[Q] SGSIII reboots just after start. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I have a SGSIII which doesn't work properly. Its previous owner told me that the phone had started work slowly so the owner decided to restore factory settings. After that operation he was not able to use SGS. It keeped restarting. He gave up and now this telephone belongs to me. When I try to run this phone telephone restarted as soon as the system started. I decided to flash SGS with stock firmware. I found the one which contained only one file (PDA). Unfortunately it didn't help me. Then, I installed CWM and CM11. But the problem still wasn't solved. Finally I decided to find four-file stock rom (Bootloader, PDA, PHONE, CSC), of course I still have the same problem. I've been looking for solution in the Internet and I'm afraid that could be hardware problem, what is more, it seems to be common. Do you, guys, have any ideas what can I do to fix this issue? Or can you confirm that is the hardware problem? Thanks in advance.

Dont know much but as long as the phone boots i dont think it should be a hardware problem but still it can be. Did you try takimg it to service?

Well I haven't tried taking it to service, because I am not sure if it is worth to repair this. Replacing the motherboard will be expensive so the better way will be buying another phone.

It could be a stuck power button... that can cause bootlooping type behavior. If the phone turns itself on when you put the battery in, but then reboots before it gets done booting it's likely the power button.

I don't think so the power button is guilty, becaue the telephone doesn't turn itself and it doesn't reboot until Android starts.

Stock Galaxy S II (No root) stuck in flight mode

I got my Galaxy S II about 3 days ago and love it. Apart from some annoyances (I'm looking at you Touchwiz) no problems... installed Launcherpro and here we go
Today I woke up and bam. Flight mode.
Factory reset
Wipe USB storage and SD card
Wipe cache from recovery (stock recovery)
No change.
So now I have a very fancy Samsung Galaxy II Player. I called tech support and they asked me to try another sim (which I had done) then told me to clear the cache (which I had done) blah blah... then they ended up telling me to send it back to Amazon as faulty.
Great, just great.
Anyone else had this problem?
Nope, haven't had this.

I'm wondering... if I flashed an update.zip from stock recovery if the issue might go away... it's clearly software.
Just need to find an update.zip file....
Also something quirky is happening with regards to lock screens. Had unlock pattern enabled and then switched off however it still remains on but only needs a press on the screen to unlock.
Personally wouldn't try flashing if it's being funky. Last thing you want is to get stuck with non standard firmware if you still need to return it.

I want to flash and official update...
p.s.
This sounds similar except I can't turn Aeroplane mode on or off.

I have the same problem with the phone that I bought today (a problem I noticed after 15 minutes of purchase). Tomorrow I bring it to a Samsung service center to confirm it as DOA so I can do the replacement for the operator ... I am disappointed that I was wasting my time on these things ...
p.s after I try code *2767*3855# a have no problems for last hour...
today i have problems again and I replace my galaxy...I hav new one without any problems...
I have a somewhat similar problem.
My Galaxy S II randomly goes into flight mode every now and then. It's not a permanent thing like what you guys experience, but it is an annoyance.
Couple that with the "wifi sharing" bug and I think we can say that Samsung has some faulty radio firmware in the Galaxy S II.
flash the generic xeu of ke7 from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
this was tried but didn't work. Even a new radio package was flashed . Didn't help.
SGS2 running India distribution 2.3.3, unlocked. Not rooted. Stuck in flight mode, becacuse IMEI # cannot be read. Help !
could it be efs partition corruption?
It probably is /efs corruption. How do I recover it ?
Posting on behalf of my brother..
He to has this problem. Nothing we do fix's this resetting to factory defaults changing sim card formatting memory card..
Since it's done this.. it uses the battery from a full charge to near empty within ~5 hours
Bought 29th Aug 2011
They wont honor the warranty even though it broke down at only 2 months old.

Have you gone through Samsung directly? (Register on their website and request a repair).
I had this problem just now. Couldn't get it out of flight mode. Saying no sim etc...
The way I fixed it was to remove the sim and battery, replace them, turn the phone back on, the hold the power button to bring up the power options and press turn off flight mode. It now works again.
Not good that after I googled this problem it seems to be quite common.

