[Q] Dell Venue 7 won't boot after update kitkat 4.4.2 - Dell Venue

I had booted up my new Dell Venue 7 (with Android 4.2) for the first time, and it was working pretty well. I was about to install some apps when I noticed "System update, touch to install". I did just that and it downloaded, rebooted, and started installing, with nothing seeming to be wrong. I patiently waited for it to install, and right at the end of the installation it stopped and displayed an error message- which amounted to an Android bot in a 'broken, shut down, stwaming' pose and the message "Error."
And it was frozen.
I held down the power button to turn it off and then turned it back on to see the dell logo for a split second, then a USB symbol for a split second, then it shuts off. This now happens every time I boot.
I tried using Droidboot to reset the installation. I can get that to work, but after I select Recovery it reboots, and after the Dell logo, gives me the "pic of the dead android" error message with the message "No command." This is another freeze screen, as I can't get further without rebooting.
All I want is for this thing to boot, I don't care what version of Android it runs at this point. Any assistance in getting the thing to boot would be greatly appreciated. I won tthis thing in a contest, I don't want to be the proud recipient of a brick.

Did you get this fixed?
@social-design-concepts has released a newer version of his tool, that seems to fix problems users were having with older versions.

Hi,
Well i finally did. What got me into that situation was a issue with drivers, so lesson learned.
- If you ever get into the bootloader, never select manually the "Recovery" (let the tool handle it) or atlast not if you are new to this thing.

FWIW, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681793 has a link to a rooted, working 4.4.4 factory ROM. I'd recommend everyone grab a copy since Dell hasn't made one available via support.

[Q] Serious Photon Issues

I am a new Android convert and purchased the Photon 4G last week. I successfully rooted, though I have not unlocked the bootloader. I flashed the Photon Laser 1.1 ROM, and then the Alien 1.1 Rom and theme. After noticing that I had no 3G/4G, I decided to revert to stock and avoid the Alien 1.1 for now. I went into Clockworkmod and wiped the dalvik cache, which I think was my major mistake, then in android recovery mode I wiped the cache 3 times, and did a factory restore. From this point forward I can not boot the phone successfully. Once it comes up to the tap the android to begin screen, I receive multiple error messages requesting the calander, phone, and other apps be force closed. I am unable to get into the phone at all. Additionally, if I tap the android icon, I can see the icon flex indicating my tap, but nothing happens. I've spent the last 6 hours attempting to use RSD Lite to reflash the stock image, but I receive an error each time stating "Failed flashing process. Unable to retrieve initialization values from INI file. (0x7029); phone connected." I need some direction from anyone that can help. Thank you in advance.

Hey, I just wanted to confirm that you used RSDlite to flash the Final SBF release...45.2.5? And that didn't work? I've had issues with RSDlite attempting flash and then fail on me too. In that case, my phone would turn on into the Moto-boot logo, and then get stuck. I took the battery out and put it back in and it seemed to get me back into the phone after booting. Maybe you can try to reflash the final 45.2.5 update again?? Try using the cmd terminal to reboot or push files onto the phone? Sorry I don't know too much..I'm still really new to android.
I have followed the exact steps from this page: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16328237), but every time RSD Lite fails with the error message I listed in the original post. I have pulled the battery several times, but am unable to get past the "tap the Android" screen. Tapping it leads to no change at all. I have no access to CWM anymore, and can only access recovery from Android recovery now, which I have used to reboot a few times at this point. When I reboot, I am greeted with errors that include "The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." and "The application Suggestions Poll Scheduler Service (process com.motorola..suggestions.scheduler) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." and "The application Calander Storage (process com.android.calendar has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

I know it's somewhere in this forum, but if you brick your phone and render it useless, you can try and reflash the original SBF...not the update. Give it a shot. Just let the force closes go, but see if you can connect to your computer. Best of luck!
Thanks, but I think that's what I was doing. Maybe it was the update. Can anyone point me to the original sbf? Thanks again for the replies.

