Finally upgraded to a larger sd card.... need help or insight on this issue though. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

I just upgraded to a SanDisk 32gb from my old 8gb and now i am missing a lot of my apps. They show in the app drawer, but when i try to open them i get the error that the app is not installed.
Here is what i did, hoping i could save everything.
1. I removed my 8gb card and copied everything to my pc.
2. Then i inserted the new card and copied all the old files to it.
3. I inserted the new sd card into my s5 with the power off on the device.
4. Booted the phone, and the apps show in the drawer, but upon opening the apps i get the message that the app is not installed.
Any help?
Ps> sorry guys that i haven't been around much this month. I had to fire 4 employees of mine over a two week span and pick up their work.
I will try to be more active, for those that missed me. Hehe

You are making an erroneous assumption that a file by file copy would save you from having to reinstall apps. An sector by sector image would have been a better approach. One of the descrepancies between the old card and new is apparently leading the OS to conclude that the installed app files are no longer available.
It might be tied to a volume serial number or erroneous path, etc. But my guess would be that you missed copying a hidden system directory. In any event, try again or reinstall the apps.
.

Thanks for the response @fffft , i already formatted the old sd card and gave it to a buddy that has an s4 and had memory issues, with his kids installing every game they can find. Lol. I see a hidden folder that contains about 1.86 gb of data that looks like the files that i am missing, it seems that it was just copied to a different place on the new sd card, im trying to place it correctly, but if it doesn't work then i will just reinstall.
Thanks again.

Working SD CM7 now what?

Well apparently I was sent to the wrong forum (NOOK COLOR) I thought the color and tab's used the same stuff. Apparently not. I have CM7 working on a 32GB SD card and will have one on a 16GB SD card in a few minutes for my fiancee's NT. I have all my apps that are linked to my Google account installed on my NT now what?
I have noticed the remaining SD card space is small. Surely I didn't use up all 32GB already. I assume the windows writing software made a small partition on the SD card for CM7 so how do I gain that space back or make the NT use the extra space for installations of apps etc?
Do apps have to come just from the app store or is this considered a rooted OS now where I can put apps on the SD card from anywhere and is there a special way to do this?
Just popped the 16GB SD card in my fiancee's nook and powered it on for the first time. I saw the Team-B screen then it went black. Apparently it rebooted and loaded up the stock nook OS. I suppose a re-write is in order on the SD card?
The SD ROM that you made is already rooted. It can do...root things.
As for the rest of your storage space on the microSD card, you'll have to do a little repartitioning. Looks like you're using Windows, so I recommend the freeware called MiniTool Partition Wizard. The user interface is every simple to understand.
All you want to do is resize the last partition on your SD card to consume all of the unallocated space that was left over. Then you will have access to your entire SD card space.
EDIT: Just saw your second post. Turn the NT off completely and plug it into the wall charger. Let it power on and see if it boots all the way through to CM7. If not try rewriting the ROM to the card. Or you may need to use a different SD card. I know I had problems with a 16GB PNY Class 10 card.
That is correct. I'm on windows 7
This is normal correct?

I drug the bar all the way to the right on the last block on the SD card. Plopped it back in my nook and its booting to Nook stock.
Now for the above edit Its on a 16GB PNY C4 hmmmm.......
Would it have anything to do with not being fully charged yet being plugged into the wall though?
So now both are fubared for the second only booting to nook stock. LOL This was going so well about an hour ago and here I'm worried about what bells and whistles can be done and things can be added and how to add them. Sheesh I can't even keep CM7 working.
Both don't even try to boot from SD anymore? You might have to try and remake the ROM and switch to a different card.
Got another question. Just full of them I suppose.
Is there a way to have a boot menu on start up vs pulling out the SD card to get to the stock NT OS?
I would say CM7 also but it seems its not supported yet for SD booting.
Easiest way to get your boot menu would be to flash fattire's Cyanoboot. It's a second bootloader that allows you to choose from where you would like to boot at each power up.
Yea pulled the sd out of my fiancee's and it wont even boot into nook os wtf.
Plugged in or not.
Mine is booting fine into either again kinda weird.
Did the N/Power 20 seconds thing and got her NT powered back up without the SD card in. So it went into Vanilla nook with video and all since it is a new unit. Running the img file over the SD card again to see if it was just a hiccup and not an issue with the PNY SD.
I'm going to chock it up for the nook doesn't like class 4 pny 16gb cards since I re-wrote the sd card and I get the same problem.
It boots showing the N then flashed to the team-b loading screen then goes black for a while then shows the N and then loads nook stock.
So I'll go over to Frys and pick up another Patriot 32GB Class 4 card and give that a whirl. (It's what is running in mine just fine.)
That might be all it needs. Lots of people have success with SanDisk Class 4 SD cards, too.