I have this issue too, bloody annoying. I did a kernal update and I hope that fixes it. But will give your method ago.
My post is here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21557309#post21557309
I had an interesting problem. My phone sometime stuck on flight mode. I had to restart device 4-5 times to disable flight mode(flight mode menu becomes transparent or untouchable). After a while button becomes enable and phone starts normally. But it's annoying problem.
Now I'm using Lite'ning Rom v1.1 XXLPH. Even in stock LPH,LPB, KK5 2.3.6.... every firmware I had same problems occasionally.
What's the problem? There is nothing wrong with IMEI (but I can't see IMEI in flight mode).
go in it recovery and clear data and then go to fix permissions

So is there a simple solution for this anoying problem, or it cames back every time ?
With Android 4.0 or 4.1 is the same?
I need to know as I am thinking of buying one that as this problem, at a good price.
Should i buy it?
thanks
Have you tried to reflash with kies?
I believe there is a recover option there? Atleast that wont get your waranty voided.
Never actually tried it since i only use heimdall & odin but might be worth a try!

kalpa108: galaxy gt i9003 stuck in flight mode, not reading SIM...and not recognised by recent version of KIES. Factory Reset does not fix this, device is not rooted, yet, but there's always a 1st time! Can this be done w/o any connection? Trying to download old KIES versions too.
Any layman ideas?
Yep. You're in the wrong forum, this in for I9100/variants.

[Q] Ace won't power on, screen flashes on and off

I was following the phone unlocking guide in a sub-forum got my unlock code, powered off, inserted a different sim, powered on. I didn't get a request for a code; phone started up fine except no network access. I got a message a short while after something like android.phone stopped working.
Turned the phone off, put original sim back in and turned the phone on. All the phone will do is flicker the backlight every couple of seconds. 3-button recovery will take me to "Downloading..." and sit there. Flashing to Gingerbread using Odin will get to the RESET and phone will power off and phone will sit there screen flashing as before.
Anything I can do to resolve this?

Hey!
Firstly: For me worked(not in unlock, but in some other cases, where other soft fails) the STOCK ..XXKC1. Try to flash it. Dose you put you phone in to "Download" mode for Odin?
Where you get that UNLOCK? From here?
These are the questions, what I want answers. Maybe after that I can say surely.
TIA!

I was following the guide [TUTORIAL]How to Network Unlock Samsung Galaxy Ace Via ADB. Phone didn't ask for unlock code when I put a Vodafone sim in my o2-locked Ace. Shortly after putting the Vodafone sim in it said something like Android.phone force closed.
I can flash any firmware but so far the phone will not boot. The screen will just flash after flashing firmware and I can put it in Downloading recovery but nothing else happens so far.
Could it be something to do with the phone storage being screwed up? I followed the tutorial word for word and got my code and everything.

I,m The owner of the Unlocking post and i feel like i need to help, Last night i was "Playing" ClockWork Recovery and i touched the "Fix Permissions" option, the phone got stucked and i waited like 10 minutes and nothing happend so i long pressed the power button for a hard reset and when the phone turned on it made the same thing that your did, it sended me a message like yours and the phone started acting weird, and throw me a lot of other error messages so i rebooted the phone and the same, so i entered the recovery again and made a wipe/data and calvik cache, turned the phone back on and problem solved, if it does not work try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071970 and you can install a custom rom wich is better than stock, i suggest FirstUA-ROM, i hope this was helpfull and im sorry that this happens to your phone.

Hi mate. Thanks for dropping in. I cannot enter recovery; the phone just does what happens in the OP - it just flashes. I can only enter 3-button recovery. So far I've tried 5 different firmware 2 Froyo (inc stock) and 3 different Gingerbreads found droidangel.blogspot.com/2011/05/samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830-original-stock.html. Will try a custom firmware but otherwise will try and take the phone back to o2 tomorrow.

Hey!
Dont take it back to SERVICE, before you not get flashed back to STOCK firmware or they can MAYBE, see that you not in stock firmware. Just saying it, that you DONT get in to trouble, with warranty.

Yeah too it into o2 this morning. Luckily the dipshits that work there don't know anything. He just plugged it into his laptop and ran Kies. It's being sent off though. Hopefully will be sorted in warranty for free
Hello,
To solve this problem, did you activate the warranty?
I have the same problem, none of the existing ROM work, or find another solution?
I appreciate the help,

Yeah; I sent it back for warranty. They replaced the main PCB.

