taking apart lghiddenmenu.apk - Sprint LG G3

As the title says, I'm taking apart the lghiddenmenu system app. From what I can see in the activities, it seems to be what handles dialer codes like ##data# or ##debug#. There might be a switch to unlock the boot loader somewhere in there... Maybe a custom dialer code.. Probably not but I can hope. So far what I've found in the apk has been a banner for the g2 and some low res pics of a chiwawa. I'll post back here when I find more.

I decompiled the app and went through it a bit more without getting anywhere exciting. After doing some googling I found the dialler code to access the menu. It seems like a lot of items are missing. I'll look into enabling them tomorrow. What I did find was the AAT testing menu which let me reboot into mini os. Unfortunately there wasn't a big flashing button that said unlock boot loader. Tommorow I'm going to see if I can find a USB vulnerability for mini os.

Giver hell man!

I wonder why Sprint went with the completely neutered version of this hidden menu over the other carriers.

Rebooting into recovery lets you adb sideload, but has to have a signed file. Any way to Figure out how to bypass or fake a signed file?

With root possibly coming out today. This might be helpful. Most of the stuff couldn't be opened unless you were rooted.
I came across this app last night in the play store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.shortcutmaster.lite
I was able to access some menu's I haven't seen elsewhere. I have the Sprint G3. Some of this stuff is beyond me and I'm not sure if it's anything helpful.

Cool, we can finally turn off thermal mitigation to see if it improves things.

I cannot figure out how to use shortcut master (lite) to open the hidden menu that can change the fps.
Is this still needed on our Sprint variant?
Anyone have any tips on how to use shortcut master in this regard?
Thanks

1) Root your phone.
2) Open up Shortcut Master Lite.
3) Tap the menu > App Explorer.
4) Launch com.lge.hiddenmenu.
5) Be very careful.
I had removed my thermal throttling and my phone was getting way too hot. It actually overheated this morning for the first time. I just set it all back, though I left the fps high. Not sure if it will be as fluid. The phone has been as smooth as butter for the few days I ran it this way, but battery life has been complete garbage.

Thank you. I was searching through secret code explorer instead of app explorer. Haven't changed anything. Personally I haven't noticed any lag at all, so I'm inclined not to change anything.

Does anybody else have the Dynamic LCD refresh setting revert to defaults? I keep disabling the governor, and setting it to 60FPS static. It just resets to default every time I go back to access the menu (using Shortcut Master). The thermal mitigation and high temp settings take, and do not reset to defaults. Just the LCD refresh setting......

Pretty self explanatory. Rename the apk. Put the apk in /system/framework change permissions and reboot.
Now just to disable the capacitive buttons.
My DPI is 240 btw. On Dagr8 alpha2.
Feel free to mirror since dropbox has limits.
NavBarDualSettings
NavBar update.zip
SystemUI Blue buttons for manual edits
NavBar for dagr8's Hybrid RC2
SystemUI for Hybrid with menu always shown
This is experimental and has not been tested by me because I am running Hybrid with the tablet ui and not NavBar. Recommend nandroid before trying.

As always, feel free to buy me a beer.
I dont get this? Is it tablet mode or what?

Makes it into a tablet UI. sort of. Two columns instead of taking you to a whole new screen.

Change permissions to what?
Any way to get the soft keys to show up in tablet mode? Like when you change dpi to 213. There are no soft keys or notification area at the bottom.
Op. Just try to call someone you'll see the dialer. The problem is the buttons they shrink the native resolution that will fiddle with other misc apps as well..
Also unless running custom dpi this is not very practical..
You can mod phone to never turn on lights this will make you believe they are gone..
home button and the back button should pretty much be the only useful ones I dunno why google went with 3 or 4 in the first place.iguess it's just by design but even the back button is arguable.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Does this only give you the 3 buttons at the bottom or does it give you the time popup also with settings and toggles?
The navigation bar uses contextual buttons, so they'll change depending on the situation. the menu button only appears when there is a menu option. It also places the menu button in the unfortunate location if the dead zone in the very bottom right corner of the screen where a lot of people can't get the s--pen to work.
None of the Samsung Touchwiz apps work properly with the navigation bar. They don't adjust for the real estate the navigation bar uses. Also many of them don't use a contextual menu button properly so there is no way too get into menu settings in done apps. Others, like contacts, place them in bad places so they are fight to press because they are under another active button.
The solution is to replace the affected apps with modded versions, but I've had little luck with that. The ICS MMS app in the market works well though.

