Hey guys, does anybody know of an app or a method that will allow me to stream video (not YouTube or Netflix) to my Vizio Smart TV? It's a really new TV with all kinds of features...I know I could simply hook up my MacBook to an HDMI port or even stream video via Apple TV, but I don't usually have those things in my living room. I'm just basically hoping to be able to stream a movie playing from an app like Showbox(or something similar to) to my TV, without any wiring. Samsung's screen mirroring feature would be ideal...if it wasn't limited to ONLY working with other Samsung products Anyways...please, if you can let me know of anything you've heard of, or have used that might make this possible, it would be greatly appreciated!!:fingers-crossed:
Unless Vizio has some type of app for their TV that I never heard of, there needs to be hardware plugged into the TV that receives the stream. Cheapest and easiest way to do this with android is a Chromecast, $35 bucks, I believe it can or soon will be able to fully mirror your screen no special root app required.
you can use the mdl to hdmi adapter from Sammy and keep a spare (but hidden) hdmi cable plugged into the tv. As far as wireless Chromcast

Can some one help me play videos from phone to my vizo 70 inch smart tv I've tried everything the closest thing I've come up with is I media share but it doesn't allow me to watch it always states video, audio not supported

Hello, first post here. Pretty new to the whole smartphone thing. Trying to get the allshare, specifically the screen share to work with my tv. I have an ethernet cord plugged into a samsung tv with allshare with the other end going into a wireless router. The phone and tv find each other and I can stream a movie without a problem. When I go down to the screen share option in the settings it says no device detected. I spoke with samsung a couple of times about it and they said the only way for that to work is with one of their wireless dongles. I find that hard to believe that I can stream movies but not share the screen but I'm also new at this so I was wondering if you had any insight. Thanks in advance
DLNA isn't made for screen sharing. It's just not...I've been using DLNA for a good while before I got a smartphone with that capability. It's really apples and oranges.
i don't understand why in the tv manual it would say that you could though. Just that my phone needs to have screen share on it. was hoping to browse the internet on my tv or play some emulators on it. has anyone else been able to do that with this phone?
ndavis, it seems you are thinking of the phone's tv out feature via 3.5 mm jack. You can't run emulators over DLNA.
i've been trying to figure out how to play videos on the phone (from my pc). the phone sees the videos, but when i try to stream them, it says "unsupported file format". I know that the file is supported because if i physically download it to my phone, it plays fine. Any ideas?
Hi there, sorry if this has been asked before. I did have a quick look (The first post in the FAQ thread) around but couldnt find this question, if it has already been asked please point me in the right direction .
I am looking at purchasing myself a SGS2 soon (Month or so, when the price drops) but I was wondering do you need a Samsung TV to connect it to the SGS2? I currently have a LG 32" and Panasonic 42", will either of these be ok?
Also a side question, which im guessing has been asked before, do I connect to the TV using a HDMI cable or DLNA? Im not exactly sure what DLNA is? is it just connecting to the Tv wirelesly?

In a nut shell yes its a way of communication between two wifi enabled devices that are DLNA certified . Your TV will have a certificate or state that it is DLNA compliant .
You can stream music , videos , etc to all DLNA devices over the air removing the need for cables.
I personally prefer cables as WiFi can be a hit and miss affair with most interference involving anything on 2.4 ghz will effect performance.
So any DLNA device your Samsung will connect to with the ALL share app
No it doesn't need to be a Samsung TV. Any TV which has a HDMI port would work perfectly fine.

The only thing a samsung TV one of the later ones will give you is the ability to use the phone as a wifi-remote and control.
DLNA which stands for complete crap, is actually good it's a simple way to stream from source to targets or to be able trigger said stream from targets specified. Best to do a youtube search as it will explain it more.
Most new tv's have dlna server clients built in. HDMI is a faster way to get a stream to play on a tv though so depends.
Side note : The current bit rate for HD vid shot on the phone is actually really crap, 10-13mbits so anything you shoot on the phone would stream over wifi using dlna quite easy. However if you decided to put a 40mbit per second HD movie, streaming over wifi maybe a little hard on all but the best wifi routes/systems. For that you would really want a hdmi out for your sgs2

just be clear here, any TV with a HDMI port will allow picture and sound from the phone, however you are going to have to wait until june to get the adapter to allow this. This adapter (MHL) converts the mini usb port into a data port which will allow usb host, hdmi and charging from a MHL enabled TV (not available yet) and just picture and sound from a normal TV with HDMI.

If you want to show wirelessly on TV, and the TV is DLNA compliant, you can show directly from PC to TV. You can also throw an HDMI cable from PC to TV if you can.

