Just got my SD card - G3 Accessories

I got a 64gb SD card for storage. Do I need to do anything to allow my apps to write to SD cards? I recall this was once an issue in older versions of android.

Other way round. Previously no problem, now you have to use an app/xposed module to do that

glad I have xposed in. I think i have come across the module. need to look it up.
thanks.

Yeah, it was the other way around. I remember some apps having problems with my Incredible and couldn't store data on the onboard flash.

MicroSD 16GB card within SD card adapter is not recognised.

Hi,
I have used a SD card adapter which has an 16GB microSD card inside it. The card doesn't show in the Settings->Storage. Can anyone help me?
first of all, make sure the card is formated in FAT32.
The tablet won't read it if it's not.

The SD card will never show there. It's not a part of the system storage.
Mine is plugged in now and you can only use the preloaded sony software 'file transfer' to move files to and from it.
The app 'file manager HD (honeycomb) ' by RHYTHM from the market is a must have if you own this tablet and an SD card!! You can still load all your videos and extra files on the SD and view/use them with that application without having to copy them to the system. I use it as the time

I've actually gone back from ES to Astro again. Once you change the settings to make the SD and USB shortcuts point to the right place, the experience is really effortless and seamless. Just my $0.02 obviously.
Ihad the same problem with my 32gb sd card until I formatted it, but now I have only 3.2gb left internally and no way to transfer my game files over to improve the internal memory.OMG.
What wereSony thinking of, I woulde never have bought this if I only had 8.5gb of space.

You must have filled her up hard? I got 3.3GB+5.4GB free on my two "internal" and about 25GB free on my 128GB SDXC card.
lol, yeah, pretty hard. GTA3, brothers in arms and adrenalin 6 are only a few. When i used my Dell Streak I used my 32gb class 10 card and it was half full with games.
I am now having to be a little more selective with what I put on, which isn't that hard since a lot of the games are having incompatibility issues.

I got like 7 psone games and five others on my tablet and still a lot of space. I guess mine is kinda small compared to yours. But the psone at least take a few hundred mb each.
don't know if you already solved your problem but I've inserted a brand new sandisk sdhc card and it wans't recognized either. Then I've tested a lexar sdhc card and no good either.
Conclusion to get recognized:
Open "file transfer" app it's one of your sony s apps
then insert the sdcard and automagically the sdcard was recognized and I can use it
It seems stupid but worked

Will we get App2SD support on JB?

mistake? no friend, that was no mistake they planned that. ics was a major change in android and the apps to sd card thing is history now (at least in stock roms)
and the reason is that external memory can never be as fast as internal memory in running and executing apps. imo

mistake about app2sd? any rooted and open source rom and kernel, can enable this feature. where does jb comes in picture? people have been using it since froyo custom roms.
And yes there is a video wanna suggest you with one million hit and its beautiful to see that sex on the beach:laugh: watch carefully (with subtitles)

internal memory is fast i agree, but it is still not faster than class 10 memory cards.
when i transfer data to internal memory it never went above 8 mbps....but with my class 10 memory card i can transfer with 16 mbps speed....so flash memory isnt always the fastest one

It is not history it's optional. It's a feature still embedded in ICS and Jelly Bean but it just needs to be turned on. They made it optional due to the devices like the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 which had no external memory. So having the feature would be pointless. It can be turned on though. I have a couple devices that has it work through your normal system settings.

The main issue with that is majority of consumers that are using these devices have no clue what a class is in relation to SD cards. Hell half of them think SD cards are SIM cards and vice versa and their pictures are on the SIM xD

I know the modern consumer is anything but "brilliant", but pictures on a SIM card? Lol. That may be a touch harsh, though it did get me to laugh.
On a side note, my current devices happen to be the exact same as yours. Fancy that.
Just rooted p769, installed app2sd and want to move apps. When run app2sd get this message:
"the device does not have a real primary external storage, or the primary external storage is emulated. Moving app to SD function may not be supported by this device."
any alternatives or any way to remap without app2sd or link2sd? I have not tried link2sd yet but it'll probably be similar. Would like to remap or move apps until JB/CM is available which will likely have it integrated.