Dpi should be changed using romtoolbox or manually editing the build.prop. If you search the dev thread for build.prop you will find many different scenarios... Hope this helps.

The second is in the picture in the previous post. Which one do I change or do I change them both?
Thanks,

Ok, finally flashed alpha 2 all is smooth and running great.
but when i go to the play store the launcher that i use " TSF Shell" is not showing up. and when i go on line to the play store and try to load it remotely the only device that pops up is the i777 not my i717. so it never really loads to my phone.
is there away around this??
Edit: never mind i answered my own question thanks.
Is anybody else having issues with S-Memo while running an alternate DPI? My Note is not displaying the backgrounds correctly, though the actual input is recorded accurately.
I downloaded dpi changer utility off the play store, but when I tried to change the dpi to 280, my phone wouldn't boot up.... Had to reflash the ics Rom. Is that something to do with my phone? Or the app itself?

Battery life on new rom..
maybe its just me but it seems that battery life on this ROM is a little shorter than some of the GB ROMs. Is anyone seeing this as well? ROM runs well and according to CPU spy the device is entering deep sleep just fine.
Does the rom have to "re-learn" the battery in order to manage it better? (hopefully this makes sense) Do I need to let it cook for a few more days?
Oops.. Didnt mean to put this inside of this thread. Can it be moved up a level?

Had the same issue when using dpi apps from the market. I think they are changing the permissions of the buildprop file after modification, so then your phone hangs on reboot. I used Es file explorer to change the two dpi strings in the buildprop file, save it, then double check the properties to make sure that it's still set to rw-r-r. Reboot and you should be good.

Mods please Sticky, PM request sent.
I used this for a few days but had to switch back to GB to get my device unlocked.
One thing I did notice when it was running .. Google Maps kept showing up in my Task Manager ... without me having launched it.. or ANY applications. If I rebooted the phone, set it down and waited 10 minutes.. and then checked the task manager, MAPS would show.
Very odd. Probably something I did wrong along the way.
As for battery life.. yes.. it's shorter by a bit in this release I believe.
Back on the stock ROM today and my battery made it the whole day.. with identical usage.. So yeah, consumption seems up a bit in this release.. And that was after running Supercharger script set to 'conserve power' and running the DIE hard battery script..
Has anyone else experienced not receiving or sending any text messages?! It say sent but when i look at the phone i sent it to its not there and ive tried everything except flashing back to gb?

DPI & Google Play
I have an issue where I was running at 285 DPI then my market started acting up. It's not showing the movies section and a lot of apps are not showing up as being compatible. for instance, I have google + installed, but when I go to the play store it says not compatible. I changed the DPI back to 320 with rom tool box and also verified that it was changed in the build.prop and it is changed to 320 in both sections. I have rebooted, powered down & battery pulled several times and google play is still acting up.
Any suggestions?

Just got DNA today, some questions and issues

So I got my dna today
Im just at the point of almost having it setup like I like but I have some questions/issues
I wanted to try the stock email but when I put in my aol email (yes I know who uses aol still) it tells me login details are wrong something to that affect when they aren’t
Is there any settings in the camera I should set to get the best pics I can overall
I have it on wifi and at one point today I had no connection even on wifi and had to switch wifi off then back on to get it back don’t know if this was a fluke or if this is something I will experience again anyone else have this?
I use to use an app called folder organizer is there any other newer apps that are recommended to make folders..it seems the sense folders wont let me put other things besides apps in them I like putting bookmarks etc..
Since the stock email wasn’t working I went back to what ive been using for years now and that’s k-9 email but for some reason im not getting it pushed as fast as I should I have my old phone set on wifi right next to it and im getting email right away on that and on the dna an extreme delay or I have to manually hit check mail
Also I noticed with the notification light it goes off after a bit..i googled this and it seems this might be a sense thing that they have done in the past like a 5 min rule? So im guess this is on this phone too?...anyway at all around this? If not extending the time or turning it off then some sort of thing that can be set as a reminder so if its stops after 5 min then eventfully it starts up again then goes off then starts again….
and any battery saving tips i havnt really gone through the settings yet or other settings that are suggested to change?