Thanks for that. So basically what you are saying is currently if I was connecting the phone to a TV using HDMI the sound would come out of the phone and not the TV? However when this adapter gets released the sound will come out of the TV?
If you use DNLA then no, sound and video both will come out of the tv. If you're talking about connecting to tv's HDMI then again no, both sound and video come out of the tv. In other words, if video comes out of the tv, so will sound. If video doesn't come out of the tv, then neither will sound.
Basically you either get both or none lol

Is it impossible to charge the phone while connected to a non-MHL TV, or does the adapter have a separate charging pass-through?
The MHL-HDMI adapter has a socket for a charger so you phone will get charged, too.
I've got a peculiar issue I need some help with. My son often uses my tablet to watch movies or play games on my tablet. The issue is recently he's been doing something that projects/streams whatever you want to call it, it displays what's on the tablet on the downstairs television. We've never had this issue before, but then again the TV is new, it's a Panasonic Viera. Great TV with a lot of options, in fact it's connected to my local network.
My guess is there's some app on the Transformer that's interacting with an feature on the Panasonic. It is very cool feature, like Apple mirroring, however I don't know what my son is doing to activate it. He just randomly turns it on and I'll be downstairs watching TV and the screen will change. That's another really odd symptom, the TV input isn't changed, it's still on HDMI running cable TV, so whatever he's doing is overriding the TV. I check the tablet and there's no open app, like he's turning it off and on because the TV only does the mirroring for a few seconds. Another guess is that the app opens, then he tries to close it which is why I just see a couple seconds on TV.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is there any other info I can provide to help diagnose? I've got too many apps to list.

It may be interacting with your TV's Viera link which acts like Chromecast. You could turn off the Viera link when not needed to prevent this from happening when you don't want it to.

My cousin had a roku and I tried to miracast on a stock rom (Jasmine). It went about 1/3 of the way and failed. I can confirm it as a problem
I'm also looking for a app that I can use to watch TV shows and movies, I don't mind paying monthly. I used Netflix and I don't like it much and Amazon prime is OK, is there any others

It all depends. I have both a Roku (two of them) and one Chromecast (got it free via mPoints. Played a LOT of Office Jerk to get it! LOL).
Chromecast is nice. But, you have to use your device to cast. Your phone or tablet is your remote. At the time, it was nice because it was the only way to cast Google Play media. However, Google has released a Roku app for that.
What is nice about the Chromecast is it's very light weight. You can put it in your pocket. You still need to the USB chord and power adapter to make it work, but it's nice in that case. No remote needed since your device is the remote. And once you start streaming, you don't have to keep the device on. It's just used to verify that you are allowed to stream whatever content you want streamed.
Roku, on the other hand, has it's own remote (but you can use an app which I use when I need to type in searches, so I can use the keyboard on my device). It has a lot more apps, and now that it has the Google Play app, it almost makes the Chromecast irrelevant. The price is what kills Roku, although with their streaming stick at the same price as a Chromecast ($30 I believe), that's another option that has the same apps as the standard Roku device.
The Roku is what I use on our main HD TV in my man cave. The Chromecast is what I have for our bedroom TV.
One thing with the Chromecast is, it's ONLY for TVs with HDMI inputs. The normal Roku device (not the stick) can hook up to HDMI or regular RCA jacks. Although, I would assume most people don't have non-HD TVs anymore. We do in our living room (wife doesn't want a flat screen for some reason), so that TV has the second Roku hooked up via RCA jacks.
So, it all depends on what you want. Roku has more apps, but Chromecast is building up on apps as well. I would probably steer people towards a Roku. If you want a small device, then get the Roku Streaming Stick. If that didn't exist and price was an issue (IOW, you wanted the cheapest price and still get plenty of functionality), then I would have said Chromecast.
I'm not unhappy I have a Chromecast (heck, it was free), and before the Roku Streaming Stick, if I had purchased it, I still would be happy with it.
So my parents bought a Philips 48pfs8109/12 Smart TV (Android).
I want to set up something like Kodi so i can simplify the UI of the mediacenter we have, and to have them control the TV with the ipad.
I first looked at plex and tought i found the solution. So i bought a chrome cast and set everything up. The problem that occurred was that the video stutterd a lot because for some reason the streaming over wifi is not doing what is should do.
I do not think it is our internet speed since we have a decent connection and download and upload speed.
So since our TV is hooked up to the internet via Ethernet i wanted to use the TV as a receiver.
But the plex app kept asking for a PlexPass so that wasn't a solution either.
Then my eye caught XBMC or as it is called now Kodi but i cant find a way to set it up on my android tv.
I have rooted my tv, which i think means i can install unknown sources.
Maybe if i install the kodi android file on my tv. I will try that later today.
But if anyone knows a better way
PS: I also saw plexbmc and plexbmc helper which is nice because my parents like the plex ipad app.