thats the link, u need to unzip and then mount it on RSDlite
Thank you so much. I will download now and run it. Let you know if it finally works. Thank you for the link and help.
So nothing under the sun worked at all. I ended up having to take the phone back to the retailer and received a new one. I am happy now because after two days I have a functioning phone. I still believe that my error was clearing the dalvik cache before the factory reset, but I wouldn't have done that had the Alien ROM, which I mostly liked, hadn't killed my non-wifi data reception, as in I had none. Thank you the those of you who took time out to read and post a reply to help me. I am very grateful.
Help
Hey guys:
Yesterday I made mega mistake, I've flashed CM7 but... I didn't notice that I had to unlock the bootloader, obviously didn't work , but now, the phone is stuck on "unable to boot 2 entering RSD mode" with the Moto logo, so I tough, I will flash it again with the official Sprint update and fix the whole thing, but RSD gets to 100% restarts the phone and then phone shows just garbage! just like a blurry image, can't describe correctly but doesn't go any further. I've removed the battery start the phone again and then I get the same message "unable to boot 2 entering RSD mode". I'm on a loop right now, any advise will very appreciated, thanks'
Try flashing the 154_5 sbf...when in rsd mode...ive always had luck, with it as a starting point.

I will certainly give it a shot. I don't remember right now which file is the one that i got, I'm at work, but took me about 2 days in a row to download the file on my 128 kbps connection... third world connection.. I know.
Something that I would like to know is, when I turn the phone on takes directly to the error, if I press power + volume up then takes me to fast boot and stays there and if I do power + volume down gives a messages for about 1 second goes away and the phone goes like dead... I have to remove the battery to get it going again. Is there anything else that I need to know?.
thanks'

you need to get into rsd mode by powering up + volume up but use rsd verion 5.5 when connecting to the computer. Then after run the sbf and wait till it asks to manually power up the phone..pull battery and ur golden.
Make sure youre fully charged and have allege drivers installed properly.

You're the man!!!, I've dowloaded the file you told me and RSD 5.5 and I'm back in bussiness. I just unlocked the bootloader... ready to try CM7, yay!.

[Q] trying to revert exhibit II to stock

hello xda. been browsing for a couple weeks, but finally registered today.
I have run into a problem I would like to try and solve without having to go through my insurance or carrier. my phone bricked itself after only 16 days, with 0 modifications on it. it was factory stock still. let me describe what happened, and what I did:
1st problem: I was using my online banking app (reputable bank), when the app minimized to the main screen; however, nothing OS related loaded. the phone just froze. only the wallpaper was visible. I tried powering it down, but it wasn't responding, so I pulled the battery, and put it back in. I powered on the phone, it loaded the SAMSUNG screen, then went to the Exhibit II 4G page, but then it stopped. it failed to load past the Exhibit II splash screen. no matter what I did, it stayed there. I googled for hours, trying various things, until I finally found this site with a stock rom setup.
2nd problem: I followed jocala's guide for flashing it, using Odin 4.43, and after it finished flashing, I got a "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again." so now I have been googling this issue, and I cannot seem to find anything on how to fix it. I don't understand how my phone can just brick itself while using a banking app that i'd been using since I got the phone.
any help would be appreciated
also, if this isn't the forum for it, feel free to move it. this just looked the most appropriate seeing as there wasn't a board for the phone specifically.

Howdy, DBNP,
The Exhibit II is pretty much unbrickable...you won't need to resort to esoterica like jtag
The guide in the Exhibit II Wiki usually works out well. I'd try booting into stock recovery, doing a data wipe, then install stock with Odin. The Wiki has the links to the files you need. BTW, I didn't write the Odin portion @ the wiki; I just hosted required files when the links went stale.
Easy way to start recovery
* Pull the battery from your phone.
* Connect phone to your pc via usb.
* Press & hold Volume-up
* Insert battery
Once you're back up and running first thing you should do is install Clockworkmod. HTH, & good luck.
I cannot get my phone to get into recovery mode, though. if I press volume+up, the phone simply displays the firmware error message. thus, I cannot do a data wipe.

This has never failed for me. IDK, Perhaps your earlier Odin try wiped the recover partition. Can you get into Download mode? (hold Power-on Vol-Down)
I can enter download mode, but I cannot enter recovery mode. volume down gets me into download, while up gets me the error message. I cannot get to that menu anymore.

