[Q] Compass issues? - Sprint LG G3

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone is having a problem with their compass, either in a compass app or Google Maps. I'm finding that no matter where I am and how much I try to "calibrate" the compass, it has a problem finding the correct bearings. My old S3 never had this problem and I'm wondering if it's a hardware defect or a software issue.

I'm having the same issue. I've tried the three rotation and the figure 8 calibration methods and both a compass app and Google Maps are showing incorrect (and inconsistent) compass readings. A few other threads (in other G3 forums) have noted this, some saying it might be the GPS heading or something. Hard to say for sure.

I noticed the problem after I downloaded Google Sky Map. The phone didn't track properly and went back close to North after a second or two. I was trying to show someone what the app could do and needless to say he was not impressed. I hope there's a fix for this soon.

I had installed the ZV6 update, but my compass issue persisted. I then grabbed the modem.img file from this thread and flashed it using the flash2 tools and my preliminary tests look promising.

Interesting, as the modem and kernel are included already. In ZV6 update and BarRin.

I expected that it was, but I figured "What the hell, what could it hurt?" and flashed it. There was a definite improvement. Google Maps no longer thinks I'm constantly looking out my side window.

memory effect
Hello.
I found that issue have a memory effect.
I tried my own application and maps => ko
I started 3d gyro compass => ok ( don t know why... Maybe init sequence)
I re tried my application and maps => ok
So you cannot evaluate if an update fix or not if you don t do exactly the same sequence...

Hi. I actually followed what @somnifac did by flashing the ZV6 modem.img separately and I haven't had any compass issues since then. But since you have a different variant this doesn't really apply to your phone. I also installed HERE Offline Maps like you mentioned and I didn't get that message. Do you have all the latest updates on your phone? Perhaps the Lollipop update might fix this issue. Best of luck!

i think it's for Sprint only
when i open the app it doesn't appear, only if i touch the green circle in the bottom left it says that the compass needs to be calibrated, after i calibrate it it's ok,but once i disable GPS and enable it, it appears again, i hope it's not my device that has a problem, maybe i'll be able to get my hands on another G3 to sort it out. Thanks

GPS stopped locking on

My GPS worked out of the box when I got this phone last week but now it hasn't locked on all day. I am running the latest evil fascination ROM. Any advice?
Did you try wiping data, cache, and dalvik after install?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I am having the exact same issue. I NEVER get a lock anymore - even leaving it on for 30 minutes....
I have been running various ComRoms with various kernels and radios and still the same unusable GPS. I have also played with GPS Aids, GPS Status, and some other ones. I have read all the various forum posts about this issue to. Still nothing.
Would really love to know if anyone has any new advice... I too am getting really sick of it not locking on at all.... it used to just be slow, now it's useless all together.
Similar issue on a i9000 galaxy S here. Question: do you all recall if prior to the issue appearing you upgraded the version of google maps installed? Or some other app?

It was that damned Google Maps update after all! I stumbled into this: http://www.google.ru/support/forum/p...053f4eeb&hl=en
Uninstalled (the updates over the stock) Google Maps and presto: locked just fine!
try rebooting phone leaving gps on. you might want to look into a gps aid like gps booster. Since I have been running the powerwash rom, gps works better than ever.

[Q] BBC iPlayer flicker?

Anyone getting an annoying triangle-shaped black flicker across the left of the screen when viewing content on iplayer?
I'm using stock browser, Flash 11 stock 3.1 Tom with TouchWiz.
If so, any suggestions to clear it?
Thanks
Did you manage to resolve this issue. Just recently bought my tab and have the same issue.
I saw one fix which suggest to come out of full screen view and go back in (sometimes requires a couple of attempts).
The above actually works for me (requires to be done for every session). But would be interesting to know what the cause of it is. I have not experienced it in any other sort of video.
Same here
I have this problem also, really annoying.
Hopefully a future Flash player update will resolve this.
Same here, p7500 16GB. Same issue
All stock no custom roms tried at all
Signed, quite frustrating and only seems to be iplayer for me
I still have the issue but find the full-screen back to small-screen toggle seems to help. How annoying. The most recent Flash update didn't fix it, and the most recent ROM update in the UK (Vodaphone) didn't solve it.
Had the same issue on my 8.9 tab after an automatic update of Flash.
Uninstalled the update and all was well again.
Your mileage might vary on a 10.1 but here's hoping this sorts you guys out too.