Correct me if I'm wrong XDA but I'm pretty sure this is a built in battery saving option HTC has. Its more helpful than annoying I think. The longer your light blinks the more battery is used, may not be much but if your light blinks alot then its almost like having it on all day. Since the DNA has two notification lights (front top right and back top left) I think this is very beneficial There is no option to disable the 5 min shutoff sorry.

My best battery saving tip would be brightness. Since the DNA has the most powerful screen it uses a good chunk of battery life to keep it lit. On an empty home screen page get the "power dashboard" widget. With this put Brightness to 1, Timeout to 1, and turn Auto Sync to Off. Use WiFi and Bluetooth as needed.

you drag an app on top of another. And if you want to add a bookmark you just drag a bookmark on the folder
so my wifi issue is legit and seems other people are having it too
it seems when its asleep for a bit i awake it and then disconnects flashes to 4g connected back to my network but i have no activity at that moment then i have turn wifi off and on to get it back

thanks but just ran into a reason its no good for me it has a limit of how many things can be in the folder
For battery, your typical tips apply. Lower brightness to lowest acceptable level. Screen timeout as low as you can stand it. Sync only those things which are absolutely necessary.
For camera, there's a thread here somewhere about getting better low light shots. Something like turning exposure up and setting iso to 200. Look around you'll find it in here somewhere.
I have had no issues with WiFi disconnects and I'm on WiFi all the time.

the wifi problem hasnt happened since i forgot all wifi and started from scratch with network connections
but have some other questions now
i was using Gsam to monitor battery usage and i notice big difference between there app usage list and the built in one look here
is this normal or is something wrong with either gsam or android, which should i trust or am i reading this wrong
another question is it better for battery life to use auto brightness or if i kept it at this level all the time?
speaking of battery life trying to figure out if my battery is doing good overall when i wake up i sit and check facebook, open 2 or 3 other apps go to a few sites and do some messaging within 35 min sometimes a min or 2 goes with the screen off in that time frame and i go down about 8-10 percent battery does this sound about right?

Change the default screen timeout! Keep On Keeping On keeps your screen on!
The default screen timeout interval on Android Wear is too short!
Having such a short timeout makes it difficult to perform tasks that require pauses or to demonstrate features for an audience.
Using KOKO (Keep On Keeping On) you can keep your screen on longer!
Choose from many timeout options ranging from 5 seconds to 2 hours. Or keep your screen on indefinitely!
Please allow a few minutes for the app to be installed on the wearable after installing to mobile device.
Please be aware that setting a long screen off time will affect your battery life.
Now use wrist gestures in KOKO to select your screen timeout without touching your watch!!!!
Feel free to message us with requests for timeout intervals if you can't find one that works for you.
Thanks for trying it out and any feedback you may have.
I thought payed apps are allowed here ONLY, if also a free Version is pushed!
Free version coming soon for XDA, sorry for the delay. Created post on mobile and will update when I get to desktop.
Thread re-opened.
Again, sorry for the delay in getting the free version up. But it's there (OP) now. Please leave feedback if you find any issues.

Havent received 5.1.1 on my Moto360 yet. I'll check it out on the emulator and see if I can find what's up. Thanks for letting me know.

Alright, I think I fixed it. 5.1.1 required a new library that was previously missing. Please let me know if v1.3 works for you.

Well it does not FC anymore but it does not seem to do anything.
EDIT: It does in fact work but not the short options, nothing under 30s works.

Okie dokie, I'll look into that. They work on the emulator so I may have to wait until I get 5.1.1 on my Moto360 to diagnose it. Maybe the default timeout was increased in 5.1.1?

I don't really think so because I think that's what it always was for me even on 4.4 and 5.0, I think 30s always the default, that's why I was hoping your app would let me decrease that time.
That is long for default. On my Moto is was like 4 seconds, that's why I made this app. I don't really want the app to force screen off, just keep it on. Maybe it's a build.prop setting? Are you rooted? Running a custom ROM? I'm neither.
EDIT: I see you are indeed rooted by your sig, maybe it's something in your ROM?