Are you saying that you get an error when you press Vol-Up at the initial "Warning!" "A custom OS can cause..." screen, the initial download mode screen?
when I press and hold the vol-up sequence, it takes me to the initial error of "firmware upgrade has encountered an issue..."
when I press and hold the vol-up sequence, it takes me to the menu where it says custom OS etc., press up to continue, down to cancel (restart phone).

OK, that's good. That tells us that your exhibit2's /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 partition is undamaged. AFAIK Odin when properly used, can flash a new rom to your phone. Please try again, following the instructions in the wiki, reading carefully, downloading any files that you need, if you don't have them. Please walk through the wiki procedure to reflash stock from Odin, this procedure has worked for many, many people. Keep careful notes, you may be an edge case for some reason.
I'm posting links to this thread in the discussion threads that we use, since we're not allowed a forum. These threads get the most attention.

yeah, I have tried doing that myself, as well as my friend who is rather skilled with android devices. he tried that all himself today, as well as attempting add. nothing worked.

I think you and your friend did it wrong. You should try again, following the wiki carefully.
we re-did it this morning step-by-step with no new results. we tried three times.
odin does its thing successfully, then when it goes to reboot, instead of going into recovery mod, it just goes to the firmware upgrade issue message.

Sorry to hear it. If Odin won't fix your phone and you've only had it a few weeks, I'd return it. I've linked your thread to our discussion threads, perhaps someone else has an idea.
that's the issue. because I have tried to flash it via odin, they're saying they won't take it because of the firmware upgrade error that keeps coming up. :/
because they won't take it, and the normal flashing to stock method isn't working, what do you think I should do next?

I don't know who "they" are, but the chances of anyone at a T-Mob store or a Walmart knowing you touched your phone with Odin or even what Odin is are practically nil. "It's three weeks old, I turned it on and it doesn't work. Gimmie my replacement."
Or seek out a repair service to reflash your phone.
all right, i'll take it back and get a different rep. thanks for your help, though

[Q] I believe I am bricked, can anybody help? (p769)

Before the incident, I had root, no unlocked bootloader, stock JB, v20h.
What had happened was I was trying the Font Installer app in th Play Store because of the added customization that would have been nice.
I found a cool font, and I backed up my current fonts and then pressed install. SuperSU asked for permissions like normal and then my phone restarted.
Then it was so that my phone was stuck at the T-Mobile boot animation after the LG Logo. For about 15 minutes. This is where I believed something was starting to go very wrong. After contemplating for a few extra minutes, I decided to just take out the battery and restart. Same outcome. I thought of all the things that were on the phone thus far because I had just gotten it recently, and decided that it wouldn't hurt me to just do a hard reset by pressing home + vol down + power. Everything went smoothly. Except for the fact that even after I did that, it was leaving me at the T-Mobile screen.
I decided to look on the forums for development and tried to do the unbrick method, to no avail after about 3 hours now. I used the LG User Support Tool and since I hadn't updated to V20f, I decided to do that to see if it would solve my problem. It still didn't, and I'll be honest, I'm a little upset just typing this right now.
I also tried the Upgrade Recovery option and it warmed my heart to see that the process was actually starting. But right at the screen where it says that it is supposed to be downloading something, it freezes up and nothing happens no matter how long I wait. I saw somewhere that it should be a glowing red bar, but I do not see that anywhere, it is just frozen, saying Time Elapsed: 00:12. And before anyone asks, yes, I ran absolutely everything as an administrator.
Is there any possible way to bring this phone back? Any help would be immensely appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

did you hard reset? then turn off your phone disconnect the battery, connect to the pc holding the volume up button? then try the Update Recovery?
i would just go through that process over and over until it works, theres not really a way to brick this phone i've heard...

