Best way to prevent bending/twisting in pocket? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

I've got an XZU on the way and I'm a little concerned about it bending/twisting because I plan to keep in my front pocket (and i don't want to have to remove it every time I sit down). I've read that the front and back tempered glass screen protectors stiffen up the device - is this the best method to prevent deformation? I also see an aluminum bumper case is available that may stiffen up the device but may affect signal. Any other methods?

I think this is by far the best method: Don't keep it in your pocket.

I have incipio feather back case and still it sometimes bends so your best option is to be careful.

don't sit down with it if tight pockets, I haven't bent mine - I do have a flip case though.
The thing is only 6mm thick and very long so some caution is needed, and common scence

[Q] How protected is your vibrant?

I personally love the feel of my vibrant without the silicon casing on but unfortunately, I have to go with it whenever I leave the house to protect it from knicks and knacks (plus I always seem to drop my phone...)
I have a screen protector (REALOOK) and a TPU case. I too like the way the phone feels and looks without a case but yea, it needs to be protected. My old G1 got bang up pretty bad by not using protection... LOL...
I've had my vibrant in a case since day one but still have scratches all over the body. I think the shiny plastic material is just scratch prone. If I had to do over I would have tried some of the clear body armor type product. Definitely love the bare feel, may just go without a case and hope replacement parts become available.

I have the stealthguards screen protector and battery cover protector. Both are mainly on there just for weight and grip and the front is also on to make my vibrant have a flush front.
Silicone = ****
polyurethane Is The Way To Go, Alot More Protective And A Better Fit For Your Phone
I rock mine naked. I had a hard clear case for my G1, but it really didn't do a whole lot of good and my screen didn't get scratched at all. The Vibrant has gorilla glass and you get a 2nd back cover out of the box so I decided to go without.
I've got a realook screen protector and the tmobile gel case.
My battery cover AND the faux metal bezel are pretty scratched up. Been in the case since day one, so I suspect the gel case scratches it. Go figure.
I honestly didn't like the bare feel. Too slippery and small, so now I have a rubber case in it. Fits like a glove and grips better while still sliding out of the pocket without sticking. And of course a screen protector. I kept one on my g1 since day one. Its beaten to hell, the lip part is cracked and the sdcard unmounts if you apply pressure but the screen is flawless lol

I use a Casemate Tough Case and have been using this style of case on all my phones for years. Usually Otterbox, but they took too long this time around so I gave the Casemate a try. I never drop my phone, but I have two kids under 5, so the cases are definitely tested from time to time. There are no better cases if you want real protection, IMO.

I've got the hard Body Glove case with the black rubberized back. I haven't tried any other cases because I really like this one. The phone just felt too fragile to me without a case, this gives it a little bulk and makes it feel a little more substantial.
No screen protector. I haven't seen the need for one. I'm not super careful with it either and will carry it in a pocket with keys and loose change pretty often. Been doing this for 2 months and no scratches on my screen. The screen is definitely pretty tough.
this is a $500 phone, and it's slippery. I drop **** all the time so i got the silicon case. it looks lumpy, but it's worth it.

I have the same case and 3 kids under 5. Its the best option for me and feels really solid while holding.
I have hybrid TPU case, and so do allot of others here

Couldn't have said it better. I use the BG case, and love it -- the look, the kickstand, the added bulk. (The "naked" (ugh) phone is too thin to hold comfortably on a call; and others have said, it's slippery as hell.
I utilized the stealthguard front and back. So its practically naked.. but not naked

I'm amazed by the durability of the screen. I don't make it a habit of putting it in my pocket with anything inside, but when I have and cringed as I pulled it out expecting scratches, to my surprise no scratches.
As a rule, the harder the cover material, the more the shock will be transferred directly to the phone. The same for the sticker types which are more for protection against scratches.
I ended up buying a cover from tmo because the phone felt a little slippery by itself. Its made of silicone and think enough to absord some of the impact if it is dropped and us les likely to slip out of your hand.

I bought the tmo black silicone case. I really like it because it adds grip and gives the phone a more solid, quality feel. One thing I've noticed is if you take the back cover plate off too much...it gets loose and creaky. They really should have gone with the slide lock type.

Case-Mate Tough Case.. no screen protector here
I use a RealLook screen protector and one of these clear, hard cases:
http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=217139826
Super inexpensive (bought 2, 1 extra to have on-hand)! Been using clear hard cases like these since my MyTouch3G and I've dropped it (the MT3G) several times onto concrete without a single scratch or damage to the phone. The case took the brunt of the impact. Put a very small crack in it, but nothing else. Ended up replacing it anyway, but that was enough to make me buy them for the Vibrant now. I just don't get that sense of protection from a semi-thin silicone sleeve. Sort of like gluing a bunch of balloons to the exterior of your car and thinking it's going to protect you in a head-on collision. Just not buying it...

Phone cases?