Since the NT is technically rooted via the SD card on mine how do I go about putting apps on it? Is there a certain place they need to go etc?
Not talking about apps from the Play Store either.
Meaning files like *.apk
So this is exactly how I run my nook tablet, and thankfully, I've had only one issue with SD cards and formating it with https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/ helped.
As for the rest, depending on the image that you used, it may or may not have Google Play Store installed, if it is, great, if not, you need to get it onto the card.
If it's already installed (and it most likely should be) then you just go into the Google Play store and download whatever you want.
You just need to be registered with a Google Account on the device.
Any more specific questions, just let me know, as I said I run the same thing for my nook, so I'm fairly familiar with it.

If you're talking about sideloading apps, just put the .apk files on your SD card and open them with a file manager/explorer, then it will prompt you to install the app.
Your NT should mount the 1st (boot) partition of the SD card, unless you go into the vold.fstab and tell it otherwise.

Sounds easy enough lol. I'll mess around with that after I watch the evening tv shows and my fiancee lays down. I still need to search for the dual boot thing you told me about earlier so I can choose where to boot to instead of pulling out the sd card. (What a terrible design where they put it. They could have just put a slot in the bottom or something instead of hiding it in the cut out area so you can't maneuver it around.)
Can the APK files be deleted off the SD card once they are installed?
Ok so made a folder and put all apk files in it on the SD card
I open the file manager on android and that folder can't be found???
I just tried to put the apk files on the root of the SD card now its just loading the stock nook OS.
So obviously putting the apk's in the root isn't a good idea.

what file manager are you using? you should be using something like es file explorer or root explorer. the standard file manager that comes with android is useless when it comes to sideloading apk's

[Q] Files randomly gets deleted. (SGP 5.0)

Hello everyone! This is my first post in this forum but i've been using this forum for months now..
Anyone knows why my files are getting deleted randomly and placed in LOST.DIR? Files are still in their locations but their size is 0.0kb.
They somehow go to LOST.DIR and become unreadable. Is it a faulty Micro SD card or my Player 5?
My SGP 5.0 is using:
PARANOID ANDROID v2.57.4- March 07 Update
Mercurius v5 Kernel
This problem also happened on Stock GB ROM, anyone know what is happening? any help is much appreciated.

Google told me in 5 seconds time to,read this or many other similar threads.
http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-3/447049-lost-dir-what.html
This is not any related to our very good device, it is android behavior. (good anyway)
Thanks!
But Google didn't help. I know what LOST.DIR is for.
This doesn't happen only on startup, sometimes it's hours or days before files get deleted.
I also do the whole safety remove thing on my PC and SGP 5, and let it finish checking the mem card.
There's also nothing wrong with the files, my iPad and blackberry have the same files in them but don't get deleted.
I know the SGP 5 is a good device, i have one...
If it's android behavior, why is it wiping half my memory card's worth of files for no reason?

Try backing up your files and format
Sent from my YP-G70 using xda app-developers app
Already did that several times now but it still happens.
I've formatted my SD card, restored it to default, de-fragmented it, full factory reset my SGP 5. It still happens.
Maybe it is a faulty SD Card?
Also, this happened twice already, after copying files to my SD Card from my PC, safety removed it, my SGP said "broken sd card, please reformat", even my pc can't read the card...
It must be my sd card that's causing the problem and hopefully not my Player, what do you guys think?

Fine,
You may Check for some days with another ext Sd card to discriminate this case.
Do you have backup application running or some auto cleaning apk like "forever gone" starting at certain times?

No cleaning apps... I'll try with a different SD card... Thanks for the help.
It happens to me as well. I assume it has something to do with the Galaxy Player (or the SD Card). If it doesn't happen, the SD card randomly gets damaged.
so i bought a new SD card, a Kingston Class 10 32gb, using it for more than a week now and so far no file deletion. I think it's because i was using a cheap SD card, a TDK 32gb Class 2... if the problem happens again, it must be Android's check disk that's causing it.

[Q] Apps Moved to SD Disappear fix?

