootanimation.zip support for stock NE5 - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Android Development

This mod will allow the use of bootanimation.zip files that we are so fond of. Here are a few notes on the matter.
1) The bootanimation.zip file must be properly formatted for your device and placed in /system/media. If no file is present , It defaults to the generic Samsung/Android boot anim.
2) Any sound modifications need to be achieved by deleting or replacing the corresponding .ogg files
3} the QMG animations remain on the device. They just aren't used.
4) It can be reversed (manually) by deleteing the file bootanimation located in /system/bin/ and renaming bootanimation.orig to bootanimation
5) As far as I can tell This only works on the NE5 Rom Odexed or DeOdexed
And Finally..
This mod is simply just a binary replacement. I didn't do any real work other than the installer script and this post. I *think* I used the bootanimation binary from the SAMTASTIC Rom. I'm not trying to claim any credit for it. This is just a quick mod for people like me that want a clean Stockish phone but can't seem to live without just a few bells and whistles.
Enjoy...

Thats fine if you pulled it out of my samtastic build, hope it helps.

Rogers boot logo

Hey guys, is there a way to remove the rogers logo on bootanimation, i'm rooted ics and i tried the bootanimation.zip( ex.Nexus7...etc) with root explorer, changed permission, but it's not working, thanks
You'll need a custom kernel that supports bootanimation.zip
Hotwire's oc r2 should do you up nicely.

Ok, but it's not working, maybe i still a Rom for the Rogers GNote to be able to make it work..
Samsung is using .qmg files for bootanimation, Samsung themes are created using the Samsung Theme Designer application. When the designer exports a theme, QMG files (originally .PNG files) are compiled and packaged into an SMT file along with an XML file that specifies where the QMG files are displayed in the theme.
This is a pretty old thread, has there been any progress on it?
I'm running ICS 4.04 with the R2 H0tw1r3 kernel and it doesn't seem to support boot animations.
I've tried a couple fixes like flashing bootanimation4u.zip, placing boot animation files in the appropriate directories and changing permissions etc.
The best I've been able to get is no boot animation, even that took a few tries.

Based on process for galaxy nexus http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413582
See also; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724112
Required;
Root
PNGs of desired icons (get them at galaxy nexus post, link above)
Root Browser (or other decent file manager)
Custom ROM (maybe, not tested on stock)
The usual anti-warranty applies; use at your own risk, use common sense, back up your files, back up your System partition
Decompress your systemUI.apk file from /system/app and replace the system icon PNGs in the /res/drawable-sw600dp-mdpi directory with the PNGs downloadable from the above link, giving them the same name as those in the prexisting .apk, then re-zip rename it as "systemUI.apk", and replace the original systemUI.apk in /system/app. Then set permissions to rw-r-r, and reboot. Confirmed working only on custom Roms.
Edit: note when you decompress, you'll get a folder called systemUI. When you go to re-zip, you want to multi-select the contents of that folder and then make a zip of them to normal compression. Then rename the product .zip file as systemUI.apk. its probably a good idea to backup your original systemUI.apk... You should modify the systemUI.apk from your ROM, or be running the same ROM as myself, just to be safe- i have not tested mixing and matching ROMs and systemUI's and it could be potentially dangerous, as I cannot guarantee that they will be compatable.
Attatched- my screenshot (im using a subtle reflection theme) and a modified systemUI.apk (from the screenshot) - only tested on the ROM I'm using - a cm10 euroskank nightly
*don't try to install sysuemUI.apk like an app, it will do nothing.
Known bugs- no downward ^ when keyboard is up (probably an easy fix)- this is because the galaxy nexus files do not include one...
I take no credit for this process, only for writing this post. All credit goes to the author of the original galaxy nexus post
Feel free to post your screenshots and modified systemUI.apk's This is my first how-to, so let me know what you think, and how I can improve it. I'm an official noob, so I'm sure I've left something out. Let me know anything I could mention regarding other custom and stock ROMs as well. Don't forget to hit Thanks

Change AT&T Bootanimation on Stock based Touchwiz roms.

This is a guide that I do not remember being posted anywhere, but if it has been, mods feel free to remove
This is for Stock based touchwiz roms ONLY where the dev hasn't added a custom bootanimation, and instead the stock ATT globe animation (which is a .qmg file instead of a zip ) is present. CM, PA, or AOKP roms do not need this, as you can just replace the bootanimation.zip file in /system/media for them.
First off special credit goes to Androidmechanic for pointing me in the direction of the thread to do so located HERE
The thread has some pretty clear instructions, but apparently some people still had problems with getting it to work, so here's what I did:
1.) Download Busybox from the playstore, open up the app and follow the instructions to install it. Even if you already have busybox from a previous time, a clean install of a fresh one will make this process work.
2.) Download the Bootanimation4u.zip AND Bootanimationzip4u.Samsungani.Only.zip from the thread linked above.
3.) Reboot into recovery and flash the Bootanimation4u.Samsungani.Only.zip FIRST, then flash Bootanimation4u.zip (I'm not sure if it is needed to flash both, but this is what I did to get it working.
4.) Reboot. Then paste any existing Bootanimation.zip files that you may have into /system/media through use of a root browser (ES File explorer, Root Browser, etc)
OR
if you don't have any bootanimation.zip files handy
you can download Boot Animation from the playstore and download and install from a PLETHORA of bootanimations. If you choose to do this follow these instructions, courtesy of XDA user ReelFiles
- install Boot Animations Root from the Play Store.
- Go into the app's preferences and change install location to /system/media/ and leave the default filename (bootanimation.zip) and go back to the main screen.
-. Select any bootanimation from the Server tab and hit Install. (Tablet ones at the bottom of the list look best.)
- Select the installed bootanimation again and hit Resize. Set it to 800x1280 30FPS.
-Tap the options key and select "Preview current" Make sure you like it and reboot.
You don't have to delete the .qmg files that Samsung uses for their bootanimation for this to work, but if for some reason this doesn't work for you, try deleting them and see what happens
Once done your bootanimation should be set! Happy Flashing!