[Q] Bricked S5830, please help me

Hi all,
I have looked for a similar post, I found out that many people experienced something like that trying unlocking their phones, but I haven't found out any solution.
Here is my situation:
I have tried to unlock my s5830 (orange spain carrier), I have used a method which it seems to be dangerous for the phone, but of course I have found out it was dangerous after I have already tried it
Anyway after I discovered the unlock number contained in the perso.txt file in the efs folder, my phone restarted without service once and after that it went in a bootloop mode, it goes on a download mode, but there is no way to get back recovery mode or a normal boot.
I flashed the s5830 several times with many firmware, but no one worked, and the phone is still stuck in an infinite loop, in which I am not even able to see the samsung logo coming out at the very beginning.
I know many phones got bricked in this way, I wanted to know if anybody has been able to recover the phone or if anybody know any possible solution.
And if not, do you know if the warranty is covering this problem? I just got the phone a couple months ago; i have unlocked other devices before, but this is the first time I have experienced a problem so I am quite new about warranty as well. Please HELP ME
Merry Christmas guys!!!
Thanks in advance

Hehehe, bootloop is horrible, you just have to get in download mode & flash with 2.3.4 firmware with Odin, just that steps and you save your SGA.

If you can go to recovery mode than you can just wipe the data and cache. This saved me many times. Otherwise on what ever OS you may be , just create new user name after removing samsung android drivers. Login from new user name and than re install drivers again and now flash your phone from firmware which was installed on your phone before you bricked it. This helped me a few times.

@dr_vishal
Thank you first of all, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the android device driver, but it doesn't seems to be the problem, Odin ends with a "PASS" at the end, I guess there still is comunication in the between the two devices...
Hopefully it will be a Merry Christmas =)
It's not impossible. I'm relatively new here but I have noticed quite a few "bricked" threads already. Most of them (if not all) have been able to fix their device. I haven't seen a single person permanently brick their device, so I would guess that your chances of fixing it are really high. Just be patient and keep describing your situation and more experienced help will certainly arrive. I'd really like to help out but I have no idea how to fix it as I have not experienced bricking my phone yet.
Anyway, if the method for unlocking I suggested works for you kindly press the Thanks Button. Merry Christmas!

I messed up with the efs, and I guess that's all, the phone is gone....now it needs a JTAG or whatever is its name....
maybe to get the warranty still valid I should broke totally the phone over charging it....??

just a thought
a lot of people have talked about reflashing it and all but have you managed to get into the recovery mode at all once you have reinstalled the rom with odin? if you can get to that you just need to hit factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik and normaly after that it will work fine... so far ive been stuck in soft brink 3 times and each time doing the wipes from the recovery mode has worked...

I've tried to use the oneclick, but it seems it doesn't recognize the phone, since, i guess, it's made for a galaxy s.
The others are not my case, since I am able to get download mode, and all these are made to can get it back.
Anyway I found out a post in which the people were talking about the s5500, which apparentely is similiar to my device, and the owners of that model experienced a similar problem doing the same process....anyway in that post the people needed to use a Jtag, which is the only way to get it back....so I though it could be the same solution for my problem...but I don't know anybody with Jtag, so the only way is contacting the service center.
thanks anyway, when I will be back at home after Christmas I will try to find the ticket and I will probably try to get it back in warranty, since is preatty new...
@torchwolfery
I am not able to reach recovery mode, there is no way to get it back, even flashing the phone with different firmwares, all I got is download mode, and apparently that is completely pointless...since the only change in the phone behavior is that if i install a certain firmwares it doesn't even have the back-light working when it is stuck in bootloop.
Warranty is your only hope (as it was mine once and it worked).
I didn't think it was possible to brick these phones. There I have tried so much to try and brick it but I have not been able to as it still always goes into 'download' mode. The only advice I can give you is double check that you are using the correct version of Odin which is v4.38 and that you use cooper v1.0 as your OPS. If dont mind me asking, but exactly what did you do or do you remember the steps you took to brick it? What buttons are you using for 'recovery' mode.
Also please clarify if Odin is going in a loop or does the phone come on and then keeps rebooting? If it is the phone that keeps rebooting, then wiping cache and data partition should do the trick. This can be done by going into recovery mode (which I am aware you cannot get into) or if you can manage to get into the dialler quick enough before the reboot, by dialling *7267*3855# and that should format the relevant partitions (data and cahce) and bring it back to factory settings. Without further info, I cannot really tell exactly what the situation is.
The fact that you are getting 'download' mode, I dont think that it is bricked because it will still allow you to write the relevant directory/files to the relevant blocks. Either way, would be interested to know.

