[Q] Z2 sound problems/Root benefits - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello buddies!
Well, my Xperia z2 is the Brazilian version(d6543) with the firmware 17.1.A.2.55, and I got a problem in the speakers.
Sometimes, music only plays on the top speaker, I noticed that after hearing a whatsapp audio recorder. And sometimes also it goes only to the top speaker when I receive a notification or when I press the "hardware buttons" (home, back and the other ). And sometimes notifications and hardware buttons sound only plays trough the top speaker.
And this really annoy me, there is a way to solve this?
Plus, which are the benefits, the problems and why I should root my z2? Will I loose something? And about that drm and the TA files? I still don't get what I should do with them.
Cheers.

55 firmware is very buggy try updating to a new FW
Rooting- an android phone has user access which means your limited to user, no system no root access, rooting alows root access meaning %100 controll of your system from inside your phone, this alows alot of modifacation, and controll of stuff such as processor clock and stuff like that
The drawbacks is it is potentialy unsafe as you can damage your phone from it
Unlocking your bootloader wipes your TA which your TA contains useful UNIQUE things about your device such as DRM KEYS
You can root your device and backup your TA, you can find what you need in the development sections

Light Flow app - needs root or not ?

http://www.appbrain.com/app/light-flow-led-control/com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow
Does anyone have this app and working on unrooted Xperia S or is the root required ? I need it a lot to make those Viber messages without vibration but I have tried it whole day and I got nothing, it does not work, I always get default notification and vibration.
Thanks
Nobody uses this great app !?!? I mean, it is great in description because I cannot try it. Can someone please try it on unrooted and rooted phone and then report if it works ? I really hope that there will be soon simpler way to root this phone like other Androids.

I was using it for a while - and it kind of worked... - but i am rooted... but ... i was put off because it would sometimes get into a fast flashing frenzy - and needed a reboot to stop it...decided it wasnt very stable with our phone...
Sounds like you already know the answer - which from your test, is that it won't work without root...
Ok, tnx, too bad that there is no simple root with SuperOneClick root app. I dont want to mess with that bootloader unlocking thing and play with my warranty and I really want this app to be ok because I want to remove vibration from Viber messages etc.
Tnx for the tip.
I use light flow and it works great. Never had any problems with it. Not sure if it requires root but I can check it out and report back. I find that rooting this phone is easy but not one click easy.
Please check if you are rooted and report here, I dont want to unlock bootloader because I dont know if it is easy to lock it again in case of some warranty problems.
Tnx
You don't need to root your phone to use light flow. I tried it before worked like a charm

Jeez, are you sure ? And you could remove vibration from SMS or Viber messages ? I really dont understand what am I doing wrong. You havent unlocked bootloader and with no root ? I really want to use this app but it simply does not work, not on .67 or .73 firmware...
I install free version and cracked one to try but neither one is working, I can tick Acessibility and everything, I can test notification and it shows me LED color that I want but when I get Viber message, I get default tone and vibration and orange LED and I have chosen blue. Do I need to turn something off in order to get it working ?
Tnx
Have you disabled the sounds in viber?
I am sure it's working without root perhaps you might need to off something for viber? For me I used the app to only change the led notification for other apps such as whatsapp twitter tweet deck etc and they all worked

Tnx a lot guys, developer just emailed me and told me that one user had the same problem and he has made factory reset of the phone settings and now it works also on my, phone, that is great news, so if anyone would need this info, just make factory reset of settings, there is no need to delete anyting.
I have turned OFF notification sound in Settings and I have made all notifications custom but Viber is still vibrating and has that default Viber sound. Is there a possibility to turn OFF his default notification and use Lightflow and how ? I have unchecked everything in Viber settings, this is really stupid, I can manage notifications in WhatsApp but Viber is a disgrace in that department.
I must turn off Gmail notification in Gmail app when using Lightflow because if I dont, then I have 2 notifications. Dont know how to solve Viber puzzle.

[Q] First ever Sony phone

Hope I put this in the right forum, this is my first ever Sony phone and I really want to get used to the Sony way of doing things on Android.
I'm just wondering how to hide apps on the app drawer?
How to uninstall some of the bloat?
What is the likely hood of getting updates (Like 4.4.2 to 5.0.0)?
When on the phone the sound is really low, anyway of turning it up?
Questions do go in QnA so this is in the right place
Hiding apps i think there isnt a way yet exept GEM xposed module but you need root
Removing bloatware, some can be uninstalled or disabled via settings > apps and some you actually need root if the previous options arent avaliable
Xperia flagships usualy have 6 to 36 month update plans so very likely to get Android "L"
And volume can be controlled via the rockers on the side (changes depending on what your doing aka playing music they control media vol)
Or you can review and change all via settings>sound>volumes
This may be useful to you

