[Q] Can GPS receiver/logger be connected via USB to android tablet? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a small GPS receiver / logger based on the MTK chipset, similar to products such as iBlue, Holux, Qstarz and Photomate (I have the Photomate 887). These have USB interface to allow the device to stream real-time GPS coordinates through the USB or bluetooth to a PC (or compatible camera).
Is it at all possible for an Android tablet with USB port to receive GPS data from these devices and plot your position on (some) available mapping program - to essentially turn the tablet into the equivalent of a Garmin or Tomtom (etc) GPS trip navigator?
Would an android app do the actual "talking" directly through the USB to the receiver, or is that something that the OS itself would (or must) do?
A second question is - are there any android tablets with actual GPS receivers built into them?
A third question - for an android tablet that doesn't have internal bluetooth, can bluetooth be added via USB adapter?

I think can't

GPS

Hi all

I have just seen a bluetooth GPS unit that also has an wired interface, specifically
Serial Port via Mini USB Interface
Would it be possible to create a cable that interfaces between this GPS unit and the XDA?
(this would allow you to have a bluetooth capable GPS unit that can be used with the XDAs ... using cable ..... so you are future proof)
Thanks

[Q] External GPS antenna and Video In

I have galaxy 10.1 and would like to know if anyone has ever used it with a "backup" camera in a car and also connected it to an external GPS antenna?
I've read the cable forums and there are no pins for "video in" or anything for GPS antenna. My goal is to permanently install Wi-fi version in console in car (current monitor is "dumb" 10" LCD). Touchscreen Galaxy with cached maps and ability to use external GPS antenna and have video inputs would be ideal.
I realize I could piecemeal all the components (separate GPS with USB, WiFi for video camera, etc) but the wired option would be cheaper replacement.

You can buy a cheap bluetooth gps and then install an app called bluetoothGPS on your tablet. It reads the data off the external gps via bluetooth and displays it on the screen. Dont think there is support for video though

[Q] Two USB - 3G fixing issue

Hi
We have an android application which uses UsbManager to get GPS data (over a USB port) in cubie board. We use another USB port in cubie board for 3G dongle (which is driven by 3rd party apk from play store).
3G dongle is not fixing when I we install the apk which receives GPS data over USB. What could be the problem? I am just iterating USB devices and connecting to only the GPS device. Is it because I am iterating all the USB devices?
How to make 3G dongle working?
How do I get the required Device object without iterating and find the device by vendor id? I am doing this just to request for user permission. I am not doing this then I am not receiving the message in Broadcast receiver which connects to USB device.
Thanks

[Q] USB Infrared support in Android

There may be device or rom specific answers to this question, but I wanted to know if there was support for USB infrared receivers built into stock Android, possibly at Kernel level?
The context is that I have a USB IR receiver that I've used in Windows for XBMC that I've tried connecting to two of my Android devices (Galaxy Nexus and Nexus Q) via a USB OTG cable and pointing my remote at it doesn't seem to automatically work like a Bluetooth remote does, but it could be that it's receiving the IR commands and I need an android app to convert the IR signals into something Android understands.
Anyone have any information about this?

Wired connection to external screen/display

I've been doing some research on using an Android phablet as both a mobile device and desktop computer. Basically this is what is needed:
Ability to run desktop environment and applications. Already not a problem with linuxdeploy or similar;
Ability to connect external display, keyboard and mouse. Whilst connecting the latter 2 wirelessly is acceptable, I certainly want to be able to use wired connection for external display — HDMI or something else.
The second requirement seems to be either tricky or not possible to accomplish at all with non-stock ROMs. Is it true that no custom Android ROM allows wired connection of external display, like MHL/HDMI or whatever?
I am also aware of Ubuntu Touch but it seems not to support wired external display either, all the more so it won't allow to run Android apps.
