[Q] GPe: Selecting WiFi frequency band, how to? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

On the Nexus5 phone you can select the WiFi band to use, I can't find that option on this phone. (The GPe version)
How do I select to make the phone stick to the 5GHz Access Points?
I can not find that in settings>wifi>advanced.
Even in the wifi analyzer app, I can't tap between the bands to list all the APs on both frequencies.
thanks

Still no luck. Has anyone had this connect to 5Ghz either n or ac?

Wifi not connected no data

My Android Tablet or phone are having problem connecting to a hidden network.
Set up the hidden network,i see my tablet or are connect to the hidden network but i got no DATA.
My friend IOS(Ipad or Iphone) connect to the same hidden network and everything works fine,my windows laptop work fine too.
Is it a problem with Android or I'm doing something wrong.
Any help?
I don't know about Prime connecting to a hidden network, but if you're disabling your router's SSID broadcast in hopes that it'd be hidden, don't. Any scanner will be able to pick up your router signal, SSID or no. And if anybody wants to get on your wifi, they'd be using a scanner. All you're doing is inconveniencing yourself, like this particular instance.
More here,

This is my company network so I can't change anything on the SSID...

Try this,
HiddenSSID Enabler

Odd, my hidden SSID network at work is fine. Picks it up no problem. By chance do you have a browser redirect on the network?

Just to make sure, you are adding the network manually while not connected to any networks, using appropriate security correct?

I have the same problem with the wireless at my school. It must have something to do with multiple access points that overlap. It will always connect but can't pull any data. Sometimes after you wait for a while it will start working. Very strange.
Windows laptop always works fine.

Could this something in Android OS?

It could be an issue with android that has been overlooked due to the small amount of people who probably connect to a hidden network with an android device.

[Q] MediaPad reverting to 2G when set to 3G

In the mediapad you have no way to say only use 3G/HSDPA as a mode directly. However it has an option saying only use 2G.
The problem i see is that with no option to say only use a 3G network, the tab is far to happy to switch into a 2G network which is a very irritating headache.
Even if i manually go to the network and select the 3G network it switches back to a 2G network.
However this is not a network issue, since my Sony Arc phone and my Huawei 3G dongle work flawlessly in such situations. I tested to ensure it was not an network issue.
Is there anyway to ensure it only uses a 3G network?
I have the same thing, problem switching from edge/2g to 3g/h.
Get anycut from mar..google play and create a shortcut to the activity listed as testing.
Standard setting is wcdma preferred.

I download anycut Play, and created selected the Activity Shortcut called Testing.
However I don't see an option for wcdma.
The options in testing are Tablet Info | Battery Info | Usage statistics | Wifi info | MMI Test
Tablet info, there you should see preferred network.

Darn, did not noticed the option right above the button. Thanks found it. Much appreciated.
thanks I have the same problem with the latest ICS rc and I solve it with anycut

Wi-Fi connection question.

Hi, I have a question regarding receive Wi-Fi connection on my phone. I have an Experia X10 rooted with ThGo2_v13 and non-rooted SG Note, but my experia x10 is unable to detect my home Wi-Fi access point while my SG Note can. So I tried to add Wi-Fi network manually but after added, the xperia x10 still can use it. But both phone can detect some others network nearby us. Anybody know why? Thanks.

Is it an ad-hoc network? If so, then you could try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.arendmedia.wifiadhocenabler&hl=en on your X10.
Nope, it's not an ad-hoc network. Does it have anything to do with the custom Rom/kernel?

Some kernels do break wifi functionality. Are you able to connect to other networks? Also, you could try changing the channel on your router to match the one set on your device.
Wifi Channels
Some countries have different wifi channels available, the USA has channels 1-11 and european countries have 1-13 i think. Its possible your hardware is limited to channels 1-11 and your access point is on channel 13, then you wont be able to connect.
Also, some AP's have a "turbo" mode which bumps them up to a 40mhz channel (normal wifi is 20mhz) an ap running at 40mhz wont be able to connect with a client at 20mhz.
I would try locking your AP into channel 6 @ 20mhz if you have the options in your AP.

Yup i can connect to other networks on both phone, but the X10 cant connect to that specific one. Weird!! So, say if i flash some other roms/kernels, can the problem be solve this way?

setting preferred wifi connection based on ssid?

anyone knows an app which allows to set the preferred wifi network to connect to?
specifically, I want my phone to always connect to network "A" whenever it becomes available, and even if it is currently connected to other networks with a stronger signal.
any ideas?
TIA
Try out tasker on the market. It can pretty much do anything you want. I have not made it do exactly what your looking for but it probably can. Some things need root.

[Q] Hidden SSID cannot connect

Hello everyone.
At my work they set the wireless with two channels. One is open to everybody with an email verification and allowed users to connect for 2 hours a day and the other is a hidden SSID that the workers can use all the time. In my iphone I have no issues. I add the network manually and it connects. But on my Sony xperia Z1 when I go to wifi and add the hidden SSID it just said not in range while the other network is in range. So far I tried the Hidden SSID enabler app with no luck. Any suggestions? My device has kitkat 4.4.2 and is rooted.
Thanks in advance

Yes, hidden networks are tough to get working with android. My experience with this is that when the hidden network won't connect and then not even recognize it's either that the psk/psk method don't match OR the network is Wireless-N only, which many newer android phones still can't connect to, while the iPhone can. -.- (the *only* thing apple is doing right I guess)

Apple has a flaw too however.
When a network requires you to log into a browser page with a password and username, the Iphone automatically opens the browser page to have you log into the new network.
This opens up drive by attacks to Iphone users connecting to open networks which can then Jailbreak the older firmwares.
I believe this is true, but don't rely on me. I don't even own an Iphone. lol
Another thing I didn't mentioned is that I cannot access routers settings. Also a friend of mine with a galaxy s4 can connect on hidden network. Anyone has the same problem?
Can you specify what router you have? Model #?
Thanks

Thank you for the response...Its a belkin but the company who set up the network can only access to the routers settings. I'm not sure about the model but the thing is that I can connect with other devices and not with my Z1. It can find the non hidden network which works for a couple of hours and when I manually add the hidden network it says not in range. a friend of mine with his samsung galaxy s4 connected earlier and what I noticed was that when he was entering the hidden networks details it had the options cancel and connect. When I was doing the same the options was cancel and save. So he could connect and I just had the hidden network saying just out of range. That's all. I don't know if it works on earlier android versions like that but I cannot connect on the hidden network.

Huh. I looked up your phone and it's compatible with all the 802.11 specifications, Wireless-N included. Personally I've had bad experiences with Belkin routers, I trashed mine cause the usb sharing wouldn't work . I say try creating another hidden network with your own router, just to test whether it's an issue with your phone or with your router.