Shutdown animation is located system/media/video/shutdown. There is a shutdown.qmg file. I replaced mine with the stock intl' Samsung shutdown qmg file. Looks much better.
I have a request to make.I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 running Lollipop 5.0.1 and i tried and flashed the file but nothing happened, but the reason is probably becouse i tried this method first ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ection-how-t1897969/post31833122#post31833122 ) and made a mess of things. Now i see only the Samsung GS4 inscription and the blank screen until the device boots up.I want to switch back to the default boot animation but i can't seem to get it back no matter what i try and i no longer have my system/bin folder bckp.If you can point me to where i can download one or you have it and can shre it with me i'll be immensely grateful.
I've a Samsung S3 I9300 with Android 4.4.4: this method works with my device?
And is there a collection of bootanimation here on XDA?
Thanks
anyone know how to go back to using qmg files?

Good Work There. But if you could create the zip flashable it would have been easier to use.
Keep it up
Here you go guys, a flashable zip.

The flashable zip (walkman + foxhound) doesn't work for me (arvarobert's one works without any problem). It gives a ''cant open zip file (bad)'' error. I've extracted the boot animation and pushed it manually, works like a charm. I'm using xperia mini + rage kernel. Also are you planning on making a version without the walkman logo (only foxhound)?

I apologize Grof87,
I hope I didn't screw up your phone or anyone else's
Flashables removed for now, I guess I don't know how to make them properly(still a noob)
But yes I can do Foxhound only, I have to go to work right now but I'll make it once I get out.
Once again, sorry for the trouble.

Unfortunately it's not working, it gives a black screen with no music during boot (phone boots up normally), I've placed the file in system/media nad set the permissions to rw--r--r, foxhound with walkman works without a problem. Can you look into it?
EDIT: I've just flashed walkamn+foxhound thru CWM and it's giving me a simple ANDROID boot up animation??
EDIT2: Tried using the boot animation from your manual install zip (fox+walkman, fox only isn't working) and it's working perfectly, there's something wrong with those flashable zips
That's weird. I got those zips from arvarobert's links all I did was rename them and reupload. Let me test everything and try to get this straightened out
EDIT: Those zip were corrupted when i opened them with winrar, I will upload the proper ones soon
Sent from my WT19i
Ok So I went through and checked(checked for corrupted and installed through CWM) every file and re-uploaded them with proper ones.
I've also made the Foxhound only flashable.
There should be no more problems, Grof87 I really appreciate the feedback and your patience.(Now hopefully you can enjoy that boot animation that I promised you finally lol)

No problem mate, thank you for taking the time to make these awesome animations, I've just tested the new foxhound only flashable and it's working!
Can i in any way, put these on my Galaxy Nexus?
I'm unsure as I do not own a Galaxy Nexus. The sounds might work if you rename them to the files u want to replace

if this was still exist, how'd you set permissions? it seems that it cant even launched it

Samsung QMG Animation Boot - Post here as many as possible.

Galaxy Grand Prime Boot animations
As you know, samsung touchwiz new ROMs have a .qmg file format for their boot animations. This is a small tutorial on how to change your boot animations
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device. Make a nandroid backup just to be sure. I am just showing what you need to do.
You need to have a:
Rooted device
Aproximate knowledge
(Optional) Custom Recovery.
Well,okay.
This is what you'll need to do:
Download the boot animation in a zip form wich has the qmg files. Be aware that our phone has a 960x540 resolution.
(Optional) Make a nandroid backup if you don't have one.
Flash the zip file.
Now,wait probably 5-6 seconds on the"Samsung GGP Powered by Android " screen, the system searches for the animation and "cooks" it.
Optional,if no Custom Recovery is installed
Download the zip format file with qmg files. (probably you'll like to have ZArchiver,Es File manager or ay other file manager that you like)
Extract the files and replace them in the root/system/media. You'll see here your original qmg files, rename them .bak (eg. shutdown.qmg.bak) and change the permissions to rw-r-r.
Reboot and hope for the best.
USE THIS THREAD TO POST NEW BOOT ANIMATIONS.You can freely post here you bootanimations if those are yours,if not POST THE AUTHOR'S LINK here.
!!! do not use mediafire for your/public bootanimations since it corrupts files and that's the last thing we want.
bro bootanimation is easy, i need help whit bootlogo plissssssss