Just a quick survey of you fascinate users:
Do any of you use cases? I have been for the life of my phone, but I really like how it feels with out one.
For those of you without, how has the build of your phone stood up? Any damage?
I do have the Seidio case and holster for mine. I switch back and forth between using it and not. I only use the holster for when I mountain bike to protect the screen though. I don't have any major damage besides scratches on the battery cover so far.
I use a tpu skin case I got at the Verizon store for like 15 bucks....no screen protector....
It kept wanting to slide outta my hand so I got the case for grippiness and it doesn't add much thickness

I was using a solid plaid case, but the case itself damaged the battery cover. I recommend getting a soft case if possible. I'm currently using Samsung black wallet case; great design and comfort
I don't use a case at all cause I don't like the bulk... I've had the phone for over a year and no problems yet.

Over a year huh? So you were fortunate enough to get your hands on one 6 months before it was released? Props to you on that...
No case here. I use a ZaggSkin on the back and that's it... Minimal bulk, battery door protected, with a little extra grip to boot.
I use the Verizon wireless shell/holster combo. Texturized shell goes on the back of the phone, phone slides into the holster with the shell on, completely protected. And the inside of the holster is felt so the screen doesn't get scratched. Keeps the phone protected, but adds minimal thickness.
Otterbox, commuter. Looks nice gives the phone a good feel without adding too much weight.

Seidio case here. Without the case, the phone seems slightly too thin for me to hold easily so I prefer the extra bulk.
No case/holster here. I dont like the added bulk of one, screen protectors are a tad redundant considering our gorilla glass screens, and any damage to the battery cover can easily be remedied by buying a new one. Im usually good about protecting my phone, but the dings and nicks are definitely starting to add up.

Never used any screen protector or case since September. Only place that has wear us the plastic chrome near the micro USB port. Although it would be nice to get a textured battery cover. This thing is like a wet bar of soap if u have dry hands.

I highly recommend any silicon case.
It might be little bulk to you, but it saved me from drop.
I dropped my SF screen facing down from 3ft and I had just Case on, but i picked it up and it didn't even have 1 little scratch.
TPU case. No screen protection. Gives me the grip needed to keep from dropping with little bulk. removes in .5 seconds to pull batt if I need to.

[Q] Phone getting hotter when using closed cases?

I have 3 TPU cases and one mesh hard case. Every time i use TPU cases, seems like the phone getting hotter (maybe because of a closed space in the back). Since i switch to the mesh hard case, the hot is still there but much better because it's like open space with air flow.
Anyone thinks the same?
The downside of the mesh case is it doesn't have the protection of the top and bottom. It protects side, edges and screen (it "hug" more into the screen and i also have screen protector).
I love the TPU cases. However i keep switching back to use the mesh case just because to avoid the hot of the back (battery).
You could always take a small drill bit and create a mesh back on your tpu cases

With or Without Protection?

Hey, so this a thread i decided to carry over here from the Nexus 5 forum. I've recently switched to the XZU and am definitely loving the build quality and the feel of the device. I try using it from time to time without the case but I'm also pretty concerned about how fragile it is due to its size and slimness. So I'm curious how are you guys using your devices? Does the risk of damaging it outweighs the unwanted bulk of a case for you?
Yes the risk does outweigh.but I can't blame. You for not wanting
To use a protective case for it. Because it hides the true sleekness
Of this beast but it comes. Down to personal Preference I just ordered two cases for it and one of them is a nillkin and the other is a vertical
Leather pouch with the swivel belt clip

It sucks that there aren't that many quality cases for the XZU down where I live. And even when I do find its usually the cheap generic ones. I had bought the Nillkin fresh series which didn't fit well and felt cheap. Then bought another generic fake leather case which doesn't seem to be holding up too well either. I think I might just order one of those Love Mei aluminum bumpers.

I have a glass protector in front and plastic on the back then to carry around I do use a case but when at home, I prefer to hold it naked (the phone!).

If youre holding the " phone" naked then be sure to keep your hands dry as its quite slippery [emoji1] also I do the same with my phone when at home just worried the top and bottom rails paint is coming off from constantly removing the case as it's made of plastic.

Have you placed the front glass screen protector ontop of the ASF?
Those who are using this phone naked please be careful.
I was using it naked for a while and I am very careful with my devices but
unfortunately it slipped out of my hand and hit hard floor. Luckily there is only a slight scuff in the right corner.
I am now using a case.

G5 owners please read...

One of the main reasons i dont wanna go for S7 is becasue even when you put a case on it the screen still pokes out from all angles, which will result in a catastrophe if they phone drops face first.
Since G5 has a similar slope at the top, my question is does the top bit of the screen pokes out or sits flush with the case/cover you use ?
Thanks
I don't have a case for mine yet, so can't say if the case would cover it but the slight curve at the top is only very slight. It still fits flush to the metal top. I can't say I'm worried about it, even without a case on it.
I have an Obliq case. The edges of my case are raised above sreen level all the way around.

If you're looking for hardcore protection (and no use of the modules/removable battery) the Lifeproof Fre is an option.
Thanks for the replies, I managed to order this one from ebay. Its kinda similar to my Supacase on G3 which i like alot. lets see how it goes.
Ballistic case cover all .....and especially if going for top of the line that will be bigger on thickness....but I have no problem dropping my phone from 7-8 feet to the hard surfaces