Yes that also worked for me, however I do wonder what we are missing out on from the later releases. Hope adobe will release another update that fixes the bits it broke with the last update. Thanks.
Ive noticed this once on mine, but i had my bluetooth headphones connected and just thought it was interference from them. After i disconnected them and just used the internal speakers, it was fine again. Ive not had the problem since. My problem is with the iplayer itself, you cant keep it running in the background which prevents you from multitasking!

[Q] Problem with Google Nav and CM10.1

Hi - My post count is not high enough to ask this question in the CM10.1 thread.
I've installed cm-10.1-20130304-EXPERIMENTAL-fireball-M2.zip and gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip successfully and most everything seems to be working well except for Google Navigation.
After selecting a destination, it correctly shows my location, determines the route, draws the map and shows route. However, as soon as I begin to drive it freezes and the app stops responding requiring force close.
I don't think it's the GPS since GPS Status, Zillow, c:Geo and even Google Maps all work OK tracking me while I drive.
All I've tried so far is to uninstall/reinstall Google Maps and cold boot.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
I just noticed you said your running the experimental M build. I'm running the nightly from that sane date and nav works just fine.

i'm running the m snapshot and GPS works fine.also there is a new gapps package available, which you have I see
I can definitely attest to experiencing this problem on multiple occasions. I haven't put a whole lot of thought or effort into troubleshooting it yet, as I was more inclined to restart my phone and restart navigation so that I don't miss my turn as opposed to sitting there and trying to test various scenarios to see what causes the issue. Without any serious level of troubleshooting, i think the only helpful information that I can bring to the table is that I have only noticed it while the phone is charging in the car. It doesn't happen every time (maybe 20% of the time), but when it does happen, the screen freezes immediately upon the screen flying into the proper position on the map.

read the OP IN development cm 10,1 workarounds, gps fix is there
Shot in the dark. Did you try force closing the maps app and clearing the data and cache of the app then restarting it. I've had this fix problems for apps in the past. Worth a shot.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll try a nightly build to see if that fixes it. I'll also try running it while not charging - so far it's also been on the car charger. As I mentioned, the GPS works fine, so the GPS workaround didn't seem to be needed. I did try the force close and clear data/cache.
I did find a working workaround by googling the issue. Apparently it's not uncommon across various phones and Adnroid versions. I couldn't find a fix though.
The work around that works is to set Nav to use 'North Up'. You do that by hitting the little compass symbol on the top left while in nav. It was tricky to hit it quick enough before freezing, but I got it. Thankfully that setting sticks for future nav requests. I get no crashes/freezes when I use it North up. As soon as I switch it back, it freezes. Odd. At least I can use it, but would still be good to find the cause and fix.

Yeah I'd recommend just using a different nightly. I could not replicate this problem with and without a charger on Thursday.

Same problem. I have wiped, reflashed a dozen different nightlies, and still have the same problem. It works fine in every other rom I try, either Viper or stock. Every cm10.1 causes this problem. I am using the workaround posted above(north up), but it is annoying.
Waze works well, also.
My wife has the same phone, same setup, and hers works fine.
I have yet to experience this issue with CM10.1 and I regularly flash the "sudo" nightly builds posted by mdmower on goo.im.
That said, for those experiencing this issue:
- Did you a full wipe/facotory reset before flashing to the new rom?
- Did you make sure that all your location services were turned on before flashing to the new rom?
-- If you didn't enable all location services before flashing the new rom, I strongly encourage you to flash to a sense rom and follow the instructions provided by mdmower on the CM10.1 thread in the development section.
Good luck!

Yes, full wipe and factory reset.
Yes, all 3 location services are on.
GPS locks fine. It works with north up in Maps, and with Waze, and with any other rom. Just not cm10.1

Why are you using such an old nightly? Step up from M2 to the RC. The only issue I've had with the RC is a minor audio problem that has a workaround in place.

That post was from March when that nightly was current. The later versions didn't fix it either. The issue still exists for me, and I've just been living with the North Up workaround. I suspect it's not something CM10.1 specifically, but that was a contributing factor as it worked before the ROM switch. I think there have even been Google Maps app updates since the issue started that didn't fix it.
With the new kernel version of cm10.1 becoming available, I did a full wipe and fresh install with the 7/1 nightly, and I still have the maps issue. Living with the North Up fix for now.

cm10.2 from mdmower fixed this problem for me. Navigation works flawlessly now. Reverting back to 10.1 reproduces the issue.