Hey guys,
I have flashed last leaked XXLPB, my phone worked for two days like a charm, today I've rooted it with CF root but after that the power button won't work properly anymore, when I press to lock the screen, It doesn't lock the screen and put the phone to sleep nor it wake it up. It just turn off/on the screen. Also holding it down doesn't even give me an option menu (Power off, Airplane mode....), it shuts down immediatly.
Well I tried to wipe data/factory reset and flashed XXLPB again via odin... but still having the same problem
I really appreciate any help out here....
Flash stock firmware & see if you still have the problem. If so, clearly a hardware issue/return to Samsung/your telco for repair/replacement.
If you don't have the problem with stock, then it's clearly a prob with the rom.

I told you I have stock XXLPB on it, this problem happenned suddenly, I think after rooting... but I flashed stock again... I don't thing it's a hardware issue because it occurred in minutes when I had the phone in my hand....
It's a leak. It's an alpha. I mean proper/stable stock. Gingerbread stock. Officially released/supported by Samsung stock. Clear ? Good.
OK, so given what you've said in this post, you think it's a soft/firmware issue. Go back to stock & prove it. Or disprove it which would point to a hardware problem, despite your seemingly great surprise that somehow a rather fickle piece of electronics had a failure of one of it's mechanical/non electronic bits. (Hint: these things do fail. More often than not without warning).

[Q] Galaxy s3 screen bootloop

Hey guys,
I have a galaxy s3 (I9300) and I've had it rooted for some time now. I started using CyanogenMod 10.2 nightlies a few months ago and they've mostly been fine. The odd issue comes up but I've been able to work it out. So, a few hours ago my phone just turned off of its own accord and started to bootloop, but on the "Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-19300" screen, not the CyanogenMod screen (to clarify, this screen comes up first then the cyanogenmod one usually). I've tried booting into recovery (CWM 6) but it just shows the CWM boot logo thing (that cog with the hat) and then loops back to the galaxy s3 page. I've also tried putting it in download mode, and it seems to stay on the warning page longer than it does anywhere else, but it wont let me actually put in it download mode from there.
I had a look around google and saw people have had the same problem, but everything I could find was when people had flashed a new rom/kernel etc. and something had gone wrong in the process. The weird thing about mine is that I haven't changed anything, even downloaded any new apps, for maybe a week, so it's not like something suddenly changed. I also wasn't using it when it started, it was just sitting on the table next to me.
Usually I can work these things out, but I'm stumped here. Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Nope, if I press the volume up button to go into it, it just goes back to the bootloop. I'll try the battery thing though, thanks!
Nope, it didnt work, I left it out for maybe half an hour and nothings changed :/ anyone else got any ideas?
SDS thread and BootLoop identical questions posted .
What does Product Code say in download mode .
But if you cannot get to download mode then you need a service centre repair .
looks like u are facing SDA but a bit diffrend than a normal SDS.. mine still can go into download mode with blank product name..
If product name is blank in download mode then you got sudden death, consider a phone as a brick. Nothing will help, including repartitioning.
You need to contact service centre.
I'll check it in a minute, but if it is bricked, will any service center actually help me seeing as it's rooted and all?

AFAIK if it's sudden death then it's not possible to detect root and other modified things, or in other words - nobody has money to prove that you have been using unofficial firmware .

Ahhhh, well that is handy then
In terms of a service centre, will samsung have a list of them somewhere so I can find one near me?
So I contacted samsung and they gave me the link to book into a service centre etc, but I just realised that when I try to go into recovery mode, the CWM recovery logo comes up before going back to bootloop. Is there any way to get rid of that so that my root is completely untraceable?

If you can't flash anything with Odin (stock software) then you're screwed. Eventually you can try to enter recovery and flash "eraser" of recovery, but this requires working recovery... So if you actually can enter recovery then you can also flash anything, which will literally delete everything.
In other case, no, no way. But if you're lucky enough you may break it just by leaving your phone on for some hours in bootloop, haha.

Is there any way to wipe it with magnets or anything? hahah I'm clutching at straws now, but otherwise I'm just left with an expensive paperweight so I'm trying to find anything I can

To be honest think twice before physically crashing your internal memory, as it may void your warranty at all.
I'd try flashing stock firmware through odin, if it doesn't work I'd try flashing anything through recovery. If both of these methods fail just leave your phone in bootloop and hope that it'll automatically destroy everything...
Seriously though, you can either physically destroy internal memory or leave it in bootloop and hope for the best, eventually send them device in current status. Up to you, because you won't have a possibility to do anything else.

If I send it back to them as it is now it'll take them about 20 seconds I reckon before they see the CWM logo, realise its rooted and send it straight back, so I dont know what I'm gonna do hahah