I just have root and a custom kernel, didn't modify anything in the ROM, and I did keep the watch not rooted for a long time and that's just the screen on time I always had by default, I can't see anything in build.prop that I could modify to lower the screen on time, I also used some other apps from Play Store on older android versions to do that but they have not been updated in a long time and thus don't work anymore. I was hoping your app would allow me to do that but I understand if you don't want to give that option, I will learn java in my next year of college so I might try to make my own app to do that afterwards, thank you for your work anyway, it's good to have it for those that want longer screen on time.
I was thinking off how to implement the screen off, how to know when the users not still interacting? Maybe a transparent overlay on the entire screen that listens for touches and after each touch resets a timer that when reaches its end turns off the screen? But this would require the DRAW OVER APPS permission and a Service to add the overlay to WindowManager. If I get some time I'll see if I can slap a demo together.

(Rooted) Enable Hotspot

Download Shortcut Master Lite.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.shortcutmaster.lite
Open, click 3 dots in top right.
Click Search.
Type "apn".
Scroll and look for: com.lge.hiddenmenu.ModemProtocol.ApnUnlock
Click on it and launch it.
Click on "Unlock APN"
Click the back button to go back to the previous screen.
Scroll and look for: com.lge.hiddenmenu.ModemProtocol.ApnSettings
Click on it and launch it.
On Sprint it will say Access Points.
Then it has Sprint LTE Internet.
Click it and scroll down to Apn type.
Add ,dun to the end of everything on that line. (Example: default, mms, supl, hipri, dun)
Click the 3 dots in the top right and click save.
This works on my rooted 997 on Sprint. Might be pretty universal for everyone. Let me know.

good call, im decompiling the system.settings and the hidden menu,
i was able to get hotspot and roaming controls back, as well as some other stuff im working on releasing this week,
thank you for the tut!
May be kind of a dumb question, but what's the difference between this and regular wifi tethering..??
It's just a shortcut app to get into the settings required to enable it to bypass provisioning bits and goodies. So it's the same as the tethering as normal, but uses the app download, to edit the files to turn it on properly and all that. That's the short version.
wow the stuff you can access using this little app is great,
already enabled a ton of stuff they didnt include, like soft reset holding power/volume down ( why did they not have that on? like its fun to take my case off when i need to get it unfrooze lol)!!
Weird...i cant edit that line

Missed a step in the OP. Added in:
Scroll and look for: com.lge.hiddenmenu.ModemProtocol.ApnUnlock
Click on it and launch it.
Click on "Unlock APN"
Sorry for the confusion.
If you search power. And launch the power.main should be 1st one.. After launch Its near the bottom. Says vol down plus power. Enable it.
I have followed all steps on my 997 and can now get the hotspot to turn on and devices connect but there is no data. Any ideas? Am I missing something?
I'm on H918 with TMO. The settings were very similar. I did a speed test tethering my tablet before following the OP, and a test after. It could be coincidence, but after the edit it was faster, telling me there may have been some throttling. before the edit.
Also, with the TMO phone, band selection is important. Frequently at home my phone switches to band 12 at one end of the house because band 4 is weaker, but band 4 is much faster. Manually switching it back to band 4 involves entering *#546368#*918# in the dialer. Creating a favorite in shortcut master takes me right to the hidden menu. Nice! Thanks @pdaddy !
I get thr, you've used your high speed tethering allorment for this month, tethering speed will be reduced to 128kbps
Im not surprised, but i cant find this on my Verizon VS995... Stupid verizon...
Worked on my device perfectly. The menu items were different on my rom but it only took a few seconds to figure it out. Thanks for sharing.

i did this and read every other thread concerning wifi hotspot/tethering but i not only is the "APN type" unavailable in the first place, i cannot edit any of the APN settings without a service code. there's a popup when i hit "edit" instead of "view" after launching the hidden menu from shortcut master.
anyone have this service code or know how to get around this?

I can not promise this will work since I don't have a Sprint device, but if you're rooted you could install my Full-screen Caller ID mod which include an APN unlock option in the app which is installed when you flash the mod.
Check the screenshots very last pictures, it shows the advanced menu options. You should be able to use them no problem.
The mod will for sure work for you since I had 2 of the devs here that have sprint devices confirm that everything works.
Good luck