[BUGS] - Nexus 10 - KRT160 (4.4)

* - Let's seperate out the bugs.
* - Stock only please. If you're running a custom ROM - DO NOT POST HERE.
* - This isn't a help thread about installing updates...
* - If you think you found a bug it is VITALLY important you list steps to reproduce the bug.. If others can't reproduce it.. It's not a bug.
* - Also do not report anything if you have GEL installed. GEL is not "stock" for the N10 and any problems are not KRT160 problems.
Bugs
-----------------------
Please star and confirm it there if you can to get this item noticed:
1. Nexus 10 - KRT160 - Homescreen not redrawing Google Search if you flick items off instead of dragging to remove
2. Settings force close if you have evernote installed and click on its icon in settings and clicking the Evernote account
I always wanted to reserve..
Bug #1 has also been confirmed on the Nexus 7 Original.

Confirmed..
Hey developers.. Would you consider this an Android problem or a developers app not compatible with 4.4 problem?
I would report this to the app developer. He will be able to file a more detailed bug report if not fix it himself
I cannot drag and drop app icon from App drawer to the Home screen. Every time I try this I just load the app. It doesn't matter for how long I'm holding the app icon. Maybe this is due to the low battery, which is doubtful. Reboot doesn't help. Please kindly let me know if I'm not the only one with such weirdness.
This is definitely some malfunction since per Android 4.4 User Guide (http://www.google.com/help/hc/images/android/android_ug_42/Android-Quick-Start-Guide.pdf):
To add an app icon to a Home screen:
1. Go to the Home screen where you want to place the app.
2. Touch theAll Apps icon.
3. Swipe from right to left, if necessary, to find the app you want.
4. Touch & hold the app until the Home screen appears, slide it into place, and lift your finger
Edit:
Found out that this only happens when the device is plugged with USB cable. Maybe this is a feature not a bug...

Just a small suggestion for the bug list. Rather than have a raw URL link please make the subject title the URL link. For example the first bug:

In this way your list will be is easier to scan. Thanks for creating this thread.

Has anyone noticed that since the upgrade to 4.4 that your device is staying awake? Seems to be caused by Android system. It doesn't sleep anymore and it's draining my battery because of this. Anyone found out what the problem is? I read on another forum that it's being caused by the Google Keyboard that is shipped with 4.4, if I change the keyboard with the 1,2,3 layout, will this solve the battery drain issue? This is weird man......
Thanks for the replies!

Haven't had a look at battery stats or anything but I got over 6 hours screen on time yesterday, so I can't say i've got a problem with battery life
Here's a screenshot I made. To verify it, I disabled the keyboard for a moment, and indeed, the device went to sleep. I then re-enabled the keyboard and again the device won't sleep! Without use I lost 5% of my battery in just 30 minutes. Anyone knows how I can update the keyboard with the newest version?
I think I solved the problem. I turned off Hotword detection under Google Now settings, and then Voice. Seems to have done the trick! Now when the screen is switched off the device goes to sleep. This is weird though, it should switch off when the screen is off but it doesn't! So, I think this is a legitimate bug that needs fixing! Can someone give this a try and report back if this solution helped?

Google maps compass issue

I am facing a problem after the last update. When I open Google maps my compass keeps rotating clockwise. (So I can't even use navigation)
I tried calibrating it (by drawing 8) but nothing works. I checked with other compass apps but it works perfectly fine. The problem is only with Google maps.
I even tried reinstalling Google maps but it works only for the first time and after that the same thing happens.
Is anyone facing the similar issue?
Can anyone help me here? I don't think it's a hardware problem.
i have same problem, only solved for now by reinstalling the old version of maps
Have you tried to restart your phone? I think there is a firmware bug with compass, which cause degradation of compass after some days of working.
Same issue here.
The compass keeps rotating on map and seems very unstable on others compass applications.
Don't have a clue on what to do. Maybe a firmware update ? A factory restore ?
Interesting, mine is working perfectly fine.
I've tried to recalibrate the Accelerometer and the Magnetometer without success...
What can I do ?

Seems there was some hardware issue with my Mi A3.
Checked with one friend with same device and she was not having this problem.