Softer Notification sound after 4.4.4 update

I don't know if anyone notice that after updating to 4.4.4,everything is awesome so far except some issues that i just noticed after updated mine this morning.
One major issue im facing is the reduced sound for notification on messages, emails etc.
Volume is set to max yet the sound of notification is greatly reduced. When i tried playing the tones in the library itself, the volume are just fine. They are reduced when notification is received.
Restarting the phone does not fix it. Anyone else experiencing the same?
One more issue is the lowered frame rate in camera mode. Its not as smoother as before update. It lags just like the camera mode on iphones. I still can take well photos though.
UPDATE : i actually did a factory reset and the camera lag indeed disappear! love the fast focus. Or you can just simply clear the camera data in setting and that should do the trick.
Also regarding the notification sound, try to pick a longer and striking ringtone as they tend to sound louder and noticeable even in reduced volume. Using the tone called Soft Bells which serves enough sound of alert. It solves my problem for now. Overall im happy with this update
You need to do wipe data , install a fresh Rom with factory data reset
it is recommended when update from one android version to another like ( 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 )
hmm is there alternative fix option? because i do not wish to go through the hassles of restoring everything..

umm my phone is non root fyi. I hope to get more responses about this if not i guess il do a factory reset
Hardly anything about such things can be done when you're not rooted, sorry.
Camera frame rate slow
Yea, I've got the same problem too with the frame rate in the capera app after the update.

Is Factory data reset really solve this notification sound issue?
My Z2 with 0.314 firmware had same issue. and new firmware didn't fix it.
Same issue here before 4.4.4 it was really loud
After the update its really low sound, whats going on here? can anyone just confirm if installing a fresh rom solves this issue casue i dont think everyone in the world is gonna fix the issue by installing rom with flashtool...
My Z2 has had really low notifications from day 1 ive tried every single mod known to man also hoped with each new update SONY would fix it which will never happen as the y wont admit theres a problem
If we cant root 4.4.4 how can we apply this mod ?
Sony DOESN'T need to admit as prior to the 4.4.4 update, nobody was complaining about notification sound.

I rooted 4.4.2, installed xposed and viper4android, I cranked up my volumes and all is well. With headset off, I can lower the volume to the last step and it's still pretty loud. Maybe too loud lol.
Anyway, root is beautiful and viper4android is just a requirement for me since my galaxy s3. Look into it, wait for a rooting method and just mess with those sound options for now.
There might be a patch if it's really that bad still.
I think I'll wait for updating to 4.4.4 Thanks for the heads up.

Well that cant be true as there's mods for each of the previous firmwares
why would there be mods if there was no problem?

That is not true. On my .314 driven Z2 the notification sound is lower when I get a message or something(I actually tested the thing many times to see if I was right and I was) than when I play the same notification tone in sound picker in settings with media volume taken to maximum. Call ringtones, on the other hand, they work the same, be it settings or nomal day usage.
So there is problem and do little research before you say something that is not truth because many people complained about that. But we didn't spam Sony with it enough so they don't care.
clear audio +
is clear audio helping out? i mean to say that even if there is no xloud included , is sound louder in clear audio + ?
Those mods are for further enhancement and not a remedy as there isn't any existing notification issue prior to 4.4.4
What do you mean further research? It's a fact that notification sound wasnt an issue for majority of users before 4.4.4, maybe I shouldn't blanket it to everyone and there's a sad 1% who claimed to have notification sound issues.

battery draining fast, it was perfect before update.
I am facing the same issue people can't hear me in a call. Another issue is the homescreen On the latest 4.4.4 widgets like shortcut widgets disappears when u restart ur phone. every time u have to set the widget manually. Download NQ mobile security open the app, in the app go to settings and add optimization shortcut. u will see a new widget like an icon of a rocket when u restart ur phone it will disappear. in the previous update it used to work fine now it disappears. Same thing happens when u use wdget shortcut like this... BUG IN THE HOMESCREEN! NEVER BUY SONY PHONES!!!
My widgets are fine even after a reboot.
I love my sony phone

Ringtone and notification are very low now is a fact, Sony doesn't even bother to test their software before sending to us, the only way is to root and to look for a sound enhancement mod, and rooting 4.4.4 is not clear for now, or maybe it's clear for some who doesn't wanna share the knowledge for a step by step how to root guide.
as for the call quality, please go to settings>Sounds>Audio Settings>Mic sensitivity select high
hopefully this will really fix and enhance the call quality.
No it is not... Every widget is fine except the shortcut widget download NQ security I will understand what I am saying give it a try

There is a number of posts with step by step instructions for how to root. It's very simple.
Locked Bootloader
1. Down grade to 4.4.2,
2 root and install recovery for locked bootloader
3 install rooted 4.4.4 zip through recovery.
Unlocked bootloader.
1 flash a kernel with recovery
2 flash Superuser zip through recovery

Question Is there a way to restore missing DRM functions like was done in a MOD for Z series?

see this: https://www.naldotech.com/restore-drm-keys-unlocking-bootloader-xperia-devices-lost-drm-keys/
This does not exactly restore the DRM keys, but does restore lost functionality which is the main reason people would like the DRM keys back.
Is it possible to do the same mod for the Xperia 1 III/IV?
The features that mod restores are no longer lost when unlocking the boot loader on modern Xperia phones. You only lose 4K/HDR Netflix capability as you lose widevine L1 keys.
When you relock the bootloader and use repair with xperia companion, the drm keys get restored but only with xperia 1/5 i,ii,iii and probarly also with iv series.
There is no need for DRM messing on these phones. I have unlocked bootloader to de-google my device and activate call recording, haven't seen any quality issues. I don't care about Netflix , social media "brain sheep washing" or gaming. My device works fine. Really having enough of going to a party and 90% of my friends cannot put the phone down for 2 minutes and have a conversation.