Now i have a total of 180 apps, most of them are system, pre-installed, removed most bloatware. Don't want to waste internal storage memory completely, would like to keep some apps in phone and have a few hundred megs free internal, the rest moved to externa sd. Hope it's possible.
On the JB there are app2sd but all data of applications is still saving in phone memory.

He's saying that the larger apps such as for example real racing still save the data files to the sdcard. Now the difference is that you can move the actual app to the sdcard.

Yes, sorry for my bad English. We need to root this phone. Jelly bean is great.
I'm so jealous because I have the p769. I hope lg will update soon. I'm hoping with in another week.

I thought with the 4.2.2 upgrade, we could use 64 GB MicroSD cards?

I installed the new update. But I still cant get the 64 GB MicroSD to be seen.
Do I need to format it a certain way?
Format it to exfat

Bought my tablet yesterday. While charging it before turn on I took my 64 Gb MicroSD out of my Galaxy Note and fitted it to the tablet. After turning on the tablet I get update notification. Upgraded to 4.2.2 and it had no problems recognising the MicroSD card. Maybe your card is faulty.
After the update, I was pretty excited to see the users capability. However, when I am on the secondary account, the SD Card is not shown under storage. Is anyone else seeing this? I also noticed you can't turn Stamina on or off from the secondary account, only from the Main User account. I'm assuming this has something to do with Administrator rights, but is there a way to change that so the secondary account can see the SD Card?
EDIT: It appears as though the SD Card issue is the SOP for multiple user accounts. This is why the recent Nexus devices have no SD Card slot. I'm going to try SwitchMe from the Play Store to see if that fulfills my needs.

I didnt have any problem with my sd card which is 64Gigs when I had 4.1.2 although it wasnt Exfat though (not now either) but it still recognizes it as 64 gigs as its fat I cant copy a file that is bigger than 4gigs but I can have 32 almost 50 gigs of data there no problem at all.

[Q] How do I enable App2SD function?

Is this possible? I have a 16GB SD Card and can't do anything with it.
I have exactly the same problem, I bought this phone because of it's adreno 320 GPU. So I would be able to play a lot of games, but pretty soon after buying the phone I discovered that 16 GB of storage wasn't enough. So I bought a 64 GB card. Sadly I haven't been able to move my games to my SD card so I just got kind of stuck. Any info will be greatly appreciated
If you are rooted, you can install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD. It requires you to partition your SD card. I used to use it on my Samsung blaze and it worked quite well.

Yep, using it on my HTC Aria. Pretty much a necessity on that device now, with how big all the apps are these days. I think it has like 110MB of available app storage onboard...

Well it depends on the game, but I use FolderMount to make the game data that's normally stored on the internal SD get stored on the external SD.
This only moves the extra game data that normally gets downloaded for games like asphalt.

Thanks for the reply, can you be a little more specific? As far as I know this phone got an emulated SD card or something like that, that's why apps like link 2 SD doesn't work on the phone, so maybe your method works, but I don't understand how to use it

Link2SD doesn't work? It sees my internal SD, extSD, and, though I'm not using one, a spot for 2nd partition. You sure it doesn't work?
As for FolderMount: it scans the apps on the internal memory and allows you to move the data to the SD while creating a link so the app thinks nothing has moved.
For me it found and allowed me to move the 1GB of asphalt 8 data to the SD.

Any device compatible with Micro SDXC will be able of interacting with a card of any size which conforms to that standard.
Sony only mentions 64GB because that was the largest size when the Togari was released, and so the device was tested against.

I have a 128gb Samsung in mine from Amazon and works perfectly fine it formats ok on the phone but I formatted it as exFat in windows to use the space better.
I purchased the following about a month ago. It is fast (to write) and worked right out of the box. Didn't reformat, like I have in the past but I have it almost filled with music, old TV shows, books, etc.
The Ultra with this card did an amazing job when I was in the frozen tundra for a couple of weeks on a business trip. Best android device I've ever owned.

