[Q] Unlocking bootloader on network unlocked phone - HTC One X+

Hi all. Im about to order this phone on ebay and just have one final question. I am unaware if wether this phone was factory unlocked or unlocked from a network. I know on some phones (xperia) if they were network locked at any stage you cannot unlock the bootloader, is this the case with the HOX+?
So basically I want to know is there a possibility that I wont be allowed unlock the bootloader of this phone and be stuck on stock rom forever?

Will Upgrading the ROM re-lock a phone I had unlocked?

When you unlock the phone, what gets unlocked ? The phone or your sim card ? Here is my real problem:
I originally had the XDA 1 from T-Mobile, bought an XDAII on Ebay, was told it was unlocked, but it was not. Ran the xda2unlock program from your website, it unlocked the phone so I could use the phone itself with my old SIM card from T-Mobile. Now I see there is a new ROM from O2, the question is, if I run that, will the unit be locked once again, and since the Radio verison on the new ROM is 1.17, and the xda2unlock only works on 1.10 radio stack (as said on the download site here) will I then be stuck with a phone with a new ROM that is once again locked - that I won't be able to unlock ? I don't want to try this unless I am fairly certain it is a safe thing to do... :? :? :?
it wont re-lock the phone if you upgrade
When you unlock the phone, what gets unlocked?
Where is the information stored that determines if a phone is unlocked or locked then ? If it's on the SIM card itself, then I could see that a phone upgrade wouldn't (shouldn't) have any effect. If it's on the phone, wouldn't that lock/unlock information be overwritten when the phone's ROM is upgraded? :?
re-locked
Nope, I unlocked my XDAII then upgraded the ROM to the latest and nope it didn't relock it stayed unlocked!
TJ
It's not on the sim card
lock information is found in the bootloader of the device, so it wil be not affected due a normal firmware upgrade
so if I replace the boot loader of the device then will it unlock the locked phone.

[Q] Help with unlocking bootloader on Live (WT19i)

I have been trying for two days now to unlock the bootloader on a friend's Live with Walkman (Wt19i) with little success.
The phone came with firmware 4.0.2.A.0.58 and is branded so in the *#*#7378423#*#* /Service info/Configuration menu, the rooting status is :
Bootloader unlock allowed: No
Rooting was easy, thanks DoomLord.
Next is unlock bootloader. I tried to do this via the s1tool method because the official Sony method was a no-go because of branding.
The s1tool method seemed like it would work but then I read that it also doesn't work on branded phones.
I attempted it anyway - the result was no change whatsoever in the phone's bootloader status.
Can I unlock the bootloader without having to pay someone to do it?
The s1tool method might work even if the phone is branded but if you want to unlock the boot loader to flash custom kernels and roms you will need to enter to fast boot mode which is disabled in all the branded phones that I know of, you can try to enter the phone in fastboot mode turning it of and connecting the USB cable to the PC and the phone holding down the volume up key, if the notification led turn on blue then you can flash custom kernels and rooms once the bootloader is unlocked if not then you will need to pay to unlock it if that is what you or your friend wants.
Hope it's helpful!!
Thanks for your reply, very helpful indeed.
I will see if I can boot into that mode when I get back home and at least then I'll know for sure.
It would be ever-so-nice if I could unlock this for her without having to pay money for it. (She won it in a competition that she only entered because her iPhone died recently - but the Live WT19i is locked to the wrong network)

Well actually for a sim unlock at this moment you will need to pay for, there's no way to unlock the sim for free. Unlocking the bootloader it's a different matter than the sim. I didn't mention it because you were asking about the boot loader sorry.
And I stupidly assumed unlocking the bootloader would allow me to unlock the SIM lock/branding.
Thanks again for the help, I'll just tell her she has to pony up the dough if she wants to use it on her network.

[Q] Difference Between Unlocked and SIM Unlock

Hi,
I have a noob question. When you unlock bootloader, that's mean is SIM Unlock or it's completly different ? I know SIM unlock is to go with any phone company.
Thank you.
Completely different things. With the bootloader unlocked, you're able to install custom kernels, but the SIM Lock will remains (if you have it).

[Question]Unlocking Bootloader & TurboSIM

Hey folks, I've been nugging around the bootloader unlocking problem, since I own a Neo V which is locked, and the service menu in the phone says that the Bootloader cannot be unlocked. So I've read through some threads about this, and I wondered upon the idea, if I unlock my SIM lock(probably with TurboSIM, since thats the cheapest solution), would that enable me to unlock my bootloader, and start the real modifying of my phone?
What do you guys think? Worth's a try?

Both are unrelated but often confused. Unlocking for a different cellular network and unlocking bootloader are completely different sadly.

[Q] Bricked bootloader. How to factory reset it?

Like 6 months ago i unlocked the bootloader and unlocked the simlock too.
But now I wanted a custom rom that required locked bootloader, so i locked it.
That's where my problems start. It isn't in fact locked, but it cannot be unlocked again, because s1tool now doesn't recognize my bootloader, therefore cannot unlock it (Flashtool doesn't help either). And the worst part: now it doesn't accept any SIM.
How can I reset this phone now to a state, where it becomes usable again?