Thank you for your reply! I have tried hard resetting multiple times, but I had removed some bloatware apps (I will quarantine them next time instead because I don't wanna go through this ever again) and I have tried the kdz method to only be stuck at 15% every time when I followed instructions to the pixel. I have tried to do it on windows 7 and windows 8. I have also tried the fastboot method by lelus, and that manages to "work" but I am still stuck at the tmobile boot screen afterwards. I have gotten the hang of the process of getting into the fastboot, but what do I do from there? I chose to flash ics xloader and uboot, but the process goes by so fast, I'm not even sure it is doing anything. The LG Tool has really gotten me nowhere, it just gives me a lovely error and then cannot continue the upgrade recovery process.
It said somewhere that after I flash through the fastboot I then have to try the kdz method, so I am going to do that now and see if it works. I don't know if there would be a difference between flashing a jb kdz or an ics kdz, but I will just do ics to be on the safe side.
I am quite happy to say that flashing the ics kdz was successful, and my phone is now up and running.

im terrible with fastboot, i used the unlock the bootloader for noobs with an offline flash.
heres what i did to get out of bootloops....
alright, this is all from memory but the offline flash didnt work as well for me when stuck in weird bootloops.
Step one-going back to online flash---->
A---
the easiest way i found was to go to C:/windows/system32/drivers/ect/hosts
right click>open with notepad
there should be two lines at the bottom
"127.0.0.1 csmg.lgmobile.com
127.0.0.1 csmgdl.lgmobile.com"
i would cut them out and paste them in a text doc in the same folder for reference later...
but either way you should remove them from the hosts file and save
B----
Make sure your small server is closed! once you minimize it it should go down to your status bar (shttps)
Step two-LGMS---->
make sure you have LG mobile support installed or install it.
open lg mobile support
install needed drivers for your phone
power your phone off/remove the battery
put battery back in
connect it to your computer holding down the volume up button
S/W UPDATE mode should pop up, if it doesn't preform and hardreset and try again til it works (it will)
then in the top right corner there should be a button or two click them both until you see
"restore update" or Update restore or something to that effect
select that
and let it ride man
i got my phone ****ed many times and just had to keep redoing this until it worked. if your bootloader is truely unlocked you can probably go through all that again and get CM10 working, i did but im still working through kinks.....
GOOD LUCK feel free to ask any more Q's about this process if you run into any problems

[Q] Samsung galaxy Tab 2 7.0 SCH-I705 HELP

A few months ago I came here and used the detailed instructions to unlock boot-loader and root my tablet. Everything worked awesome. easy to do and easy to follow instructions. Thank you
Now, Verizon has released some kind of update for my tab. I will be in the middle of doing something and the window will pop up asking if I want to install or defer. when I install it does the download, shuts down, comes back on with the lil android guy. the blue progress bar gets halfway done and all a sudden there is a red triangle thing above the open part of the android dud. Its shuts off, reboots and says it failed.
Well, not a big deal as far as i can see, but the window prompting me to update comes to the front all the time. Tried to force close it, still comes back up. I was thinking about downloading something that will freeze the app. but don't want to mess anything else up.
Sense this problem started i have unrooted my tablet. Done countless factory resets. and nothing works. So could this problem be because its a custom boot loader? How do I fix this problem?

Please Help, secure booting error lg optimus f3 LG MS659

I keep getting a message on the LG startup screen, that says,
"secure booting error
cause: boot certification verify"
My phone was rooted using king root almost 6 months ago, and I had no problems with it. Until around a month ago, it started getting real slow and apps would randomly stop. So I decided to format the phone. There weren't many problems after that. but after a while it started getting slow again, but slower than the first time. One day almost every app closed and "LG Home" would close, it would give me some kind of error. I turned it off and tried turning it back on, but that's when I got that error. At first i thought my phone was bricked, i still sort of do, so I tried several methods. I can only turn the phone on in download mode, and my computer recognizes it as an android device.
At first I had some problems because i couldn't find my right .KDZ file, I used KDZ Update and I tried using LGFlash tool, but i can't find any of the files (.bin . dll) I need. I've also tried using the 2014 version of the LGFlash and used the LG Mobile Support tool, and nothing! They all take around 4 to 5 hours to finish!!! It never says there's an error or anything, none of them do! They always finish successfully, but the same thing keeps happening. Every time the phone reboots, it gets stuck on the LG logo and i get the secure booting Error!! What else can i try? Any suggestions? Am i missing something? All drivers are installed correctly and I've tried on windows 7, 8 and 10! Is there anybody who can help me? What do you think the problem could be? What causes the "secure booting Error!"??