Yeah, I got it a couple of weeks back at that price too! Before formatting it in the Ultra, I first followed the instructions at the following thread to remove the extra 16mb partition, which is useless.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33768158
I then popped the card in my Ultra, and was able to format it perfectly! Beforehand, the Ultra wouldn't recognize it to even format it and I wasn't able to do it on my PC either, so the above definitely proved useful.

I just ordered this beautiful phone and have been researching accessories. SD card would make sense but I'm curious what people use it for because I keep reading at various sites that it's not possible to move apps to SD card on this device (unlike on my Note 3). Is this true, and if yes what are we actually able to do with the SD card?
Thanks for any info.

You probably can achieve this without root with some app, but the best scenario would be to format the sdcard with either ext4 or f2fs for better performance.
Some kernels support f2fs.
This will increase performance a lot.
Will be back. A bit busy now..

Thanks. Would formatting the sdcard mean I will have to root to run apps installed on it? My concern is that this phone needs to be for work as well so I need to run Airwatch on it for company emails etc.
Unfortunately I think it's likely if I root the device Airwatch will have a problem with that because of some type of security restriction.
Does anyone know if at least music files and maps for gps apps like Sygic and Navigon can be stored on the SD card (while the music and gps apps themselves are installed in the 16GB internal memory)? Can this be done with stock rom (like I'm able to do with my Note 3)?

Yes you will need to root your device in the first place to begin with.
You need root to be able to:
* Move or link apps/data to sdcard1
* Hide your root status
* Use an alternative file system on sdcard1
All the apps I found from a quick search, who handles these tasks require a rooted device.
Also If you want to increase performance by using ext4 or f2fs formatted card.
Formatting the sdcard can be done from either twrp recovery or via software on the computer if you have an sdcard reader.

Hiding root status.
There is a way to hide root status from specific apps
You can install Xposed framework and install the module
RootCloak
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.devadvance.rootcloak
or
Good for Enterprise Disable Root Check
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.phantasm.xposed.gfesecuritypatcher
I have never used an app like this so I have no idea if its working or not. And or if its working on lollipop if you have latest update installed on your mobile device.
RootCloat was updated 2014-01-14 and Good for Enterprise Disable Root Check was updated 2014-11-07 so both was updated a long time ago.
But I have seen many users around here on XDA who said it works good.
And sygic.
Sygic ask you to move system files to internal sd0 at first start if you placed them on sd1.
After this prompt it will do this for you. So it won't run from sdcard.
Edit: Music/multimedia files are fine to store on sd1. No problems there. I can't guarantee that stock walkman app can browse sd1. I have never used the app.
I have the app PlayerPro and DSPpack for codecs and it has worked fine for me since 2010. I've used the app on all my android devices over the years.

Hiding root status.
There is a way to hide root status from specific apps
You can install Xposed framework and install the module
RootCloak

or
Good for Enterprise Disable Root Check

I've been playing with my new ZU (love it) and am still running stock (non-root) because of airwatch.
I have found out that many apps can be run from SD even if you don't root (can be moved there - same as on my Note 3).
As far as GPS apps, it turns out that Navigon can completely run from SD, and also it's maps can be stored on SD. The trick is to not move already installed Navigon app to SD - if you do that it will only move the app itself to SD but leave the maps in internal memory. Instead I had to do the following: 1. uninstall navigon 2. make sure SD card is inserted 3. install navigon again - then when you start the app the first time it will recognize the SD card and ask you where you want the maps installed. That worked perfectly for me and was able to reclaim 3GB of internal memory.
Unfortunately Sygic which is my prefered GPS app does not seem to have this option to install data on SD (never asked me about this during installation, and I don't see anything in the settings either).
Still, this is a good result - shows that when apps are designed properly the data can reside on SD without need for root.
Next task is to find a good car driving game which will want to completely live on SD (at least it's data since I assume if good graphics the game must be huge).