I have a weird and it seems like a common problem too, i have found some threads about it but either they are a little different from mine or they dont have a real solution for it.
So yesterday i decided to download a bunch of games, i never used enough applications to need to move them to my sd, but since i downloaded a lot of them some started to get installed to the sd and i manually moved some of them too to the sd card. But while i was still downloading more apps, some of them started to show the android icon, and when i tried to run them they crashed. The weird part is that it was just some of them.
After that i tried rebooting my phone hoping that would help the phone to reload and see the apps, but that just made it worst since those, and some others went totally missing from the drawer. Is not because the launcher loads before the sd card is read because i already checked that.
So i went to settings>applications and discovered that all those applications are listed there but listed with their other name (dont know how to call it, but is like "com.developer.app" ). All of the missing apps are like that and i cant run them.
- I have formatted the sd using gparted, same behavior
- I have formatted the sd and the internal (sd?) with the phone
- I have done a factory reset with no luck
- I have runned fsck in both internal and external sd's
- The files of the applications are in the .android_secure folder in the external sd card "app.asec"
- The sd card is working (files music, everything else is working)
- I dont know what else to do, I want to be able to use my sd card to install apps
Thanks for your help
Simple Answer
Just Install Nd Run The Apk First Nd Play now simply move To SD
It Will Work.
Same Problem In Galaxy Y .
SolveD
Press Thank If I Helped
I dont fully understand you, but i think you are telling me to install, then run the app and then move it to the sd card, i did that to almost all of them (i was trying the games ) but that didnt make any difference. Thank you anyway!
looks like it was a faulty micro sd card switched to another one and problem solved

[Q] SD card is full (but, its not)

Hi,
another forum recommended I register and ask my question here. I am not a techie. I don't know what I'm doing. This is probably a basic question, but with all the googling I've done, I can't find the answer!
Here goes, and please be easy on me:laugh:
My GS3 was running really slow, running down the battery, just in general not running as well as I remembered from a year before buying it. I decided to back it up, reset it and start from scratch. The phone has run AWESOME! One problem though; when it updated, it installed 4.3. Ever since, I can't do anything with my SD card. I get an error that the SD card is full, and if I look in the settings, it shows zero space on the SD card. If I plug it into my mac, it shows like 12gb of space.
I used to use Android File Transfer and that doesn't work anymore. I recently tried Airdroid, which works great for the internal storage, but tells me that my SD card is full.
Help!
PS I tried to post a link to a screenshot of what storage on my phone looks like, but since I'm a noob, I'm not allowed
When you upgrade to android 4.3 it will change your storage partition from sdcard0 to emulated/0 ... simply it will change its partition so all your old files will not be visible there but they are still in your memory... I suggest you find your old files and move them to new directory... There are many threads on how to find your old files.. Search

Apps2sd "sd fix" messed up phone. Cant View files but can see under TWRP.

Edit -- Nvm. I just went in and did a factory reset. Pretty sad since I hadnt backed up in about 2 weeks. My loss. My stupiditiy. Learn form our mistakes.
After the factory reset, I can view my SD card again which is pretty nice, so not a total loss.
-------------------------
Alright. A little about my phone. Its a Galaxy s5 with an 8gb micro sd card. The phone is rooted.
Last night I installed Apps2sd. When I first opened the app it mentioned that my SD card was not setup and I would need to run some "sd fix". I accepted, the phone rebooted and then when it came back up, its as if my SD card was blank. Not only blank, but after connecting phone to the PC, both my phone and card show but are empty. The SD card displays as -1376256 bytes free of -1376256 bytes. The phone shows 127mb free of 128mb.
I also made the mistake of uninstalled apps2sd after my phone booted up and I noticed the issue. Wasnt very smart of me as I can not seem to install it or anything back. Most apps including google play just crash when trying to load. When vieiwng files under My Files, basically everything is empty. If I try using FX file manager then most things say I dont have access.
Now when I first turn on phone and I boot into safestrap TWRP, I can go through and view files and I See all my stuff on my SD card and phone. I can even copy files from my SD card and place them in other directories (tried to copy the apps2sd apk onto phone to reinstall) but just cant ever see any of it when the phone is booted.
Also under TWRP, If I go to backup or anything for example, It lists Micro SD as 2132mb and Internal Storage as 3436mb. So im guessing apps2sd created a partition of some sort?
What have I done? What did my stupid ass do and is there any way to fix it?
tl;dr: Installed apps2sd, clicked things I shouldnt click. Cant view any files on phone or when connected to USB but can see everything under TWRP.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!
